== RE: WIDESPREAD NEPOTISM & THEFT IN WT CADRE ==

~ Part 3 ~

Namaskar,
Everyone knows that the first and foremost point in Ananda Marga we are to follow Baba’s stated rules. One of Baba’s clear-cut rules for all workers is that they must not maintain contact with their laokik family.

“No relation should exist with worldly family.” (32 Rules for Avadhutikas, pt #9)

This point is crystal-clear and very straightforward.

Yet, we must again address this matter because respected Didi Ananda Giita has a long and on-going history of living with her laokik father due to her deep attachment for him. To that end, she creates all kinds of justifications of why they are living together. By reading further down below, you will learn that her justifications are patently false. That is one point. Secondly, we are to follow Baba’s guideline that Wt’s must not have contact with their laokik family. That is the central point and we should not be swayed in any other direction.

Please understand that I have great sympathy and care for any elder member of our human society. Here, however, the focus is on the sanctity and integrity of being a respected acarya of Ananda Marga by adhering to Baba’s guideline.

FAKE WT:

AGAINST THEIR OATH TO GURU

“If any Wt is tending to the needs of their worldly family then that wt is fake. This may sound harsh but that is the reality. This is a fundamental aspect of renunciation: No contact with worldly family and instead dedicate everything to serving Parama Purusa and the universal family. When a worker goes against this fundamental oath to Guru then they are no longer a genuine wt; rather they are fake.

The solution is that the greater society should directly intervene and care for the father, and Didi Ananda Giita should attend to her Wt life and not engage herself in this way with her laokik relations.

Instead, Didi should adhere to Guru’s guideline and not incur sin. By indulging in sin, Didi sets an extremely bad example. That is why this entire problem has multiplied so drastically with so many Didis involving with their laokik families. Of course, not all Didis are guilty of this, but it is a growing problem.

Here the point is not that a particular family member is helpless and needs support. The main issue is that Wts must adhere to their oath – they no longer have relations with or responsibility for their laokik family. If they do like this, then donors will not feel comfortable giving to the organisation as they see money being secretly funneled to the laokik families of our acaryas – instead of going toward the allotted social service projects. After all, this is stealing. Plus, by doing this, other wts will be tempted to do the same.

All in all, the effect is absolutely disastrous – and that is what is manifesting right now. Everyone should be aware of the situation and be ready accordingly. Wts are to focus on their acarya life and not maintain relations with their worldly family.

Baba says, “These are all codes of discipline as prescribed by Bhágavata Dharma. You must follow these codes. There cannot be any concession in this respect, rather concession is dangerous.” (Subhasita Samgraha – 21, Jaeva Dharma and Bhágavata Dharma)”

This entire situation with respected Didi Ananda Giita and her esteemed laokik father Shrii Bhallaji is of critical importance. As we all know and has been well documented, Didiji has been living with him for years and years. Didiji’s manner stands as a very bad example and sets a poor precedent for all Wts.

Let us not overlook the fact that respected Didi Ananda Giita is the most senior Didi in the organisation, as well as the second Didi ever in the entire history of AMPS. Naturally, what she does will affect how others act.

It just cannot be denied that throughout her Wt life, Didi Ananda Giita has had extensive contact and interaction with her laokik father. This is a fact.

SETTING A NEGATIVE PRECEDENT

Here are two matters that we must consider.

(1) By Didi Ananda Giita’s example, many wts (both junior and senior) have been affected. They feel unmotivated to strictly adhere to Baba’s stated conduct rule for wholetimers. Here again is that rule:

“No relationship should exist with worldly family.” (32 Rules for Avadhutas / Avadhutikas, pt #9)

Because when Ananda Giita herself disobeys this rule for years and decades, other workers may and do also feel that they need not follow – either this rule or any other rule. It can happen and indeed it has happened. They think, “When most respected Didi is not following, why should I.” Some, not all, adopt this mindset.

We must not ever forget that leadership is given utmost importance in Ananda Marga. And leadership means leading by example. So if our senior-most Didi is negligent on this matter of relations with her worldly family, then that is highly problematic. Setting a bad example creates a domino effect.

Baba Himself has issued this warning:

“Bear in mind that people may be harmed or misled by even a small weakness or defect in the conduct of an ácárya… an ácárya or ácáryá should always instruct by his or her exemplary actions and words.” (Ananda Vacanamrtam – 31, The Conduct of an Ácárya)

Thus, there is no scope to overlook or pardon what Didi Ananda Giita Didi has done and continues to do. Her ongoing interactions and preferential treatment towards her laokik father cannot be supported. Such dealing is highly condemnable.

Now we come to the second point…

IDEALS WTS

AND A PERSONAL STORY OF ONE WORKER

(2) Let’s step back and remind ourselves that most of our Wts are very dedicated to the ideals of sannyasi life. They entered Wt life inspired by a high ideal and still that idealism is alive in their mind and heart.

Here is one personal account that is quite meaningful and highly related to this discussion.

There is one Didi posted in Berlin sector. As we all know, in comparison to India, Berlin sector is a financially wealthy area. Didiji had been there for years so she is in a “good” position to help others on money matters.

Recently, one margii visited Didiji’s laokik parents in their village home in north India. This margii was horrified to see that Didiji’s father suffered a bad accident where one of his limbs had become compromised – maybe even fully disabled. The father was a simple farmer who had no means for proper medical treatment. In that case, the injury was bound to become a permanent disability, perhaps even an amputation. He might lose the limb entirely.

Immediately, that margii became alarmed and contacted Didiji in Berlin sector, as they had grown up together and gone to school together. They were close.

When Didiji received the call and got the news about her own laokik father, she said, “This is not my personal responsibility; it is the duty of the greater society. From my side, there is nothing to be done – neither directly nor indirectly. It is completely out of my hands.”

The margii knew that Didi was dealing with large monies from overseas areas. Didi could easily have flown back to India to care for her laokik father or arranged payment from Berlin sector itself for the needed medical care for her laokik father.

But on the point of ideological commitment, Didi stayed true to her Wts vows. She followed the code of discipline and refused to engage in relations with her laokik father / family – even under such a distressing circumstance as her father’s accident and disability.

Verily, there are many heroic and dharmic accounts of how various workers have refrained from helping and financially supporting their laokik family members. Such workers stood on their ideological principles and abided by their Wt conduct rules. It is these workers who are setting the proper precedent for Wt life. They are making a dharmic stand; and they are the true leaders.

Baba says, “Those who have the responsibility to show the path to others should be of superlative character with the most refined conduct…Persons who teach such well-regulated behaviour to others by their own conduct are called ácáryas.” (Ananda Vacanamrtam – 31, The Conduct of an Ácárya)

Hearing these stories, and seeing how so many unknown workers are strict in their conduct and dealing, it is quite evident that Didi Ananda Giita is in the wrong by going against the code of discipline. Didiji is not adhering to her Wt dharma. That is bad enough, but the worst part is that if others follow her lead, then what will be left of our WT cadre. It will be in shambles. Every conduct rule will be violated.

Didi Ananda Giita has chosen to overlook and bypass the code of Wt life. This has all happened because of her degraded state of mind. Please excuse me for saying so, but there really is no other explanation. If her mind was sterling and pointed, then Didiji would have firmly separated herself from her laokik father long ago. But this she has never done.

SHOULD WE GRANT THEM LICENSE TO GO AGAINST ANANDA MARGA IDEALS

There are a few who (mistakenly) believe that since Ananda Gita didi’s father K.C. Bhalla gave up all his moveable and immoveable property and donated it to Ananda Marga when his daughter became wt, therefore we should support this family regardless of their actions. Simply, because family has donated everything to Ananda Marga.

But this is all a hoax. Again and again, Didi Ananda Giita and her supporters repeat that K.C. Bhalla has donated everything to Ananda Marga. But this is just not true.

K.C. Bhalla to this day receives a big pension from the Indian government – thousands of rupees per month. He is financially independent, plus they still have property in the name of their laokik family.

So it is just a rumour by Ananda Giita Didi and her cohorts that her loakik father / family donated everything. If anyone has any doubt about this, I can give all the details and uncover all that is going on.

So there are two central issues:
(1) Didi Ananda Giita and her spokespeople are deceiving others into thinking that Bhallaji has donated everything when this is not true; Bhallaji receives a large government pension monthly and the family still holds property in their name.
(2) Didi Ananda Giita is not following Baba’s given rule for Wts. That means she is going against her oaths, her vows, and violating her code of dharma. The situation is not at all good.

ANALOGY OF FAKE WT

Even then, some confused persons say, “But what will become of Bhallaji if Didi Ananga Giita does not watch him. Bhallaji is just sitting there by himself.”

To such persons, I invite them to consider the following:

Suppose there is one monk, i.e. an avadhuta of Ananda Marga. And suppose that in his area there are many unmarried females who are not able to find a spouse. Seeing the situation, if this Wt decides to marry one of these females and side by side wishes to remain as a Wt, then this is totally wrong. That avadhuta cannot say, “I will remain as a Wt and keep this woman as my wife as well.” It does not work like that. Being a Wholetimer of Ananda Marga means refraining from marriage. One cannot get married and still continue to be a Wt.

Similarly, one cannot remain in avadhutika dress and keep ongoing relations with their own laokik father. That wholly violates what it means to be a Wt of Ananda Marga. On this matter there is no scope for compromise. One cannot simultaneously live as a Wt and have close and personal contact with their laokik father. That is wrong. Just as it is wrong for an avadhuta to marry an unwed female and remain as a Wt.

I think the matter is clear.

MUST NOT BE PARTIAL TO ANY GROUP

As Ananda Margiis, we should not think that if one group is plunged in wrongdoing then it is fine and can be overlooked whereas if another person or group is doing wrong then it should be pointed out. As sadhakas and as well-wishers of society, any wrongdoing should be pointed out and properly resolved. With this type of genuine helping attitude, this letter has been written. I remember one general darshan in Mumbai: Baba told that if in your family someone is doing something wrong, then do not ignore that misdeed, and only point out if others are doing wrong. This is not the way. Rather it is most essential to save your close family member from moving in a negative direction. With that motive I am writing this.

WT’S ARE NOT LIKE CORPORATE EMPLOYEES

In case there was any doubt or confusion in anyone’s mind, let us remember that our respected wholetimers of Ananda Marga have dedicated themselves to a high ideal – in service to Gurudev and suffering humanity. Their lives are for the welfare of others. So none should think that our workers can be thought of as selfish corporate executives or business employees who reap profits and benefits and use those funds for their selfish ends. In materialistic enterprises, people do like that. That is the common way.

But as we know our Ananda Marga is a social service organisation. Our wts are not “on salary” and all donations are to be used for helping those in need. Workers are not to abscond with money & goods designated for service projects. Funneling those resources to their worldly families breaches their sannyasi vow as well as the code of asteya (non-stealing).

So we can say it is a double sin: First, our workers are not to be selfishly hoarding wealth and stealing from society; second, our esteemed wt acaryas are not to maintain contact with their laokik family.

Namaskar,
In the Lord’s Name,
Divyapriaya

Purport:

Baba, I was lost in my self-created world of maya. You are so gracious. You Yourself came forward and looked toward me in a very loving way. I was not going to respond to You, even then with affection You lifted me up and put me on Your divine lap. Baba, it is Your grace, only Your grace.

The path which You showed me, I lost that in the past. Again You lovingly brought me back onto the proper path. Planets try to drift far away from their sun’s nucleus, yet the sun attracts them incessantly and pulls those planets back close. Then again the planets dance around their sun. In the same way, You are always pulling me so that my existence is revolving around You.

Baba

== BABA’S WAY OF STARTING ANANDA MARGA ==

~ Part 2 ~

Namaskar,
Here is the continuation of the previous post about the formation of Ananda Marga. The first part detailed how during those very early days in Jamalapur, Baba did all the initiations Himself. As the number of disciples grew, He introduced the system of family tattvikas and family acaryas. Then those tattvikas and acaryas taught sadhana to new people. And Baba Himself involved in countless other engagements.

That post also discussed how some, most notably family acarya Pratapaditya, mistakenly thought that the creation of Wts in AM was merely a temporary measure. Here is that first letter:

http://am-global-01.blogspot.com/2012/05/babas-way-of-starting-ananda-marga.html

HUGE PRACAR TARGETS FOR FAMILY ACARYAS

Now we pick up the account whereby family acaryas are working hard to keep pace with the rapid growth and spread of AM.

Gradually, in step-wise or even progressive fashion, the work of Ananda Marga multiplied. Family acaryas were convinced to take leave from their government offices and jobs; and, they were temporarily separated from their families in order to travel to far away places for pracar. Indeed they reached to all corners of India from Jammu Kashmir to Kannya Kumari and from Cachh to Nagaland. They covered just about everywhere – all places, all the district headquarters, etc. Plus so many meetings were organised – so many tattva sabhas.

The main program was the extensive pracar work going on those days. There was only one work — pracar, pracar, and pracar. There was no Prout work, no samaj work, and no other activity. In 1955 and 1956, there was only pracar: Making new margiis and getting them involved in sadhana and sending for them for PC at Jamalpur.

Then the next phase started. Family Acaryas were requested to go outside India. Some went and did huge work. Baba’s pressure was very focused on pracar work. So most of the family acaryas were taking leave and getting involved. Weeks after weeks. Pracar and pracar. That was the rhythm those days. At the same time, Baba graciously arranged a favourable vibration everywhere. So wherever acaryas went, they found people hungry to learn meditation and follow Ananda Marga. Effortlessly, acaryas initiated countless people. It was all due to Baba’s cosmic grace.

HOW THEY WERE THINKING ABOUT MONKS

Prior to 1962, in Ananda Marga there was no sannyasi system. So a few family acaryas were thinking that AM does not appreciate monks. This was the thinking of some family acaryas in those early days. They were openly talking like this also.

They calculated that other religions and spiritual paths have monks, but in Ananda Marga it is not accepted. So they had a negative type of feeling towards the saffron cloth. Plus general margiis were giving high regard and respect to family acaryas.

So two things were involved here. One, family acaryas were getting high respect. Two, in the working style of AM up to that time, Baba had not yet created the system of wholetime workers, renunciates. So some family acaryas in their own way were thinking that the concept of sannyasis will not be accepted in AM in the future.

THE PRESSURE FOR WORK MOUNTS

In a methodical manner, the days passed with ever-increasing work demands. After several years when
Baba’s work pressure was so extreme, family acaryas were feeling a lot of stress to fulfill the targets. At one point, Baba gave the program to do pracar and programs in all blocks of the entire world: Where there is at least one Margii in each and every block.

By that time Baba was taking reports – and lovingly punishing and even beating His disciples with His own stick. This was exclusively His tantric grace. To the untrained eye it may have looked harsh. But behind, Baba had His cosmic plan. By beating and punishing sadhakas, He would cure their physical and psychic ailments. In His divine play of punishment, He purified their glands, cleaned their minds, and infused them with devotion and strong enthusiasm. In this way, He was gracing and purifying them – and devotees realised this as well. All their physical and psychic ailments were removed. After reporting they would do a lot of pracar. Outwardly it looked like punishment; but, those who received such punishment were charged with a strong spirit, a clear mind, and a disease-free body.

These days some people may think: Was there no other way to purify sadhakas than by beating them?

The answer is very simple. Baba’s unique and special approach of “punishing” sadhakas kept unworthy people away from the scene; by this way, only those sincere sadhakas who really wanted to be cured, pure, and spiritually cleansed remained. And that is exactly what happened. By seeing His way of bestowing grace, many unworthy people became scared and ran away. Only the true sadhakas remained along with Baba. This was way He showered His grace upon His disciples and displayed His tantric liila.

WT’S ENTER ONTO THE SCENE

Anyway, the phase was starting to change – again. This is Baba’s liila. Baba was taking reporting and He scolded and abused a lot those days. That time, the out-turn was “very poor” from family acaryas. They were working hard, but Baba had given them huge expectations and targets to fill.

Then Baba suggested, “You people have become senior, have families, and hence cannot leave for AM work for several months at a time for pracara. Why not find youths who are unmarried, or anyone who can
give full-time commitment for this endeavour, and take work from them?”

By listening this suggestion from Baba, those family acaryas felt so much relief. They started searching for some youths.

In this course of action, from different parts of India, family acaryas sent many youths for PC at Jamalpur. And to make them into LFTs there was one training session. The year was 1962.

Things were going on very fast. Without any delay those LFT’s were getting their WT-ship.

This is just a glimpse of some of the long, rich history. From there the story goes on and on. Please everyone write in with their own remembrances & recollections.

Namaskar,
Shivadayal Deva

Note 1: WHY SOME FAMILY ACARYAS WERE FRUSTRATED AND FURIOUS

ABOUT THE CREATION OF WTS

In 1962, Baba created the Wt system. Margiis naturally began giving a lot of respect to wholetimers. Seeing this, some family tattvikas and acaryas felt jealous. Suddenly, the respect they were getting shifted towards these new wholetimers. For this reason they did not like the creation of Wts. They thought, “This new system of Wts is very bad because it has taken away our honour and respect.”

That is the main reason why some family acaryas became hostile toward Wt’s.

We can understand then that this was nothing but the play of avidya maya. Due to the veil of darkness, i.e. avidya maya, certain family acaryas could not digest Baba’s new component: Wts. That is why some family acaryas raised their agenda again and again that the Wt system whould be abolished. They gave the false justification that it is impractical. Amongst them all, family acarya Pratapaditya was a very vocal critic against the Wt system.

PRABHAT SAMGIITA

“Tiirthe tiirthe ghuriya’ kla’nt hoye esechi dva’re…” (Prabhata Samgiita 4112)

Purport:

Baba, O’ Divine Entity, after wandering around the globe in various holy lands in search of You, I am completely tired. In this exhausted state I have reached Your alter. Baba, be gracious, please do not turn Your face away; please do not become unhappy, angry, or furious with me. Please open the door and allow me to come inside.

Baba, look towards me; my whole body is completely tired and exhausted. My feet are full of dust. Wandering around in the sun, my whole body has become completely hot and sweaty. I am totally tired and exhausted.

O’ Parama Purusa, O’ Baba, now I feel in my heart and repent how my whole life has been wasted. I was tied up in the noose of dogma. Just I was performing various rituals, wandering in holy lands, moving from one tiirtha to another tiirtha, from one Baba’s Quarter to another Baba’s Quarter, in search of You. By Your grace, now I understand that You are residing in my heart – smiling.

Baba, I am surrendering to You. Please accept me as Yours. Do not leave me to wander from one dogmatic pilgrimage to another – involved in various rituals. The path which I was traveling was dark & full of hopelessness. I wasted a lot of money, time, and energy; nothing was gained. Now I am too tired. I want Your divine direction.

In spite of moving on the negative path, by Your grace in the garden of my mind some flowers have bloomed for You. I want to offer those flowers at Your lotus feet. The creepers of hope are swinging and the feeling is coming that You will allow me.

Bab, You have graciously given me the longing for You in my heart. Now please grace me by allowing me to come close to You and touch Your feet. Baba, I am Yours and You are mine. I am surrendering everything unto You. Please accept me…

== BABA’S WAY OF STARTING ANANDA MARGA ==

~ Part 1 ~

Namaskar,

There were a few who thought that there was no long-term need for a sannyasi order (i.e. our WT cadre) in Ananda Marga. They thought that the creation of Wts was just a temporary phase and that family persons will again gain full control of the Marga.

Most notably, respected family Ac Pratapaditya fell in this category. From time to time he would write like that; and there were others who expressed this perspective as well.

FLEXIBILITY IS THE MAIN DIFFERENCE

Of course, we all know that family people have certain limitations and time constraints: Raising kids, professional obligations, local relations etc. Naturally it is clear that family people do not have the flexibility that wholetimers have and hence cannot do the things which WTs can do.

Anywhere, anytime those Wts can be sent from one corner of the globe to the other. And they will stay there permanently till the next order comes. They have to attend to calamities and manage the relief work and provide services etc. How can family persons take up that task when they have children, jobs, and the responsibility of running AM in their local area etc.

NOT JUST A TEMPORARY PHASE

So if anyone is still thinking that the creation of the WT cadres is just a temporary measure because the wt cadre was not introduced in the very beginning (i.e. 1955), but rather in 1962, then they should consider 16 Points, paincajanya, kiirtan, fasting, Prabhat Samgiita, neo-humanism, master units, gurukul, tandava / kaoshiiki, and sentient food etc. These practices were also added later on, i.e. after 1955. Step by step Baba introduced all these points. Should we conclude that these “additions” by Baba are also just temporary measures.

Those with a deeper understanding know that Baba planned everything ahead of time. And when it was the opportune moment then in a methodical manner He introduced new points. It is just like how parents do not send their infants off to university for higher studies. They wait until the time is right: When the children are older.

Similarly when there was a certain need etc, Baba would introduce something new. Or, at least, on the surface it looked like that when actually He was just implementing those things which were already in His mind. So it was just a matter of how He was playing His liila.

MORE OF THE BACKGROUND

As we all know Baba started this great organization in 1955. And initially there was no WT system. In the very beginning, in those early days there were only regular Margiis– no family acaryas or tattvikas. That time Baba was the only One involved in doing initiations. Actually He was personally doing everything. Not only initiations, but Baba was teaching asanas to the margiis and even demonstrating all the poses Himself. That was part of the beauty of those early days. But, unfortunately, those around were not thinking that Baba was Parama Purusa. They perceived Him as just an ordinary guru.

Also when going to DMC then the family margii serving as Baba’s PA would live together along with Baba in the same room. Each with their own cot side by side. So that time Baba wanted to bring people close. But those early margiis were not thinking that Baba was so great and mighty – due to that same feeling of closeness. This held a certain charm.

Of course, over time the system changed and later on PA Dada would take a room next to Baba’s. So PA would not stay in the very same room as Baba – but that was later on.

In addition, in those early days Baba was still working in His government job. During this time, He Himself had initiated many margiis, whenever He had time – after His government office hours in His personal quarters or whenever. Many are aware about how things were working that time.

THE CREATION OF TATTVIKAS

Gradually many good Margiis were created by Him. Finally one tattvika training session was arranged wherein Baba started giving tattvika classes. Baba Himself was the teacher.

Around that time, Baba was delivering His teachings on AM philosophy which came into print as the books “Ananda Marga Elementary Philosophy” (1955), “Idea and Ideology” (1959), Ananda Sutram (1962). Naturally it was needed to have qualified disciples to explain and spread these teachings.

For this reason He was leading tattvika classes. During the time of tattvika training there was a very strict routine with lots of discipline. Many Margiis from far and wide participated. Most of them passed and became tattvikas, by Baba’s grace. In the next session Baba blessed them and made them family acaryas.

Gradually, by this way, Baba stopped performing initiations Himself. Of course Baba remained ever-active in countless works. Indeed, He was involved more deeply because a huge number of initiations were done by the new tattvikas, and Baba was giving PC (personal contact) to new Margiis as well as expanding the organisation on many fronts.

The basic progression was:
1. First Baba was initiating new people Himself.
2. Then the system was made where margiis had to get permission from Baba before bringing a new person to Him for initiation.
3. Therefter Baba created tattvikas and then family acaryas to initiate new people. By this time Baba had stopped performing initiations Himself.

HOW SWEET AND BLISSFUL IT WAS

So as the community of Ananda Margiis grew, so many things were happening. DMCs were going on and many villages were blessed by Baba to host DMC – especially in Bihar and in northern Bihar. Baba was doing maximum pracar there – where He literally travelled from village to village, town to town. Baba reached many places where even travelling by bullock carts was not possible. He went by elephant – how wild it was. Human beings could not even walk there due to the deep mud. What a divine liila those days! There are countless stories recounted by margiis. How sweet and blissful it was.

(Note: This concludes part 1 of this multi-part series. Please watch for the next letter soon that further recounts the glorious and dynamic history of the formation of AMPS.)

Baba

== DADHIICI DIVAS: HISTORY AND OBSERVANCE ==

Namaskar,
The day of Dadhiici Divas is approaching March 5. This occasion holds special significance as dharmic sadhakas laid down their lives for the great cause of Ananda Marga ideology. Hence this is a day to honor those who sacrificed and a time to remember the unprecedented dedication it took to build up and establish AM ideology. It is about the rise of bhagavad dharma on this earth.

As we all know prior to ’90 under Baba’s direction many great deeds were done. Along the way many gave their lives for the great cause of dharma. We should reflect upon those sacrifices done for the sake of ideology and take up the vow that once again we should protect and propagate this grand AM ideology.

As you read this full account keep in mind that Notes 1 & 2 appended below address how a dadhiici differs from the Christian concept of martyr and list the names of those in AM who sacrificed their lives for bhagavad dharma.

DADHIICI DIVAS IS ONLY CELEBRATED ON ONE DAY

Initially Dadhiici Divas was declared in memory of those great souls who lost their lives in that tragic incident of 5 March 1967. As more struggles ensued and dedicated sadhakas sacrificed their lives for AM ideology, Baba created the system and gave the idea that this day of March 5 will be the one single day to remember & honour all those who sacrificed their existence for the great call of dharma – AM ideology.

Initially the observation of Dadhiici Divas began with the historical sacrifice of 5 March 1967 wherein some dedicated workers and margiis were tragically and brutally murdered in a barbarous attack by the Communist Party (West Bengal). It happened in Ananda Nagar; and since then this day is held in their honour.

Yet over time Dadhiici Divas has become the day which marks the occasion to remember when any and all Margiis and WTs sacrificed their life for the great cause of AM ideology, i.e Bhagavad Dharma– irrespective of which date and in which particular manner their lives were actually sacrificed. Only one day is fixed to honor those who gave their life for the ideals of AM. And that day is Dadhiici Divas, 5 March.

THE DETAILS OF THAT FATEFUL DAY

Here is a more in-depth look back at the events which transpired on that fateful day of 5 March 1967 as well as the events leading up to it.

As is commonly known our Ananda Nagar was first started on over 1000 acres of land in Baglata, Purulia District West Bengal in 1964. And that time so many beautiful projects and programmes were started to materialise Baba’s vision. There were primary schools, a college, a medical clinic, a children’s home, etc. Many great projects were going on.

But by 1967 serious resistance started to come from the nefarious communist party – CPI(M). Those days the CPI controlled the entire local Purulia area and they had a wicked grip on the West Bengal Govt by controlling many high positions.

So now we can see how the tensions were mounting those days.Because on the one hand due to selfless service by our Marga wholetimers in & around Ananda Nagar, the local people / villagers were getting benefited and were coming close. And the villagers began to see how the CPI was exploiting them.

In reaction, the CPI(M) began to instigate local movements to conspire against AM. To that end, members plotted and convinced local BDO Ashok Chakravarty against our AN Ashram. Then in Aug 1966 this BDO (Block Development Officer) came to our Ashram saying he wanted to be a member of the controlling body of our AM Degree College.

When it was explained to him that unfortunately he did not meet our Ashram’s regulations for such a position, then he became quite furious and irate. Of course he was not acting on his ownl; rather he was just the front-man for the communist party. Then to counter-attack and get revenge BDO returned in Feb 1967 demanding for our Marga to support the local communist candidate in the General Elections. Of course our WT & Margii brothers and sisters humbly explained about our socio-spiritual approach and told that we do not support any political party, per se. In that circumstance this negative BDO was determined for revenge. In truth that BDO was but a pawn of the ruling communists.

The communists began an intensive campaign started to defame AM among Purulia locals. And one serious plot was hatched to attack our Ananda Nagar Ashram. No doubt local people had developed good relations with our Ashram due to the different service projects. But communist workers worked hard to undermine that.

And together with the BDO they sabotaged our relation with the villagers through numerous underhanded and grotesque scene.

For example the communists and the BDO secretly slaughtered many cows and stealthily spread those remains around the villages in the middle of the night. And they told and spread the rumours that the Ananda Marga Ashramites were responsible for the nefarious work. Of course in that case Hindus were furious since they worship the cow as a goddess. And the CPI(M) told the Muslim villagers that the AM sadhus had been driven out of Pakistan and settled in Purulia with deep hatred toward Muslims, and that they would surely be stealing all their land.

So after drumming up sufficient nasty hatred among villagers, the CPI & BDO held another meeting in Susundi village on March 3rd 1967. And they made all the Hindus and Muslims present that day to swear by oath on the Mahabarata and Koran to remove AM sadhus by any means, including murder.

And fifth March was decided to be the day to carry out their dark plot. It was known by all, including AN Ashram residents, all Purulia gov’t and police officials and West Bengal gov’t that the event was planned.

Certainly Ananda Marga sannyasis appealed to both the Purulia gov’t and to police multiple times for protection and security from the oncoming doom. But all of those appeals were ignored. And just one skeletal, paltry force of police was assigned to the ashram grounds. That was the night of March 4th but it was all only to make a show etc. Proof being that by three o’clock in the morning of 5th March, Ananda Nagar was declared as being safe by chief of police. So he left to go back to Purulia, leaving behind only a small show of around thirty men.

But that too was only in show, as in morning when attack came, not one policeman raised his hand. And that terrible day of 5 March 1967, thousands of armed villagers arrived on the scene goaded by the hatred inculcated by CPI workers. And in that fury the villages swept through our Ananda Nagar ashram, destroying everything in sight.

On their horror-stricken path, hundreds of Ananda Nagar residents were seriously wounded and five were struck dead with mortal wounds. And not just killed, but butchered & mauled. Among those victims who fought bravely to defend Ananda Nagar & AM way of life were Dadas Abhedananda and Sachidananda.

Altogether, 5th March 1967 is a day never to be forgotten in Ananda Marga history. A day to recognise those who died for the highest goal.

A DAY TO REMEMBER THE SACRIFICE OF ALL

Since that fateful occasion, many have come forward in our Marga and sacrificed their lives for the cause of bhagavad dharma including the terrible murder of 18 Avadhutas in broad day-light in the early 80’s, and after that also all such persons who sacrificed for the special cause of AM ideology are honourably called as Dadhiicis. March 5 is in their memory as well (See list in note 2).

OBSERVATION OF THE DAY

In this way, Dadhiici Divas is known as a day of great dedication and sacrifice for the high ideal of AM ideology. It can be celebrated with due respect and regard in the following way:
(A) Half-Day Fasting
(B) Dharmacakra
(C) Slide Show: History of Struggle for Dharma in AM
(D) Debate
(E) Poetry Readings
(F) Dance – Drama: Teach and Educate New People
(G) Talk: Review of spread of bhagavad dharma and recounting the efforts of those who sacrificed.
(H) Exhibition

BABA’S ETERNAL GUIDELINES

On the occasion of this coming Dadhiicii Divas, we should reflect on its special significance and adhere strictly to Baba’s dharmic codes and teachings and establish the AM ideology. Be sure also to read note 1 explaining who is dadhiici.

Baba says, “Fight for your Ideology. Be one with your Ideology. Live for your Ideology. Die for your ideology.” (Ananda Vanii #14)

Baba says, “Life represents Ideology. Life should be sacrificed for the Ideology.” (Ananda Vanii #15)

Namaskar,
Gurucharan Deva

OUR SANSKRIT NAMES

Little by little we should all be accustomed to following Baba’s below guideline and begin at least by using Deva when we sign our emails.

Baba says, “The word deva should be suffixed to the name…the more the usage of deva as a title, the better it is. The Sanskrit name should be used in all worldly dealings.” (Caryacarya-1)

Note 1: DADHIICI DOES NOT MEAN MARTYR

The terms ‘Dadhiici’ and ‘Martyr’ are not the same thing. That is why Baba has specially given the occasion as Dadhiici Divas and not ‘Martyrs Day’ or ‘Shahiids Day’ etc. Because the term dadhiici bears a unique & special significance.

Baba says:

“When Christians die for Christendom, they are called martyrs;
When Muslims die for Islam they are called shahiids;
When My children sacrifice their live for the ideals of Bha’gavat Dharma,
I call them Dadhiicis.” – 5 March, 1967

Hence in Ananda Marga, our concept of dadhiici has absolutely no relation with the Christian term martyr. Because Christian martyrs are only fighting for their selfish and narrow-minded group interest such as in the Crusades and other religious wars. Those martyrs did not sacrifice their lives for the welfare of one and all. In contrast in our AM, those Dahiicis who sacrificed their lives did something for the upliftment of the entire humanity. So none should be confused that the greatness of the term “dahiicis” is similar to the dogmatic Christian concept of “martyr.” Rather these two titles are worlds apart.

Note 2: LIST OF DADHIICIS IN ANANDA MARGA

Unfortunately, that time I was just engrossed in my own lustful and crude attachments; I was oblivious of Your divine presence. Neither did I turn around to look towards You, nor did I talk with You. That was my pitiful condition.

Baba, keeping my room bolted shut, in that isolated condition I was just secretly involved in thinking about my own greatness. In that crude state of mind I was constantly hankering for more and more prestige – for more name and fame. Baba, I was sitting on the shore of the black river [1] only involved in my own selfish and egotistical thoughts.

O’ my dearest One, I did not look towards so You left – but even then You graced me with Your abundant love. Baba, You are so gracious. In spite of my not caring about Your arrival because my mind was so crude, even then You showered so much grace that the whole world is dancing ceaselessly in Your divine love. Baba, the colorful flowers are ensconced & swaying in Your loving vibration and they have started blossoming uncontrollably. It is Your causeless grace.

O’ Parma Purusa, You are so magnificent & gracious; You have come and blessed me with Your divine love– You have saturated my whole existence. Baba, You are grace personified…

END NOTES FOR PS #2309:

[1] Shore of the Black River [krs’n’a’ nadiir ku’le]: This represents that dark, negative, or degenerated state of mind where one’s mind is dominated by all kinds of crude thoughts and desires. Thus when the mind is very low and one is just hankering for prestige, and singing about their own glory, and they want that others should praise them;– Such persons are degenerated. Their mind is in the lower kosa. And they do not want to listen to anything other than the tales of their own greatness. This is what it means by sitting by the shore of the black river.

One Should Assess Oneself on the Following

Baba says, “When human beings feel that, ‘Parama Purusa is my everything’, then that is called as sharan (shelter). No being can come under the sharan (shelter) of two different Entities. So what is the meaning of Sharanagati (surrender)? When living beings give up their ‘I-feeling’ by withdrawing the mind from any other object and completely adopt the feeling that Parama Purusa alone is my everything.”

“Up to the time when any person is thinking that they are working with their own strength, then we should understand that the feeling of sharanagati has not yet come in them. And when human beings think that, ‘I am doing the work only with His strength’, it means the feeling of sharanagati has come in their mind. So when living beings start thinking that, ‘Whatever work I am doing, I am doing with His strength’, then they have the feeling of sharanagati.” (General Darshan, Patna DMC, 1970, [from audio tape])

Subject: Demon or Saint: You Decide

Baba

== DEMON OR SAINT: YOU DECIDE ==

Namaskar,

In His related discourses, Baba guides us that we should know and understand history. History itself is important – without it one will just repeat the same mistakes made in the past.

Along with the longer-term history of our AM history, as Ananda Margiis we should also know the events which have taken place in the organisation since 1990. So many margiis fought to uphold our AM ideology. We should know what problems they faced and how they struggled. Then we will be best able to prevent such episodes in the future,

The following is one critical incident from this time.

THE STORY STARTS LIKE THIS

Just a few months ago, in mid-December 2010, after a sadhana program held in Alibag (Mumbai) one well-intentioned margii (referred herein as margii K) wrote a public letter of high praise about the greatness and saintliness of Viitamoha’nanda who attended that program.

Margii K wrote: “This year, Ac Viitamoha’nanda dada attended for the first time. He is a very noble WT.” And then that margii K went on to tell all kinds of glorious tales about Vitmoha’nanda.

In reply, brother Narayan Pandaji, the BP of Vishakapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), wrote the following:

“After 1993, Viitamoha’nanda was one of the chief captains of the special squad of Sarva’tma’nanda in eliminating the WTs / Grhii ma’rgiis who were coming against their group and protesting injustices. The same person along with Raviisha’nanda had come to take A’c. Maniis’a’nanda Avt. from Visakhapatnam at th end of October 1995 to Tiljala for eliminating him forever. Their plan was to remove Maniis’a’nanda’s avadhuta dress, put him in plain clothes, and forcibly take him to Tiljala. Their plan was not to be. Ba’ba’ saved Maniis’ananda Dada; so Viitamoha’nanda & Raviisha’nanda returned to Kolkata without Maniis’ananda and without his dress. I can’t bear the word “noble” used by you for such a hypocrite sanya’sii [like Viitamoha’nanda].”

DARK SCENES OF HISTORY: PART 1

We must all realise that in the course of history – even recent history – there are many dark scenes that people often deny. The above encounter really happened and the proof is that those days people did not speak up due to the reign of terror. No one dared speak openly about injustices and dogmas within the organisation. To do so was to purchase a ticket to be black-balled and get ousted. One would be threatened, expelled, beaten physically, tortured and finally eliminated – i.e. attacked and killed. This is not hearsay. That was the way things were working those days. Top Dadas would target anyone who questioned their modus operendi.

Innocent margiis who spoke up would face torture, attack, humiliation, punishment and even killing. This is rta; these are factual events; that is what was going on. That is why no one would dare open their mouth. Those few margiis who were writing about these injustices were terrorised. One should not fall into denial and forget this critical history, otherwise the same thing will be repeated in the future.

Those who came in AM yesterday may be surprised by hearing this; but those senior margiis and those active in the 1990’s know well what horror was going on. Those who came after 2000, or those who were just plain blind all along, they may not know this aspect of history mentioned above.

DARK SCENES OF HISTORY: PART 2

And indeed, not just in AM but each and every country, society, organisation etc carries a history of ghastly events. Eventually society changes, but some do not like to believe that those dark events actually took place on their soil. For instance, today some people cannot believe that members of the upper brahmin caste would put molten lead in the ears of women and harijains who heard the vedas. Yet Baba clearly tells us that this was going on.

Here the point is that even though some deny those dark events, we should not disregard those claims. Our history is full of shady scenes and that part of history must not be denied or suppressed.

From 1990 to ’97, so long as all those groupists were together, they were terrorising margiis and wts who raised their voice against those injustices. It is only due to the sacrifice of those courageous margiis who wrote back then, that we now have freedom of expression in AM today. Otherwise people could not write about those so-called great Dadas in centre and their black deeds.

RESOLUTION

One should not forget this history. What Pandaji is writing about Viitamoha’nanda is an eye-witness account. Dada Viitamoha’nanda and Dada Raviisha’nanda were both criminals and reached Vishakatpatnam in October 1995 with the sole intention of eliminating Ac Maniis’a’nanda Avt. That is what Pandaji is writing.

If you want to know more about this, please communicate with Narayan Panda of Vishakapatnam. He too faced terrible backlash from those groupist as he was punished and victimised in all sorts of ways for opposing their wrongdoing and misdeeds.

The duty of every margii is to become educated about our entire AM history, whether it be glorious or not. Denial is nothing but a sign of cowardliness.

Namaskar,

Nagendra

Note: If you have read entire letter and reached here, then you have to think: Are Dadas Viitamoha’nanda and Dada Raviishananda demons or what? If you just automatically scrolled down to this point then please go back to the top of this email and read through the entire letter and then decide.

Baba Nam Kevalam

PRABHAT SAMGIITA

“Saba’r saunge tumi a’cho, tumi a’cho, Prabhu tumi a’cho…” (PS 1111)

Purport:

O’ Lord, by Your grace You are with all; O’ Prabhu You are

ever-present, You know not any barriers of relativity. You always remain

with everyone. Baba, by showering Your infinite love & compassion, You have

graciously captivated and attracted my mind. Baba You are ever present–

ever present.

Baba, in the fast, ferocious winds of the cyclone, and in the deadly

grip of the cobra, at the time of death when the god of death comes near,

or when in the jaws of enemy, in all these terrifying circumstances You

shower Your sweet grace by smiling and dancing. Baba, even in the fire of

the unbearable inferno, You shower Your causeless grace and You turn

everything into the cool balm of sandalwood. Baba, You are ever-gracious.

Baba, You are present eternally. Even before anything was existed and

before there was even the hint of creation, You were present then also.

Because You are the Creator. Baba, You are the origin; You are omnipresent.

Even when there was no existence of seconds, minutes, hours, days, dates,

months, or years, and there was no way to count the time, that time also

You were there. Baba in that moment You were alone. There was no divine

play of hope and hopelessness between the Lord and His devotees; just You

were all alone. Baba, today You are ever-present along with Your creation.

And You are vibrating in Your liila’rasa, dancing with divine ecstasy in

the bond of love, showering Your grace to all the jiivas, and attracting

everyone close to you. Baba You are ever-present, omnipotent. Baba, Your

liila is unfathomable.

Baba, You are the beginning and You are the only desideratum, the Goal…

******************************************

Who is Real Human Being

Baba says, “Parama Purusa will be pleased when you serve His creation– not

only human beings, but also plants, animals, and the rest of creation. That

is bhu’ta yajina, pite yajina, and nr yajina are to be performed. Those who

have this feeling are human beings in the real sense of the term.” (AV-3,

p.58)

Note: Usually so-called advanced people do most things solely for their own

self-gratification and personal entertainment etc. Sometimes it may look

like they are doing social service work, but it is not social service in

the true sense. Because they are doing that “service” only to enhance their

own prestige and to garner praise from all around. And proof is that they

themselves brag about the little things that they did. So what they are

doing is just business, not service. If in their various duties and works

anyone does not feel that they are truly serving the progeny of Parama

Purusa, then we cannot call such people proper human beings.

Subject: Coming 5th March: Dadhiici Divas

Baba

== UP & COMING EVENT: DADHIICI DIVAS ==

WHY ONLY 5TH MARCH IS DADHIICI DIVAS

Namaskar,

The day of Dadhiici Divas is soon approaching. And this celebrated day of

Dadhiici Divas– March 5– holds special significance as dharmic sadhakas

laid down their lives for the great cause of ideology. Hence this is an

occasion to honor those who sacrificed themselves and also a time to

remember the unprecedented dedication it took to build up and establish AM

ideology.

Of course now things are going on differently, but prior to ’90 many great

deeds and works were going on regularly. So we should recount those

sacrifices done for the sake of ideology and take up the vow that once again we

should protect and propagate this grand AM ideology.

DADHIICI DIVAS IS ONLY CELEBRATED ON ONE DAY

Initially Dadhiici Divas was declared in memory of those great souls who

lost their lives in that tragic incident of 5 March 1967. And then more

struggles ensued and dedicated sadhakas sacrificed their lives for AM

ideology.

So Baba created the system and gave the idea that this day of March 5

will be the one single day to remember & honour all those who sacrificed

their existence for the great call of dharma– AM ideology.

Initially the observation of Dadhiici Divas began with the historical

sacrifice of 5 March 1967. Wherein some dedicated workers and margiis were

tragically and brutally murdered in a barbarous attack by the Communist

Party (West Bengal). It happened in Ananda Nagar; and since then this day

is held in their honour. Yet over time Dadhiici Divas has become the day

which marks the occasion to remember when any and all Margiis and WTs

sacrificed their life for the great cause of AM ideology, i.e Bhagavad

Dharma– irrespective of which date and in which particular manner their lives

were actually sacrificed. Only one day is fixed to honor those who gave

their life for the ideals of AM. And that day is Dadhiici Divas, 5 March.

THE DETAILS OF THAT FATEFUL DAY

Here is a more in-depth look back at the events which transpired on that

fateful day of 5 March 1967 as well as the events leading up to it.

As is commonly known our Ananda Nagar was first started on over 1000 acres

of dusty land in Baglata, Purulia Dst West Bengal in 1964. And that time so

many beautiful projects and programmes were started to materialise Baba’s

vision. There were primary schools, a college, a medical clinic, a children’s

home, etc. Many great projects were going on.

But by 1967 serious resistance started to come from the nefarious communist

party– CPI(M). Those days the CPI controlled the entire local Purulia area

and they had a wicked grip on the West Bengal Govt by controlling many high

positions.

So now we can see how the tensions were mounting those days.

Because on the one hand due to selfless service by our Marga wholetimers in

& around Ananda Nagar, the local people/ villagers were getting benefited

and were coming close. And the villagers began to see how the CPI was

exploiting them.

In reaction, the CPI(M) began to instigate local movements to conspire

against AM. To that end, members plotted and convinced local BDO Ashok

Chakravarty against our AN Ashram. Then in Aug 1966 this BDO came to our

Ashram saying he wanted to be a member of the controlling body of our AM

Degree College.

When it was explained to him that unfortunately he did not meet our

Ashram’s regulations for such a position, then he became quite furious and

irate. Then to counter-attack and get revenge he returned in Feb 1967

demanding for our Marga to support the local communist candidate in the

General Elections. Of course our WT & Margii brothers and sisters humbly

explained about our socio-spiritual approach and told that we do not support any

political party, per se. In that circumstance this negative BDO was

determined for revenge.

And not only that but he was goaded on and supported by the CPI(M). And an

intensive campaign started to defame AM among Purulia locals. And one

serious plot was hatched to attack our Ananda Nagar Ashram. No doubt local

people had developed good relations with our Ashram due to the different

service projects. But communist workers worked hard to undermine that.

And together with the BDO they sabotaged our relation with the villagers

through numerous underhanded and grotesque scene.

For example the communists and the BDO secretly slaughtered many cows and

stealthily spread those remains around the villages in the middle of the

night. And they told and spread the rumours that the Ananda Marg Ashramites

were responsible for the nefarious work. Of course in that case Hindus were

furious since they worship the cow as a goddess. And the CPI(M) told the

Muslim villagers that the AM sadhus had been driven out of Pakistan and

settled in Purulia with deep hatred toward Muslims, and that they would

surely be stealing all their land.

So after drumming up sufficient nasty hatred among villagers, the CPI & BDO

held onerous another meeting in Susundi village on March 3rd 1967. And they made all the Hindus and Muslims present that day to swear by oath on Mahabarata and Koran books to remove these AM sadhus by any means, including murder.

And fifth March was decided to be the day to carry out their dark plot. It

was known by all, including AN Ashram residents, all Purulia gov’t and

police officials and West Bengal gov’t that the event was planned.

Certainly Ananda Marg Sannyasis appealed to both the Purulia gov’t and to

police multiple times for protection and security from the oncoming doom. But

all of those appeals were ignored. And just one skeletal, paltry force of

police was assigned to the ashram grounds. That was the night of March 4th

but it was all only to make a show etc. Proof being that by three

o’clock in the morning of 5th March, Ananda Nagar was declared as being safe

by chief of police. So he left to go back to Purulia, leaving behind only

a small show of around thirty men.

But that too was only in show, as in morning when attack came, not one

policeman raised his hand. And that terrible day of 5 March 1967, thousands

of armed villagers arrived on the scene goaded by the hatred inculcated by

CPI workers. And in that fury the villages swept through our Ananda Nagar

ashram, destroying everything in sight.

On their horror-stricken path hundreds of AM residents were seriously

wounded and five were struck dead with mortal wounds. And not just killed,

but butchered & mauled. Among those victims who fought bravely to defend

Ananda Nagar & AM way of life were Dadas Abhedananda and Sachidananda.

CELEBRATION OF THE DAY

Altogether, 5th March 1967 is a day never to be forgotten in Ananda Marga

history. A day to recognise those who died for the highest goal.

And not just that day but in 1969 and up through the terrible murder of 18

Avadhutas in broad day-light in the early 80’s, and after that also– all

such persons who sacrificed for the special cause of AM ideology are

honourably called as Dadhiicis. And March 5 is in their memory as well.

In this way, Dadhiici Divas is known as a day of great dedication and

sacrifice for the high ideal of AM ideology.

HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED

Thus in the past, prior to ’90, so many great things were done with much

heart-felt dedication for the establishment of our universal AM mission.

Unfortunately nowadays group leaders are moving in a totally different

flow, as they just remain engaged in various divisive misdeeds. And with

their greed and selfishness they are breaking everything– just making

their own cakes– and not at all reflecting the spirit of AM.

By the way these self-centered people are chasing after the power, they

will never get the divine grace of Baba. Because their groupist and crude

ways are not according to dharma.

BABA’S ETERNAL GUIDELINES

So we should not follow any group but just adhere strictly to Baba’s

dharmic codes and teachings and establish the AM ideology.

Baba says, “The unity of A’nanda Ma’rgiis should not be allowed to be

jeopardised for any reason. Unity should be maintained even at the risk of

your life.” (CC, part II, ‘Society’ chapter, point #13)

Baba says, “Fight for your Ideology. Be one with your Ideology. Live for

your Ideology. Die for your ideology.” (Ananda Vanii #14)

Baba says, “Life represents Ideology. Life should be sacrificed for the

Ideology.” (Ananda Vanii #15)

Namaskar,

Gurucharan

OUR SANSKRIT NAMES

Baba says, “At the time of initiation or shortly afterwards, those who do not

have a Sanskrit name should be given one by the ácárya/á. The word deva should

be suffixed to the name…the more the usage of deva as a title, the better it

is. The Sanskrit name should be used in all worldly dealings.” (Caryacarya-1)

what it means by sitting by the shore of the black river.

********************************************

One Should Assess Oneself on the Following

Baba says, “When human beings feel that, ‘Parama Purusa is my

everything’, then that is called as sharan (shelter). No being can come

under the sharan (shelter) of two different Entities. So what is the

meaning of Sharanagati (surrender)? When living beings give up their

‘I-feeling’ by withdrawing the mind from any other object and completely

adopt the feeling that Parama Purusa alone is my everything.”

“Up to the time when any person is thinking that they are working with

their own strength, then we should understand that the feeling of

sharanagati has not yet come in them. And when human beings think that, ‘I

am doing the work only with His strength’, it means the feeling of

sharanagati has come in their mind. So when living beings start thinking

that, ‘Whatever work I am doing, I am doing with His strength’, then they

have the feeling of sharanagati.” (General Darshan, Patna DMC, 1970, [from

audio tape])

Baba

THE MISSING LINK IN MANAGING A.M. SERVICE PROJECTS:

THE ROLE OF MARGIIS IS VITAL

Namaskar,

While there are many trends happening in AM, here below is one important

scenario that deserves the attention of one and all.

These days, most Dadas posted overseas are busy in doing business. They

earn money for their survival and for their different projects; plus they

have to pay “dues” to their supervisors etc to save their own situation. In

this way they have various financial demands. And these demands, including

those for maintaining AM projects, are met increasingly through our Dadas’

various businesses.

As an organisation and Marga family, we have to carefully evaluate how

sustainable this approach is, and how far it supports the well-being of

our Wts.

A LOOK AT HISTORY

When we analyse the history of human society, there are numerous examples

of organizations which were only supported by particular individuals, or

only by a particular rich person, or only by the king. That organization

could not survive for a long time.

In India, in the Muslim period, many mosques had been sustained by the help

of the then Muslim rulers. And when the throne changed to a different

dynasty, thousands of mosques got abandoned.

In the era of domination of Buddhism in India, Buddhist monasteries were

financially supported by various kings. And when the rulers lost their

power, those Buddhist monasteries died a premature death.

The bottom line is, that if any organization is not depending upon support

from its local members and if those local members are not encouraged or

welcomed to be deeply involved in managing those projects, then that type

of organization will not survive long.

Thus, in our Marga in all our service projects, local margii involvement is

necessary. Indeed margiis should be encouraged and empowered with positions

of authority in all local service projects. So in each and every area, in

every district our local margiis should get the opportunity to manage the

projects and more new local people should get initiated and be brought in

to help along. Otherwise if only a migrant / transitory population alone is

managing the project– as is the case of Wts or margiis from other areas–

then it never gets success. And of course non-margiis can leave any time so

they cannot be depended upon to sponsor or oversee our projects.

BABA’S DIRECTION

That is why in each and every country, province, city, and town, Baba has

given the plan that local people– local margiis– should be actively

involved and they should be the managers of our organisational works in

that place. Only by this way can our projects grow. And in this way local

population will feel more and more connected with Ananda Marga. Because

they will see their own hometown citizens mangaing the projects. So they

will have trust etc.

Overall then two points are needed:

(A) Local Margiis must get opportunity to actively engage in and run the

local organisation projects.

(B) Specifically, the indigenous local population must be supportive. Our

AMPS organization must not depend on the migrant or temporary population

only.

OPPOSITE IS GOING ON

But in practice what we see is that most of the projects in AM are run with

the business money of Dadas. This is the case in various sectors. And when

the particular Dada who is funding a project gets transferred, then the

project falls apart. The reason is, that the Dada was overly busy in

business and feeding the project. And neither he had the support from his

supervisors, nor the time, nor the presence of mind to create and nourish

local margiis and inspire and give them duty to run the local service

projects.

But to build up our Marga, Baba guides us to do pracar among the local

people. That is the only way. In every nook and corner around the globe

Baba wants for AM to grow in this way.

Yet when we see the history of the last 20 years, then we see that gradually

our acaryas working overseas are getting more and more dependent on

business to earn money and run the projects. And more business involvement

is needed to fulfill their different financial needs — from local

arrangements to what their supervisors are pressing them to give. In this

condition sincere Wts hardly have time to manage their own psycho-spiritual

development– let alone be able to guide margiis in that arena. Thus Wts

engage more heavily in their business affairs when spiritual life gets

neglected.

OTHER REPERCUSSIONS

Not only that some of most harmful consequences of this are as follows.

A) When such Dadas get transferred, then those very projects – which they are

feeding by their own legal or illegal business – collapse.

B) The standard of acaryas is getting lower day by day. Here low means,

relative to what the conduct of one acarya should be. Most of the acaryas

who are deeply involved in business lose that type of inspiration and

spiritual conduct. For business, these acaryas spend a lot of time traveling

around. During these periods especially, they have much difficulty in following

16 points and dietary rules. Instead they are constantly thinking about business

and money; the mind gets degenerated step by step.

There are so many examples which can be cited with different names and their

history and business. But I think that those who are senior margiis, they

know all those things. Time to time other margiis have also discussed about

this, on this net.

And the overall effect is that our respected acaryas fall prey to negative

microvita.

HOW NEGATIVE MICROVITA DOMINATES

A particular microvita takes influence on the human mind when the mind

begins to degenerate. This causes the mind to satisfy itself compromising

with ideology, to adjust in selfish way with the crude world.

Baba says, “Microvita exerts greater influence on the mind than on the

body. …They (yaksa microvita) advise human beings, “Practice dharma

sa’dhana’ as and where you are. Continue it in perfect adjustment with

everything.” That is, they advise a kind of selfish adjustment.” (MV, p.106)

In result we have seen so many WTs who were involved in serious

businesses affairs left their acaryaship. And they are nowadays leading

degenerated life. The number of such degenerated avadhutas are not one or

two. Rather the tragedy is that this list will counts up to several hundred.

Unfortunately, when these acaryas were earning money by different

businesses and feeding their own projects, then they never thought that

their fate will be like this. Because, according to the cosmic principle,

progress or degeneration does not come in a flash, usually.

In a continuous way, the mind gets crudified or elevated according to the

actions which one does, or in which one is involved. For example, initially

those well-intentioned Dadas thought for money I have to gain the money.

But then in that course when they are involved in jewelry business, or

selling various goods and clothes, ladies garments, soda water and other

foods and company products, then in an attempt to build their business

they attend different lowly environments at the beach, or pseudo-culture or nude

gatherings. Then they are forced to see the ugly scene. So in the face of

all this their mind gets degenerated. And such WTs end up justifying this

negative scene by convincing themselves that “this way we have to adjust

and do Baba’s work. To earn money.”

So this is the sad state of affairs because surely when the human mind is

exposed to such types of negativity then the outcome is not good.

WRONG UNDERSTANDING OF “OBJECTIVE ADJUSTMENT”

In this way those WT’s get trapped and their flow gets totally affected &

by this way the mind gets more and more degenerated. Means these acaryas

forget the goal– engrossed in avidya maya. Yet as they get more immersed in this

they convince themselves and do self-cheating by justifying internally and

also to their friends, “Objective adjustment…Objective adjustment…We

should compromise with our rules and regulations, for earning money”.

Meanwhile the real definition of objective adjustment, such people they do

not know. And in confused state, they think that staying in five-star

hotels, taking bath in swimming pools with other nude or semi-nude people

of opposite sex. Or during sadhana, even listening to pop music. To such

things these acaryas misguidingly give the label, “objective adjustment”.

In the name of adjustment, various Didis are also involved in business. And

they do not follow Baba’s guidelines. Instead they keep long hair, go to

different beauty parlors to make their hair proper, and they use all sorts

of cosmetic make-up on their faces and dress as if they are business

representatives.

So you see the situation. In the name of objective adjustment, such acaryas

are cheating themselves. And they get involved in crude business

activities, 24 hours. Unfortunately, the whole day they pass their time,

thinking about and selling their merchandise or smuggled items-those things

that they are selling. Maybe in the beach side, or street selling. Or

working as salesman wandering around the market.

So when in this way their daytime passes, then one can imagine what happens

to their sadhana and asana. That is zero.

So in such a condition, earning money becomes the primary goal. And Parama

Purusa, becomes secondary. And in that degenerate state, such people lose

the path. And they become microvita yaksa, in due course. This is one

horrible stage.

Here we are not saying that this happens with all Dadas etc. Rather the point

is that any Wt who begins to compromise in this way suffers and faces

degeneration. And this entire formula applies to margiis and LFTs as well.

ALARMING SITUATION

Indeed, this very negative situation is alarming for everyone. Maybe as a

WT and involved in business, or maybe, a family margii who is doing a lot

of adjustment and compromising with the various Baba’s teachings. So

everyone should be careful. And mend their way. Bring back unto the path of

dharma. For future progress, and to achieve the goal – Parama Purusa.

If one unknowingly even, does something wrong or sinful. Then the wrongdoer

has to face the consequence. Ignorance of the rule will not help. Or it

will not be one excuse, that “I was not aware that giving more importance

to money will open the door to convert myself to microvita – yaksa”.

Human life is very rare. Our goal, or aim of life is Parama Purusa. And

eternal peace will be achieved at His feet. There is no other way. Only

Parama Purusa is the shelter. Not money.

BABA’S SPECIAL TEACHINGS

Some important notes and quotes are here below which relate to this entire

them of those who meet their fate due to over-involvement in business

affairs.

Baba says, “Those who were decent human beings and deeply spiritual, and

used to collect money for a noble cause, but in the process of fund raising

forgot Parama Purus’a and attached greater importance to their fund raising

at the cost of Parama Purus’a — that is, they remembered Parama Purus’a as

part of dharma sa’dhana’ and collected money for a great cause, and

although Parama Purus’a was the goal collecting money became the dominant

desire — they attain the state of yaks’a devayonii after their demise.”

(MV, p.105)

Baba says, “Those who constantly think about rupees or dollars attain a

kind of sama’dhi, too, for they become completely identified with their

crude object of attraction. If such people incur heavy losses due to the

collapse of their business or bank, they will die an instant death, for the

pillars on which their life was built crumbled beneath them. So, once they

lost their wealth, they lost their lives too.” (APH-6, p.404)

Baba says, “Microvita do not divert the mind from the path of dharma, but

they do not allow the human mind to accept dharma as the dominant

propensity.” (MV, p.106)

Even then I have deep faith that in the near future we will advance ahead

rapidly and build up a brilliant AM society and spread the ideals of dharma

and welfare to all the four corners.

OVERALL MESSAGE

The overall message then is two-fold. To run successful AM service projects

in any area, both local margiis and the general society must support and be

actively engaged in that project. Our Wts are to advise but not indulge

in the daily operation of those projects, otherwise our service programs

will not last. And side by side, regardless of whether one is WT or margii,

we should be extremely vigilant not to allow the mind to become so crudified

that we lose our sadhana and become totally immersed in worldly works. For

this honesty is needed both with ourselves and those around us. The aim must

be Him and not any mundane engagement.

BABA’S BLESSING

Here we should take help from Baba’s following guideline.

Baba says, “There are many good people in this world who want to do good

work. You should convince them, work with them, and organise them to do

maximum service for the suffering humanity.” (PNS-17, p.51)

Namaskar,

Chandramohan

PRABHAT SAMGIITA

“Aja’na’ Pathik eseche…” – P.S. 4490

Purport:

The Parama Purusa Ajana Pathik has come. He has filled this mortal world

with the love of flowers and fruits. For Him no one is distant, no one is

alien, everyone is His own– close and intimate.

He has wiped away all the tears and removed the suffering of everyone.

Baba has come riding on the chariot of effulgence. He is associated with

one and all through His ota and prota yoga. He is pulling everyone with His

divine attraction and with the blessing of His varabhaya mudra. Today Baba

has come. The whole world is inundated with His love– His grace….

***************************************************

Fate of Egotistical People

Baba says, “It is only when the human beings, become puffed up with vanity

and misuse the power granted to them by Parama Purus’a, that He steals

everything from them. Hence, He is called Darpaha’rii – the stealer of

vanity…Vain people suffer a similar fate when their vanity is destroyed

as the balloon faces when its air is let out. But, does Parama Purus’a

snatch away everything from everyone? No, He takes away only when the unit

beings try to create obstructions in the flow of His creation.” (APH-4,

p.247)

Note: In the above teaching Baba warns us about the fate of arrogant

people. As we know the ultimate antidote is developing a devotional link in

life and surrendering to the sweet will of Parama Purusa. Then in that case

arrogance will not get the scope to crop up. Unfortunately some in our

Marga overlook their devotional practices and instead get wrapped up in

their own plans and programs. Such persons can be easily recognised as all

day long they tell, ‘I did this or I did that… I delivered one lecture

and all were amazed… I created one project… or I should be the

ruler…’ and on and on they go about their own unit deeds & desires–

intoxicated by their little accomplishments and imposing their will on

others. To lovingly rectify such persons, Parama Purusa describes above

what dramatic intervention He takes. Looking around today, we can see how

some in our Marga have already undergone this thing and others are going to

experience the same similar fate.

“Shra’van’ii pu’rn’ima’r katha’ a’j mane par’e…” (P.S. 4954)

Purport:

Baba, today the divine story of Shra’van’ii Pu’rn’ima’ is coming in my
mind, in my heart. O’ Bandhu, the memory of Shra’van’ii Pu’rn’ima’ is
floating in my mind. The glorious advent of that historical day is still
fresh in my mind when the divine play between the staticity and divinity
started happening [1]. That time the sweet fragrant air was saturated
with the aroma of the night jasmine; it was permeating the entire
atmosphere. This yuthika’ flower was full of sweetness & love. A sweet,
mild breeze was blowing and various creatures including frogs were
singing the chorus with great joy. On the crude mind, the grace of
Supreme Consciousness happened with the divine force of ista mantra
shakti. On that very day of Shravanii Purnima new vibrations of
effulgence were created on this earth as the radiant effulgence pierced
through the fog & the darkness. O’ Baba, the memory of that Shra’van’ii
Pu’rn’ima’ is still fresh in my mind, by Your grace…

[1] Here Baba is poetically referring to when the first initiate
Kalicharanji was blessed by receiving initiation then he started
repeating his Ista mantra & with the incantative power of the mantra his
sleeping divinity was aroused.

== SHRAVANII PURNIMA ==

~ JOURNEY FROM PRE-HISTORIC ERA TO PRESENT DAY ~

Namaskar,
With our AM festival of Shravanii Purnima (23 Aug 2010) up and coming,
as a family this is a perfect time to contemplate the great significance
of this most blessed day. For it was on this very occasion, in 1939,
that the Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji began the holy mission of Ananda
Marga. And it is this very mission that will lead the entire humanity up
to its unparalleled glory.

THAT PRE-HISTORIC ERA

The human race has had an arduous and long journey up to this present
era. Verily, it was ions and ions ago that humans first came onto this
earth.

Baba says, “Human beings were born onto this earth about one million
years ago.” (AV-5)

Yet those early humans were quite undeveloped in their ways. Due to so
many hardships and the struggle for survival, those early human could
not advance.

Baba says, “In prehistoric times people were no better than animals.
There was no difference between primitive humans living in caves and
ape-men and proto-apes living in caves.” (APH-6)

So for tens and even hundreds of thousands of years, humans were just
wallowing in animalistic ways, unable to develop mentally or live in a
remotely civilised way.

THE FIRST SIGNS OF PROGRESS

Considering that humans came on this earth so very long ago, it was only
relatively recently that they could progress.

Baba says, “Humanity’s journey on the path of civilization started only
15,000 years ago. This can be inferred from the fact that human beings
began evolving language about this time.” (AFPS-9)

So it was around 15,000 years ago, that those few early rishis and munis
first propounded the vedas and began asking existential questions such
as ‘who am I’, ‘from where have I come’, and ‘what is the goal of life’.
Thus began the human quest for truth and divine realisation.

THE ADVENT OF TWO MAHASAMBHUTIS

However, it would still take thousands of more years for the general
society to also begin its advancement.

Baba says, “A full-fledged civilization, with the four symbols of
advancement – agriculture, the wheel, dress and script – started only
about 7000 years ago. Human beings had grasped the rudimentals of these
four inventions by this time. Pictorial letters were invented less than
7000 years ago, and philosophy was discovered about 4000 years ago.”
(AFPS-9)

Thus it was only 7000 years ago with the advent of Lord Shiva that human
beings could live in a more organised and civilised way. It needed the
advent of a Mahasambhuti to pull human beings up to this respectable
level where they could formulate the basis of a civilised society.

And that progress continued for some time but then stalled again. At
that point, 3500 years later, the next Mahasambhuti took advent on this
earth. With Sri Krsna’s advent, humans progressed in many ways,
including how to make a more personal link with God. But even then the
progress was slow as it took the humanity hundreds and thousands of
years to realise Sri Krsna’s teachings. Not until the birth of great
devotees like Mirabai and Caetanya Mahaprabhu could people get a glimpse
of Krnsa’s intimate guidelines– and even then many of His teachings
were lost. And once again the society fell into stagnancy.

BABA’S DIVINE ADVENT, SHRAVANII PURNIMA,

AND THE START OF THE ANANDA MARGA MISSION

And that stagnancy continued, or even worsened, right up until this
ultra-modern era of the 20th century. Materialism, communism,
atheism, and religious dogmas had covered the earth. There was no light
in any direction and even the good people could not find the way to pull
society forward. In that desperate and bleak circumstance where people
were sunk in gloom, ignorance, and suffering, there was the dire need
for the advent of a Great Personality.

Baba says, “At the transitional point, human beings become confused:
they lose the ability to discriminate between dharma and adharma, what
they should and what they should not do. At that moment, the advent of a
great personality becomes an imperative necessity… to teach people
what dharma is and what adharma is, what to do and what not to do, and
which path would bring the highest fulfilment in their lives. He arrived
at the right time, the transitional period in history.” (NKS, Disc: 16)

Baba graciously took advent and manifested Himself in 1921, this divine
truth we all know. And it was only a short 18 years later, on the day of
Shravanii Purnima in 1939, that He graciously began the great mission of
Ananda Marga by initiating His first disciple into AM sadhana.

Baba says, “This is Shra’van’ii Purnima. It is an important day….That
was the first spiritual initiation I ever imparted to anyone. And that
same day, Shra’van’ii Purnima, has again returned.” (AFPS-5, ‘Shravanii
Purnima’ Discourse)

So although the organisation AMPS was not formed until 1955, the great
ideological and devotional mission of Ananda Marga formally began years
earlier in 1939 with the first initiation on Shravanii Purnima.

HUMANITY HAS A NEW PATHWAY

Hence the day of Shravanii Purnima bears great significance because it
is this very initiation into AM sadhana that marks the beginning of a
new era for the humanity.

Baba says, “…The light of sa’dhana’ shall dispel the thick darkness,
notwithstanding the night of the pangs of humanity. Sunshine is destined
in human life.” (A’nanda Va’nii #39)

So on Shravanii Purnima (1939), Baba graced the humanity by founding His
ideological mission and beginning the devotional cult of AM sadhana. We
can say this day truly marks the inception of Ananda Marga. And each
year we observe this special occasion as one of our AM festivals.

And it is not just a festival of Ananda Marga, it is a day that bears
significance to all. Because Baba’s teachings are for everyone– the
entire humanity. None will be left behind; all will be served and
respected; and all will be given the opportunity and scope to advance on
the path of spirituality.

By His divine advent and with the teaching of sadhana, Baba has given a
pathway for all to move ahead and establish themselves in the highest
glory and drift in His bliss.

PRESENT AND FUTURE VANGUARDS

OF THE SOCIETY

Thus Shravanii Purnima is the occasion that celebrates how the Lord and
has come with a mission and showed the path to all.

And since 1939, those who have come onto the path of AM sadhana and
taught that dharma to others, they are the veritable vanguards of the
society. They are the venerable ones. And those who are now following
the ideological mission and devotional cult of AM today will one day be
venerated by others.

Because Baba has given the pathway and those humans who share that with
others and watch over society’s growth and development are the true
vanguards.

Baba says, “Yours should be a glorious march towards the Supreme Goal,
and you should remember that you are not to pause a moment during this
movement. The entire human society is anxiously waiting for you, for
your service. You will have to shoulder a great responsibility for this
suffering humanity. You know that humanity is bleeding, and you will
have to save it. You should remember that if you do not help humanity,
who else will come and shoulder the responsibility? It is you, you are
to do everything. You are the torch bearers of human civilization. You
are the pioneers of the human march, you are the vanguards of the new
civilization.” (Baba, ‘Social Discourses’)

BABA’S BLESSING

By Baba’s grace we are fortunate to have come on the path of AM. It is
this very path that will lead us and the entire humanity to the apex our
human existence– life divine. And it is this very path which began on
Shravanii Purnima day in 1939. As the festival of this day is again upon
us, may we all experience His bliss and blessing on this most momentous
and memorable occasion and share that love with one and all.

Baba says, “Oh! the followers of Ananda Marga, march along the path of
satya and awaken the satya hidden in you. Develop the cosmic
consciousness that is latent in you. In the same manner as Bhagiratha
through his sagacious powers summoned the holy currents of the
Gangottarii through the dark mountain-chasms. Through those currents of
satya, enliven your society and carry it along on the path of the
infinite ocean of inseparable souls which are awakening on the road to
the Supreme Union – the holy confluence of the sea. When this is
attained, there will be no mean wanderings or the externalized struggle
for existence. There will be one Universal “You” who will forget is own
self in the serenity of the serene, the serene, the exaltation of
Consciousness and the holy touch of the supremely blessed.” (SS-1)

Namaskar,
Subhash

Eternal Truth

Baba says, “The fact is that human ability, human capability and human
efficiency are almost nil. Nothing really belongs to a human. He gets
everything from the Supreme Entity. If he does not take food for
three or four days continuously – of for three, four or five years –
then nothing will be left of him. He will not be able to speak or
move. Thus, nothing belongs to humans. A bhakta knows that what
belongs to him is His, because he is His.” (AV-2, p.6)

O the Divine Entity who are You who has come in my flower garden in this
spring season with a sweet and charming smile. When I saw You for the first
time I was surprised, and it was difficult to think that such an attractive
Entity would be here. I wanted to look towards You more intimately but I
could not, that time I was sitting in the flower garden unmindfully.

I couldn’t even hear the footsteps of Your arrival, & You did not give
any hint or clue before coming to this garden. So I could not receive You
properly nor could I offer You a garland. You have graced me by coming here
but You have not cared about receiving an invitation. Please tell me, O’
Divine Entity, who are You?

Understanding Your liila is impossible. Within a flash You become tough and
then in the next moment You are as tender as a flower– like a garland of
love –so sweet and charming. O divine Entity You cannot be understood. You
are Infinite–no beginning, & no end. Through the practice of sadhana and
dhyana I am surrendering myself at Your alter.

Baba You have graced me by coming to my mental flower garden…

== WE ARE NOT AT ALL HINDU ==

Namaskar.
Sometimes I go along with different Dadas to do pracar work in and around
my district, region, and to other places also. And it is surprising that
when talking to non-margiis then they say that AM is like the Hindu
religion. And the people ask, “Swamiji, are you Hindu?’ And our Dada (i.e.
Swamiji) replied ‘yes’. Hearing all this while moving around India with
Dadas was surprising for me. And then I wondered if Dadas in overseas areas
identify themselves as Christians or Jewish etc.

What happens overseas I cannot say, but here in India I see all this going
on; but I did not say anything or oppose. Because then Dadas may not like
to have me around. But this is the common experience that I saw when moving
about with various Dadas. And if we are moving about on the train and then
common people sometimes approach our Dadas and ask if they are Hindu or
not. Because not always on the train do they wear their turbins etc. And
again Dadas reply in the affirmative about being Hindu. And then sometimes
they further justify that the practices are same as Hinduism: fasting,
puja, kiirtan etc.

By this way our Dadas get more respect. And some overseas Dadas also come
and move around the dogmatic holy places here in India and when I ask them
about why they do like this, then they reply that ‘Indian soil, Hinduism
etc are just like Ananda Marga’.

So due to certain lack of understanding Baba’s teachings then this dogma
about AM being a form of Hinduism is still prevailing. Because not in one
place but I am two trips outside– one to Balii, Indonesia and one to
Africa. And both the places some of our Dada link themselves up with
Hinduism, especially in Africa where they even registered as Hindus.

Of course, solid Ananda Margiis are not blind in this way but some who are
less strong get involved in these types of interactions. So because some
Dadas are regularly giving such replies I thought that we should get rid
from the confusion and have written these following things.

NOT LIKE THE DOGMA OF HINDUISM

In beginning period, before 1960, Ananda Marga was facing serious
opposition from the dogmatic Hindu priests. By seeing the way and different
teachings of Ananda Marga, it superficially looks like Ananda Margiis are
Hindu. Because fasting, puja, and sentient food, meditation, so many
similarities. And in Hindu religion also, some or other form, some or more
degree, all these things are present. And then, no doubt in Hinduism these
things were mixed with various sorts of dogma and that made them
unpalatable for rational persons.

SO MANY OFF-SHOOTS OF HINDUISM

Because in India, in this 19th and 20th Centuries, many off-shoots came
from this Hindu religion. Just like “Yogada’ Matha” started from Swami
Yogananda. And Ramakrsna Mission with Ramakrsna Paramahansa, and
Vivekananda. Then Arvind Ghos in Pandicheri. And Hare Krsna started by
Prabhupada. Also Maharshi Mahesh Yogi, who started Transcendental
Meditation. And so many swamis like Swami Rama, Acarya Rajanish, then
Divine Life, Swami Shivananda etc.

All these above founders and religions are just a little modification of
Hindu religion. So many dogmas are there. In other words we can say, these
all are reformist type. They don’t like for major change. Because these
yogis they were ordinary human beings so they did not have courage to fight
against dogma. So age-old dogma of caste system, and different disparities
and domination of priests etc, and so many more dogmas they did not even
touch those points. And that was not enough for all-round progress for
everyone. So, Ananda Marga was the need.

SOME OF THE EARLY DHARMIC HISTORY OF AM

In the beginning, when Ananda Marg started in 1955, many people started
thinking that this too was one off-shoot of the Hindu religion. But later
on they found that domination of priests was not there, that’s why
exploiter priests they became agitated by seeing AM.

In India the Brahmins were treated as superior by the dogmatic Hindu
culture. To distinguish their personality, all dogmatic Brahmins they keep
one sacred hair (antenna) on their head. In local language, sacred hair is
called as tiiki or teek (pig tail). Or some areas, churki.

So-called brahmins they can cut all the hair from their head, up to just
half-inch long. But on the top of their head, around the sahasrara cakra,
minimum one square centimeter up to one square inch sometimes area, and
those who are strong fundamentalists, pandits, they keep around four square
inches reserved for growing the hair. So in the top of the head, those hair
which is left to grow, they grow up to four, five, seven, ten inches.

Whatever it may be. So from distance it is looking like one antenna of hair
on the head. It is just like one television antenna on the house looking
completely different from the rest of the house, clearly seen from the
distance.

WHY THE HINDU DOGMA KEEPING SACRED HAIR??

The question is that, why Hindu priests are keeping such an antenna on
their head. What is the reason? What is the benefit? Priests they like to
identify some difference from the common society, so they get more respect.

Because Christians and Muslims, they don’t keep. General aboriginal public
of India cannot keep it whereas the Aryans community in India public of can
keep, and priest can keep longer and biggest one. Longest sacred hair. In
short we can say that this sacred hair – this antenna – is one sign of
Hindu believers. Still in the villages this dogma is going on.

WHY THE HINDU DOGMA KEEPING SACRED THREAD??

Another dogma is also very prevalent. That is, keeping sacred thread. On
their body directly Brahmins are keeping one thread, which starts from the
left shoulder and goes down diagonally to the right waist. And then back up
the back, tied up to make one ring around the body.

When babies are born, then they do not have right to put this sacred
thread. But when they are grown up, one ceremony happens when priests get
alot of donation. And they use certain chanting. And bless with that sacred
thread (yajina-upaviit). And this special yajina-upaviit only brahmins can
keep. Only certain caste. Not vaeshya, ksattriya, shuddra, such persons cannot
keep. Even those who belong to Hindu religion. On this point of yagyopavit,
brahmins supremacy is established. Only brahmins are allowed to do. Earlier if
anybody who belongs to so-called lower caste, even of Hindu religion, is
trying to wear, then they will be punished.

As I described above, there are two serious external symbols of their
supremacy. One is sacred hair (antenna), and another is yajina-upaviit that is
sacred thread. All these yogiis those who were just reformist type, and as
I described their name and religion above, they did not try to touch this
dogma. For them it was impossible to oppose this. So although these dogmas
were creating huge disparity even within Hindu religion itself; but
the sentiment was so strong that if these yogis would have opposed this
then they themselves would have been crushed to zero. So all these above
yogis, reformists, their followers are keeping all those things if they like.

NOT SACRED, JUST SOBER

Here is the real history of how the sacred thread came into being.

Baba says, “Most of the people in the Vedic age drank excessive amounts of
fermented juice, called somarasa, and ate meat, including beef. After the
advent of Shiva, in the time of the Yajurveda, people were encouraged to
rear cows to produce milk and to discontinue eating meat. Nevertheless,
many people in the Vaedic age were alcoholics, and even those who
performed religious rituals had great difficulty carrying out their
duties properly. Consequently, a custom was introduced which made it
compulsory for priests to wear a deer skin across their shoulders, called
upavita. This clearly identified the priest so that he would not be
served alcohol while conducting religious ceremonies. Gradually, over
the course of time, the deer skin was transformed into a thread. Today
this thread is the symbol of the Brahmin caste in Hindu society.” (PNS-16)

AM = ONE HUMAN SOCIETY

Since beginning when AM started in 1955, Baba started a system of ‘One
Human Society’ and gave the slogan “Ma’nava Ma’nava Eka Hai”. It was very
clear by Baba’s approach itself that Baba started initiating everybody,
without any caste differentiation. But before coming of AM in 1955, only
brahmins were allowed to do sadhana.

Not only that, Baba has hammered on the head of the dogma with sledge hammer.
And He has made the rule that before taking initiation, they have to remove
their sacred thread and sacred hair. So on the point of removing these two
so-called sacred things, brahmins became strong deadly enemy against AM.
Because Baba has hit on their life source. Livelihood. In other words, the
existence of these so-called Brahmins was threatened. So, these so-called
brahmins opposed AM with their full strength, tooth and nail.

So AM is not at all dogmatic Hinduism rather it is something much, much
higher. So we should all think and review on this so as to avoid making a
wrong picture in the future. Because after all the world is changing fast
and the dogmatic religions are falling our of favour. So we should present
our Marga as the dharma that it is and not sink into the depths of the
dogmatic religions like Hinduism.

And of course most margiis and field workers are indeed following directly
in Baba’s dharmic footsteps– and by keeping the saffron flag high we are
reaching our Goal.

BABA’S BLESSING

Baba says, “Parama Purus’a has blessed you with the hands to work and legs
to move; has infused you with the stamina to act; has endowed you with
practical intelligence, so make the best use of them in the fight against
the demons. You must not sit idle relying on fate. Be vigorously active.”
(Ananda Vanii #46)

Namaskar
Jawaharlal

Note: Those days were not just peaceful, sweet days of Jamalpur. Those who
are thinking that it was just era of “Vraj”, they do not know the real
history. Baba was inviting direct confrontation against all sorts of dogma.
Many Margiis suffered alot when they cut their sacred thread and hair. They
were opposed by their relatives, their friends, their other village
neighbors. And threatened, and so many places they got beating also.

All these things happened, mostly in rural area of India. And several
thousand Margiis suffered and faced the problem. And they did not bow down.
Remained as bona fide member of AM and fought against dogma. All negative
people they created huge opposition. Like thunder or hail storm. But they
remained standing undauntedly. Only surrendering at Baba’s feet, this was
possible. So much struggle those Margiis faced.

******************************************
Proper Plan of Life

Baba is revealing how ignorant, short-sighted people think and plan in
their dogmatic way.

Baba says, “Some people consider that one should start intuitional practice
in old age when a person has more leisure, after one has spent the prime of
one’s life earning money. People are afraid that they may face insecurity
and difficulties in their old age if they do not accumulate enough wealth
before their bodies weaken with age, rendering them incapable of hard work.
They regard the prime of life as the period intended for earning money, and
old age with its decreased capacity for hard work as the time to remember
God. They are labouring under the misconception that hard work is not
necessary for intuitional practice and that old age is therefore the proper
time for it.” (AMEP, ’98, p.131-32)

Now here following Baba is giving the answer.

Baba says, “Whoever is born is bound to die and one is constantly
approaching death, not knowing when it will come. It is never certain if
one will live to grow old. Yet people reserve the most important work of
practising sa’dhana’ for the time when the body has become completely
enfeebled and the fatuous mind of old age has become entangled in the
reactions of this life to such an extent that it is afraid of starting
anything new. Ordinarily it is fear of one’s approaching death that makes
one think of God in old age. One’s evil deeds begin to haunt one, and one
starts praying and imploring God to save him or her from the consequences
of one’s deeds. There is no value in remembering God in old age, when it is
not possible to concentrate the mind due to the weakness and disease of the
body and its preoccupation with the reactions (sam’ska’ras) of the deeds of
this life. The mind then is caught up in the infirmities of the body, in
the diseases of old age, impending death, and most of all, in memories of
past incidents, and it is impossible to concentrate it. For these reasons
one is incapable of intuitional practice.” (AMEP, ’98, p.132)

Note: This problem is such a common ailment that 99.9% of the people in the
present society are caught up in this whirlpool. And by this way their
whole life gets wasted. It is our duty to think again and again and reach
the conclusion about what is the best approach to utilise this priceless
human life.

Baba

“Tumi yadi bha’lo ba’so keno na’hi a’so ka’che…” (PS 3039)

Purport:

Baba, by Your grace, I have so much love for You. If You love me then
why don’t You come close. Baba, please come in the depths of my heart– I
am calling You. O’ Divine Entity, why are You smiling from a distance in
Your extremely charming and captivating form. Why are You not coming close
so I can hold You tightly and make You mine.

O’ my Dearmost, I have been waiting with great anticipation for Your
arrival, but, alas, You are remaining far away– beyond my reach. Baba, in
the disappointment and sadness of Your not coming, in that hopelessness the
braids in my hair have become loose and fallen. My exquisitely threaded
flower garland which I made exclusively for You has become dried up and
fallen to the ground, on the dusty floor. O’ Rupamaya [1], O’ Divine
Entity, with the tears pouring from my coloured eyes, everything in this
expressed universe is floating away.

Baba, I have heard that You remember everything and that You never
forget anything; I have heard that You keep everyone in Your mind, always.
All are Your very close. O’ Divine One, at last You have satisfied my
heart. By Your grace, You have come to me in the madhavii garden and
saturated each & every pore of my mind with Your heavenly sweetness. Baba,
You have graciously filled my heart with Your love; You have showered Your
grace and made me Yours…

NOTES FOR PRABHAT SAMGIITA 3039:

[1] Rupamaya: [‘Rup’ means ‘form’ and ‘may’ means ‘consisting of’.] This is
one of the innumerable names of Parama Purusa that describes one of His
infinite qualities: Namely, how He has graciously come in the form. By His
wish He has manifested Himself and come in His charming form. That is why
one of the names of Parama Purusa is Rupamaya.

BABA HAS GIVEN EVERYTHING–

INCLUDING ALL THE ANANDA VANIIS

THAT ARE NEEDED

Namaskar,
Our blessed holiday of Ananda Purnima is coming soon – May 27. That is one of
the most glorious occasions in our Marga. We all gather and celebrate His
Divine advent.

Unfortunately, since 1990, this highly devotional occasion has been riddled
by one dogma: The issueing of Fake Ananda Vaniis by one or more groups.

Here is the story about that and how we must rid this dogma from our AM
society.

SOME OF THE HISTORY

Since some time the discussion has going on how we can solve the problem
of the Fake Ananda Vanii. Because since 1991 every year, two times we are
receiving some quotes, wrongly named as ‘Ananda Vanii’ by the leading
groupists.

So, as one solution, in our unit we collectively decided that since we
already have 74 Ananda Vaniis, originally given by Baba — then why not
choose one of these for the twice yearly unveiling of an Ananda Vanii
during Ananda Purnima and New Year’s Day.

In that case we will treat that Ananda Vanii as the guideline for the next
six months. And then we will select another one for Ananda Purnima from
Baba’s original collection, “Ananda Vanii Samgraha”.

Thus some margiis think that instead of having some groupist politicians
fabricate a Fake Ananda Vanii, in place of this it is far to select the
Ananda Vaniis from the pool of the Ananda Vanii collection.

FAKE COLLECTION- FIRST STARTED BY SARVATMANANDAJI

Sarvatmanandji created one negative trend in 1991 & according to his own
selfish desire he was selecting one quote and calling it Ananda Vanii. When
in fact he was making Fake Ananda Vaniis. That is why most margiis do not
like what he did as it is against Baba’s system. So ultimately we thought
Baba’s original and true Ananda Vaniis is enough; let those groupist people
choose their quotes in their dogmatic approach call it what they like– but
we do not appreciate what they are doing.

Margiis requested those groupist persons to follow Baba’s system and select
an Ananda Vanii from amongst Baba’s perfect jewels of 74 Ananda Vaniis–
however because of their dogmatic mind they do not like to listen and they
got stuck up in their dogma. But by Baba’s grace, rational margiis from my
unit firmly maintained that we must adhere to Baba’s teachings. Let those
groupist people do what they are doing– but we will follow Baba.

85 SUTRAS IN ANANDA SUTRAM…

Nowadays various margiis also give the proper logic, that as in Ananda
Sutram there are 85 Sutras. So it is very limited in number-since it is not
hundreds of thousands. Similarly we have limited DMC discourses which is
also not several thousand. And we know that only DMC discourses can be
printed as Subhasita Samgraha. Not others.

Only one Supreme Command we have, not many. Doing Guru Puja, we have only
four slokas, not hundreds and thousands. Because Baba has given everything
in a very pointed and concentrated way. So people should not feel that AM
ideology is very, very difficult to study and understand. But surely if it
would have been fifty thousand sutras in Ananda Sutram, and twenty thousand
DMC discourses, or several hundred mantras of our sadhana or several
thousand Vaniis then it would have been a problem.

But in truth Baba has made it very easy and graspable.

HOW THE DOGMATIC RELIGIONS DO

On the other side we see that the Hindu religion has thousands of
ritualistic things– and similar type of dogma is there in all the
religions. They do not have simple, straight-forward, pin-pointed
teachings. So they are all confused about their do’s and don’ts. By that
way, the common public thinks that to understand the scripture is not an
easy job. It is the work of priests only. Seeing the opportunity, priests
exploit the common mass profusely. To not allow this situation in Ananda
Marga, Baba gave His teaching in a very concentrated way. So that our
slogan is – “Dharma for All.”

So in the meeting it was concluded, that our duty is to follow bhagavad dharma
so we should follow those Ananda Vaniis which He has graciously given us.
And we should select each time only one from this pool. And treat it as the
present Ananda Vanii of that occasion – New Year’s or Ananda Purnima.

What is the need to select some Baba’s quote and treat it as the new Ananda
Vanii. And finally add in the Ananda Vanii collection book, and go on
multiplying the number of vaniis each and every year. And in the course of
several hundred years, the number of quotes will increase to more than the
actual Vaniis. So everything will be mess, chaotic.

One other margii emphasized that in true sense there is no need to create
Fake Ananda Vaniis from random quotes. After all, that is a quote. A quote
is quote – but a piece of a different discourse whereas an Ananda Vanii is
an Ananda Vanii – a full discourse unto itself.

So quotes and Ananda Vaniis are two different things – non-interchangeable.

We know there are many sutras which Baba gave in DMC that He did not
include in Ananda Sutram. In that case we must not include those in Ananda Sutram.
Nor can we call it a sutra of Ananda Sutram.

Similarly, Baba’s quote from various discourses, cannot be treated as
Baba’s Ananda Vanii. They are not the same thing.

Discussing all these, everyone became satisfied that Baba gave total 74
Vaniis and it is enough. From there we will select, and every year we will
do like this. When the time will come then we will select another one from
this Ananda Vanii Samgraha book. So tomorrow we will have our dharmacakra
and decide what will be the Ananda Vanii for 2010 occasion of Ananda Purnima.

Namaskar,
Karma Rasa
&
Gurucharan

“A’lo eseche ghum bheungeche, phuler vane raun legeche…” (P.S. 2253)

Purport:

With the arrival of effulgence, all drowsiness & sleepiness have been
vanquished. In the flower garden, new growth has come. The buds of those
flowers which were in hibernation have now all bloomed. And they have
filled the flowers with nectar; it is overflowing.

Each and everyone’s heart is vibrated with the new color. Each and every
movement in life is vibrated in His flow. The air, the water, the earth,
and the sky– everything is filled with His vibration and charm. The advent
of the new dawn has come; now there will not be any more cries or
laments due to the darkness. In the language and expression there will
no longer be any bitterness– rather it will be saturated with sweetness
and love. Love will be the source of all inspiration.

This transformation has all happened due to the causeless grace of
Parama Purusa; He created this momentum and changed the whole vibration of
this entire universe. He filled it with His own color. The new dawn has
come and the drowsiness of staticity and dogma has disappeared. The
sweetness and charm of spirituality has advented…

== WHY NOT ACCEPTED AS BABA’S BOOK ==

Namaskar,
One of the groups has always glorified the words Baba spoke in Bengali and
printed them properly whereas what Baba spoke in Hindi they left lying
in the dust.

When Baba spoke in Bengali about points of samaj then they always
made sure that got published in Baba’s books such as Varna Vicitra and
Shabda Cayanika etc. But when Baba speaks in Hindi about other samajas and
their histories etc, then those discourses they manipulate stating that Ac.
Raghunath is the author of those talks.

By having the book appear in Raghunath’s name then people do not even
know that this is Baba’s book. And that is what is discussed herein.

I am reminding us all of what was witnessed by thousands of margiis who
personally attended those DMC’s during Baba’s northern India tour in the
first few months of 1984. And several thousand more margiis are there who
did not attend but heard about all these things.

Here then in story format I am sharing the details how Baba toured in 1984
but unfortunately the many discourses given on that lengthy tour never got
printed in His name. Please read below.

BABA’S HISTORIC 1984 TOUR

Baba did one historic education tour in 1984 when He did more than one
dozen DMC’s across northern India & the following is the story of that time.

When Baba did His grand tour and conducted so many DMC’s in Hindi speaking
areas in 1984, then that time Baba directly gave important guidelines to
all the samaj secretaries from various samaj places which He visited. Means
it was an education tour and wherever He went all along the way Baba did
field walks at so many temples, churches, forts, and old buildings. This
was part of His pre-planned tour that during field walks He would visit so
many historical and archeological sites. And always local margiis
accompanied Baba on these walks and got the blessed opportunity to hear
Baba talk about all these places and much more.

Sure enough the DMC discourses and general darshans of this same 1984 tour
which Baba delivered got printed in Subhasita Samgraha parts 16-17 and
Ananda Vacanamrtam part 22, respectively. This was given. In addition, it
was also His big planning to make the tour and visitation of many
historical sites. And in that way Baba gave in-depth and elaborate
explanations of those sites to the Margiis and samaj leaders present. One
other important point in all of this is that Acarya Raghunathji was
assigned the specific duty of taking notes of all Baba’s talks that time.

So this type of program was going on during that historic tour because
after all this was Baba’s usual way. Means not just on this tour but
throughout His life wherever Baba lived and wherever He visited always He
told all the histories, stories, tales, factual analysis and so many things
about the surrounding area wherever He was. And these things Baba told to
the local Margiis and attending Acaryas– whoever was present. When living
in Jamalpur, when touring Berlin Sector, when touring the Philippines,
indeed all the time this was happening. So naturally also then on His grand
1984 tour of Hindi speaking areas Baba gave countless talks about the
history and archeology of that area.

And as I say on His tour Baba visited hundreds of archeological buildings that
were hundreds and even thousands of years old. Places that had a rich
history of deep archeological importance such as temples, tombs, mosques,
forts, monuments, historical buildings, etc. And Baba revealed a huge,
never-before-known history during His tour which was noted down.

THE TRAGEDY

But the tragedy is that all those charming tales and hidden facts which
Baba graciously revealed, all those things never got printed in Baba’s
name. Never.

In contrast though, in the Prout books so many talks given on field walks
related with Bengalistan have been added after 1990. So why did Bangalistan
get the upper hand while all the talks from Baba’s tour of Hindi speaking
areas get completely neglected. Why didn’t the Hindi area historical
research and Baba’s other direct guidelines, why didn’t those get placed in
book form in the name of Baba.

Because after all, on this long 1984 tour of 4 months penance, thousands and
thousands of pages worth of Baba’s valuable teaching was given. Yet somehow
it was deliberately left off the shelf of Baba’s library.

SPECIAL TWIST

Here then is the missing link: the answer why all those talks of Baba never
got printed in His name.

For that historic 1984 tour, Baba gave the duty to Ac Raghunathji to
collect and manage the note-taking and publication of those talks. So Ac
Raghunathji organised all the talks given by Baba during the tour. This he
did from 1984 up to 1993 and in his own way Ac Raghunathji was trying to
get the Publications Department to print these things.

But B group Kingpin Dada Sarvatmanandaji pushed back the work. No doubt
Dada Sarvatmanandaji did not cancel the project completely. Means he did
not throw it into the river like some crude dictatorial madman. Dada
Sarvatmanandaji is more crafty than that. Instead, he added one of his
patented devious twists to the situation. Dada Sarvatmanandaji demanded
that the book should come, BUT in the name of Ac Raghunathji– not Baba.

WHY THE TWIST

So that was the nasty point. Reason being Dada Sarvatmanandaji wanted to
undermine those things. Means he did not want to highlight anything other
than Bengali culture so all Baba’s talks about Hindi speaking areas, he
wanted to push them down into the mud. And what better way to effectively
do this than to take away Baba’s name from those discourses and instead
assign them to someone else– like Raghunathji.

Because whatever words come from Sadguru Baba, those words are treated as
divine. Nobody can compare with BABA. So by manipulating the situation and
instead crediting Ac Raghunathji and not Baba for giving all those talks,
that was one way of undermining Baba’s words about those Hindi speaking
samaj areas. And that is exactly what Dada Sarvatmanandji wanted to do. To
crush the existence and push down the validity of Hindi speaking areas. And
in fact he did like that.

Because the book of history did in fact get printed in Acarya Raghunathji’s
name and still today it remains like that. About this book more I will tell
below.

THE LATE RAGHUNATHJI’S POSITION

First though, with regards to Acarya Raghunathji, all we can say is that
his position was like one bootlicker that time. That was why he did not
adequately oppose Dada Sarvatmanandaji’s fraudulent scheme. And in the end
Ac Raghunathji actually thought that this was alright. Because after all
the book was put in his name and that way he got the credit and respect for
that. So that was the late Ac Raghunathji’s way in all of this, and even when
he was organisational president still he did not come forward to correct
this thing. That is the proof that he approves of the whole situation.

THEY ARE 100% BABA DISCOURSES

PROMOTED IN SOMEONE ELSE’S NAME

But truly speaking those are all Baba’s direct talks. And anyone who is at
all familiar with Baba’s style of discourse will easily understand that all
those words belong to our Revered Baba, and not to Ac Raghunathji. So it
is a terrible wrongdoing that the book was done in a different way. It got
titled as ‘P.R. Sarkar on History’ and the author’s name is there in bold
print: Acarya Raghunath. That is the tragedy.

Because in this way, who can understand that this is actually Baba’s book?
Nobody. Because the title of the book itself makes it look like Ac
Raghunathji is writing about Shrii Sarkar’s ideas on history. When in
actuality those are all Baba’s discourses.

Altogether Dada Sarvatmanandaji has created a big mess in Baba’s scripture in
order to prove Bengali superiority. And all along the present B group
spokesman Dada Kalyaneshvarananda was aware about the adulterations and
distortions being done go Baba’s sacred discourses yet all the while he
kept mum– and just allowed that injustice to pass before his eyes.

OUR DUTY

Now it is the duty of one and all to put forth the demand that all Baba’s
discourses should be published in His own name and be included as part of
AM scripture.

Namaskar,
Mohini

Note 1: DADAJI KNEW IT WAS A DISTORTION

The discourses Baba gave during His 1984 never got printed in
Baba’s own books. Instead Baba’s discourses got published under Ac.
Raghunathji name in his book titled ‘Shri P.R. Sarkar on History’ by Ac.
Raghunathji. This entire email tells more facts and figures about this
wrongdoing, but here following B group spokesman exposes his own position
that since long he was aware about the distortion done to Baba’s discourses
but never did he do anything to correct the matter.

B group spokesman Dada Kalyaneshvarananda once wrote:

“‘In His 1984 tour, he (Baba) spoke about different places and Raghunathjii
noted it down and was later published [in Ac Raghunathjii’s own history
book] as “Shri P.R. Sarkar on History.”

== NY NEWS: CAME BACK TO HAUNT ==

Namaskar,
It has been four years since one group changed the NY sector by-laws in
their own favour, and today their actions have come back to haunt them.
They are being bitten by their own deeds, yet hoping that the rest of
the sector will bail them out. All the details are clearly outlined below.

BABA’S TEACHING ON UNITY

As we know, Baba’s guidelines on unity are sublime. Unity means rallying
around a common spiritual ideology and Goal.

Baba says, “Human unity is purely an ideological unity, which means
unity in the psychic sphere. Where there is psychic unity, physical
unity will also occur. In the realm of unity, unity is always psychic
ideological unity means unity in the subtlest level of the mind.” (Talks
on Prout)

Our definition of unity then is moving together toward the Supreme, not
any worldly or selfish outcome like post, power and prestige. That is
what our samgacchadhvam chant is all about: Uniting our minds for the
great cause, not any small-minded pursuit.

So unity in AM is a high endeavour.

RECAPTURING THE SPIRIT IN AM

Unfortunately, these days in AM, the word unity itself has become
misused or misunderstood as all the groups try to rally adherents in the
name of unity and one group even tried to call themselves as such.

As Ananda Margiis it is our duty to once again ignite the spirit of real
unity in our Marga. No group interest should be served, only we are to
do according to His wish.

To that end, we should clearly understand what is happening now in NY
sector, as it is a mere microcosm of what will invariably unfold
wherever groupism is in vogue.

WHAT IS GOING DOWN IN NY SECTOR

See here what is happening in NY sector. In a nutshell let’s review a bit.

Four years ago, in the early monthly of 2006, one Dada and his group X
captured the hearts and minds of some of the senior margiis in NY
sector. In order to keep his power, that Dada convinced margiis to
change the by-laws of NY sector. Why? Because group Z who was
controlling Centre wanted to appoint a new SS. But the leader of group X
did not want this to happen. He wanted the power for himself. By
offering top posts and prestige to certain senior margiis, this Dada and
his newly made subordinates (i.e. Board of Directors) changed the
by-laws of NY sector to state that group Z could not appoint a new SS
without the clear approval of the NY Board of Directors. That was the
way things were distorted.

Time passed like this. Now, see what is going on…

In Feb 2010, group Z had enough and hired a legal team to take action
against group X and the Board of Directors of NY. The legal team sent a
letter informing the group X and his Board of Directors that they are no
longer the legal managers of AMPS in NY sector and that they had to
relinquish all AM assets etc, including their cherished posts.

Today, in Mar 2010, the Dada leading group X and his Board of Directors
find themselves in a jam. They tried to negotiate themselves out of
trouble, but it did not work. Now they have no choice but to fight back
in the courts, which is both a time consuming and costly affair. So they
have written a letter appealing to NY margiis to help out.

Of course, in this tainted era, no group is pure – neither X nor Z.

But it is ironic, that all along the lead Dada of group X and his Board
of Directors acted unilaterally to control NY sector by distorting the
established by-laws etc, and now that they are in trouble of losing
their grip (as well as a pile of money) they are appealing to the mass
of margiis, whom they’ve been treating all along as second class citizens.

Now see here what the margiis have to say about this.

MARGIIS ARE COMING FORWARD

At minimum, two brave and clear-thinking margiis sisters (one in NYC and
one in Los Altos, CA) have come forward and made a dharmic stand.

The sister in NYC has outlined a number of points of concern about the
way things have been been going in NY sector the last few years. Here is
what she says:

“There is no excuse from SO that margiis are not sent this information”

“As a Margii and the rest of us, we have the right to know information
about any issue concerning Ananda Marga from the existing Ananda Marga Inc.”

“How can we truly accept the legality of Ananda Marga Inc Board of
Directors when a portion of the original By Laws was changed without informing,
consulting the General Body of Ananda Marga that itself is illegal.”

“The Tenure of Board of Directors must be clear…The General Body must be
able to select / elect their officers, board of directors ETC. and there
must be an official communication…given to all members of the General
Body.”

“This periodical communication should give accurate report of what is
going on…”

“Now that there is a lawsuit, WHY is it that only now the Names of the
Board of Directors appear in our Screen reaching out for help to handle this lawsuit
and LAWSUIT was never officially communicated to ALL by mail or in person
thru a meeting with the local unit.”

“Is it not hypocritical?”

That was the pointed letter from one margii in NYC.

In addition, the margii sister from Los Altos (who was one of the first
to publicly break the story) has given some excellent points. One of the
main themes in her letter is that of moral responsbility by those Board
Members. See here what this margii sister has written.

“I feel strongly that the Board of NYS should shoulder the financial
costs of their legal case since it involves them specifically and does
not in any way help the sector nor benefit general Margiis. All the
members of the Board are well able to pay their legal costs and BE
RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT THEY HAVE CREATED. Let Margiis and simple WTs
continue to do their missionary work and support their local units. I
hope the Board of Directors do not have plans to have the Margiis pay
for their own power games. I consider such, along with that credit card
for dharma pracar I keep seeing advertised, exploitation.”

By their expression it is quite clear that the mood in NY sector is not
to support any group in their contest or slug-fest for power.

Others have also come forward in this respect.

The margiis want to see the ideological expression of Ananda Marga, not
the crowing of power of any group through the US court system.

Now it is quite apparent how the selfish misdeeds of group X and their
Board of Directors has come back to haunt them. They distorted the legal
foundation of AMPS in NY sector to gain power, and now that same legal
system has come back to bite them.

THE WAY TO COMBAT GROUPISM

Here the main ideological point and Baba’s divine teaching is that we
should never tolerate division. Group X broke away from group Z to
capture NY sector. No doubt group Z is unjust, but breaking away is not
the answer. That is a common ailment that plagues humanity.

Baba says, “As a result [of the dogma of groupism], one human society is
divided into different nations, and one nation is divided into different
religions; religions also have different castes, and caste also have
different sub-castes – what kind of situation is this? We have only
learned how to divide and subdivide humanity, and we never learned how
to unite the people. This is all due to the defective teachings of
dogmas.” (AFPS-9)

Then what is to be done. When group Z is in power and if group Z is
abusing that power, then a consciousness raising movement must happen
within the Marga about the injustices and exploitation done by group Z.
And then mass psychic pressure must be applied to group Z until they
reform their ways or leave.

That is our avenue for fighting groupism and exploitation – applying
pressure on the wrongdoers, not creating a parallel group.

Once a second group is formed that only compounds the problem and sets
the tone for more and more groups to be created. And that is what we see
happening today in AMPS. However picking up all the pieces of all these
factions is not so easy. Putting the parts back together is a difficult
job. That is why the main strategy is to keep the organisation whole and
correct the wrongs – not jump ship and create yet another faction.

Unfortunately, that is what group X did as well as so many other
factions. That only worsens matters. But they do this because it appeals
to their selfish interest. They want power and it is easy to grab the
power by creating a separate club or group and appointing oneself as the
leader etc. Their whole entire outlook is based on material lust and
control. They think they will live on this earth forever and the crowing
glory is to rule the roost. This is their manner – but it will never
bring unity, just groupist strife.

Hence an entirely new mind-set is needed. One must think, “My life is
short, I have come on this earth only for a short while. I do not want
any post or power, just I want to serve Baba and His creation and spread
His ideals.”

When one thinks in this way, then they will never tolerate any
exploitation nor will they rush to grab the chair either. They will
establish His teachings within the organisation and beyond and bring
unity amongst all beings. This is Baba’s divine guideline and this is
our way.

The whole episode in NY sector is moving in a faulty direction because
all parties involved are just interested in power and post. Their fight
has nothing to do with ideology. Their concern is not the right printing
of Baba’s discourses, nor margii rights nor proper BP elections nor the
elimination of Fake Ananda Vaniis. These factions are only in it for
their own power. That was what led group X to change the by-laws and
that is why their wrongdoing from 4 years ago has now come back to haunt
them.

BABA’S BLESSING

By Baba’s grace, He has blessed us with all the teachings to resolve the
current problems. All we need to do is follow His guidelines – nothing
more. Unfortunately, when various groups chase after the post at any and
all cost, then unity is but a dream. Knowing this, we should all take
concerted efforts to reform the ways of all groupists and bring about
that era of peace and happiness into our Marga.

Baba says, “However, psychic or ideological unity may be affected if we
encourage the exploitation of one group by another. So to avoid this
there should not be any scope for exploitation in society. And to ensure
this we have to start a new order to safeguard the interests of the
exploited masses. So for a proper social synthesis what we require is a
common philosophy of life; that is, ideological unity.” (PNS-15)

Namaskar,
Prakash

Note 1: WHO IS GROUP X AND WHO IS GROUP Z

In the above letter, group X is the EC faction led by Tiirthananda and
his chosen Board of Directors and group Z is the Rudrananda/Nigamananda
faction and their selected NY SS, Vimalananda.

One thing should also be noted. For years and years, Tiirthananda and EC
were the right hand cadre of Rudrananda as they thought this would bring
them post and power. When it did not yield them any fruit, they split up
and went on their own.

So their fight is just based on selfishness, not universal welfare or
ideological unity.

One noted group not mentioned in this letter is the Tiljala faction.
Suffice to say here that they too have their stated agenda but they
could not capture or compete for power in NY sector.

Note 2: WHO ARE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Here is the list of EC’s Board of Directors of Ananda Marga, Inc. (NY
Sector). It is these people are who in danger of losing their shirt in
NY sector so all of a sudden they are appealing to others for help, when
all along they have been quite aloof all these years.

Ac. Tiirthananda Avt.
Ac. Rainjitananda Avt.
Ac. Vedaprajinananda Avt.

Note 3: RELATED LETTER FROM FOUR YEARS AGO

These letters were posted four years ago when it became known that some
in NY sector had distorted the by-laws. This is the history of what took
place.

Health Guideline

Baba says, “In order to digest starches and carbohydrates, the saliva of
the mouth must help at the preliminary stage. Chewing food brings an
adequate quantity of saliva into the mouth. No sooner does the food
mixed with saliva enter the stomach than the liver and the pancreas are
enabled to start secreting their bile and digestive fluids. So unless
food is chewed well, the liver can never function properly.” (YT, p.1)

Note: In the fast-paced life of this 21st century, people no longer give
themselves proper time to attend to their basic life duties, such as
eating food. Instead people just rush off from one appointment to
another and “grab a bite to eat” along the way at any number of
drive-thru, fast-food places. In their hectic pace, instead of chewing
their food they just inhale their meal, nearly swallowing it whole. But
this way of “eating” is terribly hazardous to the health and invites
many diseases. As Ananda Margiis we should spread Baba’s above teaching
to the members of the general society so that they may be benefited.

Baba

“E kii prahelika’ e kii kuhelika’…” P.S. 1769

Purport:

Baba, what is this liila You are making, what is this dilemma. O’ my
Lord, I know that You are everywhere, but even then my heart is dry.
I am surrounded with frustration– by this fog of hopelessness. No doubt,
You are remaining with me, but You did not allow me hold You. Even then,
by Your grace, his much I do know– that You love me. Just I do not feel
that in my heart at present. Baba, Your divine effulgence is lost in the
oblivion. The resonating melody of the viina is filled with the tears of
my life. Baba, please come in my life and remove all my bondages. Please
remove all my blackness, impurities, and dogma, whatever I have. Baba I
love You. And this much I also know– That you also love me. O’ my Lord,
please look towards me. I have offered my everything at Your lotus feet.
Please do not leave me remaining crying in darkness. Baba, please come
in my heart, in my mind, with Your sweet smile. Baba, only You are my
shelter…

== A’NANDA MA’RGA AMAR HAI ==

Namaskar,
In this trying, if not difficult, period in our Ananda Marga history,
some may be wondering how AM is even going to survive. There is groupism
and infighting on every corner, dogmas have been imposed left and right,
and so much nonsense is going on. In that view, some may be
contemplating, ‘Where is the daylight, how is our Marga ever going to
make it– it just does not seem possible’. These murky thoughts might
enter the mind.

However, we should be fully assured that our path of Ananda Marga is
immortal and it is going to flourish on this planet and across the
universe, wherever humans go. Because AM satisfies human dharma. That is
Baba’s special formula, as well as the hidden reason why our Marga will
not only survive, but verily thrive.

THE SPECIAL RECIPE

As we know from sutra 2-5 of Ananda Sutram, within each human being is
the thirst for limitlessness. Everyone is eager and hungry to find
eternal happiness & peace. To that end, humans do so many things and run
after so many crude enjoyments: Money, materialism, sex, power, etc. All
done in order to find happiness. But just because they are temporarily
involved in those things does not mean they are truly satisfied.

Rather, they are just like small babies who are hungry– teething and
chewing on anything they can find: Sticks, plastic, cardboard, etc. But
that baby will not be satisfied until it gets mother’s milk.

Likewise, humans are involved in various material pleasures only because
they have yet to find something better. And still they are searching,
refining their ways. Proof being that now, around the globe, so many
have joined up in various styles of yoga and other healthy ways of
living. People are flocking in this direction and improving themselves.
They are on the move. But even that will not entirely quench their
thirst, because only Ananda Marga is the path of eternal bliss. So their
quest or search will not stop until they find themselves on the path of AM.

Hence Baba’s special formula is the ultimate combination: He has
instilled within human beings an infinite desire and He has given the
path of AM to satiate that innate human yearning for eternal happiness.
Thus each and every human being is on a pre-programmed search to try and
find the path of bliss, Ananda Marga. There is no other destiny.

GREAT PROGRESS BEING MADE IN AMPS

Now that we are confirmed that every living being has an inborn urge to
find AM, the path of bliss, let’s redirect our attention to the current
scene within AMPS. How is it that we can feel assured that our AMPS will
be able to show the path of AM to all who come.

Before 1990, our Marga was in a phase of tremendous speed. In a few
decades, Baba unveiled the plan and programs for the entire future of
humanity. No teaching or secret was left untold. He has given everything.

From Master Units to Microvita, each and every day brought a new
revolutionary idea or concept as well as a new plan for our Marga to
implement– then and there, at that moment. Our Marga was moving at
cosmic speed. That was the need of the day in that pre- 1990 period.

As human beings though, we could not keep up. Here’s the proof: Those
days we were busy printing and preaching the gospel of our AM books like
‘Neo-humanism: Liberation of Intellect’, and then just a few years later
our entire Marga was sunk in groupism, not floating in neo-humanism.

Why? Because in that pre-1990 period, we could not digest all of Baba’s
teachings, like neo-humanism. It was a period of speed to roll out more
and more new works, all done at a pace faster than the human mind could
assimilate everything.

It is just like if someone goes to the university bookstore and
purchases all the needed books to get a PhD in quantum physics. Buying
those books alone does not make automatically worthy or qualified to
have a doctorate degree. Rather it will take years and years of study
assimilate the requisite knowledge to earn that PhD.

Same then is the case with our Ananda Marga. Just because some Dadas
were taking dictation about AM ideals does mean they were established
sadvipras. Rather it takes time to instill all those ideas within one’s
being.

GREAT PROGRESS BEING MADE IN AMPS- Part 2

In our period of speed prior to 1990, it was extremely rare for anyone
to be able to assimilate the real essence of what Baba was saying and
doing. And there are so many proofs of this.

Baba was telling that He was that eternal entity yet then some Dadas
created the dogmatic Mahaprayan function saying that Baba is gone. In
that case who can claim that those Dadas really understood that Baba is
infinite and timeless.

And that is the case with so many things. Our acaryas are meant to be
sadvipras yet so many of them are involved in tragic, scandalous affairs.
Plus Baba has given Prout, yet some in our Marga are selling our MU
lands in order to make a personal profit. In various directions,
countless nonsense things are going on: All of which points in the
direction that in the period of tremendous speed up till 1990, we could
not assimilate all of Baba’s teachings.

Rather our Marga was more involved in propagating Baba’s miracles– but
that alone is not enough. The world and its religions are already full
of tales of miracles, so people are not enticed by that. Whereas the
world is totally bereft of a rational philosophy. Hence, the need of the
day is for us to understand and emulate Baba’s teachings, then everyone
will come running in our direction. But up until 1990 it was not
possible for us to do so.

Again then we come to the point, ‘OK then where is the optimism’, where
is the proof that our Marga is moving ahead, in the right direction.

GREAT PROGRESS BEING MADE IN AMPS- Part 3

Since 1990, our Marga has been in a period of pause. The phase of speed
finished. So since 1990 the learning or the assimilation of AM ideology
has been going on– successfully so.

Prior to 1990, we had no real idea of what groupism was nor did we know
the harm it could do. But now we know, and verily we are step by step
pulling our Marga out of the mire of groupism. We are all studying and
doing sadhana in order to rise above any groupist sentiment.

And this is the case with so many aspects of Ananda Marga ideology. We
are learning what it means to have the eternal Brahma as the Guru, that
is why so many have left the dogma of Mahaprayan. And indeed so many
dogmas have been left behind: Tiirthas, memorials, false printing of
Baba’s books, and so many things.

In short, everyone in AM is now learning AM ideology. Because now–
since 1990– we have had the time to think, reflect, and experiment. So
it is that with each and every passing day we better adhere to Baba’s
teachings and spread His ideals via our conduct, discussions, and
actions. Everything is getting better– that is, our Marga is righting
itself on the path of ideology.

EVERYTHING POINTING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

Thus, it is all going extremely well. Already Baba has instilled within
everyone the inherent & infinite desire to become great, i.e. to
experience eternal peace. Plus, He has given the path of AM, which is
the only real avenue for experiencing infinite bliss. And furthermore,
He has put our Marga in a period of pause, so we may best assimilate and
understand His teachings. For all these reasons, we can sincerely know,
‘Ananda Marga Amar Hai’, Ananda Marga is immortal.

We are now no longer thinking that just because we came into AM that we
are therefore sadvipras. That is how it was prior to 90. Dadas and
others thought that simply because they were in AM, then therefore they
had the birthright to rule the world. Hence the building of the Prout
Palace to entertain the world’s leaders. Those days, Dadas were just
waiting for their coronation as Kings of this earth.

But now that silly dream is over. Now everyone understands that being in
AM means that we must personify Baba’s teachings in thought, word, and
deed. So everyone is studying, learning, and competing to be better
informed about our AM way of life.

That is what the period of pause is all about and that is what has been
going on since 1990. Hence it is with each and every passing day that we
are coming more in line with our AM ideology.

And by this way humans will carry Baba’s teachings of Ananda Marga
forever and ever.

That is why there is a grand feeling of optimism percolating within our
Marga. Not all our problems are solved yet, but one by one they are
being eliminated as we hold onto and implement Baba’s teachings, by His
grace.

BABA’S BLESSING

By Baba’s grace the whole situation is complete. Human beings have
infinite desires; only AM is that path of eternal bliss that can quench
the human thirst to achieve limitlessness. And, in this period of pause,
we are all becoming the worthy media for bringing AM teachings to the
world.

Baba says, “This speed and pause will continue. Pause means the
gathering of momentum for speed in the subsequent phase. If one closely
watches the effect of speed on a particular community or the entire
humanity, one sees that generally people eulogize the period of speed.
However, we cannot afford to ignore the state of pause, because by
judging what the previous state of pause was like, we can discern the
speed of the next phase.”

“There are some people who are pessimistic. They say that the society
around us is very bleak, that it has no expression of vitality and that
it seems that everyone is in a deep slumber. Pessimists say this because
they have never made any detailed study of human history, nor do they
care to. Had they done so, they would certainly be optimistic, because
if they had looked carefully at the symptoms of pause, they would have
realized that significant preparations were being made for the
subsequent phase of speed. So under no circumstances should human beings
be pessimistic. That is why I am always an incorrigible optimist,
because I know that optimism is life.” (AFPS_3)

Namaskar,
Arisudan

Note: WHY THE RELIGIONS CANNOT SATISFY HUMAN THIRST

The religions have a sense of god-hood, which is why they still have
followers. Because human beings are not inclined to become atheistic.
But the diminished feeling of god-hood that the religions convey is not
enough to keep their followers. Because people want more than dogma in
their life. They want to realise something Great and be guided by a
flawless philosophy based on rationality. Hence, none of the dogmatic
religions can keep their followers forever. Over time, all will come
into AM.

UNKNOWN FACT ABOUT WEALTH

Parama Purusa BABA says, “In the subtle economic sense, the value of
wealth is the real wealth. Wealth, if not properly defined, may mean
only riches. But the value of wealth is to be measured in terms of its
capacity to purchase commodities. That is, the purchasing capacity of
wealth is its real value. This real value of wealth has not yet been
properly understood in numerical terms by economists.” (Proutist
Economics, p. 269)

Baba

“Pradiip shala’ka’ jvele cali eka’, se priyo to mor elo na’…” ( P.S. 4794)

Purport:

Alone sitting in isolation I lit the lamp. I was waiting and wondering
why my Dearmost has not come. I wanted to have a glance of Him, to lay my
eyes on Him. But neither did He come nor did He look towards me.

Sitting in dhyan, in my mind I prepared and decorated a seat for Him; I
was waiting and waiting for Him. But in dhyan I was just asking Him for
boons– to fulfill my worldly desires. I did not want to have Him. Rather I
wanted worldly things– boons etc. I did not ask for those things which are
divine and eternal. Instead I asked for perishable, decaying, material
things– those which are under the bondage of time, space, and person. So
instead of longing for Him, I asked Him for boon after boon. In my
misguided dhyan all these crude types desires I had.

So all that went in vain because my Dearmost did not come. In dhyan when
I was folding His seat and putting it away, then I thought that without
pure devotion then nothing is going to happen; I cannot get Him. What I did
in dhyan was just a waste of time. Everything went in vain. I gave more
importance to worldly things in comparison to devotion and I went on asking
for parabhakti from Him. That too went in vain.

Sitting alone I lit the lamp and waited, but my dear most did not come…

== IMPORTANT EXAMPLE TO KNOW ==

Namaskar,
More and more of our senior workers are moving on. They are rising in
their years and after all the body is but a temporary housing for the
mind. Our duty then is to remember all with respect and reverence
and learn from their example.

HOW TO EVALUATE ONE’S STANDARD

“I had established an ashram at the foot of the Himalayas…in Dehradun
District of UP.” One of the senior-most avadhutas wrote this in his
own book, describing about the time when he left AMPS to establish his own
ashram.

We all know that in general society, people’s quality, qualifications and
attributions are measured on the grounds of various superficial variables.

But according to Baba’s Neohumanistic philosophy, character, dealing,
behavior, conduct are one’s true qualifications. Baba says such
things everywhere in His countless discourses. Here below is one
significant example from our holy Ananda Vanii.

Baba says, “Your ideal is represented by your conduct. Your learning, your
social or economic status have nothing to do with your ideal.” (Ananda Vanii #13)

In the above Ananda Vanii, Baba’s message is quite clear. Without ambiguity we
Ananda Margiis are to evaluate others – and oneself -on the point of
one’s character and conduct. Not on the point of money, power, avadhuta dress,
purodhaship, kapalik sadhana, vishesha yoga, age, seniority, and Central
Committee, Acarya board and Purodha board, or even post of Purodha Pramukha.

So according to Baba’s above teaching we should evaluate the calibre of
everyone by their conduct only. Other so-called qualifications as expressed
are valueless.

So to evaluate the quality and qualifications of this senior avadhuta,
the late respected Dada Samanvayanandaji, we should discuss on the point of conduct.
Specifically, how far did Dada Samanvayanandaji’s conduct go in accordance with Baba’s
teaching.

GURU-DISCIPLE RELATION

In Tantra, the Guru-disciple relation is the most significant thing. That
is why Baba has made various rules and given in Caryacarya about the
services to Guru.

We Ananda Margiis always do Guru Puja, minimum two times a day, every day.
And we know “Guru Brahma…”, the whole idea behind this is that Guru is
everything. And that any disciple of Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji must have
this basic characteristic that they should believe in Guru, not betray. One
must not betray Guru, otherwise everything is gone.

Here in India, Margis are fully aware about the history of Dada
Samanvayanandji. But our overseas Margis may not be aware so for clarity,
the basic matters are described here below.

DADAJI’S STORY

Dada Samanvayanandaji’s previous name was Ac. Shivananda Avt. And in 1972
when Baba went into jail, Dadaji lobbied against Baba and got failure.

That means Dada Samanvayanandaji a.k.a. Dada Shivananda left the organisation
and in challenging way he created his own organization, giving it the name
“Prema Marga”. And Dadaji established his office in Dehradun that time.

After that time, Dada Samanvayanandaji never expressed repentance or
remorse for what happened in those days.

Instead Dada Samanvayanandaji shamelessly glorified in his book that betrayal to
Baba was not unjust, rather that betrayal was proper. He created his own book
‘Glories of …’. And in that book he mentioned many times about his great
work in Dehradun. Means that time when he went against Guru and made that
separate organization known as Prema Marg and was challenging to AM,
about all this Dadaji says that this was his “great” work.

We should not forget that in those days, Baba was in jail. It was during
those difficult days for AM when all support was needed, that Dada
Samanvayanandaji left and created his own organization to compete against AM.

Yet in his book Dada Samanvayanandaji writes on page 57. Please read below.
Dada Samanvayanandaji writes:

“I had established an ashram at the foot of the Himalayas…in Dehradun
District of UP.”

So see Dada Samanvayanandaji did not have repentance for his betrayal to
Baba. And even after the publishing of his book he did not express any
remorse. Not a word of repentance did he express for those black days in
which Dada Samanvayananda left Baba and created his own organization.

In simple language this is betrayal to Baba and also back-stabbing. So
we should not hold his example in some divine manner and others should
not emulate Dadaji’s approach. Now when groupism is rattling our
organisation, this is not the time to depart and plant one’s flag of
glory elsewhere.

DADAJI’S STORY (CONT)

When Guru is in jail then true margiis took lot of trouble and suffering in
various ways and also got imprisonment. I have deep respect for them. But
what respect should one have when Dada Samanvayanandaji betrayed Baba and
left Him during that very crucial time when Baba was in jail. And when
Baba was released then Dada Samanvayanandaji painted his own black face
with white oil paint and appeared before Margis in the beginning of 1983 as a
great saint as if nobody knows about his hypocrisy and betrayal to Baba.

When Baba was in jail Margiis were suffering also in jail, and Dada
Samanvayanandaji was enjoying his own self-created guru-ship, and
establishing one organization. And when the good days of AM came, then Dadaji
returned back because his fake guruship of Prema Marga was not as
beneficial / enticing as befooling Margiis. What a hypocrisy.

And then after ’90 he jumped into a very high post. Who will
appreciate his hypocritical behavior. I don’t think that any true Margii
and WT will appreciate.

As a brother we certainly love him, but his is not an example to follow.

In his later years one ruling group made Dada Samanvayanandaji their priest;
and Dada Samanvayanandaji moved all around the globe giving his sermons
like the Pope of Rome. And he praised himself his so-called illustrious past.

MUST NOT APPRECIATE HYPOCRITES

About hypocritical people Baba’s guideline is very strong. Please read
below.

Baba says “Hypocrites must not be tolerated.”

We must follow Baba’s command on this point. What Baba says in Caryacarya
we must follow.

Baba says “Hypocrites are those who betray.” “Don’t forgive till his
nature is reformed. Immediate forgiveness is a special weakness of mind. It
results in worse harm to society.” (CC-2)

Everybody in this universe can forget Dada’s back stabbing to Marga
ideology. But true Margiis and Wt’s cannot.

And not forgetting means, not following Dada’s negative example. No matter
the circumstances one must stand with Guru and not drift away seeking
glory elsewhere. Yet that is what Dadaji did.

As a brother we love him, yet as an acarya and disciple, his example is
nothing but a stain and none fall into a similar demise. That is the
learning we should take from his life on this earth: What not to do.

BABA’S BLESSING

Here following is Baba’s divine guideline for building up one human society.

Baba says, “You must think, ‘I will personally move towards the supreme
desideratum, and at the same time I will try to assist those who are
suffering from despair, those steeped in blind superstition…Our family is
universal; our abode is also universal’.” (SS-18, p. 41)

Namaskar,
Shantatma

Note 1: SEE WITH PROPER EYES

In general society, people’s quality, qualifications and attributions are
measured on the grounds of superficial and often, crude, measures.

(a) Just like for example in present Indian Politics, brutality and
hypocrisy is the criteria for good Indian leaders at present. And in the
past it was not like that. But hypocrisy was there no doubt. But now
criminal behaviour is the top-most qualification. This is a dogma.

(b) And in general religious Indian psychology saffron robe has a lot of
meaning. It gives deep respect. There is a religious teaching that “Don’t
see the merit and demerit of the person who is wearing saffron dress. Must
think that person is great. You are not doing pranam to that person.
Whoever is using that dress they are God’s representative. Don’t see about
their character and behaviour.” But all Margis know that this is one dogma.

(c) And in general Indian society, in the religious sense, age is also one of
the factors. White hair, white beard, wrinkled skin is one qualification.
Even if that person is a hypocrite. –This is also dogma.

(d) And in general capitalist society money is the criteria to measure
someone. In town if you ask “who is most important” the answer will be that
person who is the richest. –So money is the qualification. And this is
also dogma.

But in AM all these above characteristics have no value. As they are all
crude or superficial parameters that have nothing to do with the person’s
behaviour and conduct.

Note 2: ONE FURTHER POINT

Here is one further point about which Dada Samanvayanandji wrote in his
book. It regards the matter of certain instructions Dada Samanvayanandji
himself dogmatically created, telling that if these are followed one will
achieve liberation.

Ac. Samanvayanandaji wrote in his book Ananda Satakam on p.131 last
para “Bhagavat….Paraman Padinca…” And, Samanvayandaji Dada explained,
“Those who not only read but follow the instruction noted herein (of Ananda
Satakam) with interest and care, they will surely overcome the delusion of
this world and cross the stormy ocean of living in this world.” (p.131,
Ananda Satakam)

Thus Dadaji guaranteed liberation by following his personal teaching.

A similar type of teaching to what Samanvayanandji preached in this
“sutra”, is also very common teaching in Hindu religion. One famous example
is Hanuman Chalisa. Hanuman Chalisa has been written to impose and inject a
fear complex into the general public mind to worship the god monkey, Hanuman.

To force the public to worship Hanuman monkey god, poet Tulsidaas wrote
“Hanuman Chalisa'” and that same way Samanvayanandaji taught others by
giving a dogmatic teaching like Tulsidas did. It is obvious that if the
dogmatic poet of the Hindu religion would not have injected the fear
complex then surely nobody would have appreciated to worship the monkey.

Human psychology is that humans like to believe or pray that some
human being is their god. Not the monkeys. So it is the power of the
fear complex of that poetry that misguided / forced Hindu people to chant
every day the Hanuman chalisa hymn, means the monkey god eulogy.

So, it is obvious to all that to impose his book, Ananda Satakam, on Margiis’
mind, Dada Samanvayananda did the same technique as the dogmatic Hindu poet
did.

Following is the stanza of that dogmatic monkey god hymm: ‘Jo
satbar…mahasukha hoi’. The meaning is that those who will repeat those
Hanuman Chalisas (eulogy of Hanuman monkey god) will get liberation
and be free from all worldly problems, like money, matter, ghost etc.

So with fear Hindu dogmatic people are repeating this. In the same way our
Dada Samanvayanandaji tried to impose his book Ananda Satakam on Margiis
by creating fear complex. Like the dogmatic poet of Hindu religion did with
the monkey god story.

Baba clearly explains that religions do not follow the path of rationality,
do not follow the path of dharma. Rather they claim to be issuing the word
of God, and with this excuse they inject one after another dogma among
their followers.

Baba says,

“The word “Dharma” is often loosely used for so-called religion. The reason
for this is that when the founders of almost all religions propagated their
respective doctrines to the general mass, they claimed they were the
messages of God. But no religion ever followed the path of logic.” (HS-I,
’87 ed., p.4)

So religions preach all sorts of harmful dogmas under the aegis of their
false claim that they are preaching the word of God.

Certainly, those living in India know very well about the monkey god Hanuman
but for overseas readers let me please tell something more….– the god
Hanuman belongs to the ape family. He has a long tail and his face is like
a monkey. It is not even a human being; Hanuman is one monkey. That is why
one name of the monkey is Hanuman. And Chalisa’ means eulogy. Every Hindu
dogmatic person is well aware of these things but for the benefit of
overseas Margiis it is meaningful to explain the matter in full.

However the main point is that this dogma of the monkey god is deeply
rooted in all fundamental Hindus’ mind. And every day they must repeat this
thing minimum one time and especially when they feel fear of ghost. The
dogma is that by repeating the monkey god name, ghosts will not come and
monkey god worshippers will ultimately reach the goal of liberation and all
desires will be fulfilled. And those who disrespect this will themselves
burn in hell fire. Because of this dogmatic belief, Hindu people are afraid
and they are repeating the Hanuman Chalisa with deep reverence.

So Dada Samanvayanandaji unfortunately also suffered from attachment to
Hindu dogma. Clearly Dada carried this dogma on his head. Because in
the same way as the monkey god hymn, Dadaji created one complex that if any
margii will believe and respect and chant his sloka then surely they will
get liberation as if there is no need of astaunga yoga sadhana. Only his
Ananda Satakam will work as the divine ship to across the ocean of maya.

Our Language

Baba says, “All the languages of the world are our language, this always
you will remember. All the languages are your language. Of them you may
know 2, 4, 10, 20, 200, 500, and all the rest you do not know. That does
not mean that the languages which you do not know are not your language.
All the languages of the world are the language of humanity. All the
languages are the language of Parama Purus’a. For all the languages you
should have love– equal love for all the languages.” (Hindi Language,

Baba

“Toma’ke cena’ na’hi ja’y…” (P.S. 2089)

Purport:

Baba, it is not possible to recognize You. When I think that I have
recognized You, then my consciousness gets completely enveloped by the
Cimmerian darkness.

Baba, Your divine Presence shifts from one extreme to the next. On the
one side You are so tough and other times You are very soft and sweet.
Baba, sometimes You are vehemently sounding Your sermons by the beating of
the marching drum and blowing of the military trumpets; and on other
occasions You are smiling sweetly and showering Your causeless grace with
the flower pollen. Baba, such is Your beauty.

O’ Baba, in the end, in the lonely, isolated moment, I see that
everything happens by Your grace. What You desire that is what happens–
that is the final truth.

O’ Parama Purusa Baba, in Your grand Kingdom, everything belongs to You.
I cannot boast that anything is mine; indeed to think that something is
mine is a crime. Because everything is created by You– this whole
expressed universe is Your mental projection. Then how can I say that
anything is mine.

Baba, only You are mine; everyone is Yours. Baba, everyone longs for
Your karuna’– divine compassion.

Baba, to recognize You is not possible without Your grace. Baba only
with the showering of Your grace can one realise You– otherwise not. Baba
please grace me…

== ITIHA’SA SHOULD BE WRITTEN ==

Namaskar,
All Baba’s discourses should be named in the proper way– according to His
system. No title should mislead or go against the spirit of His teachings.

Here following is a discussion about the naming of one of His historic
discourses. We should consider whether justice has been done to Baba’s
discourse or not.

TYPES OF WRITING

Before getting to the title of the discourse, we should examine Baba’s
guidlines on literature.

We know that there are various types of writing such as kavya, purana,
itikatha, and itihasa etc. And each of these categories has their own
special qualities and distinguishing features.

For example kavyas are known for their beauty, puranas are a type of
mythology, itikatha is a chronology of events or history etc.

Baba says, “Kavya might not be real, but the way of expression is lucid and
beautiful. ‘Vakvam rasatmakam Kavyam’- stories which were narrated in a
graceful language were known as ‘kavya’.” (MHB, p.2)

Baba says, “Purana (mythology). In it the stories told are not real but
have educative value. Therefore it has its value in society. For instance,
the Ramayana is a purana.” (MHB, p.2)

Baba says, “Itikatha is also known as ‘purakatha’, ‘itivrtta’, ‘puravrtta’
etc in Samskrta. It is known as ‘history’ in English.” (MHB, p.3)

So like that in easy to understand, crystal-clear fashion Baba has
clarified the terms kavya, purana, and itikatha for us. And in similar
fashion Baba has done the same with the term itiha’sa. Despite that, one or
two persons remain confused to the extent that such translators are wrongly
titling Baba’s discourses.

THE TRUE MEANING OF ITIHA’SA

Here Baba describes the speciality of the term itiha’sa.

“Iti hasiti ityarthe itiha’sah”

Meaning: “A resplendent reflection of collective life whose study will be
of immense inspiration for future generations. “Iti hasati” literally
means, “glowing example of glorious human dignity.” (PNS-8, p. 24)

And Baba here furthermore is describing the uniqueness of the itihasa term:

Dharma’rtha ka’ma moks’a’rtham
Niiti va’kya samanvitam’
Pura’vrta katha’yuktam’itiha’sah pracaks’ate

Thus in the above shloka Baba guides us that in itiha’sa there a minimum of
seven key ingredients which in totality transcend all the layers of life in
all the directions.

Itihasa has: [1] dharma (psycho-spiritual development), [2] artha (that
which relieves pain), [3] ka’ma (mundane longings), [4] moksa (salvation),
[5] niiti (morality), [6] pura’vrta (facts and records), [7] katha (stories).

All these factors are components of itihasa. Thus itiha’sa is a unique,
diverse, and complete approach for encapsulating the trials and glories of
human existence.

Baba says, “Itiha’sa is that…which a man gets the fruits of caturvarga–
dharma, artha, kama and moks’a– as well as a system of the do’s and don’ts
of niiti.” (MHB, p.3)

ITIHASA HAS NO EQUIVALENT ENGLISH TERM

By this we can understand that itihasa is one unique type of term that has
no English equivalent. Thus Itihasa cannot be translated directly into any
single English word such as ‘history’. And in clear-cut language Baba
reveals this very fact:

Baba says, “Let me tell you at the very outset that the English word
‘history’ and the Sam’skrta word itiha’sa are not synonymous.” (PNS-21, p.1)

Then Baba goes on to explain further that the English word ‘history’
instead means itikatha. Which as we read above is vastly different from the
term itiha’sa.

Baba says, “The chronological record of past events which is called
“history” in English should be called itikatha’&in Sam’skrta.” (PNS-21, p.1)

Baba says, “Itikatha. In English this is known as “history”. Itikatha is a
chronology of events. In itikatha there is simply a collection of different
happenings. In it the author bothers little about the educative value of
the affairs. People at large derive little benefit from knowing the dates
of birth and death of different kings.” (MHB, p.2)

Thus the English term ‘history’ meaning itikatha has nothing to do with
itiha’sa. The term history is comparatively flat and wholly fails to carry
any of the vitality, insight, or dynamism which the term itiha’sa portrays.

Baba says, Itiha’sa is “A resplendent reflection of collective life whose
study will be of immense inspiration for future generations. “Iti hasati”
literally means, “glowing example of glorious human dignity.” (PNS-8, p. 24)

Thus the English term history falls far short of the mark. And it refers to
itikatha’– NOT itiha’sa.

So as huge as these practical and philosphical differences are, even then
top of all Baba’s commanding opinion is there.

Baba says, “Let me tell you at the very outset that the English word
‘history’ and the Sam’skrta word itiha’sa are not synonymous.” (PNS-21, p.1)

Clearly then the term itiha’sa cannot be translated as ‘history’.
Yet certain translators of Baba Prout discourses have swapped out the
itihasa term and replaced it with the English term- history. Here below is
more of the story how this negative affair happened.

BABA’S HISTORIC DISCOURSE

In Patna DMC in January 1980 Baba is giving the discourse and guiding us
that Itiha’sa should be written. The point being that up till now the past
history has been written in such a way where those in power were just
telling about how they themselves were great kings and queens etc. Means in
their own way the leaders of each of the eras — ksattriyan, vipran,
vaeshyan etc– were just selfishly preaching about their own magnificence.

Baba says, “History Books are selected in order to establish the glory of a
particular era. For example, the heroic tales of the chivalry of the
Ksattriyas form the main basis for the writing of the history of the
Ks’attriya era.” (PNS-8, p. 25)

And like that the leaders of all the eras followed this negative trend. So
straight-away Baba rejects this misguided manner of recounting the past.

Baba says, “Unfortunately, the biased history is always written according
to the dictates of the ruling class of different countries. The study of
this biased history is detrimental to society. It should not occur.”
(PNS-8, p.26)

Then Baba guides us that we are to create a full-fledge, colorful picture
of the whole society. One which tells how society developed, how the
problems were solved, and how the people lived. And such type of
comprehensive, honest, educative, and dharmic account is known as Itiha’sa.
Plus about the speciality of Itiha’sa Baba tells the following.

Baba says, Itiha’sa is “that treatise alone which increases human beings’
arena of spiritual awareness and thus renders the intellect more subtle,
which enhances the knowledge of various branches of art and science – such
as literature, fine art, pure science, technology, social science, etc –
and which places human beings on a firm foundation.”(PNS-8, p. 25)

By all it is quite clear that Itihasa itself is a unique approach. And in
that Patna discourse of January 1980 Baba is guiding us about the great
import of Itihasa. And He is telling that Itihasa should be written– not
history.

DISCOURSE TALKS SOMETHING AND HEADING IS SOMETHING ELSE

And by Baba’s grace I was present there in that Patna DMC where Baba is
giving this discourse in Hindi and He is telling that itihasa should be
written. But later on when the book got published then in the English
edition certain translators wrongly put heading of the discourse as ‘Let
History Be Rewritten’ etc.

When the English term ‘history’ has a completely different meaning– one
which is more limited and static in nature. That’s why the word ‘history’
is equated with the Sanskrit word itikatha– not itiha’sa.

Baba says, “Itikatha is also known as ‘history’ in English.” (MHB, p.3)

So unfortunately all this got wrongly translated. Because in the Patna
discourse Baba is revealing the deep significance of itiha’sa. And that
itiha’sa covers all the realms of human existence and that it has no
English equivalent word.

Baba says, “Let me tell you at the very outset that the English word
“history” and the Sam’skrta word itiha’sa are not synonymous.” (PNS-21, p.1)

But even then the translators wrongly titled Baba two discourses about
itiha’sa. And they translated the itiha’sa term itself as ‘history’. In
that way they did a big blunder and gave the misleading title(s): (1) What
History Should Be Like and (2) Let History Be Rewritten.

When in fact Baba clearly guides us that history is not the equivalent of
itihasa.

SOLUTION: FOLLOW BABA’S EXAMPLE

BABA HAS SET THE TREND TO USE SANSKRIT WORDS IN THE TITLE

In numerous discourses Baba has led the way by placing various headings in
the Sanskrit language. Such as the discourse ‘The Glory of Kiirtan’. Here
we do not translate the Sanskrit ‘Kiirtan’ term as devotional chanting etc.
Rather the Kiirtan term is kept in its original Sanskrit as it gives a more
pointed meaning and also because there is not a proper equivalent English
term.

And not just in that example. But there are many, many occasions where Baba
has assigned Sanskrit terms in the English headings of His discourses.
Words such as Sadhana, Ista, Yoga, Diiks’a’, Mantra, Guru, Dharma to name a
few.

And in that way there are English discourses titled as: ‘Guru Puja’ (AV-3),
‘The Importance of Diiks’a’ (DT-2), ‘What is Dharma?’ (APH-1), ‘The Forms
of Sadhana’ (SS-1), ‘Dharma Sadhana’ (AV-31), ‘Satya’ (GHC), ‘Where There
is Dharma There is Ista’ (SS) etc etc.

ITIHASA SHOULD BE WRITTEN…

So when such above listed discourses contain Sanskrit words and those are
not translated into English but are kept in their original Sanskrt and used
in the title. And when Baba Himself has set this trend. Then, in the same
way, the discourse at hand should be titled as ‘Let History Be Rewritten’ .

… BUT INSTEAD THE TERM BABA REJECTS WAS PUT IN THE TITLE

Because here Baba is opening new Vistas by introducing the term itihasa and
demonstrating how it is different from the English term ‘history’. Thus
when the translators use that very term– i.e. history– which Baba has
rejected and they are using the history term in the title of the discourse.

Then that is misleading. Since in that very discourse itself and in
numerous other discourses Baba goes to great lengths to differentiate the
two terms– history and itihasa. Means on multiple occasions Baba has
objected to the use of the English term ‘history’ in place of Itiha’sa.
And in that way, by this mistranslation, these precious discourses have
lost their charm. Means they became tainted.

So the titles of all such discourses should be corrected. Because Guru’s
teaching is divine and it should not be altered or placed in the wrong way
such that it misguides the readers.

Here it should also be added that not just in the title but throughout
these two discourses the translators have splattered the word ‘history’
such that not just the title but indeed the entire discourse is outright
misleading. Thus it gives the reader a convoluted and wrong understanding
of Baba’s discourse.

So those who do not have the capacity to do translation work should give up
the job. They should not ruin Baba’s divine gifts and mislead others.

MOVING TOWARDS A BRIGHT FUTURE

Baba guides us that by studying the past and present according to the
dharmic guidelines of itiha’sa– “people will gain inspiration and derive
great strength to move ahead.” (PNS-8, p. 28)

Namaskar,
Seshagiri

Note 1: Up till now, the itiha’sa term has been commonly used in India; but
in the name of Itiha’sa all people do is write traditional history. Because
they mostly just translate overseas history books and then categorize or
label them as itiha’sa. So this is not proper. For this reason when
speaking to the audience in Patna, Baba guides us that Itiha’sa should be
written.

Note 2: The English version of these two discourses are printed in Prout
Nutshell part 8. So anyone can review this whole matter by consulting that
Prout-8 book which contains the discourses, ‘Let History Be Rewritten’ &
‘What History Should Be Like’. Plus the first discourse of Prout 21 titled
‘History and Superstition’ and the first chapter of the book ‘Discourses of
the Mahabharata’ are also good resources for this entire topic of the true
meaning of itiha’sa etc.

Note 3: All the negative translation errors noted in this entire letter
were done by Jayanta (SUVA). The main point being that unqualified people
such as J should not get the scope to do translation work.

Baba says, “When the question of social responsibility arises, it should be
considered with care and caution. Irresponsible people cannot be entrusted
with social responsibility.” (PNS-7, p. 60)

About the present era Baba furthermore guides us.

Baba says, “Those who are selected for discharging social responsibilities
do not possess the necessary qualities [morality]. They have occupied the
posts either for money or for recommendation, but no social good has been
accomplished.” (PNS-7, p. 61)

Baba finally warns us:

Baba says, “If power is given to an incompetent person, it is the
equivalent to leading society astray in cold blood.” (PNS 7- p.61)

****************************************
Slowly Moving Towards Cemetery

Baba says, “Human beings often attached less importance to the spiritual
aspect of nitya karma and more importance to the physical aspect. This is
detrimental because one should not forget that human life is short while
act is long. From the very moment of birth one slowly and steadily advances
towards death with every passing moment of time. This short period of time
from birth to death is human life. Human beings have come from the world of
invisibility and at the end of this short span of time will return to the
land of invisibility. Those people can be called intelligent who utilised
every moment of their short life engaged in spiritual practice.” (APH-4, p.
251)

“Tumi esechile, mrdu hesechile sudha’ d’ele…” – P.S. 2309

Purport:

Baba, You came and smiled softly and graced me with the showering of
Your divine nectar. Unfortunately, that time I was just engrossed in my own
lustful and crude attachments; I was oblivious of Your divine presence.
Neither did I turn around to look towards You; nor did I talk with You.
That was my pitiful condition.

Baba, keeping my room bolted shut, in that isolated state I was just
secretly involved in thinking about my own greatness. In that crude state
of mind I was constantly hankering for more and more prestige– for more
name and fame. Baba, I was sitting on the shore of the black river* only
involved in my own crude, selfish, and egoistic thoughts.

O’ my dearest One, I did not look towards so You left– but even then
You graced me with Your abundant love. Baba, You are so gracious. In spite
of my not caring about Your arrival because my mind was so crude, even then
You showered so much grace that the whole world is dancing ceaselessly in
Your divine love. Baba, the colorful flowers are ensconced & swaying in
Your loving vibration and they have started blossoming uncontrollably. It
is Your causeless grace.

O’ Baba, You are so magnificent & gracious; You have come and blessed me
with Your divine love– You have saturated my whole existence. Baba, You
are grace personified…

ASTERISK NOTES:

* ‘Shore of the black river’ [krs’n’a’ nadiir ku’le]= This represents that
dark, negative, or degenerated state of mind where one’s mind is dominated
by all kinds of crude thoughts and desires. Thus when the mind is very low
and one is just hankering for prestige, and singing about their own glory,
and they want that others should praise them;– Such persons are
degenerated. Their mind is in the lower kosa. And they do not want to
listen to anything other than the tales of their own greatness. This is
what it means by sitting by the shore of the black river.

So we should recount those
sacrifices done for sake of ideology and take up the vow that once again we
should protect and propagate this grand AM ideology.

DADHIICI DIVAS IS ONLY CELEBRATED ON ONE DAY

Initially Dadhiici Divas was declared in memory of those great souls who
lost their lives in that tragic incident of 5 March 1967. And then are more
struggles ensued and dedicated sadhakas sacrificed their lives for the
ideology. So Baba created the system and gave idea that this day of March 5
will be the one single day to remember & honour all those who sacrificed
their existence for the great call of dharma– AM ideology.

Dharma– irrespective of which date and in which particular manner lives
were actually sacrificed. Only one day is fixed to honor those whoc gave
their life for the ideals of AM. And that is day Dadhiici Divas, 5 March.

THE DETAILS OF THAT FATEFUL DAY

Here is a more in-depth look back at the events which transpired on that
fateful days of 5 March 1967 as well as the events leading up to it.
As is commonly known our Ananda Nagar was first started on over 1000 acres
dusty land in Baglata, Purulia Dst West Bengal in 1964. And that time so
many beautiful projects and programmes were started to materialise Baba’s
vision. From primary schools to a college, and medical clinic, children’s
home, etc. Many great projects were going one.

But by 1967 serious resistance started to come from the nefarious communist
party– CPI(M). Those days the CPI controlled the entire local Purulia area
and they and a wicked grip on the West Bengal Govt by having many high
positions.

So now we can see how the tensions were mounting those days.

Because on the one hand due to selfless service by our Marga wholetimers in
& around Ananda Nagar, the local people/ villagers were getting benefited
and were coming close. And the villagers began to see how the CPI was
exploiting them.

In reaction, the CPI(M) began to instigate local movements to conspire
against AM. To that end, members inspired & supported local BDO Ashok
Chakravarty against our AN Ashram. Then in Aug 1966 this BDO came to our
Ashram saying he wanted to be member of the controlling body of our AM
Degree College.

When it was explained to him that unfortunately he did not meet our
Ashram’s regulations for such position, then he became quite furious and
irate. Then to counter-attack and get revenge he returned in Feb 1967
demanding for our Marga to support the local communist candidate in the
General Elections. Of course our WT & Margii brothers and sisters humbly
explained about our socio-spiritual approach and that we do not support any
political party, per se.

And together with the BDO they sabotaged our relation with the villager
through numerous underhanded and grotesque scene.

For example the communists and the BDO secretly slaughtered many cows and
stealthily spread those remains around the villages in the middle of the
night. And they told and spread the roomers that the Ananda Marg Ashramites
were responsible for the nefarious work. Of course in that case Hindus were
furious since they worship the cow as goddess.

And made
all the Hindus and Muslims present that day to swear by oath on Mahabarata
and Koran books to remove these AM sadhus by any means, to include murder.

And fifth March was decided to be the day to carry out their dark plot. It
was known by all including AN Ashram residents, all Purulia gov’t and
police officials and West Bengal gov’t that the event was planned.

Certainly Ananda Marg Sannyasis appealed to both the Purulia gov’t and to
police multiple times for protection and security from oncoming doom. But
all of those appeals were ignored. And just one skeletal, paltry force of
police was assigned to the ashram grounds. That was the night of March 4th
but it was all done only to make a show etc. Proof being that by three
o’clock in the morning of 5th March Ananda Nagar was declared as being safe
by chief of police. So he left to go back to Purulia, leaving behind only
small show of around thirty men.

Namaskar,
Gurucharan

Baba

PS Intro: In this following song the devotee is lying at Baba’s lotus
feet, ensconced in a’nanda. And in that deeply devotional atmosphere,
the sadhaka is desperately calling to all the jiivas to also come close
to Baba, the Parama Purusa incarnate, and have His darshan and get His
blessing.

“Ba’n’sga’rii bahiye ja’y, saha’s nayane ca’y
Goloker hari a’ji gokule liila’ raca’y…” (P.S. 3658)

Purport:

Today, the Hari of the divine world has manifested His liila in the
land of devotees. With His sweet grace He is moving all around playing
His divine flute– showering His charming smile and gracious eyes upon
all. With reddish lips, He is beckoning each and everyone. He is
telling: ‘Come close, come to Me– quickly, as soon as possible, come
running, so we can be together up to eternity’. Today that Hari of the
divine world is showering bliss on everyone. We are so graced.

Everyone is His kith and kin; all are His own; nobody is alien.
No one is far; everyone is close. All are His most intimate ones.
By His grace everyone gets Him in their thinking, japa, and meditation.
Everyone resides in His mind; everyone has a place in His heart.
By His causeless grace, now the river of devotion is flowing at
high current. His divine rasa is dancing, overflowing, & splashing
in ecstasy. With His fathomless grace the garland of waves is swaying
to and fro. All are ensconced in His bliss.

For crushing the dus’t’a (demonic people) and for saving & nurturing
the virtuous & dharmic people and for destroying the nefarious and
deadly demons, He comes again and again on this earth with the rumble,
twang, and beating of His kettle drum. There is no one else on this
earth who has such infinite and countless qualities. That Hari of the
divine world is the abode of all heavenly attributions.

Come one, come all. The Lord of the universe has come today with
gracious splendour, and He is showering His divine liila upon all
devotees. He is most loving and ever-gracious…

== BABA’S DARSHAN OF NIILKANTHA DIVAS ==

Namaskar,
We all know that the festival of Niilkantha Divas stands as one great
occasion in our AM society. That of course marks the day– Feb 12,
1973– when in the divine liila of Parama Purusa, Baba Himself swallowed
the poison dealt to Him by those sinful forces during His incarceration.

Upon initial reflection, one might sincerely think this day of
Niilkantha is a time to grieve or be sorrowful and to solemnly recall
the past– since after all this was the time when a dreadful attack was
done against our Sadguru. In this way some were thinking those days.

To clear the matter to one and all, in His divine way Baba Himself has
guided us that Niilkantha Divas is a day of great joy and tremendous
dharmic spirit that holds long-term & far-reaching ideological
significance. Hence, Baba has declared this day as a full-fledged
festival in AM– full of merriment and righteous action.

I WAS THERE ON THAT OCCASION

By Baba’s fathomless grace I was present at that very morning general
darshan on 12 Feb 1979 in Patna when Baba Himself has given the full
descriptive analysis about the inner meaning of Niilkantha Divas as well
as how it should be celebrated. By Baba’s grace I could note down the
various scenes and expressions of that blissful day in my diary. And all
of that– my entire journal entry from that very occasion– is presented
down below in this email.

ONE SPECIAL SIGNIFICANCE

Perhaps of greatest import regarding this day is that Baba has declared
Niilkantha Divas as a day to oppose any and all injustices and sinful
acts– wherever one may be. Baba wants that Niilkantha be an extra
special occasion where we whole-heartedly raise our voice and take a
staunch stand against all sorts of misdeeds committed by those terrible
sinners of the present.

According to Baba, it is a time when we are to express our sentient
anger (sattvika krodha) and forcibly create the necessary circumstantial
pressure to make those unrighteous and wicked people give up their nasty
activities and mend their unjust ways. It is a time bring negative
elements onto the path of welfare. This is one of the special aspects of
Niilkantha Divas.

And here following is more about this entire occasion of this great and
holy AM festival.

LITERAL MEANING OF NIILKANTHA DIVAS

Niila Kantha is a Samskrta term. “Niila” means blue; “Kantha” means
throat. This is the literal meaning of Niila Kantha: Blue throat. And
‘divas’, as we all know means day. So the entire meaning of Niila Kantha
Divas is “blue throat day”. As this was the day when Baba Himself
allowed His throat to ‘turn blue’ by swallowing the deadly poison that
those papiis gave Him when He was in jail.

FIRST-HAND ACCOUNT OF BABA’S DARSHAN THAT DAY
(Directly from my diary notes of that occasion)

Here now begins my first-hand account of what transpired at that morning
general darshan of the first celebration of Niilkantha Divas after Baba
was released from jail. As all may recall Baba Himself came out from the
Jail towards the end of 1978. So Baba’s below darshan took place on
Monday, 12 February 1979 in Patna, six years to the day of that
poisoning incident.

As Baba majestically appears on the scene at that morning General
Darshan the Margiis vigorously raise the slogan, ‘Niilkantha Baba Kii–
Jai!!’.

Hearing this Baba lovingly jokes with the margiis and says, ‘Enemies
wanted to kill Me but by your well-wishing I was saved’.

Then, in a very sweet and caring way, Baba states that up till now
margiis have been observing a fast on this day and treating Niilkanth
Divas as a solemn occasion. But why should margiis fast on this day, He
says. Rather, instead of fasting, Baba says that we should follow
sentient anger– sattvika krodha, not tamasik krodha (static anger), aka
revenge.

Baba then explains that sadhus do sattvik krodha; and Baba begs the
question, what is sattvika krodha?

Baba explains: Sattvika krodha is a day of sentient anger where
righteous people oppose all wrongdoings and injustices. On this day of
Niilkantha Divas, Baba declares that it is the duty of dharmikas to put
forth a challenge to all sinful and wicked forces. To bring about the
needed momentum and force those sinners to change their ways and rectify
themselves. It is a day when righteous people in one voice strongly
stand up against injustices.

After Baba raises the dharmic point about sattvika krodha He raises
another aspect of this festival of Niilkantha Divas.

Baba says: You know that on this day sinners gave Me poison. And what
should you do? According to your capacity and strength, you should serve
the best and tastiest food possible to one needy person– lovingly feed
them up to their heart’s content.

Baba continues: In return for the poison which we received, you should
offer nectar (a’mrta).

Baba clarifies: According to your capacity serve the highest calibre and
best food possible to at minimum one person. Margiis can serve food to
more persons than that, but at least one needy person– margii or
non-margii– you should serve. And our wholetimers should do the same.
In the case of avadhutas or wholetimers who do not have money, they will
have to beg and get the necessary money in order to serve food to at
least one needy individual.

This is Baba’s dharmic directive for this day.

…Then there is a short lull.

Margiis then respectfully request Baba that He should say something.

Baba sweetly replies, ‘Oh I have to say something’. (margiis laugh)

Then in a jolly and joyful way Baba says, ‘Let Ramananda say something’.

In a reverential way Ramanandji politely requests Baba to speak instead.

Baba indicates that Ramanandji should speak first.

Ramanandji begins, ‘Actually you know on 12th February 1973 on this very
day Baba was poisoned in Bankipur Central Jail. This conspiracy was
hatched up by the CBI, those who since the very beginning are trying to
finish Baba from this world. So on this very day in 1973 He was poisoned
in the Jail. Actually I was the first visitor to visit His cell. When I
saw Him lying on the bed then He was not in position to move; He was not
in position to speak and I came to know…’

And for the next minute or two Ramanandji continues to explain how he
understood and got confirmation from doctors that Baba had indeed been
poisoned.

Then Ramanandji tells, “We just tried that there should be an inquiry
into this incident that who is behind…”

Baba interjects, “Judicial proof.”

Ramanandji continues, “Who is the person behind this nefarious work. So
we wanted judicial inquiry– judicial proof. Then [because] the Indira
government… never gave us the opportunity to express ourself to place
the fact before the public that what are the things. She suppressed this
point. She did not institute inquiry. Then Baba was compelled to go on
fast from 1 April 1973 and He continued His fast up to 1 Aug 1979.”

Then many people politely say, “1978”.

Then in a very decent and humble way, Ramananda corrects himself and
says, “1978– sorry”.

Ramanandji continues, “So 5 years, 4 months, and 1 day He continued His
fast. So these things, actually…”

Then Revered Baba graciously offers what He told the leader of India
regarding the poisoning incident.

Baba says: ‘I wrote a letter to the President of India that I know who
are the black hands working from behind the curtain’.

This was Baba’s dharmic message to the corrupt leaders those days.

Thereafter Ramanandji continues to explain how so many letters were
written and how so many problems happened. There were so many torments
and difficulties and some did self-immolation in order to get justice.
Baba says, ‘So many boys and so many girls died.’

Ramanandji explains that up till today we were not knowing how to
celebrate this day. The question was proposed what the day should be
called and we collectively decided it should be– Niilkantha Divas. But
since 1973 we did not have proper guidance how to observe this occasion.

Ramanandji explains how Baba asked them earlier their opinion how to
celebrate the day. And none of the Dadas present could give an
acceptable reply. And then it was at that moment that Baba first
beautifully revealed the concept of sa’ttvika krodha as well as the
program of feeding at least one person a tasty and savory meal. (All of
which is described up above.)

Note: This concludes my diary entry from that memorable morning general
darshan of 12 February 1979.

SOME UNIQUE ASPECTS OF NIILKANTHA DIVAS

Hence Niilkantha Divas is not something that is limited or just related
with that particular historical incident, but it also has a long-term
ideological significance.

So it is not just a point of history but a way to live life in a new
way. It is a day to oppose injustices. That is the purpose.

Up till now, through this present moment in 2007, this aspect of
sentient anger has mostly ignored or forgotten during our Niilkantha
celebrations.

Yet as shown above, Baba has clearly given the point of opposing
injustices– especially on this day of Niilkantha Divas. And those who
were also present that time can also confirm that Baba has told like this.

So just like other festivals have their own specific purposes such as:
Light festival, Spring festival, Ananda Purnima etc. Likewise Niilkantha
Divas has its own special significance.

In the past usually we were just feeding people, but the significance is
more than that. By Baba’s direction we are to take the strong resolution
and vow to fight against injustices and establish dharma.

The various religions just give lectures and then feast during their
festivals. But our Marga is not like that. All our festivals are joyous
and hold the seed of dharma and righteousness also.

During our Niilkantha Divas it is our dharmic duty to change sinners
into good people. By Baba’s grace we are to save and rectify them.

In this grand endeavour of following the proper spirit and guideline of
Niilkantha Divas, Baba’s eternal blessing is with us every step of the way.

Namaskar,
Amoghasiddhi

Note 1: SA’TTVIKA KRODHA

In His below teaching Baba clearly outlines the meaning of sentient
anger– sa’ttvika krodha.

Baba says, “Suppose a very good man is harshly rebuking an immoral
person for having insulted him. Is that unfair? No, no, it is not
unfair. It is called sentient anger. Anger is static; but sometimes it
may be sa’ttvika, it may be sentient. And that type of anger is sentient
anger– sa’ttvika krodha in Sanskrit.” (AV-2, p.73-4 Sept ’78)
So once again on this occasion of Niilkantha Divas we are to follow
Baba’s directive of Sattvika Krodha and oppose injustices wherever they
may be present. We are to help guide this whole humanity into the era of
white peace and righteousness. That is the grand spirit of Niilkantha
Divas

Baba

“Ga’n sedhe ja’i toma’r tare, shun’abe tumi e a’sha’te…” (PS 4799)

Purport:

Baba, You are ever resplendent. On this moonlit night by Your grace I
have lit the lamp of devotion and am sitting here surrounded by the vast
darkness of my reactive momenta (samskaras). Baba, in this situation I
am practicing Prabhat Samgiita, again and again– to please You. Baba, I
sing on and on with this hope: That You will grace me by listening.

Baba, theoretically I know that You are with me always and that You are
my my eternal Sakha’*, but still I wonder what type of relation is this
of ours. Baba, You never spend time with me, & You never speak with me.
Just You keep me all alone. And in that desperate state I become totally
dry inside and I think that without You my entire life is like the
burning desert, with no relief in sight. Baba, without You by my side,
in Your absence, I am totally miserable. Baba, please grace me by coming.

O’ my dearest One, please give me a sign that You are listening to the
calling of my heart. Baba, please come and tell me whether You are
listening or not. After that, You are free to go wherever You like. O’
my dearmost Baba, please be gracious and shower Your sweet smile
directly in my mind so that it makes a permanently blissful impression–
imprinted forever in my memory– like wonderful colours and decoration
of alpana’. Baba, please be ever-gracious and reside always in my mental
abode– up till eternity…

* Sakha’= Baba says, “‘Samapra’n’a’h sakha’ smrtah’. Where love and
devotion are so overwhelming that it appears as if there is only one
entity in two bodies, such a pair of persons is known as ‘sakha”. The
bhakta, the devotee, is the sakha of Parama Purus’a, because the bhakta
can never think of himself as a separate entity from Him. Here he
altogether forgets that he is separated from God. That is why Parama
Purus’a is also a sakha’ to His bhaktas and the bhakta is the sakha’ of
Parama Purus’a.” (AV-6)

== DON’T SUPPORT YOUR FRIEND IF… ==

Namaskar,
People naturally feel respect and gratitude for those who help them in a
time of need. They consider that person a great friend – one whom they
deeply revere and trust. Out of love and affection, they honor that
friendship by lending their support in all aspects of life. This is the
natural human psychology – this is the way most people conduct themselves.

However, we all have to consider how far this approach is really viable,
healthy, and beneficial.

Throughout history and today as well, there are cases which stand as
clear-cut examples of when to no longer support a friend. Even then, due
to their strong sentimental attachment, innocent people get led down the
wrong road due to their undying allegiance to certain friends. And in
result, they have have to face the repercussions.

We should all familiarize ourselves with this problem and know the way
out lest we suffer terrible consequences.

FAMOUS CASE FROM HISTORY

While, there is a distinct need to address this critical issue within
our Marga family – and that will be done in this letter – let’s begin by
examining one of the most famous cases from the past.

Most are aware that during the Mahabharata era, the great warrior Karna
was well known for his undying support of the wicked Prince Duryodhana.
Here is how it came to pass.

Throughout his life, Karna had been humiliated, mocked and abused. And
in one public competition, he was disqualified and not allowed to
participate because of his so-called lowly caste. At that point,
Duryodhana stood up in front of all and preached the greatness of Karna
and Duryodhana even parceled out a portion of his kingdom to Karna.

From that day onwards, Karna gave Duryodhana his ever-lasting
friendship and support.

Baba says, “Throughout his life [Karna] was an out-and-out idealist. He
was the most trusted friend of the Kaoravas. He has some striking points
of similarity with Bhisma; for example, if someone did some service to
him, he always remained faithful to him. He followed a code of simple
morality.” (Disc MHB)

Because of Karna’s sentimental link and heart-felt feeling for
Duryodhana, he remained the most ardent and loyal supporter of
Duryodhana, irrespective of what ills and misdeeds Duryodhana did.

Bhisma, the grandfather was a bit better, as he at least warned
Duryodhana of his wrongdoing, though it has to be noted that in the end
Bhisma did lend his support. But Karna did not even utter a word of
warning to Duryodhana about his sinful and wicked ways.

Baba says, “As Bhisma, the grandfather, had accepted the food and drink
of the Kaoravas, he continued to support them. Of course he tried in his
own way to change the attitude of Duryodhana, but he didn’t exert
pressure on him. Karna did not even try to change Duryodhana’s attitude,
much less exert pressure on him.” (Disc MHB)

In that way, Karna lived under the false notion to remain obedient and
loyal to Duryodhana up to the very last – regardless that Duryodhana was
blatantly going against the collective well-being of the people. Such
was the extent of Karna’s simple morality.

From the day when Duryodhana stood up for Karna in public, Karna gave
his everything to Duryodhana even though Duryodhana was going against
the spirit of welfare and the greater interest of society. Indeed, even
the most devious acts by Duryodhana went without even a hint of
opposition from Karna. He supported Duryodhana throughout – all because
Duryodhana was his friend. All because Karna was guided by simple
morality, not spiritual morality.

Baba says, “Strict adherence to spiritual morality may lead to the
parting of friends.” (Disc MHB)

Karna’s duty was to warn Duryodhana of his wrongdoing and not
blindly remain in such a friendship. More about this solution
is written below.

Ultimately, this friendship bound in simple morality led to Karna’s
untimely death in the pursuit of a dishonourable cause. We should never
fall prey to such circumstances. We must not become the 21st century
version of Karna. We must not sit idle or actively support friends when
they are in the wrong – no matter how much they may have helped us in
the past.

NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT

Unfortunately, the above incident is not a mere relic of the past. In
their naivite and respect, many inside and outside of AM fall into the
same category and meet a similar fate as Karna.

For instance, suppose a young man was drowning or being beaten up on the
street and someone came along and rescued him from his plight, then
naturally that man will hold that person in high regard for having saved
him. He will revere him as a great friend. It happens. And often times,
even if that great friend does something wrong such as cheating at work
or selling illegal drugs, that young man will not oppose his friend.
Rather he himself will get embroiled in those nasty affairs and even get
arrested one day. All because of his desire to be true to his friend.

And there are so many cases of this nature. Here is another case for our
review.

A man comes forward to help a poor family in need, and in response that
poor family will forever sing the praises of that man irregardless of
what tasteless and harmful acts he does. That man may cheat on his wife
or beat his children, but all the while that poor family will keep mum,
only remembering how that man came forward and helped them in their
moment of need. What they do not realise though is that by keeping mum,
they become party to his sins. Anyone familiar with Baba’s teachings on
pratyavaya understands well that prakrti will not spare that poor family
for their inaction.

So under no circumstances should we support any friend who is acting
against the spirit of collective welfare.

Certainly in our day to day life – at school, at our job, in our
neighborhood or community,a and in our Marga – we have seen such cases,
where out of their undying friendship, naive people either get caught up
in misdeeds or fail to come forward and do the right thing.

So we should all be careful.

SEE IT HAPPENING IN AMPS

Tragically we also see such things happening in AMPS as well. Of course
prior to 1990 with Baba at the helm, everything came full circle and all
wrongs were righted.

Since 1990 that has not been the case – out of loyalty and friendship
all kinds of negative things are tolerated and supported.

Here’s how it goes.

Margiis often feel great respect and gratitude to their acaryas or other
workers. They think, “This Dada initiated me”, or “This Dada help me
marry off my daughter”, or “This WT stood up for me in public”, or “This
Dada gave me sadhana lessons” etc. There are any number of things that
might spark a margii to become totally sentimentally linked with one
Dada and consider him their true friend.

Later, even when this Dada does wrong and goes against the interest of
society by tainting Baba’s books, or eliminating BP rights, or promoting
the dogma of Mahaprayan, then still that margii keeps quiet. Basking in
their good feeling for that Dada, ie, their friend, they mistakenly
think that “I must support Dadaji regardless. He is my friend and I
shall remain faithful.”

This is the way it goes – various Wts and margiis are unwilling to
oppose certain Dadas for their wrongdoing because of their friendly
feeling for that Dada. But in so doing, that margii will one day get
directly caught up in groupist misdeeds or they will remain a passive
bystander. In either case, they are inviting grave consequences if not
their own destruction, as parama prakrti will hold them accountable.

Just as Karna paid the ultimate price for blindly following the ways of
simple morality, so will we. Thus no margii should become party to
misdeeds, directly or indirectly, due to their friendship or friendly
association with one Dada etc.

WHAT IS THE PROPER THING TO DO

Due to their sentimental feeling, people get confused and justify that,
“This is my friend and what can I do other than support them.” Such is
the misguided manner of simple morality.

Baba guides us that we are to do something different when we see one of
our friends going against the collective interest and welfare of society.

At that point we have to be strong and say, “Dear friend, I have deep
respect for you – you have helped me a lot – but you must not do these
things. It is my duty to tell you that what you are doing is not good –
please, I request you to change your ways.”

Karna failed to do like this and that led to his downfall.

But this is the way we are to address the problem. Often enough, those
who have helped and guided us are in positions of greater power and
respect, even then we have to come forward and clearly tell them they
are doing wrong. After all they helped us in the past and now it is our
dharmic duty to help them by steering them away from their nefarious acts.

For us to simply leave their company without trying to help them is an
injustice – one must never do like this. Always we have to fulfill our
dharma and try to guide them away from their wrongdoing.

It may be that our friend or benefactor will not pay heed to our words.
Even then we should not give up. With our heart-felt feeling we should
request them again to mend their ways.

If still they refuse, then we have to pursue one of two options.

At that point, (#1) we will either have to walk away from their company
or, (#2) if we are able/strong enough, we should directly oppose them.
Never though should we support them just because we deem them to be a
friend who has helped us in the past.

Baba says, “Spiritual morality that wins over simple morality, but
common people always commit mistakes on this point. It is never proper
to extend support to immoralists.” (Disc MHB)

Thus, even if a Dada has helped us or, initiated us, or opened the local
jagrti, no matter how much sentimental feeling we have for that worker,
if a Wt gets involved in harming the collective by indulging in gross
behaviour, creating Fake Ananda Vaniis, or tainting the BP election
process, etc then we must no longer support that Dada – no matter how
much we may consider them to be our friend. As their friend, it is out
duty to guide them onto the proper path as far as possible. If really
they will not listen, at least we have put forth the proper effort and
escaped the consequences of prakrti.

Even then, due to their sentimental friendship and lack of viveka, a few
margiis get bound up in that Dada’s actions. Either they support him
directly or they fail to tell him to refrain from such acts. And that is
when people get into serious trouble.

NO ESCAPE: WILL HAVE TO FACE THE CONSEQUENCES

We must always remember that by directly or indirectly supporting any
wrong act, then we invariably get caught up in that negative karma.
There is no escape.

Baba says, “However good people may be, they commit some omissional
and/or commissional mistakes – some do it knowingly, some unknowingly,
but once they commit pa’pa, or sin, they cannot retract those mistakes,
they have to suffer, they cannot escape the consequences.” (AV-23)

BABA’S BLESSING

By Baba’s grace none of us should become like Karna and support
wrongdoing just because someone is our dear friend.

Nor should we move away from their company silently.

By Baba’s grace we must have the courage and stamina to verbally guide
them away from their misdeed and bring them onto the right path. If the
guilty party cannot mend their ways then at least we tried.

The whole idea is that in no way shape or form should we ever support
those going against collective welfare. Hence we must not support or
remain silent with those Dadas who taint Baba’s teachings, tear down
margii rights, ruin Baba’s scripture, and other such sins. If we fail to
act and support such friends even in a small way, we too will face the
consequences.

By adhering to dharma, and not gluing ourselves to certain friends, we
are bound to be victorious, by His grace.

Baba says, “Whenever there is a war between dharma and adharma, you are
sure to be victorious. You are not alone – dharma is with you, the
benevolent intellect is with you, and I am also with you.” (AV-7)

Good Teaching

Baba says, “Those who wrongly worship Parama Purus’a in the form of
clay, iron, or other material substances, are ultimately transformed in
Prakrtiliina*. And those who run around externally in hopes of finding
Parama Purusa outside, they also be come Prakrtiliina.” (15 May 1982,

Note: Those who are searching Baba in one or another holy land, they
should be especially careful about this above teaching.

*Prakrtiliina= This is one type of microvita which is under punishment
of reaping of reaping its own negative samskaras.

PS Intro: In this following song Parama Purusa is posing His questions &
speaking directly to the devotee.

“Kon aja’na’r buk theke ele, korn asiime bhese ja’o…” (PS 2222)

Purport:

From which unknown bosom have you come and what is your goal. In which
direction are you floating. You must know you are not meagre or
insignificant. You are the expression of Cosmic Consciousness. He has
created you according to His desire; You are within Him. Now tell me what
you want; what are your desires and longings. You should know that your
Goal is the Parama Purusa.

For ages You remained oblivious of your own existence; era after era
passed like that. You were seeking the answer to all your worries,
anxieties, and problems externally. You were trying to find happiness
outside; and, you were trying to quench your thirst and satisfy your
hunger from material things. You never tried to look within.

Everything is hidden within you. Look within and you will get
everything. Just you have to turn your eyes from outside to inside.
Divert your vision from external to internal. The Divine Entity– who is
your everything, who is your shelter– He
knows each and everything about you. He knows your past, present, and
future– everything. And He loves you too.

Your future is situated in Him up to eternity. Yet forgetting this
eternal and divine truth, what are you looking for. Do not waste your time.

The Divine Entity has bestowed you with human life. Utililse it to satisfy
Him. Do everything according to His wishes. By this way your coming on
this earth will be successful…

== DIPLOMACY IN AM: USEFUL AND SINFUL ==

Namaskar,
As a community, we need to take a clear-cut look at how diplomacy has
been used in AM.

The common belief is that since Lord Krsna used diplomacy then we in AM
may do so as well. This outlook particularly applies to certain workers.
Of course as the Taraka Brahma, all Lord Krsna’s dealings were dharmic;
the same cannot always be said of others.

In the name of satya, some spread lies and falsehoods for their own
agenda and petty gains. In that way, the practice of satya becomes tainted.

In the name of diplomacy, one commits crimes and sins, yet they remain
totally oblivious that they will face ghastly consequences and negative
samskaras – now in this life and the next also.

Such is what happens when people use “satya” and diplomacy for their own
self-interest.

Some mistakenly justify that since Baba has given one such teaching of
diplomacy in His Ananda Vanii series, then they may freely engage in
diplomacy. But here is the proper explanation and use of Baba’s teaching
of diplomacy.

All should be cent-per-cent clear on this critical issue and be able to
apply it to present day events in our Marga. Certain cases are outlined
below.

EXAMPLES FROM THE MAHABHARATA ERA

First off, let’s explore two critical examples of the use of diplomacy
from the Mahabharata era. Because, diplomacy can be used for both sinful
and dharmic purposes.

When in the name of guru daksiina, Dronacarya requested the thumb of
Ekalavya, then that was a very nasty and selfish maneuver. Dronacarya
did this because he did not want to touch to a lower caste student – and
Ekalavya was a so-called untouchable. Due to caste superiority,
Dronacarya senslessly and wickedly ruined Ekalavya’s career.

Baba says, “Shockingly, in the name of guru daksina (sacerdotal fee for
the master), Dronacarya demanded the thumb of Ekalavya) and thereby
spoiled the brilliant career of Ekalavya…And as a result of his
discriminatory treatment of his disciples, Dronacarya had a serious fall
in the battle.” (Disc MHB)

Dronacarya used diplomacy in a harmful and gross manner and thus had to
pay the consequences. Such misuse of diplomacy cost Dronacarya his very
life.

Baba says, “Dronacarya was neither an ideal man nor an ideal teacher. So
it became imperative to eliminate such an acarya from society. That’s
why Shrii Krs’n’a resorted to duplicity and advised Yudhisthira to
announce before the assembled people in deceptive language, “Ashvatthama
hatah iti naro kunjaro va” – “Ashvatthama is killed. This may be
Ashvatthama the man or may be Ashvatthama the elephant.” The Ashvatthama
who was killed was in fact an elephant, not Ashvatthama, the son of
Dronacarya. But the announcement was made in such a way that Dronacarya
was convinced that his son was killed, and was overcome with grief. It
was easy for the Pandavas to slay him.” (Disc MHB)

In this second case, under the guidance of Lord Krsna, Yudhisthira
purposely employed ambiguous language for the sake of dharma and the
well-being of the people. His righteous action has been approved by Baba.

Thus diplomacy, when wrongly used for self-interest, or for the devious
motive to harm others, will lead to one’s demise, as in the case of
Dronacarya’s dealing with Ekalavya; and when used properly, diplomacy is
a great tool of dharma wherein one’s action will bring welfare to the
entire society & whole humanity, as in the case of Yudhisthira.

Here we have to remember that diplomacy and satya are for universal
well-being. That means it must not be limited to benefit of a particular
group or subgroup or even section of humanity like the Christians
society, B group society, or Hindu society.

BABA’S TEACHING OF DIPLOMACY

Here then is Baba’s divine teaching on diplomacy. We should understand
it and apply it to events going on in AM since 1990.

Baba says, “The most valuable treasures on the path of human progress
are honesty, simplicity and spiritedness. In no stratum of life should
you allow the standard of honesty to deteriorate. In no situation,
except during the struggle for dharma, should you indulge in diplomacy
or duplicity. In other words you must keep yourself straight in all
other strata just as in sasta’unga pran’a’ma, and remain vigilant that
the fire of your spiritedness is under no circumstances buried beneath a
heap of ashes…” (A’nanda Va’nii #54)

We should all be acutely aware how and when to use diplomacy as well as
when it must not be used.

SOME OF THE POST 1990 HISTORY:

PLOTTING ONE THING INTERNALLY, DOING SOMETHING ELSE EXTERNALLY

Just see the history…

When good margiis around the globe raised the banner of margii rights,
scriptural distortion, bhukti pradhan rights, and dogma of mahaprayan,
then they faced all kinds of abuse and torment from those at the helm.
Let us see if this was proper use of diplomacy or not.

(I) Mahaprayan: In the early post-1990 period, a few people raised the
point that the dogmatic mahaprayan program undermines the sanctity of
Guru. Baba is eternal, beginningless and endless, yet the dogma of
mahaprayan mandates that Baba is gone. So good margiis came forward to
oppose the mahaprayan program – not for their own interest or gain but
for the proper representation of Guru.

In response, certain top Dadas would externally they say something in
the name of diplomacy such as Mahaprayan is the way to give reverence to
Guru and sing kiirtan, but internally they have the devious agenda based
on their own geo-religious sentiment.

Indeed they waged a veritable war against such margiis who opposed the
dogma of mahaprayan. In the name of their supposed dharmic cause, Dadas
used all kinds of diplomacy against those margiis in order to strip them
of their posts, isolate them, and blacken their careers. Those Dadas
took such harsh measures in order to protect their geo-religious
sentiment of making Kolkata into a Mecca and to bring in huge dollars.

(II) Scripture Distortion: Here is another classic case of the misuse of
diplomacy. In the early and mid-1990s, one Dada infamously ordered
“Translated from the orginal Bengali” to be printed on the title page of
every AM book, irregardless of whether Baba delivered those discourses
in Bengali or not. Their agenda was to highlight and glorify their own
language, not Guru’s teaching.

Externallly said they are following Baba and that Baba confided behind
closed doors that we should do like this, but internally such Dada are
thinking and doing for their own language sentiment and community. First
they want everything translated into Bengali and then into other
languages, even if the discourse was originally given in English or
Hindi or any other language.

Here again, margiis opposed such wrongdoing and in reaction certain
leading Dadas used diplomacy and “satya” to ruin the name of such
margiis. The margiis valiantly wanted Baba’s teachings to be printed “as
is” with proper reference and presentation of the original language.
Their approach was noble and dharmic.

But those top Dadas fought tooth and nail to tear such margiis to shreds
by ousting them from our AM society. They thought that for their own
gain they could employ crude diplomatic tactics. In the end they
themselves were ousted by their own false tactics of expulsion etc.

(III) And there are so many other examples: Fake Ananda Vaniis, misuse
of service project funds, Fake Bhukti Pradhan Manual,
Memorials/Tiirthas, and more.

For instance, such Dadas created Fake Ananda Vaniis for their group
interest where the message to margiis was just to do sadhana, keep
quiet, and not fight or oppose groupism. That was their inner motivation
but externally they talked how their Fake Ananda Vaniis were dharmic
representations of Baba’s ideas. So this was all their diplomacy –
nothing more.

MORE ABOUT THEIR MOTIVATIONS AND DIPLOMACY

In all such cases, groupist leaders mercilessly employed diplomatic
tactics to protect their own status, power and agenda and fend off
margiis who wished to see Baba’s teachings remain pristine.

Internally they have their own geo-political agenda to grab post and
power etc, yet externally they are painting a rosy picture of doing and
dying for Guru and ideology. Their ways are not at all straightforward..

Internally they want to hold a top post and externally they say they are
serving Guru.

However, using diplomatic measures for one’s own gain is not sanctioned
by Baba nor part of our dharmic code. For this reason, those leaders had
to face the consequences – and still they are facing them.

Tragically, since 1990, those in positions of power in our Marga –
regardless of their groupist affiliation – have badly misused Baba’s
teaching of diplomacy for their own petty gain.

They should be aware that they must face the consequences. There is no
other option – they cannot escape prakrti.

MUST UNDERSTAND THE WHOLE VANII

Baba’s Ananda Vanii #54 is more about “honesty, simplicity and
spiritedness” than anything else. Baba is guiding us that all must
adhere to these tenets, “except during the struggle for dharma”.

That means our each and every dealing should be truthful, straight,
pure, and free of all kinds of duplicity and hypocrisy.

Unfortunately, those top group leaders failed to absorb this point. They
forgot to be true in life. All they got from that vanii is that they can
engage in diplomacy.

But that is not Baba’s teaching. Baba’s guideline is that for the sake
of dharma (i.e. universal well-being and benevolence), one may resort to
diplomacy to fight against crude immoral forces, but beyond that one
should be very straightforward in their dealing.

The groupists however thought that their dharma was to rule and in that
case to tighten their grip on power, they can do all kinds of crooked
diplomacy. This is what they think – we can see by their actions from
1990 up till today.

With that in mind, such Dadas have employed all kinds of crude
diplomatic tactics against countless innocent margiis.

NEVER USE DIPLOMACY WITH GOOD PEOPLE

Baba warns us that those who misuse diplomacy for their own gain or
wrongly revert to such tactics against good people will be doomed. That
is also part of His guideline.

That is why today we see many groupists facing the boomerang effect and
adverse reactions to their own misdeeds.

None should fall in this depraved state. We should be 100% honest in all
spheres of life and think 1 thousand times before resorting to diplomacy.

BABA’S BLESSING

By Baba’s grace everyone should be aware that if they are doing for
their own group interest then they will have to bear the burden and
consequences for lives together on end for their misdeeds. One must not
misuse diplomacy for their own gain. They will invite negative samskaras
and have to face all kinds of harsh reactions.

For post, power, and mundane gain one must not indulge in diplomacy.
That is the distinct warning Baba is issuing in Ananda Vanii #54.

Diplomacy is solely for the cause of eternal welfare not for fleeting
mundane gain. Then one can lead a truly dharmic life.

Namaskar,
Rasa Deva

Note 1: MORE ABOUT THAT ANANDA VANII

As you may be aware, Baba issued lengthy purports for all or most of His
Ananda Vaniis during the time of DMC. That means the Ananda Vanii would
be read in various languages and then an involved explanation would be
given. For this particular Ananda Vanii about diplomacy, Baba counseled
Vijayananda and what Baba told in Bangla, Dada he repeated in English….

Furthermore, Baba both questioned and corrected Vijayananda to ensure
the message was proper. Many senior sadhakas have notes from these
occasions in their journals and diaries from DMC. Some of the purports
for the Ananda Vaniis may have been recorded as well.

Finally let us remember that those who use diplomacy in the wrong way
will invite their own destruction. Diplomacy is only for universal
well-being of all.

Health Guideline

Baba says, “Deafness is not a disease by itself, unless it is
congenital. It is an after-effect or reaction to some other
ailment…Excessive use of quinine or similar poisonous medicines for a
long time reduces the power of hearing.” (YT, p.43)

Note: The intake of allopathic medicines contribute significantly to
deafness. One can see this reaction especially in the case of small kids.

Baba

“Sakal bha’ver a’dha’r tumi, toma’r na’me ja’i go mete…” – P.S. no. 787

Purport:

Baba, You are the base of all ideations. By Your grace I am divinely
intoxicated in Your name and song. Within my lonely eyelids I have an
incessant desire to get You.

Baba, the whole universe is filled with Your form. My mind is resonating
in Your tune and melody. In fact, all the rhythms and all the songs have
come on this earth to sing Your glory.

Baba, the whole sky is filled with Your effulgence. Your august arrival
has changed darkness into effulgence. And the iron door of the jail is
pulverized into dust. All the dogma has disappeared. The whole universe
is filled with Your divine effulgence.

Baba, everyone is ensconced in singing Your name…

== THEIR FALL FROM GRACE ==

Namaskar,
I remember that when I visited India before 1990, then our Wts commanded
huge respect. All margiis viewed our acaryas with great reverence– and
deservedly so. Those who were in AM those days surely also remember this.

However, since 1990, that respect has been waning such that at this
present moment the overall regard for Wts is at an all-time low. And
this also is not unwarranted.

Here then is a look into how this shocking scenario has taken place:
Where in such a short span of time the overall status of our acaryas has
plunged deep down into the lower echelons of our AM society.

I also recognise that there are some workers who margiis still regard
quite highly; so we should also look into that phenomenon as well. How
is it that some Wts have rightly maintained their dignified place as a
wholetime worker for Baba.

Lastly, those with experiences and stories about this topic are highly
encouraged to share their insights.

WHY WTS WERE SO REVERED BEFORE ’90

Those pre-1990 days were truly special; we all viewed our acaryas as
being extensions of Baba. Everyone felt special to be in the company of
our Wts. Why is it? Was it magic? Why did our workers seem so vibrated
those days?

Well there are any number of theories that might account for this, but
the underlying factor or root cause is one: Proper conduct.

Those days Baba was adamant that all Wts must follow all the various
codes of conduct. This pressure was placed on every worker as they knew
that Baba would surely point out any laxness in this regard. So from
morning till night, from their pre-dawn cold bath till their final
sadhana before sleep, all our workers were vigilant to follow all
conduct rules as closely as possible.

And this adherence to the system had a big effect on their being.
Because all Baba’s divine guidelines aim towards turning human beings
into veritable gods. Thus when our workers were sincerely involved in
that pre-1990 era of carefully following all the conduct rules, then
they really were on the path of life divine. And their vibration
reflected this. That is why we all wanted to be near our acaryas.

The force behind this great revolutionary era was, of course, Baba’s
ever-watchful eye. For that reason Wts were strict in following the
conduct rules and the result was quite evident.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED SINCE 1990

Astonishingly, a terrible ‘fall from grace’ has happened with many of
our Wts. And here again the cause can be attributed to one root point:
Poor conduct.

Little by little with each and every passing day, month, and year, many
of our Wts began to lose their habit of following those dharmic codes of
conduct. It happened slowly, drop by drop, until finally we have found
ourselves in the mud puddle that exists today.

Because with Baba not physically present to exert pressure on our wts,
and with Centre taking a blind eye towards wrongdoings and degrading
behaviour, then all workers were just free to follow their various
degrading vrttis. And that is what has happened.

Here it is not that all fell directly into sex etc. This happened to
some and that we all know about.

Rather the more over-arching problem was the fall into materialistic
values. That is the general trend that has happened to the majority of
workers. Instead of chasing after Baba and His dharmic ideals, our Wts
have taken to chasing after iPods, laptops, automobiles, video this, and
MP3 that etc.

Indeed some margiis have commented that now many of our Wts are like
teenagers chasing after the latest gizmos and gadgets. This has become
the common episode. And it is not just a superficial occurrence but has
rather filtered into the mentality of our acarya culture.

Because nowadays respect is generated within the Wts ranks based on what
gadget one has and what car one drives. That is the debased mentality
that has taken over. That is how they get their prestige: On what object
they own, not on the depth of their sadhana. Until finally there are
Citkrsnananda type of Dadas who are wholly dedicated for their own
financial gain and nothing else. In that case, heavy-duty Swiss Bank
Accounts entering into the tens of millions become the order of the day.

Tragically this has the scene that has taken over these days. That is
why many margiis and even other Wts have commented that rather than
having acaryas who have dedicated their lives to Baba and dharma, we now
have workers who have given their all to 21st century materialism.

And the root cause behind it all is the failure to follow the conduct
rules. That vigilance is gone from our Wts ranks. There are a few who
sincerely follow and they have the respect of margiis accordingly, but
the general trend is that any Wt can do as they like and no one will say
anything about it. There is no external pressure from Centre or from
their supervisors. Reason being their moral standard is also quite low.
In that way, for the typical wt, their daily routine has become more
mundane and their mental pabulum has become terribly materialistic.
Because they are allowed to degrade themselves and fall into the common
flow of the general society, as no one is there to point them out.

THE PROBLEM IS AT  MOST BASIC LEVEL

Here again it should be reiterated that the problem is not a subtle one.
It is not that some Wts are faltering in pursuing the higher aspects of
life or that some Wts are not using a scrubber to wash their backsides.
The issue is not nearly so subtle or minute. Rather the mass of our wts
are totally drowned night and day in crude de-based behaviour that can
be witnessed with anyone’s crude eyes. And it is this blatant disregard
for the most obvious of conduct rules that is the chief issue at hand.
When this gets resolved then we can work on higher values and less
blatant shortcomings.

WHY DONATIONS ARE DOWN

Is it any wonder than that when our wts are immersed in the chase after
material things that margiis are giving less money to acaryas.

Because when when a visiting worker shows up with a fancy travel bag
filled with the latest marvels of the world of technology, then those
family margiis, who themselves are struggling for their own survival,
think, ‘It seems this worker does not need any money as he has far more
gadgets than my entire family’.

Likewise when a margii enters into a jagriti and sees various workers in
their own rooms watching the latest and greatest on their portable,
wireless video palm-tops, then margiis think: ‘What is the need to give
such workers money. They can already afford everything that they want.
And not only that, they are not going to use the money for mission
work.’ This is that idea that comes to the minds of so many margiis.

So really, this has all led to an drastic reduction in donations given
to our Wts. And that hurts those sincere workers the most– i.e. those
who really are doing Baba’s work and need financial support. Yet it is
the undeniable trend that much less funds are being given to our workers.

THIS IS NOTHING TO CELEBRATE

In the face of this degradation of our Wts, their status in the Marga is
now most ordinary or even lower than that. No doubt groupism is at an
all-time high, but any wt on their own can redeem themselves by keeping
proper conduct. But in the absence of that, margiis find there is little
redeeming value of such workers. For, if they are not dedicating their
lives for Baba and acting accordingly, then what use are they– how can
we even call them acarya.

Unfortunately, in some sparse corners, a few margiis, here and there,
are almost rejoicing in this fall of our acaryas. And there are some
margiis who seem to take great delight in kicking our wts. As if,
finally they got the chance to step on them. A few margiis seem to
behave in this way in that they seem happy that our wts have lost their
flow and now they themselves can be top-notch in AM. But this is not the
way.

Overall it is a shame and terribly unfortunate that this disgraced fall
has happened within our Wt ranks. It would have been far better if our
Wts had been able to rise to the occasion and maintain a strict
spiritual and dharmic flow amongst the cadre. That would have been a
great boon for our Marga & the general society. So many great works & so
much pracara could have been done.

Hence, the fact that our Wts have fallen into mire is nothing to
celebrate. Rather I yearn for those pre-90 days when our Wts were verily
second gods. And surely by Baba’s grace and with the hard work and
cooperation of all, such glorious days will return where our Wts are tops.

WHEN LEADERSHIP IS POOR, SOCIETY CRUMBLES

Our acaryas are meant to stand as the real leaders of society. There is
no doubt about that. Their role is unprecedented as they are the
veritable pioneers who by their conduct and compassion will bring smiles
to the faces of the suffering and inspire young and old alike to adhere
to the tenets of spiritual life. This is their true glory. Family
margiis can also lead but the leadership of our Wts is a vastly needed
element for the welfare of the world. And when that is absent, the
result is not at all good. That is Baba’s strict warning.

Baba says, “Today there is catastrophe and misery in human society and
there is one reason: the defective leadership of society…True leaders
should always be vigilant and think how to work best for human society.”
(AV-31, ‘Conduct of Acarya’)

So when our Wts have fallen away from the acarya code of conduct, then
that has a distinct domino effect. First and foremost then junior wts
will be less inclined to follow those rules. And then that laxness will
spread throughout the entire society.

That is why Baba strongly emphasizes proper behaviour within our acarya
ranks, otherwise things will not bode well for the Marga and the society
on the whole.

Baba says, “Bear in mind that people may be harmed or misled by even a
small weakness or defect in the conduct of an a’ca’rya. Just as it is
the duty of a father to educate his children properly by his good
conduct, an a’ca’rya should always instruct by his exemplary actions and
word.” (AV-31, ‘Conduct of Acarya’)

So without the proper conduct of our acaryas– without them giving up
their lust for material pursuits such as iPods etc– then society will
never be able to advance.

WHAT IS THE SOLUTION — WHAT MARGIIS CAN DO

The solution to this whole problem is two-fold. Firstly, it is important
for family margiis to help resuscitate our acarya culture. Oxygen should
be administered little by little until our Wts regain their feet. And
that ‘oxygen’ should come in the form of soft and gentle words, urging
workers to abide by Baba’s guidelines, if they are remiss in this
regard. This is one of Baba’s special teachings for building a strong wt
cadre and a healthy society.

Baba says, “All Ananda Margis, when they see other margis acting against
the principles of yama and niyama, must make them shun this habit either
by sweet or harsh words or by dealing even more strictly. Thus they will
have to make the society strong. Henceforth I direct every Ananda Margi
to keep strict vigilance on other Ananda Margi to make them practise the
principles of yama and niyama.” (GHC, ‘How to Live in Society’)

So it is our duty to respectfully yet firmly point out the defects as
they occur. Best is to first use gentle words in private and only
increase the circumstantial pressure when needed.

WHAT IS THE SOLUTION– WHAT WTS CAN DO

The second half to the issue is for acaryas to take it upon themselves
to re-evaluate their lives and take the firm determination to live a
life fully based on Baba’s ideals. And then step by step this will
become a reality. Be strict on kiirtan, sadhana, asanas, and a sentient
diet, and then naturally all the rest of the pieces will fall neatly
into place. And indeed that high standard is what Baba wants for our
acarya cadre.

Baba says, “Those who have the responsibility to show the path to others
should be of superlative character with the most refined conduct. They
and their followers must move constantly towards all-round development
and shreya. Persons who teach such well-regulated behaviour to others by
their own conduct are called a’ca’ryas.” (AV-31, ‘Conduct of Acarya’)

And indeed, right now those Wts who follow the proper conduct are highly
regarded and respected by margiis. And deservedly so. Whereas those Wts
who just wear their saffron robe for show are systemically humiliating
themselves and our Marga.

BABA’S BLESSING

By Baba’s grace, our Marga will quickly regain its form. As margiis and
acaryas point out those Wts for their misconduct and as acaryas redouble
their efforts to lead a spiritual life, we will surely see fast results
and the cleaning of our Marga.

Baba says, “O human beings! You are fortunate. The clarion call of the
Universal has reached you. That very call is vibrating in every cell of
your body. Will you now lie inert in the corner of your house? Will you
now waste your time clutching ancient skeletons to your breast and
moaning over them? The Supreme Being is calling you in the roar of the
ocean, in the thunder of the clouds, in the speed of the lightning, in
the meteor’s flaming fires. Nothing will come of remaining idle. Get up
and awaken the clouded chivalry of your dormant youth. The path may not
be strewn with flowers – an inferiority complex may seek to hold back
your every advancing footstep, but even then you have to proceed onward,
tearing the shroud of darkness. You will soon rend the thick darkness of
despair on the way to the attainment of the Supreme State, and advance
onwards in the swift-moving chariot, radiant with the sun’s brilliance.”

SCIENCE BEHIND KIIRTAN

Baba says, “At the time of kiirtana, the vocal cord sings, the ears
hear, and the hands and feet dance, and thus all the organs are kept
preoccupied with the divine. They are not allowed to move wherever they
want but are kept engaged. There is a popular Indian superstition that
when ghosts are not kept busy they break the necks of their prey. Similarly,
if the sensory and motor organs are not kept engaged in the attainment of the
divine, they may lead one astray. Kiirtana is therefore most beneficial as
it keeps all the organs fully engaged in a spiritual pursuit. However, while
doing kiirtan, if one listens to anything else, the mind will be diverted.
Suppose, while doing kiirtana, one lady asks another, `Well sister, what
did you cook today?’ This will also be heard by the practitioners of
kiirtana. To prevent these undesirable sounds from being heard, it is
advisable to play some instrument during kiirtana.” (AV-8, p.13)
