== BABA STORY: HOMOSEXUALITY IS ANTI-DHARMA ==

Namaskar,
The below Baba story clearly depicts how homosexual relations are sinful and against the ethic and code of conduct in Ananda Marga.

Following is a dramatic account how during dharma samiiksa all-knowing Baba revealed the fact how years ago one young male had indulged in homosexual activity.

Already many had come out from dharma samiiksa and told how Baba is aware about every sin and that it is impossible to conceal anything from Him. So the brother was aware that Baba is omniscient and that nothing can be hidden.

Hearing this from others, the young male was terrified to stand before Baba and feeling very repentant for his past sinful dealing.

When he entered for dharma samiiksa, Baba graciously pointed him out, reviewed the case, and consoled him. Baba furthermore warned not to ever do such things again. Baba graciously reassured him that it was done due to keeping bad company.

Here is that story as published by one Dada who witnessed the whole scene.

YOUNG MALE STANDS BEFORE BABA IN DHARMA SAMIIKSA

(The follow is an excerpt from one Dada’s book)

Brother G from the USA stood in front of Baba. After some personal talk, Baba said, “Your mind is unnecessarily disturbed about the past. You made some mistakes of a sexual nature.”

G’s face suddenly became very red. “Yeah…yes, Baba,” he mumbled.

“When you were younger you had some misunderstanding about the relationship between men and women.”

He stared at the floor, saying, “Yes, Baba.”

“But it was not your fault. As a little boy you were simply influenced by your environment.”

G looked up at Baba. He sighed deeply, smiled slightly and said, “Thank you, Baba.”

“No need of thanks,” Baba said. “I merely convey to you the unadulterated facts. You were unaware. Unaware.”

G approached me after the session, wanting to get something off his chest.

“I never told anyone, Dada,” he said, “but since you were present today, I want to tell you that…that before joining Ananda Marga, I had…homosexual relations.”

He watched for my reaction. Seeing none, he continued, “Even though I’ve been doing meditation for a number of years, it’s always bothered me; I’ve always felt guilty. But now Baba’s freed my mind. When He said it wasn’t my fault, something let go inside of me. I feel so light now; I wouldn’t be surprised if I started to fly!”

(Who’s Afraid of the Tantric Guru by Dada Dharmavedananda)

Note: In the above story, a male had sex with another male – that is the sinful dealing that Baba is pointing uotand this same sin applies to females who have sex another female. So this is a universal teaching that applies go all gays, lesbians, homosexuals etc.

Namaskar,
in His Service,
Yogendra

This entire email contains three distinct sections:
(1) Prabhat Samgiita and explanation;
(2) Posting About Ananda Marga’s Stand on a particular social issue;
(3) Trailer Quote.

Each section is demarcated by asterisks (*). Here begins the Prabhat Samgiita:

Baba

“A’ma’r sakal dukher ma’jhe ele tumi dukhaharan’…” (PS 1421)

Purport:

O’ Baba, You are Dukhaharan’ [1]. I was surrounded by sorrows & suffering; I was in big problem; my life was unbearable. You came with Your gazing eyes, silent footsteps, loving smile, and sweet face. Baba, You have blessed me and rescued me by wiping away all my troubles and suffering.

O, Parama Purusa, completely depending upon You with full surrender, in that very distressed and helpless condition, I called You and looked towards You. Raising both my hands in surrender I pleaded, “Baba, please save me; You are my only shelter. I take refuge in You. If You will not save me who will.” At that moment You rescued me by showering Your grace.

Baba, upon opening my eyes I see the effulgence has filled the sky. With Your august presence, the whole sky became enveloped in Your divine effulgence and my mind and heart became drenched in Your love. O’ Parama Purusa, holding Your lotus feet, singing Your songs, and remembering Your glory with all my heart, I surrender unto You…

NOTE FOR PRABHAT SAMGIITA #1421:

[1] Dukhaharan’: Parama Purusa is the remover of sorrows and suffering. That is why, among His infinite epithets and qualities, one of His names is Dukhaharan’ (Dukha= pain or suffering; haran’= to take away). In the Mahabharat era when the Queen Draopadi faced humiliation at the hands of her captors, she surrendered fully and was saved. The point is that being the Dukhaharan’, Parama Purusa removes a sadhaka’s afflictions. As we know afflictions are of three types: physical, psychic, and spiritual. So when any devotee is suffering from any trouble or torment in any realm of life then Parama Purusa Baba showers His grace and relieves them of their pain and suffering.

== SHOULD I RALLY AROUND MY INFATUATION ==

Note: If you know anyone who is gay and by mistake joined Ananda Marga, kindly share this letter with them or convey these ideas to them. Thank you.

Namaskar,
All kinds of weaknesses are accepted and approved in materialistic society. But in Ananda Marga, we are a man-making mission. There is no place for “sex for sex sake” in Ananda Marga. In Ananda Marga, sex is for procreation.

I know for years and years you have felt alienated in Ananda Marga. You want to live under the bright, brilliant skies of Ananda Marga, and at the same time continue your chosen mode of living. But that does not work because Ananda Marga philosophy does not appreciate “sex for sex sake”.

Thus when these days gay marriage is always in the news and gaining momentum, naturally you feel a sense of relief and victory. You may even feel vindicated and hope that one day this will be welcomed in Ananda Marga.

Now let’s review this situation and examine the stand of Ananda Marga on homosexuality.

ILLUSION

Like you, many in the gay community hold dearly onto the following notion:

“As I have a strong attraction for the same sex, then this practice should be honoured and I should have the right to marry as well.”

This is a very commonly held position.

PEOPLE HAVE ALL KINDS OF ATTRACTIONS

However we have to remember that people have all kinds of mundane attractions in life. But having the attraction itself does not justify the action.

For instance:
1) A person may feel sexually attracted towards children;
2) A person may have the attraction for countless sexual partners;
3) A husband may be attracted to someone and cheat on his wife;
4) A person may be attracted to having sex with animals.

Indeed about the latter, Baba has given one report.

Baba says, “Syphilis first originated in dogs, and through contact with them the human body got infected.” (Yogic Treatments)

Thus, because some were attracted to dogs and got sexually infatuated in that way, they contracted a terrible disease.

Here the point is that people have all kinds of attractions in life. Some are attracted towards money, towards sex, towards so many things in this mundane world. But simply being allured by the power of attraction does not by definition imply that the action is good, justified, or natural according to the standards of Ananda Marga philosophy. Rather it may cause a lot of harm and lead people astray.

That is why good people, conscientious people, will control any dirty attraction and not act upon it. They understand that attraction stems from a particular weakness of mind and it should be overcome.

ANANDA MARGA’S VIEW OF HOMOSEXUALITY

Each and every action of our human existence is geared towards reaching Parama Purusa. So all our thoughts, words, and deeds are for attaining that Supreme stance. This is what AM ideology preaches and teaches. Those actions which support this ideal are in consonance with Ananda Marga teachings, while we discourage those actions which inhibit this ideal.

POINT OF BIO-PSYCHOLOGY

In His teachings of bio-psychology, Baba specifically guides us how the human body is but a vehicle for moving along the path of spirituality. That is how it is to be used. To support and enhance this process we are not to allow lymph to be converted into semen other than for procreation. Those using sex as a tool for enjoyment are misguided. Because human beings cannot get satiation from any worldly engagement. (Note: Please refer to the book, Ananda Marga Elementary Philosophy.) We are to maintain a maximum amount of shukra as this aids us in our spiritual journey.

IMPORTANCE OF RESTRAINT

So Ananda Margiis follow this clear-cut pathway by exercising control over these base propensities. In our Ananda Marga, our strict policy is that sex is for procreation only. That is Baba’s guideline.

When advising and guiding us on human sexuality, Baba has given the following mandate.

Baba says, “As regards the question of restraint and lack of restraint, the more one practises restraint, the greater will be their well-being.” (Caryacarya-3)

In a nutshell, it can be said that ‘sex for carnal pleasure’ or ‘sex to try and satisfy one’s animalistic desire’– i.e. just out of lust – is not at all supported by AM. This has no place in our Ananda Marga. Even animals do not behave in this way: They indulge in sex only to procreate, not for any other reason. If you see animals living around human beings doing otherwise, that is because of human interference / influence.

HOMOSEXUALITY: SEX FOR ANIMAL PLEASURE

But in homosexual & lesbian relations etc, their entire platform is ‘sex for the sake of sex’– just falling into lust and giving way to one’s animalistic propensities. When there is no possibility of procreation, then there is no rational support for that type of lifestyle. That is the teaching of Ananda Marga philosophy. Seeking true pleasure in this way is like searching for healthy, sentient food in the sewer.

So homosexuality runs contrary to the aim of human life, according to bhagavada dharma. When sex is supposed to be only for procreation – that is the only time that sex is supported in our AM way of life – then there is no logical support whatsoever for the ways of homosexuality / lesbianism, where sex is just an “animalistic pleasure-seeking” tool. Ultimately, such relations will just lead to one’s degeneration and degradation.

So the entire so-called culture of homosexuality runs directly contrary to the lofty tenets of our Ananda Marga ideological stand. Because homosexual and lesbian relations are just based on sexual expression.

SELF-DISCIPLINE IS NEEDED

Some confused persons may try to justify homosexuality by preaching the gospel of western “open-mindedness”. They may say that everyone is allowed to indulge in any way they please. However, that does not hold any ground in Ananda Marga; homosexual relations cannot be supported in our view, just as prostitution, smoking, meat-eating, and intoxicants are not allowed in Ananda Marga.

Ananda Marga stands for discipline and self-control, not indulgence and promiscuity. That is why the golden teachings of yama and niyama are given utmost importance and brought into the limelight. The literal meaning of yama is control. The practice and path of Ananda Marga begins with control. If anyone does not have the requisite control, they are in the wrong place.

It is just like if an alcoholic wants to become a margii then we cannot compromise and accept alcohol in Ananda Marga. Rather that person should be educated and goaded to give up alcohol and live according to Ananda Marga principles. Then they will be an Ananda Margii. Same with all vices; they cannot coexist with Ananda Marga. Rather those vices should be dropped and then we can welcome such persons into Ananda Marga.

That is, we should neither encourage nor support the practice of homosexuality; but we will certainly aim to help those involved to overcome this manner of living by introducing them to 16 Points and working for their overall growth and development.

WORLDLY INFATUATION AND ANANDA MARGA

Here again about worldly infatuation, in many cases people have their own justifications etc, but in the end these all stem from a point of weakness.

A person may be morbidly obese and suffer from high blood pressure. Yet he may see a big piece of cake or a Big Mac at McDonalds and feel attracted to eating that. This may be an attraction that they have. But who can say that this attraction is righteous – who can say that this attraction should be acted upon. Having the attraction is not the defining point of whether an action is proper or not.

For example, some may wish to drink a bottle of alcohol or do harsh illegal drugs. Here again, being allured to something does not justify the act or prove it worthy. In many cases, people have proclivity towards a particular habit because of their own personal weakness. It happens – commonly so.

It is very important that we understand which types of attraction are born out of human weakness and which desires lead us on the path of welfare. The two should not be confused. Unfortunately now in this materialistic era, many fall prey to the former, indulging in all kinds of activities out of weakness.

Just because one claims, “I am attracted to…”, that is not a proper justification for homosexual relations. In Ananda Marga, we do not appreciate base physical attraction in any situation, neither if a man is attracted to a man nor if a woman is attracted to a woman, nor a human sexually attracted towards animals. In neither case is it good; all lead to degeneration.

IN ANANDA MARGA: SEX IS FOR PROCREATION

Sex itself is nothing but a medium for producing offspring, i.e. for having babies. If two married people have sex for the sake of society building, i.e. having children, then that is most natural and supported.

If however, males and males or females and females just randomly engage in sexual activity purely out of lust, then that is their weakness. And ultimately, like many weaknesses, they will suffer the consequences.

Acting on lustful tendencies of mind is no different from other indulgences.

A heart patient will suffer from a heart attack or stroke if they continue to act on their attraction toward greasy foods. And there are so many examples. So when sex is for procreation, then we must understand that those randomly engaging in sex out of purely lustful attraction are not on the path of welfare. And they will suffer the consequences in the form of psychic degradation and physical diseases like impotency, cervical cancer, AIDS etc.

The central ideas is that when sex itself is for procreation, then when there is no possibility for a gay relationship to produce children, that relation too is not consistent with nature. One may have the attraction and one may justify therefore it is “natural”, but that attraction is born out of human weakness, not human dharma.

The conclusion is not that gay and lesbian relations should be outlawed. Rather a compassionate understanding should pervade our society and help and support should be offered.

No one should be left to wallow in this weakness of mind. None should be left to stand there and say, “I am attracted toward gay relations and therefore that is my right.” This type of defective logic should not be anyone’s lone battle cry.

MUST NOT SURRENDER TO WEAKNESSES

Our human society suffers so much these days and most often this suffering stems from indulging in human weaknesses. But we should recognise such things as defects – and not rally around them as being high ideals.

Again, as a child of Parama Purusa, I have deep feeling for you as my brother and sister. This is not an easy issue to deal with. Yet together we must examine the matter with a sense of vaeragya (detachment), then we can view the matter for what it is.

An alcoholic never likes to think that alcohol is bad. That comes from his attachment to that habit. The moment he is able to step back and see the big picture without projecting his own weakness or justification, then he will instantly realise that alcohol is not beneficial. So it takes a sort of detachment.

Same is the case with regards to homosexuality. Today, many are rallying around your cause of gay rights and gay marriage. Yet with a calm and balanced mind, detached from your preconceived notions, you can see how far this is proper & beneficial or not.

Then, I believe, you will see that it results out of human weakness.

HOW TO GOAD THE MIND TOWARDS PARAMA PURUSA

These days, especially in the west, weaknesses like homosexuality / gay rights are held as being highly progressive ideas. People speak proudly of it. But this is not the essence or crowning point of human life in Ananda Marga.

If people are taught from their very childhood about sexuality and spirituality and what our human organs are for, then that will steer most onto the proper path.

If we as a humanity understand that this results from a point of weakness and is not something great or broad-minded, then we can help people advance.

Ultimately we are to rally around those great ideals of neo-humanism and psycho-spirituality, and not get drowned in human weakness – whether that be theft, debauchery or homosexuality.

Then no one will say, “I hanker homosexual relations and therefore it is good and should be approved in Ananda Marga.” Rather people will aim for a higher goal in life, and not get bogged down in human weakness.

CONCLUSION

By Baba’s grace, ours is a dynamic human society where there is love and empathy for all, regardless of who they are and how they live. With this compassionate understanding.

Here I repeat:

But in homosexual & lesbian relations etc, their entire platform is ‘sex for the sake of sex’ – just falling into lust and giving way to one’s animalistic propensities.

When sex is supposed to be only for procreation – that is the only time that sex is supported in our Ananda Marga way of life – then there is no logical support whatsoever for the ways of homosexuality / lesbianism, where sex is just an “animalistic pleasure-seeking” tool. Ultimately, such relations will just lead to one’s degeneration and degradation.

So the entire so-called culture of homosexuality runs directly contrary to the lofty tenets of our Ananda Marga ideological stand. Because homosexual and lesbian relations are just based on sexual expression.

Those so-called philosophies that preach that sex is for enjoyment and condemn gay relations are hypocrites. If they allow prostitution, alcohol, pornography etc but oppose gay relations, then they are hypocrites. Our stand on this issue of homosexuality is different from what the various religions advocate. Sex is only for procreation. That is the way srsti cakra (cycle of creation) works.

In Ananda Marga, sex is only for procreation. We should not forget that ours is Ananda Marga, the Path of Bliss.

BABA’S RELATED TEACHINGS

“The mental tendencies of appetite, sleep, fear and sex urge are found among humans and animals. So what is the difference between the two? The distinction between humans and animals is that humans have a sense of Dharma. Human beings practise Dharma, but animals do not. A person who does not pursue the path of Dharma in spite of being endowed with the human form is just like a beast.” (1)

“People run after money because they believe that they can maintain their lives under the shelter of money, that money alone can save them. They do not know that money can provide neither a permanent stability nor securely founded shelter. During the span of one’s life money will come and go several times. At times its glamour will dazzle our eyes and at other times the lack of money will make one cry from hunger. Not only money, but all finite objects have this characteristic. One uses finite objects with the intention of enjoying only one of their portions, then sooner or later the residue will be reached. That which is finite cannot permanently remain the object of your enjoyment or your permanent resort. The existence of all these things is dependent on other things – bounded by the limits of time, place and person. In philosophical terms the attraction for finite objects is called Ásakti and the attraction for the infinite is Bhakti.” (2)

“When this attraction is for any non-integral entity, or for any small entity this is called káma. When that attraction is for that integral entity, and the integral entity is only one and that one is Parama Puruśa – it is called Prema. When the attraction is for the non-integral entity, for money, for family, for land, it is called Káma; when it is for integral entity it is called Prema and the mental tendency during Káma i.e., the mental tendency during attraction for a non-integral entity is called Ásakti in Saḿskrta and the mental tendency during attraction for that Integral Entity is called Bhakti. Do you follow?” (3)

“Bhakti means to withdraw one’s attractions from all objects and channelize them towards Parama Puruśa. When the unit self is associated with the cosmic it is called “bhakti” or “devotion”, but when it is associated with the mundane it is called “attachment”. You must withdraw your mental propensities from all external objects – no matter what they might be – and channelize them only towards Parama Puruśa. Only when you direct them towards Him, can it be called bhakti. If you allow your mind to become fascinated by any other object, it is called “ásakti” or “attachment”. When your only desire is for Iishvara, it is called “Iishvara-bhakti”, but when that attachment is for wine, for example, it is called ásakti for wine. An attachment for any object other than Parama Puruśa is called “ásakti”.” (4)

“The meaning of the word bhakti is “attraction to the Supreme”. When the attraction is to something limited, it is called ásakti, and when the attraction is to the Supreme, it is devotion, bhakti. There is no compromise, no meeting point, between ásakti and bhakti, between attraction to the Supreme and attraction to the objects of the world. In ásakti, the feeling is that I get the object. In bhakti, the feeling is that I merge myself in Him. Where there is no desire, there the Lord lives. The Lord and the desire for the world, like the sun and the night, cannot coexist.” (5)

== HOMOSEXUALITY & ANANDA MARGA ==

Namaskar,
These days homosexuality is a critical and high-profile social issue. As Ananda Margiis we should know our stand on this poignant matter. By this way we can stand together in one voice and best counsel and educate others.

Of course, our way is to support everyone’s growth and development – not to malign homosexuals (i.e. gays and lesbians) as human beings. We respect the existential and human value of everyone. Here the point is to gain clarity on this issue by reviewing the topic in a rational way. Then we can truly help society advance.

Namaskar,

“So if someone by birth has attraction for the same sex, they can be an Ananda Margii so long as they do not engage in sexual relations with the same sex. Because no matter what, that sexual interaction will not be for procreation. Those of the same sex cannot produce children. So if one has attraction for the same sex, they must refrain from sexual activity and divert the mind toward Parama Purusa. Just as unmarried margiis who have attraction for the opposite sex must refrain from sexual activity and goad their thought to the Supreme; or just as widowers or divorcees must overcome their attraction for the opposite sex and refrain from sexual activity by diverting their mind toward Parama Purusa; or just as those who take the vow to remain celibate refrain from sexual engagement by ensconcing their mind in dhyana sadhana. Because in Ananda Marga sex is not for enjoyment or bliss as materialists believe; rather, in our Ananda Marga, sex is only for procreation.” (Subject: Those Confused About Gay, posted: 7/29/12)

Unfortunately a few of our Dadas are not living up to this standard. Specifically, there are two Wts that come to mind: Dada R and Dada H.

(Note: Throughout this letter I will refer to them as Dada R & Dada H; those who want to know their full avadhuta names can read note 1 at the bottom of this letter.)

ABOUT THESE TWO DADAS

Here then are some of the points about Dada R & Dada H:

1) They themselves are gay lovers with each other. And as we all know, our wts and avadhutas are not to engage in sexual relations – of any kind. Baba has strictly forbidden this.

Baba says, “You will protect yourself from sexual weakness and luxury.” (WT Conduct Rules: Fourteen Points, pt #12)

So their homosexual dealings are a contravention of our Ananda Marga conduct rules. There is no doubt about it.

2) Recently, these two Dadas were caught red-handed while involved in homosexual activity in Patna; so they were temporarily sent back to WT training centre as punishment.

3) Not only are Dada R and Dada H gay lovers, but they are both suspected pedophiles, i.e. they are inclined towards young boys.

WHAT DID THEY DO WITH CHILDREN’S HOME BOYS

4) Recently, Dada Hariyuktananda (Note: This is not the Dada H being referred to in this letter) brought some of his children’s home boys to Ananda Nagar. While they were there, Dada R and Dada H took the charge of overseeing those small kids. They voluntarily took the duty to bath and stay with those young boys. Those two Dadas were spotted taking those young boys for bathing every day in a remote part of Ananda Nagar. They would stay with those young boys day-long, throughout all their activities: bathing, dressing, walking, talking, eating, playing etc. Our duty now is to interview those kids and find out if they were inappropriately touched or not. This matter must be addressed immediately.

STILL GOING ON

5) Still today, both Dada R and Dada H are involved in, at minimum, three basic areas of sexual misconduct:
(a) Together they watch blue (naked) movies on their mobile;
(b) They are still involved in homosexual dealings with each other;
(c) They are both still suspected pedophiles.

6) Some readers may be wondering why Centre allows Dada R and Dada H to continue as Wts. The answer is straight-forward mathematics. It is simply a numbers game. Centre is in need of workers – i.e. almost anyone willing to wear the uniform. That is why Centre overlooks such blatant misconduct. On this matter, be sure to read note 2 that offers an overview of our Wt cadre.

A CALL TO ACTION

7) As we know, most of our Wts are well-intentioned, pious sadhakas. Most want to serve Guru and spread His ideals. Dadas like R & H are mere bad apples amongst a good lot. They are aberrations. Nonetheless, such Dadas of loose character and suspected pedophiles will do much harm if they are not checked. A thorough examination and conduct review must be done of such acaryas.

Namaskar,
Mishra

Note 1: WHO ARE THESE TWO DADAS

In the above letter, Dada R refers to Ac Ragatiitananda Avt, and Dada H refers to Ac Hiteshananda Avt. These are the two avadhutas involved in all the aforementioned behaviours like homosexuality with each other, watching sex movies, and suspected acts of pedophilia.

Note 2: MORE ABOUT OUR WT CADRE

MUST NOT BE NAIVE

Some may be wondering or even astonished by how such Dadas became Wts in the first place – but really it is not all that surprising. Whenever anyone in the regular society has a desire to do something good for humanity, then they might join our AM wt cadre – but that does not mean they are wholly free of other defects. It does not mean that they will lead a charmed and perfect existence. It means that somewhere in their mind they have the desire to do something great.

Think of it this way. So many from the general society enter the ranks of the police, military, or fire department. And once they join then they are bound to follow all related codes of conduct. Some follow and gain success; and some fall and are subject to disciplinary measures etc. That is the way it works. Just because they joined the police force or the fire department is no guarantee that their conduct will then perfectly reflect the code of discipline of the police or fire department. It only means that somewhere in their mind they had a desire to do that type of work. The police agents must follow their code of discipline; if they start engaging in robberies and committing theft, they will be disciplined and taken to task according to departmental rules and regulations.

Same is the case then with those who enter the ranks of Wt life. Our workers come from the general society; they are not second gods who descended from heaven. They are normal people trying to become godly; they are trying to become sadvipras – just like every Ananda Margii. Just because Dadas are in uniform does not mean that indeed they are already second gods – far from it. Our workers come from the general society and are by definition burdened by all kinds of dogmas and weaknesses. If any of our workers fall from the code of conduct and indulges in sexual dealings, then they will be charge-sheeted and disciplinary action will be taken. No doubt, many high-calibre people become AM monks and nuns. At the same time we must understand that not all are like that: Both good and bad people become Wts. That is the way it goes.

Furthermore, we cannot check this flow. There will always be an in-flow of people into AM: Some good and some bad. Any organisation will die if there is not a constant in-flux of new members. Accordingly, the standard of new members will vary. No matter how much pre-screening we attempt to do – always there will be a range: Good and bad. By Baba’s grace those of lesser quality can become stellar by adhering to Sixteen Points. That is also the beauty of our Ananda Marga. At the same time other workers will be prone to fall.

We should adjust our perspective accordingly. We should not think that every WT is by definition a divine being and veritable god. It is not like that. They are normal human beings who may sometimes fail – it happens. And when they do, then disciplinary measures are in order.

The main issue is that nowadays due to an overall shortage of workers and due to groupist politics, those at the helm are not reprimanding those involved in wrongdoing. This has two negative outcomes. First, those bad apples continue on in their degraded ways and cause a lot of harm; secondly, their behaviour reflects poorly on those good, dedicated Wts. So it is a double loss.

In conclusion, our workers come from the general society and represent a wide-range of goodness and badness. Depending upon how sincere they are in adhering to sadhana practices and AM conduct rules, the more (or less) their good qualities will shine forth. So we should always be ready and always be vigilant. Those not up to the standard must be pointed out and rectified. Then our Marga can grow strong and our acarya cadre will continually improve.

Subject: Those Confused About Gay

Baba

== THOSE CONFUSED ABOUT GAY ==

Namaskar,
At present, the various religions – especially Christianity, Judaism, and Islam – are embroiled in a big clash with the gay community.

This letter pointedly addresses how our Ananda Marga is radically different from the religions in this regard.

RELIGION: MEMBERSHIP BY BIRTH

Almost all the major religions hold that those born into their religion are automatically a member of that sect. That means if your parents are Jewish, then you are Jewish; if your parents are Muslim, then you are Muslim etc. It is all based on one’s birth.

Suppose someone is by birth Christian, or Muslim, or Jewish, and due to certain medical problems or hormonal imbalances, that individual is attracted to the same sex upon reaching adolescence. Then that person is going to face tremendous clash from their priests or religious leaders. Because their religion has already taken them to be one of their own. Yet that adolescent is living a life totally contrary to the tenets of their religion. Naturally then, there is going to be a battle.

MEMBERSHIP IN AM IS BASED ON CONDUCT – NOT BIRTH

In Ananda Marga, membership is not based on birth. It is not like the dogmatic religions. This everyone should keep in mind. Membership in AM is based on conduct.

So if you are the son or daughter of an Ananda Margii, it does not mean you are a margii. To be a margii, one must follow the codes of conduct of AM. If your parents are strict Ananda Margiis and follow all aspects of a sentient lifestyle, while you are smoking, drinking, using drugs, eating tamasik food, working in the red light district, doing opposite of your parents, or involved in other activities contrary to our AM way of life, then you are not a margii.

It is similar to the professions: Doctors, drivers, professional athletes, etc. So long as you are involved in that field or trade, then you belong to that profession – otherwise not. It is based on practice, not birth. Being the son of a doctor does not qualify one as being a doctor. Rather one must study, pass the exams, get training, and then practice medicine. Then and only then will one be considered a doctor.

Same is the case with Ananda Marga.

Our AM is based on do’s and don’ts. Those who follow are Ananda Margiis; and, those who don’t are not Ananda Margiis. It is extremely straightforward.

THE ROLE OF SEX IN ANANDA MARGA WAY OF LIFE

In AM, sex is only for procreation. Those thinking of using sex as a means of enjoyment are in the wrong place. AM philosophy does not support this approach.

So if someone by birth has attraction for the same sex, they can be an Ananda Margii so long as they do not engage in sexual relations with the same sex.

Or if someone has sexual attraction towards some animal, then they must adhere to the same formula as noted in the prior examples.

Thus everyone must cultivate discipline in this sphere of life, not just gays and lesbians etc. Many single margiis and LFT’s etc may have attraction toward the opposite sex, but they do not encourage this way of thinking -nor should they indulge in this behavior. Similarly, those prone toward gay relations must step-by-step guide their thinking away from sensual or lustful thoughts. Simply refraining from physical sexual contact is not the goal.

The greater idea is that one should train the mind not to even entertain the desires of those lower propensities and instead divert the mind towards the Supreme. With proper determination and sincerity, naturally one will gain more and more momentum, such that one day the mind is not even hindered by that propensity and truly all one’s mental capacity is channelized toward spiritual sadhana.

Those who think that they can have sexual relations with the same sex and remain as Ananda Margiis are deceiving themselves; or those who think they can indulge in sexual dealing with animals and remain as Ananda Margiis, they are befooling themselves. What they are doing is not part of our AM way of life. Just as we do not consider meat-eaters to be Ananda Margiis, and, just as we do not consider those involved in extra-marital relations to be Ananda Margiis, similarly, we cannot consider those engaging in indulgent sexual activity, like same-sex relations, to be Ananda Margiis. Because their way of living is not consistent with AM ideals. So the matter is very simple.

WE LOVE ALL – BUT ALL ARE NOT ANANDA MARGIIS

So again we should remind ourselves that AM is not based on birth, but rather conduct. Donating money or paying tithes also does not make one an Ananda Margii; the only way to be an Ananda Margii is by one’s day to day dealing. If one cannot follow the conduct of our AM way of life then they are not a margii.

But it does not mean that those who cannot or do not follow are not our brothers and sisters. We love everyone – all humans irrespective of their gender or sexual preference, or any other quality. We love everyone: Diseased persons, healthy persons, serial killers, and sex addicts – all human beings, as well as all kinds of animals and plants. We love all as they are the progeny of Parama Purusa. Parama Purusa loves all but that does not mean that all are Ananda Margiis. To be an Ananda Margii, one must follow the code of conduct. There is no other way.

THE RIGHT AND WRONG PLACE

It is very simple, if someone finds themselves in Ananda Marga yet they want to have same-sex relations, then they should find a different place to be. This Ananda Marga is not for them – such persons are in the wrong place.

Unlike the dogmatic religions, Ananda Marga does not have any dilemma in this regard. Ours is a clear-cut path. There is a dilemma in dogmatic religions because their membership is based on birth. They impose their religious dogma onto those born into their religions. But AM is not like that. It is based on conduct – all are welcome to join or not.

That said, a person can be an Ananda Margii from birth so long as their conduct is appropriate. Side by side, there are many family acaryas whose kids are non-margiis because they do not follow the code of conduct. AMPS does not consider them as Ananda Margiis because their way of life is not consistent with AM ideals.

PATH OF SUPREME BEATITUDE

Ananda Marga is the path of bliss – the path of infinite pleasure. Ananda means infinite pleasure or bliss; and marga means path. By its very name then, the term Ananda Marga denotes that this is the path to follow to reach the place where there is no pain or suffering. The aspirant will be in the abode of infinite pleasure. This infinite pleasure or bliss is not attainable through worldly activities like eating, drinking, sleeping, sexual indulgence etc.

Everything in this material world is limited and ephemeral. One cannot derive lasting pleasure from any worldly object or activity. If one eats and eats, the stomach will become so bloated that one cannot take another bite, but still the mind desires to eat more; it is not satisfied. Same is the case with sexual activities, drug addiction, or any other worldly pleasure. One cannot fulfill their infinite longing through these finite means.

Materialism itself is a faulty philosophy that preaches how one can be satisfied by worldly indulgence. But this is a defective notion. Materialism does not consider or have a clue that human desire is infinite and cannot be satisfied through worldly means. Based on their wrong and defective platform, such materialists support all kinds of dirty activities which destroy the body and mind, such as drinking, smoking, porn and perverted sex, sex with animals, and all kinds of harmful indulgences. Such degrading activities are not only allowed but welcomed in materialism.

Again it should be said: This materialistic philosophy is defective and utopian. The followers are misguided and think that by sex one can achieve infinite pleasure. With that faulty notion, all kinds of dealing like gay relations, prostitution, masturbation, sex with animals, and all kinds of nasty things are permitted in hopes of being satisfied. They believe happiness can be attained by running after finite, selfish pleasures.

But in reality, sane people realise that there is nothing in this worldly sphere that can bring infinite pleasure. No matter how much sex one does, one will never be satiated – always one wants to do more. Same is the case with drinking and drugs etc.

The path of Ananda Marga is totally different. It is based on the understanding that human longing is infinite and can never be satisfied by finite worldly indulgences. Only that infinite Divine Entity can satisfy human longing. That is why in Ananda Marga, our manner is to divert all longing toward the Supreme and ultimately become one with Parama Purusa. We live to please and serve Him and attain permanent peace, and not plunge ourselves in fleeting mundane vices like masturbation, sex with animals, or same-sex relations.

Ours is the path of infinite pleasure where the mind is channelised towards the Supreme.

Everyone should know this very clear-cut guideline. If someone has reached into AM without knowing this then they should think again.

SUMMARY

Essentially there are two key points to bear in mind:

(1) Membership in AM is based on conduct, not birth;

(2) Ours is the path of Supreme Beatitude, not mundane indulgence.

Before siding or taking a stand on this issue of homosexuality (lesbian or gay), one must think on these two points.

Namaskar,
Dhruva

Note 1: VERY STRAIGHTFORWARD

Suppose someone is a member of the bar (law) association: To join one must have a law degree and follow the code of conduct. Not just anyone can join; those not practicing law are not part of the bar association. Furthermore, one must adhere to the ethics and principles of the bar, otherwise they will no longer be part of the bar association.

Same is the case with Ananda Marga: So long as one follows the tenets as given by Baba, then that person is an Ananda Margii, otherwise not.

It is a very straight-forward equation.

Note 2: RESPOND RATIONALLY NOT SENTIMENTALLY

Those who are sane and balanced think in a calm way. Becoming emotional or sentimental is not good. Talking in a highly emotional or irrational way is not the work of an Ananda Margii. It is the work of dogmatic people who are emotionally attached without thinking rationally. Ananda Margiis are rational. So those with emotional attachment for homosexuals (either gays or lesbians) are requested to think rationally. Having attraction for the same-sex is ok (as explained in the above sub-heading: “THE ROLE OF SEX IN ANANDA MARGA WAY OF LIFE”), but this attraction must not be encouraged, neither physically nor mentally. Rather it should be diverted toward spiritual attainment; that desire should be goaded towards Parama Purusa. An ideal widower, or divorcee, or single margii, and those who have taken the vow of celibacy may have instinctual attraction for the opposite sex, but internally they goad their mind toward Parama Purusa. Remember physically indulging in same-sex relations and mentally harboring this desire are both against the AM way of life and detrimental to one’s spiritual growth.

Note 3: FOR GAY AND LGBT

This letter is related with all gay, including LGBT, activities – as well as those those sexually engaged with animals. In Ananda Marga, we love everyone – all humans irrespective of their gender or sexual preference, or any other quality. We love everyone: Diseased persons, healthy persons, serial killers, and sex addicts – all human beings (virtuous, great people; good; and bad), as well as all kinds of animals and plants, even poisonous snakes. We love all as they are the progeny of Parama Purusa.

== RE:HOMOSEXUALITY & ANANDA MARGA ==

Namaskar,
I appreciate the views expressed in the first letter and feel that the stand of our Ananda Marga on homosexuality is very clear.

>So homosexuality runs contrary to the aim of human life, according to our
>AM perspective. When sex is supposed to be only for procreation – that is
>the only time that sex is supported in our AM way of life – then there is
>no logical support whatsoever for the ways of homosexuality / lesbianism,
>where sex is just an “animalistic pleasure-seeking” tool. Ultimately, such
>relations will just lead to one’s degeneration and degradation.

HERE ARE SOME MORE THOUGHTS ON THIS TOPIC

1. SCIENCE OF VRTTIS: We have various propensities such as greed, sleep, hunger, and so many more. If a person increases the number of hours they sleep to the point of indulgence, then their desire for more sleep escalates.

For instance, if a person sleeps 8 hours and increases that to 10 hours, then their desire for sleep will grow more. They may desire to sleep 12 hours. In one discourse, Baba states that a person might increase their sleep so much that they sleep all 24 hrs. The same is the case with food, fear, drinking and all propensities. The more any vritti is encouraged then the more active that vrtti becomes. That is the science of vrttis in Ananda Marga. That is why we must control and channelise lowly propensities like fear and sleep – otherwise those vrittis will envelop us and we will be scared of our own shadow and sleep 24 hrs a day.

Similarly, with regards to sex, one must never encourage this base propensity. That will lead to one’s utter degradation. So when homosexuals again and again give way to their crude animalistic, sexual desires, then that sex vrtti will multiply more and more until it totally consumes one’s entire existence and mental framework. To indulge in this way is to only increase one’s crude desires and degrade the mind.

This applies to heterosexuals as well. If anyone indulges in sex it will bring about their degradation and their mind will be sunk in crudity. That is why Baba guides us that everyone should practice restraint. With that viewpoint in mind, married persons should only engage for society building purposes; while there is no logic or reason for anyone to ever indulge in homosexual behaviours. Rather their glandular system should be rectified through asanas, sadhana and other treatment as needed

2. HOMOSEXUAL LUST CANNOT FULFILL HUMAN DESIRE: Human desires are infinite and they can only be truly satiated through sadhana and reaching Parama Purusa. So even if one indulges in sex 24 hrs a day, then they cannot satisfy their inner human longing. Rather they will smother it and become frustrated and crude. If one wants bliss then sex is the wrong path because you cannot satisfy your infinite desire for spiritual bliss through crude, mundane indulgence like sex.

That is why only fake Ananda Margiis indulge in the sex-centered ways of homosexuality. And it is good that true Ananda Margiis do not at all appreciate homosexuality. Here it should be perfectly clear that sexual indulgence is never the solution – neither for homosexuals nor heterosexuals. All should be encouraged to follow Sixteen Points and strive for spiritual bliss.

3. SUB-HUMANS: Please excuse me for saying this but only those sub-humans who are dominated by animal propensities can lead the life of a homosexual.

4. STRAIGHT FROM ANIMAL LIFE: By viewing the activities, of any human being, you can get an idea how subtle and refined they are and even surmise if they have been through multiple human lives and been on the path of sadhana.

In the case of homosexuality, where one is indulged in sexual indulgence just for satisfying animalistic desires, without the responsibility of society building, we can also make a calculation. Such homosexuals are worse than animals since animals only indulge for purposes of procreation, not due to crude lust. Whereas homosexuals have sex only for carnal pleasure.

For theses reasons and more, this could be their first time in human form. Hence they misutilise the opportunity. Instead of focusing on morality and the Divine, they fall prey to the baser propensities. That is the unfortunate circumstance. We should work hard to help such persons onto the path of true spirituality.

5. NOT APPRECIATED IN AM: There are some homosexuals and lesbians hiding in AMPS, yet in our Ananda Marga the way of life which leads to negative pratisaincara is not accepted. No true Ananda Margii appreciates this lifestyle rather it is totally discouraged.

Here is one of Baba’s all-important teachings on this critical matter.

Baba says, “The essence of blood, when transformed, becomes shukra, and this shukra is food for the brain. In the absence of shukra, or in case of its impaired functioning, the entire constitution may be impaired, the body may become susceptible to disease, and mental and spiritual sa’dhana’ may be impaired. Therefore, [sexual] restraint is a must for every man and woman, because only self-control helps achieve the maximum preservation of shukra.” (Caryacarya-3)

Namaskar,
Mahendra Deva

== HOMOSEXUALITY AND ANANDA MARGA ==

Namaskar,
These days homosexuality is a critical and high-profile social issue. As Ananda Margiis we should know our stand on this poignant matter. By this way we can stand together in one voice and best counsel and educate others.

Of course our way is to support everyone’s growth and development – not to malign homosexuals (i.e. gays and lesbians) as human beings. We respect the existential and human value of everyone. Here the point is to gain clarity on this issue by reviewing the topic in a rational way. Then we can truly help society advance.

ANANDA MARGA’S VIEW OF HOMOSEXUALITY

Each and every action of our human existence is geared towards reaching Parama Purusa. So all our thoughts, words, and deeds are for attaining that Supreme stance. This is what AM ideology preaches and teaches. Those actions which support this ideal are in consonance with AM teaching while those actions which inhibit this ideal we discourage.

POINT OF BIO-PSYCHOLOGY

In His teachings of bio-psychology, Baba specifically guides us how the human body is but a vehicle for moving along the path of spirituality. That is how it is to be used. To support and enhance this process we are not to allow lymph to be converted into semen due to crude sexual allurement, lust, activity etc. Rather we are to maintain a maximum amount of shukra as this aids us in our spiritual journey.

IMPORTANCE OF RESTRAINT

So Ananda Margiis follow this clear-cut pathway by exercising control over these base propensities. That is what Baba guides us to do.

When advising and guiding us on human sexuality, Baba has given the following guideline.

Baba says, “As regards the question of restraint and lack of restraint, the more one practises restraint, the greater will be their well-being.” (Caryacarya-3)

In a nutshell, it can be said that ‘sex for carnal pleasure’ or ‘sex to satisfy one’s animalistic desire’– i.e. just out of lust – is not at all supported by AM. This has no place in our Marga. Even animals do not behave in this way: They indulge in sex only to procreate, not for any other reason.

HOMOSEXUALITY: SEX FOR ANIMAL PLEASURE

But in homosexual & lesbian relations, their entire platform is ‘sex for the sake of sex’– just falling into lust and giving way to one’s animalistic propensities. When there is no possibility of procreation, then there is no rational support for that type of lifestyle. That is the teaching of Ananda Marga philosophy. Seeking true pleasure in this way is like searching for healthy, sentient food in the sewer.

So homosexuality runs contrary to the aim of human life, according to our AM perspective.

So the entire so-called culture of homosexuality runs directly contrary to the lofty tenets of our AM ideological stand.

However, that does not hold any ground in AM; homosexual relations cannot be supported in our Marga.

That is we should neither encourage nor support the practice of homosexuality; but we will certainly aim to help those involved to overcome this manner of living by introducing them to 16 Points and working for their overall growth and development.

Namaskar,
Candra Deva

“Ankhi mele, ceye dekho aja’na’ pathik eseche…” (PS 1550)

Purport:

O’ human beings, behold, look, Baba, the Aja’na’ Pathik [1], has come. With His sweet, charming smile and infinite grace, He is pouring His endless compassion and love unto all. He is showering everyone with His divine blessing. All are getting bathed in His love. O’ brothers and sisters, come hither and see, Baba, the Aja’na’ Pathik has come and He is showering His causeless grace upon all.

Due to His divine arrival and august presence, the darkness which was in the mind has vanished and sent to one far distant place. In the past where there was darkness, one stream of effulgence has come and blossomed in the colour of one rose. By His grace, the mind has become devotional, calm, and peaceful. Baba, the Ajana Pathik has come and showered His grace.

He is so gracious: He is near and dear to everyone. With His infinite love, everyone has a sacred and beloved place in His heart. Parama Purusa lovingly holds each and every being in His bosom. O’ brothers and sisters, do not waste your time running after name and fame, money, prestige, or any other transitory thing. Do not run after mundane longer. Come unto the path of bliss, and fulfill your hopes and aspirations by reaching unto Him. Baba is the Ista– He is the Goal. Only He can quench your infinite thirst with His boundless love. O’ human beings, your life and death– your coming and going– on this earth is dancing in His Cosmic rhythm. Everything is blissful; everyone revolves around Him- nobody is alone. All are an inseparable part of Him. This is His divine liila and ultimately everyone is sure to become one with Him, by His causeless grace…

NOTES TO PRABHAT SAMGIITA #1550:

[1] Aja’na’ Pathik= Aja’na’ means ‘unknown’ and Pathik means ‘divine traveler’. This is the word by word, literal translation. But the inner sense is that Parama Purusa is always moving throughout this vast cosmos and by His special grace He is constantly present with everyone all the time. He is in the Cosmic Nucleus yet at the same time through His ota and prota yoga He is everywhere– carefully watching & lovingly guiding everyone. This unique aspect of His grand Personality is treated as Aja’na’ Pathik. Because He is constantly traveling yet present everywhere. He is in the nucleus as well as throughout this entire expressed universe.

As the Ajana Pathik, Parama Purusa Baba moves and moves and moves. Thus in their devotional approach devotees feel that wherever they go then the Divine Aja’na’ Pathik will always be there to shower His blessing. By His grace, devotees can always get His intimate company & companionship. With this devotional link, by His grace sadhakas understand that Parama Purusa is present everywhere, yet side by side He travels on and on throughout this entire cosmos. Thus He is Aja’na’ Pathik.

Overall the name Aja’na’ Pathik has one special and unique meaning that goes far beyond its literal translation. And in our hearts we A’nanda Ma’rgiis know and feel that Baba is that Aja’na’ Pathik. Indeed in His discourses, in Dharma Samiiksa, and in reporting, in DMC, and in numerous ways Baba has revealed this very fact that He is ever-present and always along with us. Hence He is always moving and wherever we go then He will also be there. Parama Purusa has infinite attributions and one of them is this special quality where He always remains along with us wherever we are in this vast universe. In this way He is known as — Aja’na’ Pathik.

== YOUR GUT FEELING ==

IMPORTANT NOTE ON SCRIPTURE

Namaskar,
A person’s “gut feeling” has a huge impact on how they interact with the world. It is a person’s basic manner of defining themselves and their relations with others.

This gut feeling, more than anything else, affects our social milieu or social climate.

These days the world over is irked by so many ills and difficulties. Various leaders and activists are trying to create change. But the tools they employ – political policies, rules & regulations, police force, military offensives, laws etc – are mostly impotent compared with one’s gut feeling.

This letter explores how our gut feeling on life, a.k.a. social outlook, has the ability to bring both devastation and destruction as well as peace and harmony.

We should understand how our social outlook impacts society, and examine the prevailing social perspective(s) of the day, how it can be changed, and the social outlook of Ananda Marga.

This is perhaps our greatest tool for bringing our human society onto the right path.

ANANDA MARGA:

WHAT IS OUR GUT FEELING?

In various discourses Baba outlines the six factors that most affect the development of our human society. Sometimes these are referred to as the six spokes of the social cycle. Social outlook is the fourth factor.

Baba says, “The fourth one is social outlook. All living creatures in this manifest universe are the children of the same Cosmic Entity. They are the progeny of the same Supreme Progenitor. Naturally they are bound in a thread of fraternal relations. This is the central spirit. A socio-economic theory is of no use but for this fraternal feeling. The implementation of this theory is an impossibility without sa’dhana’.” (AFPS-6)

In our Ananda Marga, our social outlook is based on the principles of neo-humanism. We see everyone on this earth as brother and sister and feel all are part of our universal cosmic family. That is the our gut feeling.

We have developed this outlook by being Ananda Margiis: Studying Baba’s teachings, singing kiirtana, doing sadhana, serving others, and keeping satsaunga etc.

At the same time it has to be noted that the above is our ideal – what we strive for but do not always achieve. Why? Because the prevailing sentiments and philosophy of the land severely influences one’s perspective.

For this reason there is a variance even within Ananda Margiis. Our views on homosexuality differ from one another and even our style of dancing kiirtan differs from one sector to the next. And there are so many other variances. Why? Because even though neo-humanism is our ideal, still people are affected by local ways of doing – including pseudo-culture and social dogmas. This is examined in greater detail further down in this letter.

EVERYBODY HAS THEIR OWN OUTLOOK

Actually, there are so many ways people view the world; all have their own outlook.

Suppose there is a cow. Those from the Semitic religions will choose to eat it; Hindus will refer to it as mother cow and worship it; others will just think it is an ordinary animal and keep it for its milk. This variance occurs because of one’s outlook, or gut feeling. It changes due to local customs and philosophies.

Here is another example.

If an elderly man is walking down the street, then those watching him will view him differently. Some may think he is a burden to society; some may think he is a grandfather; others may think he is decrepit; a sadhaka will think he is the manifestation of Parama Purusa; some may think he is a wealthy retired banker; and still others will think he is totally useless.

Just as there are so many ways of looking at the elderly man and the aforementioned cow, there are also various perspectives of viewing the world.

FOR THE REST OF THE WORLD:

WHERE DOES GUT FEELING COME FROM

As noted above, as Ananda Margiis, we basically view the world according to the eyes of neo-humanism. But not everyone else operates from this perspective.

Around the globe, people develop their own outlook from their various interactions and institutions: materialism, capitalism, Christianity, Buddhism, etc.

Those in the Semitic religions view the world as their playground, wherein everything has been placed on this earth by their god for their own enjoyment. To that end, they have license to do anything and everything.

Baba says, “At one time people were told that this world is for human enjoyment only, so the existence of all the plants, of all the birds and animals, in the world is intended merely to provide objects of enjoyment for human beings. Their hopes and aspirations, their intense desire to live, their pains and pleasures, their affectionate family or community lives are simply without value. However much a baby goat may wish to live, the main consideration is how much meat that [goat] carries on its frame. This defective philosophy has made people ruthlessly violent.” (NSS, Disc: 14)

Hence, a Muslim will kill a goat without hesitation – they will be eager to do so. As easily as we Ananda Margiis will say namaskar to one another, such Muslims will cut the throat of a goat. Because that is their way of doing. And indeed most of the dogmatic religions have their animal of choice to kill and eat.

And of course some within those religions feel that only they have the right to live on this earth.

Baba says, “Some philosophies have taught their own [religious or caste] communities, “The members of this community are the favourite children of Parama Purus’a – others are cursed and unwanted.” Due to this defective teaching the people of one community have even considered the destruction of the members of another community as an act of virtue, and stained the stony altar of human society with the blood of innocent people.” (NSS, Disc: 14)

Thus due to their outlook, human groups can enslave, attack and kill one another. The whole concept of jihad is based on one’s social outlook. That is their motivating factor. They are internally convinced of the need to lash out in the name of their religion, regardless of any laws or legalities that state otherwise. Hence the rash of car bombings, vicious attacks, militant training camps, and suicide bombers etc that we see today.

Religion alone however is not the sole culprit in this equation.

In the materialistic and capitalistic west, selfishness and the exploiter-exploited relation run rampant. The US & Co think the world’s entire resources are meant to sustain their way of life and that those who go to the US, as well as those living overseas, should became the labor force for the US economic machinery. This outlook is most common in the west. By this way, millions and millions become living skeletons as the wealthy westerners fatten themselves to no end.

So each and every land, belief system and community has their designated outlook. And that outlook or gut feeling, more than anything else, affects how they behave in the world. This has caused untold suffering, depravity, and violence on this earth.

MORE POWERFUL THAN LAWS & LEGAL STATUTES

The import of one’s inherent gut feeling is not to be minimized. Laws, social policies, court injunctions, and political decrees all pale in comparison to one’s gut feeling.

Drugs may be illegal, yet certain sections of society chase after those illegal substances as those are part of their sub-culture. The same can be said of prostitution, gang violence, white collar crime like insider trading on Wall Street, and so many other actions. Those things may be illegal etc, but people chase after it anyway. Because that is what they see around them and that is what they have learned how to do.

Hence, social outlook – more than any other pillar in society – influences one’s mode of conduct.

WHY REGIONAL VARIANCE

We have to remember that social outlook varies from place to place even within the same social or religious group. Because people’s thoughts are affected by the prevailing philosophy and atmosphere of that region.

Baba says, “Just as individual human beings have their distinctive characteristics, similarly, groups of people brought up in various geographical environments, historical eras, or cultural atmospheres, acquire their own group characteristics, too. Later those characteristics inherent in a particular group get mixed with the internal thoughts and ideas of other groups within a society. This leads to the development of national characteristics. In this way an entire national psychology – its external behaviour, its social outlook, and its philosophy of life – is developed. This process produces different national outlooks which distinguish one nation from another. It is also in this way that different human groups have developed different viewpoints towards life and the world.” (AFPS-6)

Thus people are dramatically affected by the vibration and customs of their local area.

This accounts for why a secular person in India is quite different from a secular person in the US as the person in India has grown up in a land where God is everything. That is why even communists cadres in Bengal go to the temple and pray, whereas in Cuba they will never do like that. Because the prevailing philosophy is the subterranean flow of that land
and that colors one’s mind.

That also accounts for the dramatic differences amongst Ananda Margiis. We have our stated philosophy yet margiis are also coloured by their locale.

For instance, AM does not support the practice of homosexuality. Yet, gay and lesbian way of life has been wholly embraced by certain margiis in some sectors like Suva, because the general society has rallied around that dogma. The margiis became dyed in that colour. Whereas in Delhi sector the margiis hold firm to our AM ideal, partly because homosexuality itself is not openly supported by the general populace of India. Hence there is a variance between margiis in different sectors. Because the social climate is vastly different in those lands and that causes people to stray from AM teachings as their own social outlook is different.

Here is another example.

In India, males and females dance kiirtan separately whereas in Berlin, GT and NY sectors, males and females will mix themselves up and even brush up against each other during those akhanda kiirtan programs. Even though AM preaches the strict separation of the sexes, this facet gets lost in our own kiirtan programs as people in those lands are used to open mingling between the opposite sex. Hence the intermingling of the sexes has been incorporated in the style of kiirtan.

And there are so many examples of this variance in our Marga. Everything from how people observe shradda of the deceased person to marriage making to groupism. Sometimes overseas margiis are more inclined to AM ideals and sometimes Indian margiis. It depends on the issue.

Baba has delineated everything in His teachings, but people drift away because their mind has been coloured by the gospel of their own land. In AM we do not believe in pre-marital sex. And in India this is not a difficult custom to uphold whereas in the west, dating is the way of the world and to some degree this has consumed Ananda Margiis as well.

Baba has also given that there should be coordinated cooperation between wholetimers and family people, yet due to the dogma of sannyasi supremacy in India, our Wts have curtailed the rights of margiis and squashed the margii side of the organisation. Why? Because the social outlook or gut feeling of those Wts was tainted by the prevailing ways
of their land.

With strictness in Sixteen Points, this variance can be overcome. To the degree one is lax in Sixteen Points is the degree to which they will drift away from AM ideals and be influenced by the prevailing dogmas of their local arena.

We should all be most careful in this regard.

PREACH THE GOSPEL OF NEO-HUMANISM

There is so much struggle and strife in this world and most of it is caused by one’s limited or defective social outlook. If one’s gut feeling is changed, then everything is changed. We should be vigilant to spread the ideals of neo-humanism and implement that in our own lives as well.

Baba says, “Human beings should base their lives on an ideology. Those without an ideology do not view the world rationally or benevolently, but view it with the greedy eye of an exploiter. However, those who follow the guiding principles of a radiant ideology, can better view and judge the world. In order to prevent human degradation, ideology is indispensable. The earlier one embraces an ideology, the better it is because first, sufficient time is needed to assimilate the ideology and second, one can never say with certainty how long one will live – many people die in the prime of life.” (AV-7)

Thus the only way to inculcated a truly neo-humanistic perspective is to implement all the teachings of Ananda Marga – and do so as soon as possible.

Here again is Baba’s stated guideline.

Baba says, “One should follow an ideology which encourages the development of a universal outlook. It should not be based on narrow ideas. In the past, ideologies were based on very limited ideas and thus people had to undergo endless troubles. Due to constant fighting between various communities, the human society has suffered tremendously.” (AV-7)

We all know how the philosophies of old have led to much bloodshed and continue to mar society today. Only the vast psychic enterprise of neo-humanism can bridge this divide. Only neo-humanism can unite all Ananda Margiis and the whole human society.

We should all be critically aware of our own gut feeling and ensure it is aligned with AM teachings, and not any local dogma. This takes a most careful and honest review, otherwise we will think we are perfectly following AM when in fact our outlook is different in certain ways. For help on this, we should all consult senior margiis and acaryas whom we trust, otherwise it is not easy to free oneself from the local trends & wholly adopt AM ideals.

BABA’S BLESSING

By Baba’s grace, when one’s gut feeling is aligned with Baba’s teachings on neo-humanism, then the devastation and destruction of the world will be gone and all will wake up in a world governed by peace and prosperity and the desire to serve the Supreme.

Baba says, “We have taught people to think about how such-and-such bomb can annihilate so many millions of people at a time – but we have never propagated a philosophy to teach them to think how millions of people could be benefited by psycho-spiritual practices. Thus human beings of today are following a defective path, and there is a desperate need for a change in direction. The only remedy is Neohumanism.” (NH-LOI, Disc: 11)

Namaskar,
Jiivendra

*********************************************
“Not Audible” is A Better Approach

Baba says, “And in case of luminous bodies, known as “deva-yoni” in Sam’skrta – Yaks’a, Raks’a, Gandharva, Vidya’dhara, Kinnara, Prakrtiliina, Videhiiliina – they can not be conceived even by mind and some time when they fiddle down to the scope of sensory organs, people may see them for a short while.” (AV-2, 2004 Edn, p.39)

Note: In the above passage printed in A’nanda Vacanamrtam part 2, the Publications personnel wrote the phrase “fiddle down”. But if anyone reads the sentence carefully they can easily see that the phrase “fiddle down” does not fit properly in the sentence– it does not make any sense. The reason why is that that is not what Baba actually spoke that day. Baba did not say “filter down”; rather Baba said “fiddle down”. But those in the Publications Department transcribing the discourse could not properly understand what Baba said. And instead of simply admitting that they could not properly discern what Baba said, they just made up something that seemed close. Hence they inserted the nonsensical phrase “fiddle down”.

Needless to say this type of working style is totally irresponsible. Because Baba’s books are sacred texts for the humanity and those in Publications should not merely guess at what they think they heard Baba say. But that is what they did in this circumstance. They merely guessed; and the result is that what they wrote does not have any meaning. It is
totally ridiculous sounding. Any balanced-minded person can certainly understand that “fiddle down” does not make any sense in this sentence– nor in any sentence. Because those two words– “fiddle down”– are not meant to go together. That is why the whole sentence is just ridiculous.

But even then those in the Publications Department did not pay heed. Just in their loose way they published it like that– “fiddle down”. When that was not at all what Baba said. His actual words were “filter down”. So this is the blunder that was made to Baba’s divine discourse.

To put forth a solution, if those in Publications are unsure of a word or phrase, then they should simply write that such-and-such phrase was “inaudible” or “unclear”. Clearly noting that they could not understand something is far better than inventing their own fake words or stupid phrases and inserting them in Baba’s discourse. This defective approach of making up fake words just misleads readers. So best is if those in Publications can just admit that they could not understand a word or phrase, and then mark that by writing “inaudible” etc. Then there will not be such and mess in our AM books and furthermore then those in Publications will not smear their name by indulging in senseless work.

Beyond that, what more be said other than Baba’s books contain His eternal, divine teachings. So the publication of His books should not be taken lightly or done in a haphazard manner. Putting Baba’s discourses into book form is a very noble and great endeavour so we should be sure not to allow incompetent persons join our AMPS Publications Department.

Baba

== BOGUS LOGIC ==

Namaskar,
People often think that if they have logic on their side – then everything is well and fine. Then they feel that their stance is justified and correct. However, this needs our special consideration.

EVERYBODY HAS THEIR LOGIC

The Sanskrit word “yukti” means logic. The root “yuj” means to unite. And when one unites themselves with a particular thought process, that is their logic. However, such logic can be right or wrong. Because, everyone has their logic – even those on opposite sides of the same issue.

For instance, pro-choice advocates and anti-abortion activists both have their logic. Pro-choice’ers say that a woman has a right to make a decision about her body and that there is no loss of human life whereas right-to-lifers argue that one cannot kill a human life yet abortion does just that. So both sides have their own logic – and the debate roars ahead in that way.

Another hot topic is gay marriage. Those for it proclaim that every human being has the right to marry while those opposed say that marriage is to be done only between a man and a woman. Here again, both sides have their logic.

Likewise, politicians “on opposite sides of the aisle” have their own logic about issues from health care to the economy. Meat eaters and vegetarians have their logic. Convicted criminals and court justices both have their logic. Everybody has their logic.

In the aforementioned cases, both parties are not correct. One may be correct or neither may be correct. It depends. Yet both have their favoured logic on the very same issue.

Here the point is that logic can lead one to the wrong answer. Period. So we have to be careful – logic itself is not to be trusted 100% – we must ensure that our quest for truth goes beyond simple logic.

SAME PROBLEM IN AMPS

At present we have similar issues in AMPS. There are topics on the table for review, and various parties have their logic. So on any given issue – court cases, land disputes, book rights etc – each of the groups has their chosen logic. They all have their ground to stand on, claiming their view or logic to be correct. To escape this predicament – to follow the path of dharma – we have to then go beyond just plain logic.

A CASE IN POINT: MAHAPRAYAN

The main problem is that logic can be formulated around any group, party, or personal interest.

Let’s take the case of mahaprayan. If we were to walk into the Tiljala campus, then they can give all kinds of logic as to the importance of mahaprayan. Because their desire is to earn money, make Kolkata the epicenter of AMPS life, and enhance their group prestige etc. For all these reasons and more, they have huge interest in making mahaprayan a success. They may even say that Baba is gone because we do not see Him with our crude eyes anymore. So they have all kinds of logic; and, more about this particular point is addressed in the next subheading.

Yet we all know mahaprayan to be a dogma. Baba is with us in our hearts, yet they proclaim Baba is gone because they want to build up their so-called Mahaprayan program.

Such is the problem with logic. Thus we need to ensure that logic is not just based on private interests, but rather represents universal welfare and spiritual values, i.e. sarva jana hitaya. Then that logic will lead to the proper answer, otherwise not. In case of the latter, it will just be bogus logic, nothing more.

For instance, Baba Himself has said that: 1) Parama Purusa is everywhere and in everything;

Baba says, ‘There is no place which is inaccessible to Him. If a person is at a particular place and has to move to some other place, he will have to travel. But the Lord is everywhere, and He in reality does not have to move. In other words, He has so many feet that He is able to reach any place and be available at all places at all times.” (AV-30)

2) Parama Purusa is timeless;

Baba says, “The one formless, beginningless and infinite Parama Brahma (Supreme Consciousness) is the only entity to be attained by living beings – That alone is Jagat Guru (the Supreme preceptor), That alone has revealed Brahmavidya’ (intuitional science) to us through the medium of the name and form of Anandamu’rtijii. Unit beings must be made to appreciate Its majesty.” (CC-2)

3) Parama Purusa always resides in our heart;

Baba says, ” When you are established in devotion, you get Parama’tma’ too. Then you will experience yourselves that Parama’tma’ is seated in your heart, you will not have to go elsewhere in search of Him.” (SS-19)

4) In addition, Baba has outlined all the needed celebrations in our Marga and in no place did He mention that mahaprayan should be celebrated. Rather He specifically warned against observing mahaprayan.

http://am-global-01.blogspot.com/2011/09/story-baba-told-not-to-do-fake.html

Thus for any logic to be correct on the issue of mahaprayan, then it must be in keeping and consistent with Baba’s above teachings. It must be in concert with apta vakya, i.e. the eternal truths as given by Baba.

But the dogma of mahaprayan runs totally contrary to all of Baba’s stated principles. The groupist mahaprayan celebration mandates that Baba is gone forever. That is their position. In contrast, in countless discourses Baba says that He is always with us.

Both stands cannot be correct.

Since Baba’s every word is supreme truth and by definition apta vakya, then that must be accepted and any other logic discarded. In that case, all sincere Ananda Margiis will adhere to Baba’s dharmic teachings and not listen to any other groupist logic in favour of observing the dogma of mahaprayan. Because the logic in favour of mahaprayan is just bogus logic guided by group and party interest, separate from the truth of universal welfare.

LOGIC LIKE MPD BASED ON SENSE PERCEPTION

Relative logic is based on sense perception: what one learns from the world using their eyes, nose, ears, tongue, and hands etc. This is by definition limited and mistake prone. Various groupists saw Baba with their crude eyes and then when their crude eyes could no longer see Baba, they declared that He is gone, and voila – mahaprayan.

So their dogmatic logic of mahaprayan is based on their crude sense perception. So we should never get trapped by this materialistic approach. Day in and day out people are led in the wrong direction by sense perception.

Baba says, “Whatever people say they “know” about an object is only their sense perception, and not real knowledge. And that sense perception remains unsubstantiated.” (AMIWL-8)

Those then who claim that Baba is gone and give their logic of mahaprayan are totally misguided, fooled and blinded by the limitations of their crude sense experience. Sadhakas of the Marga should instead rely on more subtle ways of knowing. Guided by intuition and devotion, such bhaktas can feel in their heart that Baba is there. In that case, how can one claim that He is gone.

That is why no true Ananda Margii follows the dogma of mahaprayan. The dogma of mahaprayan(MPD) is nothing but the brainchild of those leaders who got swayed by their own petty interest and limited sense experience. Such is their condition. And indeed when their logic for MPD is measured against the touchstone of divine truth and realisation, then very quickly their logic falls on its face and is proven totally false.

BOGUS LOGIC: MANY SUCH EXAMPLES

To get the truth, logic must be grounded in rationality, universal welfare and spiritual sentiment. Then that logic will lead one in the right direction.

Unfortunately now in AMPS, each and every group has their own distinct logic, i.e. bogus logic. It is not just that ne team that suffers from this syndrome with regards to the dogma of mahaprayan. Any individual sympathetic or aligned with any group will give their phony logic based on narrow sentiments. That is the nature of groupism.

1. There are some who will give tons of logic how it was appropriate to change the by-laws in NY sector. Such persons are not guided by any welfare motive, but rather by their own group sentiment.

2. There are some who will detail with all kinds of logic how expulsion is a needed and proper tool for keeping our Marga clean. But such logicians are just guided by their personal desire for power etc. That is the basis of their bogus logic, not AM teachings.

3. And there are people who will justify all kinds of things: Fake Ananda Vaniis, scripture distortion, eradication of margii rights, fake BP manual etc. There is no end to their logic. But such logic is not correct and not in accordance with the dharma of AM. Their views are just the outcome of group sentiment etc.

In each and every case, on each and every issue, we have to see if a particular view is based on rationality and represents universal well-being, i.e. sarva jana hitaya. Then and only then can it be accepted as proper and true. Then that logic is beneficial. We should never be swayed by the logic of groupists. Theirs is just bogus logic and will not lead one along the path of welfare.

FATE OF GROUPISTS IS NOT GOOD

If a person ideates on Parama Purusa and takes His teachings to be true, then that sadhaka will merge in Him and be one with AM ideology, in thought, word, and deed. There will not be any difference. But if one gets glued to groupist logic, then one will stray far from the universal values of AM and become permanently plastered to their group. They will bind themselves to the dogmatic logic of group sentiment. That will be their miserable fate. And there will be no escape. No one should meet such an ugly destiny. The only way to save oneself is to wholly divorce oneself from the logic of all groupist policies like the dogma of mahaprayan and instead follow the great teachings of Parama Purusa in the form of AM ideology. Then one’s position in life is safe and secure. Then one will float in His bliss, otherwise not.

BABA’S BLESSING

By Baba’s grace He has given us perfect and pure teachings in all the realms of life. His ideology will lead us to the goal. One should keep all groupist logic – i.e. bogus logic – off to the side, or better yet in the trash bin. We should only follow His teachings, the ideology of Ananda Marga – the path of divine intuition.

Baba says, “Logic is a psychic survey. Such a survey may or may not be correct, therefore it is futile to follow logic blindly… This psychic survey, embedded in relativity, may or may not be correct. Intuitional vision is the best logic. Intuitional vision should be your guiding ideology.” (PNS-15)

Namaskar,
Satiish

Note 1: WHOSE LEGACY IS MORE DANGEROUS

It is worth taking a moment to compare the (mis)deeds of both Rudrananda and Sarvatmananda as it gives deep insight as to how to prevent our AM society from further harm.

Essentially, Rudrananda is after power and he has done some nasty things – no doubt. But when his time on this earth expires, “Rudranandaism” will be gone. His negative legacy will be nil, i.e. not long lasting. Because he has only chased after post and power for himself and after his time on this earth that chase will be done, without any real lingering effects. Of course, here we are not wishing or waiting for anyone’s expiration, rather our aim is their rectification.

So the above is a mere analysis, nothing more.

Then there is Sarvatmananda. In stark contrast, his actions will have a long(er) lasting effect and will probably stand for some time after his life terminates. Why? Because “Sarvatmanandaism” is focused on systemic manipulation of organisation and ideology, not just his personal lust for power. Sarvatmananda also has the goal of Bangalisation & WT superiority.

To that end he has ruined the BP Manual, invented Fake Ananda Vaniis, founded the dogma of Mahaprayan, ruined countless Hindi and English discourses, invented expulsion as a weapon, eradicated the ACB, and indulged in countless other horrific activities.

That is why Sarvatmananda’s “legacy” will be far worse than that of Rudrananda. It will take time and effort to clean-up the mess made by Sarvatmananda whereas the dirt created by Rudrananda will get swept away at the time of his own death. That is the chief difference between the two.

On personal basis, I have no ill will against either of these Dadas, rather I think fondly of them as my elder brothers. Only my comments refer to the repercussions of their misdeeds. We should be cent-per-cent vigilant not to let anyone distort or change Baba’s eternal guidelines. In this critical time, that is our main duty: To keep Guru’s teachings in tact.

PRABHAT SAMGIITA

“Pratham jiivane, tumi a’so niko, ta’r la’gi, mane kono klesh na’i…” (PS 379)

Purport:

Baba, You did not come close to me in the dawn of my life; but I do not have any agony in my mind about why You did not bring me under Your shelter that time– why You did not come close to me and become very intimate. For that I do not have any mental anguish or suffering. But I do have repentance in my heart for why I did not search You that time. That is why my heart is burning and crying all the time. The fault is mine that in my early years I did not search You. For that I have deep remorse. Baba, that time You were so close to me– living side by side, always. Even then I did not call You or try to search for You by learning sadhana. I did not care about that back then. Just my days and nights passed in vain, doing various useless pursuits that time in the early stage of my life. Yet, now in the twilight of my life, the more those early remembrances sprout in mind, the more pain I feel. Baba, by Your grace everyone comes onto this earth for a short span of time, for a calculated period. And there are so many works to do. Yet fruitlessly people waste their time blaming God for their misfortunes– but there is no benefit in this. Because everyone is facing their own samskara. When they remove the umbrella of vanity, they will realise that Your grace is showering eternally. Baba, You are ever gracious; what You do is best for me. My only desire is to always remain under Your shelter…

Colourful Future

Baba says, “As life becomes increasingly easy, there will be greater opportunities for intellectual pursuits. A day will come when there will be hardly any need for human beings to work. This may sound strange today and perhaps we might not like to hear such a thing, but that day will surely come. Physicality will be transformed into more and more intellectuality, and intellectuality will be transformed into the culminating point of spirituality.” (PNS-17, p.36)

== TWO STORIES ==

Namaskar,

I looked at the caller ID on my phone and saw it was Dada calling back again. I was wondering what he wanted as I thought we had finalized our plans for pracara at the college.

“Namaskar”, I said.

Dada replied, “Cancel the pracara program at the college. I can’t go there I will be attending an LGBT party.”

“What? Where?” I replied.

“Don’t you know, there is a big party sponsored by LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual). I want to attend that.”

I said, “Dada, are you joking. We do not attend such big parties by LGBT.”

Dada said, “Do not be so outdated. Ananda Marga does not believe that monks should remain in caves; this world for enjoyment.”

I told Dada, “That is 100% against our conduct rules. We cannot go there and do that.”

Then Dada told me that I was off-based and that I did not understand. I tried to convince him but after a long talk I could not.

I did not know what to do.

I thought for a moment and then phoned another Dada. I quickly briefed him of the situation.

He said, “Look here. Our Ananda Marga society is dynamic and includes all. Going to a gay party is not a big deal. If he wants, let him go. It is fine to participate fully in such a party. We are getting many new people this way.”

Dada further replied, “Do not become old, outdated and stale. There is nothing wrong with alcohol and drugs either.”

I said, “Are these not against our conduct rules as given in Caryacarya, Avadhuta conduct rules, and Organisational / Procedural Orders.”

Dada said, “Why are you living in the past – throw away those old things. Those codes given by Baba are half-a-century old, they must be changed according to the times. That is what Baba has said. So we will be updating and amending all those old rules. This is a new era.”

“Remember, we are not Catholics who live in the dark ages. We are revolutionaries. We change with the times. Our avadhuta order is going to change. Soon all avadhutas will start marrying. There is no need for celibacy.”

“In this modern era, all these conduct rules as given in Caryacarya, Avadhuta conduct rules, and Organisational / Procedural Orders etc are to be changed because they are outdated.”

After hearing his lecture I was left speechless…

Just I am curious: In order to satisfy their baser vrttis some want to change Caryacarya, and our Organisational / Procedural Orders etc. Are such events happening in your area also?

Namaskar,

Jayanta

BABA

“A’mi pather hadish pa’i ni, ta’i toma’r pa’ne cali ni…” (PS 1338)

Purport:

Baba, in the past I did not get the direction of the proper path.
Because of that I could not come close to You. Your and my relation was
hidden in dark. I was not aware about You. In that past I could not get
Your introduction. And I could not link up in our close intimate
relation which, in reality, has been going on since a very long time.

In my misunderstanding, I was thinking that nobody is mine, and that
to feel love and affection is not my fate. I was thinking that my life
does not have any value. That I will not get respect in my life, just it
will be filled with disrespect and neglect.

Baba, today You have blessed me and changed everything. Now I feel
that my life has become meaningful, because You are mine. My heart is
filled with Your love. Baba, by Your grace I surrender at Your lotus
feet, O’ Baba…

== WHY HOMOSEXUALITY IS AGAINST AM TEACHINGS ==

Namaskar,
Just today, the state of California overturned its prior judgment
and has now legalised same-sex marriage. That means that gay men may
marry gay men and that lesbian women may marry lesbian women.
Homosexual marriage is now legal in California. In technical terms,
Proposition 8 has been repealed.

Various so-called liberals and “progressives” are cheering this decision –
as well as the gay community. But in Ananda Marga, this is not a ruling
that we support.

Of course our way is not to malign homosexuals (i.e. gays and lesbians) as
human beings, only our approach is that we do not support this type
of lifestyle. So our dual aim is to oppose this defective style of living
and at the same time help those involved to rectify their behaviour and
cure them of any glandular defects, if applicable. We are to teach them
sadhana and 16 Points and that will certainly lead them on the right path.

Here then is more about this entire topic.

OUR OVERALL VIEW

Each and every action of our human existence is geared towards reaching
Parama Purusa. So all our thoughts, words, and deeds are aimed towards
attaining that Supreme stance. This is what AM ideology preaches and
teaches. Those actions which support this ideal are in consonance with
AM teaching while those actions which inhibit this ideal we discourage.

POINT OF BIO-PSYCHOLOGY

Furthermore, in His teachings of bio-psychology, Baba specifically
guides us how the human body is but a vehicle for moving along the path
of spirituality. That is how it is to be used. And to support and
enhance this process we are not to allow lymph to be converted into
semen due to crude sexual allurement, lust, activity etc. Rather we are
to maintain a maximum amount of shukra as this aids us in our spiritual
journey.

IMPORTANCE OF RESTRAINT

So Ananda Margiis follow this clear-cut pathway by exercising control
over these base propensities. That is what Baba guides us to do.

Baba says, “As regards the question of restraint and lack of restraint,
the more one practises restraint, the greater will be their well-being.”
(CC-3)

In a nutshell, it can be said that ‘sex for sex sake’– i.e. just to
satisfy one’s lustful desires– is not at all supported by AM. This has
no place in our Marga.

HOMOSEXUALITY: ‘SEX FOR SEX SAKE’

But in homosexual & lesbian relations, their entire platform is ‘sex for
the sake of sex’– just falling into lust and giving way to one’s animal
propensities. Because when there is no possibility of procreation, then
there is no support for that type of crude lifestyle.

So homosexuality is nothing but a misuse of one’s human life. And indeed
when sex is supposed to be only for procreation– that is the only time
that sex is supported in our AM way of life– then there is no logical
support whatsoever for the crude ways of homosexuality / lesbianism,
where sex is just an “animalistic pleasure-seeking” tool. Ultimately,
such relations will just lead to one’s complete degeneration and
veritable destruction.

So the entire so-called culture of homosexuality runs directly contrary
to the lofty tenets of our AM ideological stand. Because homosexual and
lesbian relations are just based on crude sexual expression– nothing
more. Thus, as much as some confused persons may try to justify the
matter, homosexual relations have no greater point than that–
animalistic sex. And there is 0% scope for such relations in our Marga.

HERE ARE SOME MORE THOUGHTS ON THIS TOPIC

1. SCIENCE OF VRTTIS: The whole science of the vrittis is based on the
concept that the more any vritti is encouraged then the more active that
vritti becomes. Thus when homosexuals again and again give way to their
crude animalistic, sexual desires, then that sex vritti will just
multiply more and more until it totally consumes one’s entire existence
and mental framework. That is why we must control and channelise lowly
propensites like fear and sleep– otherwise we will be scared of our own
shadow and sleep 24 hrs a day. Similarly with regards to sex, one must
never encourage such base propensities– like sexual lust — as
homosexuals do. That will lead to one’s utter degradation.

2. SUB-HUMANS: Only those sub-humans who are dominated by animal
propensities can lead the life of a homosexual.

3. STRAIGHT FROM ANIMAL LIFE: By their activities, it is evident that
homosexuals have come directly from animal life– this is their first
time having a human body. That is why they misutilise it.

4. NOT APPRECIATED IN AM: There are some homosexuals and lesbians in
AMPS, but no true Ananda Margii appreciates this lowly lifestyle rather
it is totally discouraged.

5. HOMOSEXUAL LUST CANNOT FULFILL HUMAN DESIRE: Human desires are
infinite and they can only be truly satiated through sadhana and
reaching Parama Purusa. So even if one indulges in sex 24 hrs a day,
then they cannot satisfy their inner human longing. Rather they will
smother it and become frustrated and crude. That is why only fake Ananda
Margiis indulge in the sex-centered ways of homosexuality. And it is
good that true Ananda Margiis do not at all appreciate homosexuality.

6. NO POST IN AM: In AM, we are not to give any social status or
recognition to homosexuals etc. Such persons must never be allowed to
become bhukti pradhan or hold any post in the Marga.

7. HELP CURE THEM: Our main duty is to help cure homosexuals and
lesbians of their disease & lustful ways. We must goad them along the
dictates of human dharma.

8. DHARMA SAMIIKSA: In Dharma Samiiksa, Baba was very strict and harshly
punished any who indulged in masturbation etc as this was just a blatant
misuse of lymph. And Baba would just scold and beat such persons, and
brand them as ‘Animals!’. Homosexuality is also a blatant waste of one’s
lymph etc.

9. POINT OF MARRIED LIFE: Marriage is for child rearing only– not
sexual lust etc. So when homosexuality is only based on sexual lust,
then who can say it has a place in AM. It does not.

10. THOUSANDS OF POINTS: And if one thinks just a little bit, they will
come up with huge numbers of reasons why homosexuality goes against
‘naturalness of life’ and has no place in AM society.

BABA’S BLESSING

When anyone is stuck in the throes of crudity, like homosexuality, then
it is our duty to help them reverse this negative trend. By Baba’s grace
we will be able to bring all onto the path of sadhana, thereby elevating
the fallen.

Baba says, “The cure is to reverse the trend of behaviour to rid the
fallen human beings of narrow-mindedness. The medicine is one and only
one: Brahmabha’va [ideation on Supreme Consciousness].” (AV-31)

Namaskar,
Mahendra

Note 2: BABA’S WARNINGS ON THE PRESERVATION OF SHUKRA

Here are a few of Baba’s all-important teachings on this critical matter.

Baba says, “The essence of blood, when transformed, becomes shukra, and
this shukra is food for the brain. In the absence of shukra, or in case
of its impaired functioning, the entire constitution may be impaired,
the body may become susceptible to disease, and mental and spiritual
sa’dhana’ may be impaired. Therefore, restraint is a must for every man
and woman, because only self-control helps achieve the maximum
preservation of shukra.” (CC-3)

Baba says, “Pervasive waste of shukra, the most essential element of the
body, causes all the organs of the body to become weak. It is shukra
that nourishes all the brain cells and nerves. Therefore, too much loss
of shukra makes the brain weak; the memory becomes short; in adolescence
one becomes mentally old; one suffers from palpitation in the chest for
no reason; and courage and spiritedness are lost.” (YT)

***************************************
Mister or Shrii

Baba says, “The Samskrta word Shrii means ‘the most charming personality’.
The word ‘shrii’ is derived from sha + ra + uniis. ‘Sha’ is the acoustic
root of the mutative principle, and ‘ra’ is the acoustic root of energy.
With the help of these two things, ‘sha’ plus ‘ra’, human beings are
moving, dancing, speaking, and doing so many things. Obviously they need
‘sha’ and ‘ra’ very much. The Supreme abode of ‘shrii’ is Parama Purus’a.”
(SS-12, p.4)

Note: In this above quote, Baba is describing the meaning of ‘Shrii’ so
that we can understand why we call Him ‘Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji’– not
‘Mr. Anandamurtiji’. Naturally in our life we should then address Him in
the way which He likes to be called.
However, because of their dogmatic beliefs, some jinanis prefer the term
‘Mister Sarkar’ or even just plain ‘Sarkar’ instead of ‘Shrii’. In that
case we should gently try to make them aware about their dogma.

The central idea is that ‘Shrii’ is a very meaningful term and we should
not only use this when addressing our Beloved Guru, but everyone should use
the term ‘Shrii’ before their own name as well. This is Baba’s direct
teaching.

Baba

PS Intro: This following Prabhat Samgiita is a melancholic song – the
bhakta has a deep yearning to receive Parama Purusa in a more intimate
way. Those who have not fallen in love with Him may not understand this
feeling. In that case one may mistakenly think this song is too harsh in
its expression towards Parama Purusa. But in the world of divine love,
this is all quite natural. The bhakta wants Parama Purusa extremely
close so when he does not get what he wants then this type of loving
accusation and playful interaction occurs. All because the bhakta has a
bond of love with Parama Purusa. So the accusation placed is not harsh,
but just the sweet longing of not getting Him as closely as one feels.
In worldly love, this type of longing can occur between the baby and its
mother, if they have a sweet relation. You may have seen how the child
will carry on if the mother is absent, because the baby wants her to be
close. Similar feelings the bhakta has for Parama Purusa. Those who do
not have that type of deep love for Him will not feel comfortable
accusing Him in a loving way. The below song is based on a deeply
intimate and loving relation between the bhatka and Parama Purusa.

“Toma’r la’gi kato vytha’, tumi ta’ha’r khon’ja ra’kheno na’…” (PS 345)

Purport:

Baba, do You know how much longing I feel for You? You do not
understand the pain of my heart. If You did understand You would come
close. Instead You just always keep Yourself engaged in the great works
of this vast universe. You never listen to the painful stories and
suffering of this lowly being.

Baba, now in my mental forest, I will collect flowers for You and
weave a magnificent garland to offer You. I will see whether You accept
my humble gift or not.

Baba, I will go on singing Your sweet melodies and my heart will
vibrate in that melody and I will dance in Your divine vibration. Will
You then look at me or not?

Baba, my Dearmost I have so much love for You, please do not forget
me, please keep me in Your arms…

==  CHURCH SEX SCANDAL: MANY THINGS TO LEARN ==

Namaskar,
For decades and decades the Catholic Church has been riddled by sexual
abuse and scandal. Yet, it all remained hidden for a long time. Now it
is rising to the surface as their own followers are coming forward with
their personal accounts and tales of abuse by priests. This has become a
huge public scandal for the church.

In addition, recent reports reveal how the Pope himself was also
involved in this long-standing problem.

Even though Ananda Marga is not a religion – ours is universal dharma –
we should examine how issues of sexual abuse became rampant within the
church as well as why those cases were effectively covered up for
generations and generations. We should take note of the problem not just
as the downfall of a particular religion but also how we can prevent
such incidents in our Marga.

Finally, we shall review why Baba has termed neo-humanism as a “weapon”
to clean up the entire humanity and put an end to all dogmas.

PRIESTS ARE INFALLIBLE

All the various religions have taken hold of society in one way or
another. But the main thing they have in common is creating a scripture
and doctrine that pronounces their priests on a pedestal. Their priests
are deemed as infallible – i.e. God’s chosen representatives. Without
them, one cannot enjoy the kingdom in heaven.

Church officials can then use their unquestionable authority as divine
leaders for their own self-interest and even crude sexual dealing – as
we now see.

In AM we have monks and nuns, but there is no priestocracy because in
Ananda Marga, our Dadas and Didis are not “middle-men” between the
sadhaka and the Supreme. But in the church it is like that.

Basically, religions like Catholicism rule society by creating all kinds
of unfair laws – against women, lay people, outsiders etc – and then
proclaiming their own priests as demi-gods. This entire agenda is then
wrapped in the tinsel of godhood.

That means if anyone does not follow the priest rulership, they will not
enjoy the eternal bounty of God, instead they will be doomed to hell
fire. With this fear complex and air of superiority, the church easily
rules over the masses. It has been this way for centuries.

And the main precept is: The priests are infallible and beyond question.

By this way, the lay people become second class citizens at the mercy of
the all-powerful priest. Even in today’s materialistic society, still
church officials carry tremendous clout.

That is one of the main reasons why Catholic priests were able to get
away with all kinds of sexual abuse from pedophilia to homosexuality and
much, much more – for decades and decades if not centuries.

They were deemed as infallible, beyond reproach, and God’s divine
messenger. In that case, what wrong could they do?

CANON LAW:

PRIESTS NOT SUBJECT TO CRIMINAL COURT

A second major contributing factor to the ongoing sexual abuse scandal
in the Roman Catholic Church is canon law.

Church officials and priests are not subject to state law etc. Instead
they have their own canon law. But when that canon law just rubber
stamps a priest’s innocence regardless of what sin they commit or what
hell they do, then the priest need not answer to anyone. Then there is
no law to which they must adhere.

For this reason, there has been systemic sexual misconduct in the
church. Because via canon law they covered it all up and brushed it
under the rug.

Whereas if anyone in the general society is convicted of pedophilia,
child molestation, or anything else, then that stain will remain on
their permanent record and their name will be publicly listed on
official websites as being sexual predators. They will have a criminal
record and be followed by the courts in their every dealing.

But the church does not operate with such strictness. To appear pristine
and pure, they never address their issues publicly, unless someone else
has brought the affair to the fore. And most often, the church merely
overlooks the matter entirely. The sexual crime remains but a piece of
paper in the file cabinet of one bishop, far beyond the reach of the
parishioners and state officials.

Thus when priests are deemed as infallible and when the governing body
of the church overlooks their wrongs via canon law, priests literally
have license to do as they please. In that case they can and will commit
so many atrocities.

That is why the floodgates have now burst. After years and years of
cover-ups, people are coming forward to report all the hellish
behaviours of those priests.

Indeed, today the church is confronted by tens of thousands, if not
hundreds of thousands, of cases of sexual abuse. Many cases remain
unreported – but certainly people are coming forward and demanding
justice. What was covered up for years behind the cloak of the church is
now pouring into headlines around the globe.

WHY ABUSED DID NOT COME FORWARD

Even though some victims are making claims today, for generations,
hardly a single person was willing to bring the matter in the public
arena. There are many reasons for this.

Firstly, many little boys who may have told their parents about being
touched etc, were simply not believed. Parents could not fathom, nor did
they want to think, that their child had been sexually abused by a
priest. This is one reason why a case was not brought forward. That
happened within the family.

Then of course there were many ways that the church had for dealing with
this. Often the church simply blamed the victim for enticing the priest
and imposed such a guilt complex on the victim that they were ashamed to
come forward. Or the church warned the victim that it was a sin to speak
openly about this issue, so the only option was to remain quiet. And
finally, the priests told victims that if they kept this to themselves
they will be rewarded in heaven.

Plus there are so many other strategies and justifications the church
employed in order to keep the matter hush-hush and unknown.

Then there is an entire group of victims who became utterly terrified of
the priests. There were emotionally scarred and did not even dare
receive the holy sacrament from such priests as that would entail being
touched by them or being whispered to in the ear by the priest. When
they were so hurt, they have neither the courage nor the strength to
come forward and fight an institution as mighty as the churhc

SHORT HISTORY OF SEXUAL CASES

SINCE 2000

That era of utter silence has now mostly passed. Dirt and grime can only
be covered up for so long. Even then many remain silent – forever
scarred by the abuse, breach of trust, scandal and shame.

Here is but a brief glimpse of some of the sexual abuse issues since
2000. The below represents a mere fraction of what actually transpired.
However, each and every day the list grows and becomes more steeped in
rampant abuse and irresponsible governance.

2002 Vatican issues directive that all sexual abuse allegations should
be reported to Rome

2002 Rev. Paul Shanley, former priest of the Archdiocese of Boston
arrested, charged, and convicted of abusing numerous boys

2002-US cardinals travel to Rome for emergency meeting with Pope re.
sexual abuse scandal

2002 Cardinal Law of Boston resigns as Archbishop and moves to post in
Vatican

2004 John Jay Report, commissioned by the US Bishops, says more than
4,000 US Roman Catholic priests had faced sexual abuse allegations in
the last 50 years, in cases involving more than 10,000 children – mostly
boys

2004 Archdiocese of Portland files for bankruptcy

2007 Spokane Diocese agrees to pay sexual abuse survivors $48 million

2007 Archdiocese of Los Angeles agrees to pay survivors $660 million

Thus, the church can no longer deny that there is a problem. The only
question is how will they resolve issues of the past and prevent future
scandals. Regardless, they may never be able to regain the trust of the
people.

In Europe, the massive churches are mostly empty. The continent has
become a lost cause for the church. Christianity is doing comparatively
better in the US, but mostly their so-called success is found in the
“developing nations”.

This too however will be short lived because once the people are armed
with the ideals of neo-humanism, the irrational and dogmatic ways of the
church will no longer appeal to them.

HOW MONKS CAME INTO EXISTENCE IN CHRISTIANITY

Let’s now take a look how celibacy came into being in the Catholic
Church as well as why it could not become a successful practice.

Christianity is about 2000 years old whereas the eastern religions like
Hinduism and Buddhism are much older. So those early Christian leaders
took a look, albeit a superficial one, at what was happening in the east
and they saw that huge respect was given to monks who practiced
celibacy. So it was incorporated into certain sects of Christianity as
well. This was one way to present the priest class as being “divine” and
better than the general public.

What the church officials failed to emulate however were all the
stringent codes of conduct that monks in the east followed:
Vegetarianism, fasting, asana, pranayama, sadhana, tapah, no
intoxicants, yama and niyama etc. This is not to say that every monk
from an eastern tradition is tried and true. Only we are to understand
that those who are successful adhere to a pure way of living.

But in Christianity, they only copied the point of celibacy. They failed
to copy any sentient lifestyle practices. Hence their priests indulged
in tamasik foods, crude drink and had no real spiritual base. In that
case they were an accident waiting to happen. It was impossible for them
to lead a disciplined life when their entire constitution was littered
with static properties. In that case their baser propensities were just
growing and growing.

It comes as no surprise then that for centuries, the Catholic priests
have been submerged in crude pursuits like child molestation etc.

By Baba’s grace our Marga is not like that. Baba has blessed us with a
proper way of living. No doubt we are not scandal free, but anyone who
sincerely follows 16 Pts will lead a blessed life. Sixteen Points fuels
the sadhaka – family person or sannyasi – in a wholly positive direction.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AM AND RELIGIONS

All in all, there is a heaven and hell difference between Ananda Marga
and the existing religions. We should be aware of these basic
differences. That will give insight as to why AM will succeed where the
religions failed. Slowly, slowly the whole globe is search of truth – a
way to reach God – and we should be able to clearly elucidate the
differences so none think that Ananda Marga is merely an off-shoot or
combination of certain religions.

The following points have been well outlined in the book, “The Flame
that Burns Upward” (1974) by Jagadishwarananda. Here the chief
differentiations between AM and the dogmatic religions are merely listed
for your review:

(a) Ananda Marga does not recognise holy river or holy places.
(b) Ananda Marga is determined to put an end to priesthood.
(c) Ananda Marga has made heaven and hell non-existent.
(d) Ananda Marga discourages prayer, worship, rites, rituals etc.
(e) Ananda Marga has created disenchantment about religious thread and
pigtail, ie sacred thread and sacred hair.

These are some of the basic differences between our Ananda Marga and the
various religions. Some other differences are related with our social
outlook. Christianity rallies around capitalism whereas our Ananda Marga
advocates Prout.

Furthermore, anyone familiar with the ideals of AM can list more
differences.

WHAT WE SHOULD LEARN FROM ALL THIS

For us, seeing what is happening in the Catholic church is a lesson.

We must always remember that priests are not infallible and that anyone
can err, regardless of their dress.

Of course our AM scriptures do not proclaim that avadhutas are
infallible nor do they proclaim that avadhutas are a medium between the
sadhaka and God, but if we are not careful we can fall into that hole.
In that case so many dangers and scandals will come our way.

Thus we should remember that all must live up to the ideal of Ananda
Marga codes of conduct. That is the main thing. Just being an avadhuta
is not enough. That way of life is a practice, not a position.

Baba says, “Bear in mind that people may be harmed or misled by even a
small weakness or defect in the conduct of an a’ca’rya. Just as it is
the duty of a father to educate his children properly by his good
conduct, an a’ca’rya should always instruct by his exemplary actions and
words.” (AV-31)

Thus, everyone in AM, family person or Wt, must adhere to the codes of
conduct as given by Baba. Should anyone drift from that conduct they
should be pointed out – and if applicable, exposed in front of the law.

We must not tolerate even an ounce of wrongdoing, otherwise we will face
a similar scenario as is unfolding now with the Catholic Church. We
should not lose the faith of the masses when all around the globe people
are looking for someone to lead them unto the path of beatitude and peace.

One other point to bear in mind is this:

Baba says, “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” (AV-33)

For centuries, the Catholic church possessed extraordinary power,
wherein they were not answerable to any law whatsoever, and that led to
their demise.

In AM, everyone person, regardless of their post, must be answerable for
their own behaviour – no one is exempt from review.

NEO-HUMANISM AS A WEAPON

When Baba first gave neo-humanism then He said that you now have the
“weapon of neo-humanism”. Those days few understood since in that time
the atom bomb and long range missiles were thought of as powerful
weapons. How could a philosophy be a weapon.

Now we know.

Wherever neo-humanism is propagated, the masses become aware and dogma
gets exposed. In that case, no one can rest on their so-called sacred
position and claim themselves as divine.

Over time, people have thought of kings, queens, priests, politicians,
actors, war heroes, and athletes as being divine. Due to Baba’s grace,
the collective human consciousness is rising and before our very eyes we
are witness to the fall of crude leaders in all realms of life:
financial, political, social and religious.

With the spread of neo-humanistic ideals – as is happening now – there
is nowhere for crude leaders to hide. All must face their misdeeds. That
is what the people demand.

With the propagation of neo-humanism, our human society will be rid of
old dogmas and enter a whole new era. What is happening now with the
Catholic Church is no coincidence. It is a direct result of their
dogmatic ways combined with the supreme advent of Parama Purusa and
divine His teachings.

Baba says that the dogmatic religions are going to die. And indeed now
they are getting exposed and being torn down by their own followers. The
Pope and his Catholicism are facing this as we speak.

BABA’S BLESSING

Baba’s divine cosmic grace is working and this entire world is changing
fast every day. Ananda Marga is the real thing; it is dharma for the
welfare of all. We should represent His teachings by our conduct and not
let our Marga fall like as happened with the dogmatic religions.

Baba says, “Your ideal is represented by your conduct. Your learning,
your social or economic status have nothing to do with your ideal.” (AV #13)

Psychic Disease: False Health Problem

Even though they do not have any physical problem, psychically diseased
people mentally suffer and cry and complain about different imagined
physical ailments. Such types of psychic diseases are called mania.
Following is one example:

Baba says, “There was another person I knew who was quite healthy and
carried out his daily activities with ease, and yet he was under the
impression, for no particular reason, that there was some trouble in his
stomach. Actually there was no disease; he was in good health. Yet
occasionally he used to come to me and complain that there was some
disorder in his stomach. This was his [psychic disease] of mania.”
(APH-5, p. 347)

Herein lies the solution:

Baba says, “One of the numerous benefits of sa’dhana’ is that it keeps the mind
free from psychic disease.” (APH-5, p.348)

“Bhulo kare eso priyo a’ma’r ei kut’ire…” P.S. 1808

Purport:

Oh my dearmost Baba, it seems that knowingly You do not want to come in
my hut. At least You please come once by mistake. It is true that I do
not have any quality or attribution– nor do I have devotion. Then by
which force can I call You. Because to call You and request You to come
to my home, for this devotion is needed. And that I do not have.
That is why I request You to please come by Your causeless grace.
Baba, You know that I am not the ocean of knowledge; nor do I have
a huge quantity of intellect. I am completely loaded with imperfections
and impurities. Nobody likes to look toward me; everyone avoids me
thinking that I am most ordinary type of being. Baba please grace me.
Baba, upon You alone I have full faith and trust. You are my hope– of
my hopeless heart You are my colourful dream. My entire longing and my
entire thirst and whole love is revolving around You. Baba, You are my
everything. Please keep me close or away, it is up to You…

== GAY WT’S ==

Namaskar,
Recently, one of our Wt’s presided over the marriage of two gay women
(i.e. lesbians.) This letter looks at why this worker became entangled
in this way.

GOAL OF LIFE IN AM

The most essential point to keep in mind in this type of discussion is
that in AM the goal of life is to reach Parama Purusa. There is no
secondary aim – no carnal desire that takes precedence.

Baba says, “Knowing that eternal Entity, that permanent Entity, [is] the
only goal of life, one has to propel all one’s mental propensities
towards Him. One must not waste one’s potentialities mistaking the
transitory for the eternal.” (NSS, Disc: 11)

Baba says, “To eat, live and somehow survive is the goal of life for
sub-human beings. But for human beings the main jiivanavrtti [driving
force in life] is to worship Parama Purus’a, to love Him with their
entire being.” (DKG)

Baba says, “In all the strata the only goal of life, the only
culminating point of all the marches is the Supreme Entity.” (SS-12)

Hence our every action is for reaching Him. That means all our motor and
sensory organs must be utlized for something great; we must not let them
get enmeshed in crude allurements.

That is why in our AM way of life, all our practices from Guru Sakash to
bath mantra to sadhana to asana to diet to kiirtan etc, everything from
morning till night – even our sleep – is done for realising and serving
Him. We should never allow ourselves to be allured by the mundane.

Marital relations too are only for serving Him in the form of society
building. There is no other aim or lustful desire in mind. In AM sex is
solely for procreation. Most understand this well – and of course there
are some who may not like to hear this but that is the truth. In AM that
is our stand – period.

The culminating point that we must return to again and again is that
human life is for directing the mind unto Him and becoming one with
Parama Purusa. To that end, all one’s physical, psychic & spiritual
longings must be goaded unto Parama Purusa and not any worldly
allurement like crude heterosexual or homosexual dealings.

SYMPATHY FOR THEM

NOT ACCEPTANCE OF THEIR INDULGENCE

As Ananda Margiis, we are to have sympathy and concern for those people
involved in gay and lesbian relations, after all they are our brothers
and sisters. But that sexual indulgence cannot be accepted in AM. Rather
with love and affection we are to help cure them of their glandular,
psychological, and hormonal defects.

Unfortunately, one Dada in AM totally forgot our ideal and he recently
married two females (i.e. two lesbians) in a so-called AM wedding ceremony.

WHY DADA DID IT

The next question at hand is why Dada did it. A few may give some high
sounding theories about Dada’s open-mindedness and that we will address
further down in this letter, but suffice to say here that there is a
deeper reason involved.

And here it is.

In some level of his physical or psychic being, this Dadaji who presided
over the gay marriage is also gay himself.

After all, prior to 1990, Baba repeatedly pointed out and exposed
certain Wts for their homosexual dealings, so it is not like it has not
happened before. And at present in our Marga there are gay and lesbian
issues within our Wt cadre, both on the Dada’s and Didi’s side. They may
not openly declare themselves as such but they are doing it, either with
other workers or with innocent people in society. It happens. And that
too must be addressed – they should be cured.

But this is the first time that a Dadaji – and a senior one at that –
took it upon himself to openly conduct a gay marriage and the reason why
he did it is that he himself is indulged in carnal delights.

If his mind was fixed on the true goal of life – attaining Parama Purusa
– he would never have done such a thing. But living in this worldly
abode his mind has taken a turn downward toward the baser allurements of
life, like sexual lust and homosexuality. And in the forefront of his
mind, he thinks, “What is wrong – this is fine.”

Such is the delusion that confronts any Dada when they lose their
spiritual ideal. We should take pity on him and help lift him up by his
bootstraps so he may one day regain his spiritual flow.

TWO FALSE JUSTIFICATIONS

Of course on the outside, this Dada will never openly admit he is prone
to (homo)sexual thoughts and activity. Rather he will try and take the
high road when explaining about why he conducted that gay marriage.

For instance he might, give the false justification that marriage is a
human right that should be extended to all, irregardless of their sexual
orientation. But according to the stand of AM, such a justification
falls flat on its face. Crude sexual dealing is not a human right,
rather it is the utter degradation of one’s human existence. The only
acceptable reason for sexual activity is child rearing, there is no
other justification. So it is not right to say that two males or two
females have the right to marry and indulge when it is biologically
impossible for them to reproduce. Just as it is not a human right for a
person to degrade themselves with drugs or alcohol, similarly it is not
a human right for one to degrade themselves with crude sexual acts like
homosexuality etc. None then should be befooled by this false claim that
gay marriage is a human right. No one has the right to indulge in crude,
animalistic behaviour for their selfish interest.

Secondly, some mistakenly justify that since the church is dogmatic and
since the church opposes homosexuality and gay marriage, then taking a
stance opposite to the church is broad-minded. But that is also wrong.
Broad-mindedness stems from following the dharma of AM and not giving
acceptance to crude acts like homosexuality. We are to align our vision
with our Ananda Marga and not fall in the group of such so-called
open-minded atheists who automatically battle the church on each and
every issue. Our stand has nothing to do with either of those camps –
neither the church nor the liberal materialists. Only we are to pay heed
to Baba’s teachings. Sometimes others may agree with us or disagree, but
our polestar is Baba and His teachings, not any camp in today’s
socio-political arena.

Thus no one should think that Dadaji is a superhero because he is
championing human rights or being open-minded in the name of gay
marriage. His situation is not like that. The only reason he has
conducted a gay marriage ceremony is because he himself has fallen into
the mud of gay relations and in so doing he has lost the path of AM.
That is the sole reasoning.

We should all work hard to help Dadaji return to his spiritual roots and
bring his sadhana back into proper flow. Then he will be alright.

JOINING AM MEANS FOLLOWING AM IDEALS

One critical point we must bear in mind: Joining AM means adhering to
the ideals of Ananda Marga.

That means adopting Parama Purusa as the goal of life and not allowing
any mundane allurement to distort our vision. In today’s current
materialistic society, sex is the main theme of life: sexual
satisfaction, sexual gratification, sexual this and sexual that.
Needless to say this is totally misguided.

The cream of life is spiritual bliss and coming into His divine flow,
i.e. serving and pleasing Him. That is the path of human dharma and that
is the way of life in AM. We harbour no other goal, especially not a
crude one like sensual allurement.

If anyone tries to bring gay marriage and homosexual relations as part
of AM, then we can no longer be called A’nanda Ma’rga; it will have to
became Ka’ma Ma’rga. As we all know, ka’ma in Sankrit refer to the chase
after crude physical passions.

Here the point is that we cannot change the rules or goal of AM. Ananda
Marga is what it is – the blissful path to the Divine. Those who wish to
indulge in lowly sexual pursuits like homosexuality will either have to
reform their ways or go elsewhere. Because AM has its stated purpose and
all those in AM must follow accordingly.

AM was built for bhagavad dharma – not any other purpose.

Consider this: Our jagrtis are for spiritual enlightenment and as soon
as one of our jagritis becomes a place where drugs are sold then it has
to be called a hashish house, not a jagrti. Because that is not the
intended purpose of that jagrti.

Likewise, as soon as crude homosexual relations are allowed into AM,
then it is no longer Ananda Marga. It will have to be called something
else because AM was put in place with a specific purpose in mind.

AM is for the attainment of Parama Purusa. That is our goal, not any
mundane fancy. Carnal pleasures are not our goal in AM. Yet that is the
endpoint of all crude sexual dealings like homosexuality.

Suffice to say here that homosexuality and Ananda Marga cannot co-exist
under the same roof. Those indulged in homosexuality are our patients
not our followers.

BABA’S BLESSING

By Baba’s grace He has given us a clear-cut vision in life: a direct
line to the Supreme. We should not – nay must not – let any intrusion,
like gay marriage & lustful sexual dealings, become accepted in our
Marga. Even if one Dada – any Dada or Didi, does it, it only means that
is their personal inclination. It does not mean that is now part of
Ananda Marga. AM is made up of Baba’s teachings – not anything else. Not
the lustful wanderings of any worker etc. We should keep our mind on the
Polestar and move onwards.

Baba says, “The only way to attain salvation is through self-knowledge,
and for this one requires pure conduct in the external world, pure
thought in the mental world, and whole-hearted surrender to the Supreme
Entity – the shelter of all, the one who is hidden in each and every
entity – as the polestar of one’s life.” (NSS, Disc: 16)

Namaskar,
Pradiip

Note 1: WHO IS THAT DADA

As many of you probably already know. The Dada involved in this gay
marriage fiasco in Suva sector is Dada Pranakrsnananda. He is very
senior so it is a shame to see him fall in this way and become so
confused about his role in life. This is no way for any respected
avadhuta to behave.

Note 2: MORE IMPORTANT LETTERS ON THIS TOPIC

These following letters address many other aspects to this issue of
homosexuality. In AM our stance is quite clear, but those trying to drag
such things into our AM way of life have all kinds of justifications.
They are slow to learn due to their attachments, so it then becomes the
need of the day to address the issue multiple times in numerous ways.
Because such people who have affinity for homosexuality have their own
outlook that is different from Baba’s teachings.

*************************************************
Allopathic Medicines Not Good

Baba says, “When people take allopathic medicine to cure a disease, the
medicine
disturbs the ecological balance of the body because more negative
microvita get concentrated at the point of the disease. Allopathic
medicines do not kill diseases — diseases die by their own natural
death. Although the medicine may check the disease, the increased
concentration of negative microvita can overcome the effect of the
medicine. In fact, the increased concentration of negative microvita
caused by allopathic medicines creates many new types of diseases, and
due to this, two or three new diseases are presently being created every
decade. So what is the solution to this problem? Our approach should be
two fold– external and internal. Externally we should take medicines to
check diseases, but internally we should perform spiritual practice.”

“Kon aja’na’ there esecho arun’a’loke he aja’na’ pathik balo…” (PS 2386)

Purport:

O’ Aja’na’ Pathik [1], tell me, from which unknown land have You come
in the crimson light of the new dawn. Baba, from where have You come. O’
my Dearest, please don’t keep me away, thinking of me as a stranger.
Grace me by coming to my hut, please come in abode.

Baba, Your smiling love pours endless moonlight. Your divine radiance
knows no bounds. Baba, with the sweetness of Your mind, fruit comes in
the flower. By Your grace, everything has more charm. With the hope of
Your arrival, the ray of effulgence comes dancing; with that effulgence
You eradicate the darkness of my mind. By Your grace, my heart and mind
are illumined by Your touch.

Baba, by Your thought projection, everything flows – the entire
creation – from dust to mountains, from meteors to distant nebulae.
Everything dances according to Your wish. Your effulgence sparkles in
atoms and molecules. Baba, You are firm in ideology, You never
compromise. You are the essence of dharma.

Baba, the Ajana Pathik, from which unknown land have You come in
crimson light, please tell me, please tell me…

NOTES FOR PRABHAT SAMGIITA #2386:

[1] Aja’na’ Pathik= Aja’na’ means ‘unknown’ and Pathik means ‘divine
traveler’. This is the word by word, literal translation. But the inner
sense is that Parama Purusa is always moving throughout this vast cosmos
and by His special grace He is constantly present with everyone all the
time. He is in the Cosmic Nucleus yet at the same time through His ota
and prota yoga He is everywhere– carefully watching & lovingly guiding
everyone. This unique aspect of His grand Personality is treated as
Aja’na’ Pathik. Because He is constantly traveling yet present
everywhere. He is in the nucleus as well as throughout this entire
expressed universe.

As the Ajana Pathik, Parama Purusa Baba moves and moves and moves. Thus
in their devotional approach devotees feel that wherever they go then the
Divine Aja’na’ Pathik will always be there to shower His blessing. By
His grace, devotees can always get His intimate company & companionship.
With this devotional link, by His grace sadhakas understand that Parama
Purusa is present everywhere, yet side by side He travels on and on
throughout this entire cosmos. Thus He is Aja’na’ Pathik.

Overall the name Aja’na’ Pathik has one special and unique meaning that
goes far beyond its literal translation. And in our hearts we A’nanda
Ma’rgiis know and feel that Baba is that Aja’na’ Pathik. Indeed in His
discourses, in Dharma Samiiksa, and in reporting, in DMC, and in
numerous ways Baba has revealed this very fact that He is ever-present
and always along with us. Hence He is always moving and wherever we go
then He will also be there. Parama Purusa has infinite attributions and
one of them is this special quality where He always remains along with
us wherever we are in this vast universe. In this way He is known as —
Aja’na’ Pathik.

== TALKING WITH GAYS ==

Note: If you know anyone who is gay, kindly share this letter with them
or convey these ideas to them. Thank you.

Namaskar,
I know for years and years you feel that the world has been against you
and that yours has been an uphill battle.

Thus when these days gay marriage is gaining more and more momentum,
naturally you feel a sense of relief and victory. You may even feel
vindicated. And internally you may deem it as progressive, open-minded,
and so much more.

On the one hand I applaud you for your innate humanness – everyone
deserves love, respect and affection.

Side by side, we should also ensure all are moving ahead on the proper
path. It is for this reason I address this letter to you and the gay
community today.

MY RIGHT

Like you, many in the gay community hold dearly onto the following notion:

“As I have desire and attraction for the same sex, then this practice
should be honoured and I should have the right to marry as well.”

This is a very commonly portrayed and indeed understandable position.

PEOPLE HAVE ALL KINDS OF DESIRES

However we have to remember that people have all kinds of desires.
Having the desire itself does not justify the action.

For instance:

1) A person may have the desire to dance naked in the streets;
2) A person may have the desire to withhold pay from their workers;
3) A person may have the desire to own slaves;
4) A person may have the desire to cheat on his wife;
5) A person may have the desire to have sex with animals.

Indeed about the latter, Baba has given one report.

Baba says, “syphilis first originated in dogs, and through contact with
them the human body got infected.” (YT)

Here the point is that people have all kinds of desires. Simply having
the desire does not by definition imply that the action is good,
justified, or natural. Rather it may cause a lot of harm and lead people
astray.

That is why good people, conscientious people, will control that desire
and not act upon it. They understand that the desire stems from a
particular weakness of mind and it should be overcome.

NOTHING BUT A WEAKNESS

Indeed, in many cases, what we desire is nothing but a point of weakness.

A person may be morbidly obese and suffer from high blood pressure. Yet
the desire arises in the mind to eat a bit piece of cake or a Big Mac at
McDonalds. This may be a very strong desire that they have. But who can
say that this desire is righteous – who can say that this desire should
be acted upon. Having the desire is not the defining point of whether an
action is proper or not.

For example, some may desire to drink bucket loads of alcohol or do
harsh illegal drugs. Here again, simply having the desire does not
justify the act or prove it worthy. In many cases, people have
proclivity towards a particular habit because of their own personal
weakness. It happens – commonly so.

Perhaps you are now shaking your head and thinking that these examples
do not apply to homosexuality and gay rights. Only I urge you to further
consider the matter.

It is very important that we understand which desires are born out of
human weakness and which desires lead us on the path of welfare. The two
should not be confused.

Unfortunately now in this materialistic era, may fall prey to the
former, indulging in all kinds of activities out of weakness.

Just because one claims, “I have the desire…”, that is not a
proper justification for homosexuality relations.

SEX IS FOR PROCREATION

Sex itself is nothing but a medium for producing offspring, i.e. for
having babies. If two married people have sex for the sake of society
building, i.e. having children, then that is most natural and supported.

If however, males and females just randomly engage in sexual activity
purely out of lust, then that is their weakness. And ultimately, like
many weaknesses, they will suffer the consequences from that misdeed.

Acting on lustful tendencies of mind is no different from other
indulgences.

A heart patient will suffer from a heart attack or stroke if they
continue to act on their desire to eat greasy foods. A stripper will be
put in jail for running through the streets naked. And there are so many
examples.

So when sex is for procreation, then we must understand that those
randomly engaging in sex out of purely lustful desires are not on the
path of welfare. And they will suffer the consequences in the form of
psychic degradation and physical diseases like impotency, cervical
cancer, AIDS etc.

Here the point is that when sex itself is for procreation, and when
lustful male-female relations is just a weakness of mind, then when
there is no possibility for a gay relationship to produce children, that
relation too is not consistent with nature. One may have the desire and
one may justify therefore it is “natural”, but that desire is born out
of human weakness, not human dharma.

The conclusion is not that gay and lesbian relations should be outlawed.
Rather a compassionate understanding should pervade our society and help
and support should be offered. No one should be left to wallow in this
weakness of mind.

None should be left to stand there and say, “I desire gay relations
and therefore that is my right.” This type of defective logic should
not be anyone’s lone battle cry.

MUST NOT RALLY AROUND WEAKNESSES

Our human society suffers so these days and most often this suffering
stems from indulging in human weaknesses. But we should recognise such
things as defects – and not rally around them as being high ideals.

Again, please excuse me as I have full regard and empathy for your
feelings and self-worth. As a child of Parama Purusa, I have deep
feeling for you as my brother and sister. This is not an easy issue to
deal with. Yet together we must examine the matter with a sense of
vaeragya (detachment), then we can view the matter for what it is.

An alcoholic never likes to think that alcohol is bad. That comes from
his attachment to that habit. The moment he is able to step back and see
the big picture without projecting his own weakness or justification,
then he will instantly realise that alcohol is not beneficial. So it
takes a sort of detachment.

Same is the case with regards to homosexuality.

Today, many are rallying around your cause of gay rights and gay
marriage. Yet with a calm and balanced mind, detached from your
preconceived notions, you can see how far this is proper & beneficial or
not.

Then, I believe, you will see that it results out of human weakness.

HOW TO REVERSE TREND

These days, especially in the west, weaknesses like homosexuality / gay
rights are held as being highly progressive ideas. People speak proudly
of it. But this is not the essence or crowning point of human life.

If people are taught from their very childhood about sexuality and
spirituality and what our human organs are for, then that will steer
most onto the proper path.

Then we will not see both homosexuals and heterosexuals rallying around
the cry to legalise gay marriage.

If we as a humanity understand that this results from a point of
weakness and is not something great or broad-minded, then we can help
people to advance. Failing that more and more will become entrapped in
gay relations, especially if that is openly embraced by society.

Ultimately we are to rally around those great ideals of neo-humanism and
psycho-spirituality, and not get drowned in human weakness – whether
that be theft, debauchery or homosexuality.

Then no one will say, “I desire homosexual relations and therefore
it is good and should be approved.” Rather people will aim for
a higher goal in life, and not get bogged down in human weakness.

BABA’S BLESSING

By Baba’s grace, ours is a dynamic human society where there is love and
empathy for all, regardless of who they are and how they live. With this
compassionate understanding, we ask the you – members of the gay
community – to step back and examine your life. Life is not a physical
endeavor for sexual pursuit, it is a spiritual journey toward the
sublime. We must all overcomes whatever weaknesses of mind we harbour
and advance ahead on the path of true spirituality.

Namaskar,
Mukunda

Health Guideline

Baba says, “Deafness is not a disease by itself, unless it is congenital.
It is an after-effect or reaction to some other ailment…Excessive use of

Note: The intake of allopathic medicines contribute significantly to
deafness. One can see this reaction especially in the case of small kids.

== HOMOSEXUALS & AM ==

Namaskar,
In the general society – especially in the west and certainly in the US
– the gay / homosexual movement is gaining momentum. They are marching
on the capital, getting the attention of the US President, lobbying to
make gay marriages legal in so various states, and various other things
are going on.

Naturally then, those homosexuals hiding in AM may be thinking that soon
their time is going to come. They may be thinking that their star is
going to rise and that soon the momentum about the gay / lesbian
platform will swing in AM as well. Surely some homosexually-oriented
people who’ve been biding their time in the Marga are making plans to
mobilise and turn things in their favour.

So we have to think: Is this perspective correct? Is AM going to also
“turn the corner” on the gay issue?

WHY MANY FEEL IT IS PROGRESSIVE

In the general society, taking a stand in support of the termed
“gay-rights” issue is viewed as progressive and broad-minded. Now it has
become the fashion to “accept all people without judgment”, embrace all
religions, and be open to all ways of doing. Today this type of outlook
is highly appreciated and if one embraces such a perspective they are
viewed as being “cosmopolitan” and “open-minded”.

Why is it the case?

Because for centuries there has been a lot of dogma and hatred stemming
from both the general society and the various religions. Such harshness
made life extremely difficult for many people. There was blatant racism,
gender inequality, and so much intolerance of others that life was quite
unbearable.

Now that is less so – there is widespread & growing acceptance of all
peoples. And for the most part this has been a big improvement because
earlier the general society and the various religions were littered with
so many stigmas and dogmas. People were being senselessly alienated and
attacked.

Thus, in the general society, this has been a progressive period in many
respects – and the label of “progressiveness” has been expanded to
include the homosexual way of living as well.

So those gay oriented people hiding in AM are thinking that soon their
sun will rise in AM as well.

ANANDA MARGA IS DHARMA

Before deciding one way or the other about the future of homosexuality
in AM, we must remember that AM is dharma. That is the first thing to
keep in mind.

Baba says, “Ananda Marga alone is dharma and all the rest are sectisms.”
(SS-1, p.63)

That means that from its very inception Ananda Marga has been filled
with truth and righteousness. The teachings of AM are perfect in all
respects – they need not be improved upon. Nothing more needs to be
added in order for it to become “progressive”. Only human beings need to
come to realise such teachings.

In stark contrast the various religions are founded in dogma.

Baba says, “All religions are based on dogma – they are not based on
logic – and they propagate their dogma through stories, myths and
parables.” (PNS-18)

Thus there is a heaven and hell difference between AM and the various
religions.

Ours is based on proper and right-minded teachings given by Parama
Purusa Himself and the various religions are based on crude, degrading
mandates issued by selfish priests. And those misguided religious tenets
have hounded society for centuries.

So when AM is dharma then we should maintain its pristine form whereas
the religions should be modified and cleaned-up.

It is just like if there is pure food then putting any chemical in that
food “to clean it up” will pollute it whereas if food has dirt in food
from the very beginning then steps must be taken to remove the soil and
make the food proper.

Likewise if someone is 100% healthy then there is no need to operate on
that person – and indeed operating will cause harm – whereas if one is
diseased then an operation is needed.

Our Marga is like the pure food and the healthy person while the
dogmatic religions are like the soiled food and the diseased person.

Baba’s guidelines need not / must not be changed whereas the religions
need huge modifications and changes. That is the central operative
principle.

Now let’s see how this formula applies to the issue of homosexuality in
Ananda Marga, remembering that AM is 100% dharma and straying from that
only invites degeneration.

BABA IN DHARMA SAMIIKSA

During dharma samiiksa, Baba took a strong stand against all wrongdoing
in order to set society on the proper course and bring welfare to the
people. We all saw this.

For the sake of righteousness, Baba openly exposed those involved in
extra-marital affairs, pre-marital sex, pedophilia, and, here it comes,
lesbian and gay interactions. All these things Baba openly addressed
during the time of dharma samiiksa.

Baba clearly opposed all gay and homosexual type of dealing. Never did
He accept it or praise it. Rather He offered strong punishment to
rectify that individual and bring them onto the path of welfare.

So when AM is dharma and when Baba’s stand is in opposition to gay
relations, then we must not deviate from that way. Because whatever may
be the trend in the general society today, already the teachings of AM
represents the right approach. We need not bend to what is viewed as
being “broadminded” according to the general society. Rather deviating
from the stand of AM is to fall from the path of dharma. So we must not
bend.

Baba says, “We will not deviate an inch from our ideology, nor will we
allow others to do so. One cannot promote human welfare if one bothers
too much about public criticism, about the reaction in the papers or
among the voters.” (NSS, Disc: 14)

Thus when Baba’s stand and the stand of AM is against the practice of
homosexuality, then that is our approach – period.

EMPATHY NEEDED

This in no way means that we should persecute gay people or allow any
hate crimes or violence towards gay people. That is not our way. They
are our brothers and sisters and part of this grand human family. We
must have maximum empathy for them as human beings and respect as
individuals.

It is only their mode of living that we do not appreciate, not their
personae.

Furthermore we should work to get them treatment for their glandular
defects etc. Just like anyone suffering from a malady, we should help
them to recover in both the physical and / or psychic fields. In
addition, we are to show them that if they want to find and express
love, then they should learn to love Parama Purusa.

Thus although we strongly oppose the practice of homosexuality, we will
never launch a personal campaign against those individuals per se.
Rather we will always defend and ensure their cardinal human rights as
we attempt to educate them about and rectify their lifestyle.

WHY SEX

In AM, we all know that sex is purely for procreation purposes. It is
basically has no other value or real use. Baba advises maximum
restraint, i.e. “the more the better”.

Those familiar with AM and Baba’s mandates understand this point well.

So when homosexuality offers no recourse for producing children then
what is the use of such relations. It is just lust and / or misguided
attraction. Nothing more.

There is no existential value or utility in homosexual relations.

IT WILL ONLY BE POSSIBLE WHEN…

So although this is a seemingly controversial topic, our approach is
quite clear. There need not be any debate or countless forums about this
topic.

Those who think that just as gay relations are gaining support in
general society then the same will occur in AM are misguided. This is
not what the future holds for Ananda Marga.

Gay relations – as a human practice – will only be possible in Ananda
Marga when things like pre-marital sex, prostitution, easy-as-pie
divorce, fatherless children, and child pornography are also accepted in
AM. I.e. Never.

The day such things are embraced by AM society is the day it is no
longer Ananda Marga. It will be something else.

AM ideals are based on Baba’s teachings and our AM society is meant to
follow those ideals – none other.

That is why only naive people carry the false hope that one day
homosexuality will become an accepted and honoured life choice in AM.

SYMPATHY AND UNDERSTANDING NEEDED

Once again sympathy and understanding is needed in all respects – all
should be valued and loved.

Here we are condemning the practice of homosexuality and not homosexuals
per se. We are against the practice – not the person.

Rather we are to extend all sympathies and therapies to guide the person
in the proper manner, away from such pursuits.

BABA’S BLESSING

By Baba’s grace He has given us all the teachings for dharmic life.
Whatever is popular or not popular in the general society has no bearing
on the way things develop in AM. Ours is the path of pure spirituality
and the social representation thereof according to Baba.

Thus when the issue of homosexuality comes to the table, we know exactly
where we stand, irrespective of the current protests and / or proposals
being made in the general society.

Mahendra

Baba

“Pratham jiivane, tumi a’so niko, ta’r la’gi, mane kono klesh na’i…” (PS 379)

Purport:

Baba, You did not come close to me in the dawn of my life; but I do not
have any agony in my mind about why You did not bring me under Your
shelter that time– why You did not come close to me and become very
intimate. For that I do not have any mental anguish or suffering. But I
do have repentance in my heart for why I did not search You that time.
That is why my heart is burning and crying all the time. The fault is
mine that in my early years I did not search You. For that I have deep
remorse.

Baba, that time You were so close to me– living side by side, always.
Even then I did not call You or try to search for You by learning
sadhana. I did not care about that back then. Just my days and nights
passed in vain, doing various useless pursuits that time in the early
stage of my life. Yet, now in the twilight of my life, the more those
early remembrances sprout in mind, the more pain I feel.

Baba, by Your grace everyone comes onto this earth for a short span of
time, for a calculated period. And there are so many works to do. Yet
fruitlessly people waste their time blaming God for their misfortunes–
but there is no benefit in this. Because everyone is facing their own
samskara. When they remove the umbrella of vanity, they will realise
that Your grace is showering eternally. Baba, You are ever gracious;
what You do is best for me. My only desire is to always remain under
Your shelter…

== BOGUS LOGIC ==

Namaskar,
People often think that if they have logic on their side – then
everything is well and fine. Then they feel that their stance is
justified and correct.

However, this needs our special consideration.

EVERYBODY HAS THEIR LOGIC

The Sanskrit word “yukti” means logic. The root “yuj” means to unite.
And when one unites themselves with a particular thought process, that
is their logic. However, such logic can be right or wrong. Because,
everyone has their logic – even those on opposite sides of the same issue.

For instance, pro-choice advocates and anti-abortion activists both have
their logic. Pro-choice’ers say that a woman has a right to make a decision
about her body and that there is no loss of human life whereas right to lifers
argue that one cannot kill a human life yet abortion does just that. So both
sides have their own logic – and the debate roars ahead in that way.

Another hot topic is gay marriage. Those for it proclaim that every human
being has the right to marry while those opposed say that marriage is to be done
only between a man and a woman. Here again, both sides have their logic.

Likewise, politicians “on opposite sides of the aisle” have their own
logic about issues from health care to the economy. Meat eaters and
vegetarians have their logic. Convicted criminals and court justices
both have their logic. Everybody has their logic.

In the aforementioned cases, both parties are not correct. One may be
correct or neither may be correct. It depends. Yet both have their
favoured logic on the very same issue.

Here the point is that logic can lead one to the wrong answer. Period.
So we have to be careful – logic itself is not to be trusted 100% – we
must ensure that our quest for truth goes beyond simple logic.

SAME PROBLEM IN AMPS

At present we have similar issues in AMPS. There are topics on the table
for review, and various parties have their logic. So on any given issue
– court cases, land disputes, book rights etc – each of the groups has
their chosen logic. They all have their ground to stand on, claiming
their view or logic to be correct.

To escape this predicament – to follow the path of dharma – we have to
then go beyond just plain logic.

A CASE IN POINT: MAHAPRAYAN

The main problem is that logic can be formulated around any group,
party, or personal interest. Let’s take the case of mahaprayan.

If we were to walk into the Tiljala campus, then they can give all kinds
of logic as to the importance of mahaprayan. Because their desire is to
earn money, make Kolkata the epicenter of AMPS life, enhance their group
prestige etc, for all these reasons and more, they have huge interest in
making mahaprayan a success.

They may even say that Baba is gone because we do not see Him with our crude
eyes anymore. So they have all kinds of logic and more about this particular
point is addressed in the next subheading.

Yet we all know mahaprayan to be a dogma. Such is the problem with logic.

Thus we need to ensure that logic is not just based on private
interests, but rather represents universal welfare and spiritual values,
i.e. sarva jana hitaya. Then that logic will lead to the proper answer,
otherwise not. Then it will just be bogus logic, nothing more.

For instance, Baba Himself has said that:

1) Parama Purusa is everywhere and in everything;

Baba says, ‘There is no place which is inaccessible to Him. If a person
is at a particular place and has to move to some other place, he will
have to travel. But the Lord is everywhere, and He in reality does not
have to move. In other words, He has so many feet that He is able to
reach any place and be available at all places at all times.” (AV-30)

2) Parama Purusa is timeless;

Baba says, “The one formless, beginningless and infinite Parama Brahma
(Supreme Consciousness) is the only entity to be attained by living
beings – That alone is Jagat Guru (the Supreme preceptor), That alone
has revealed Brahmavidya’ (intuitional science) to us through the medium
of the name and form of Anandamu’rtijii. Unit beings must be made to
appreciate Its majesty.” (CC-2)

3) Parama Purusa always resides in our heart;

Baba says, ” When you are established in devotion, you get Parama’tma’
too. Then you will experience yourselves that Parama’tma’ is seated in
your heart, you will not have to go elsewhere in search of Him.” (SS-19)

4) In addition, Baba has outlined all the needed celebrations in our
Marga and in no place did He mention that mahaprayan should be
celebrated. Rather He specifically warned against observing mahaprayan.

Thus for any logic to be correct on the issue of mahaprayan, then it
must be in keeping and consistent with Baba’s above teachings. It must
be in concert with apta vakya, i.e. the eternal truths as given by Baba.

But the dogma of mahaprayan runs totally contrary to all of Baba’s
stated principles. The groupist mahaprayan celebration mandates that
Baba is gone forever. That is their position. In contrast, in countless
discourses Baba says that He is always with us. Both stands cannot be
correct.

Since Baba’s every word is supreme truth and by definition apta vakya,
then that must be accepted and any other logic discarded.

In that case, all sincere Ananda Margiis will adhere to Baba’s dharmic
teachings and not listen to any other groupist logic in favour of
observing the dogma of mahaprayan.

Because the logic in favour of mahaprayan is just bogus logic guided by
group and party interest, separate from the truth of universal welfare.

LOGIC LIKE MPD BASED ON SENSE PERCEPTION

Relative logic is based on sense perception: what one learns from the
world using their eyes, nose, ears, tongue, and hands etc. This is by
definition limited and mistake prone.

Various groupists saw Baba with their crude eyes and then when their
crude eyes could no longer see Baba, they declared that He is gone, and
voila – mahaprayan.

So their dogmatic logic of mahaprayan is based on their crude sense
perception. So we should never get trapped by this materialistic
approach. Day in and day out people are led in the wrong direction by
sense perception.

Baba says, “Whatever people say they “know” about an object is only
their sense perception, and not real knowledge. And that sense
perception remains unsubstantiated.” (AMIWL-8)

Those then who claim that Baba is gone and give their logic of
mahaprayan are totally misguided, fooled and blinded by the limitations
of their crude sense experience.

Sadhakas of the Marga should instead rely on more subtle ways of
knowing. Guided by intuition and devotion, such bhaktas can feel in
their heart that Baba is there. In that case, how can one claim that He
is gone. That is why no true Ananda Margii follows the dogma of mahaprayan.

The dogma of mahaprayan(MPD) is nothing but the brainchild of dry groupists
who got befooled by their own petty interest and limited sense
experience. Such is their pathetic condition.

And indeed when their logic for MPD is measured against the touchstone of
divine truth and realisation, then very quickly their logic falls on its face and is
proven totally false.

BOGUS LOGIC: MANY SUCH EXAMPLES

To get the truth, logic must be grounded in rationality, universal
welfare and spiritual sentiment. Then that logic will lead one in the
right direction.

Unfortunately now in AMPS, each and every group has their own distinct
logic, i.e. bogus logic. It is not just the B team that suffers from
this syndrome with regards to the dogma of mahaprayan. All groupists
give their phony logic based on narrow sentiments.

1. There are some who will give tons of logic how it was appropriate to
change the by-laws in NY sector. Such persons are not guided by any
welfare motive, but rather by their own group and greedy sentiment.

2. There are some who will detail with all kinds of logic how expulsion
is a needed and proper tool for keeping our Marga clean. But such
logicians are just guided by their personal desire for power etc. That
is the basis of their bogus logic, not AM teachings.

3. And there are people who will justify all kinds of things: Fake
Ananda Vaniis, scripture distortion, eradication of margii rights, fake
BP manual etc. There is no end to their logic. But such logic is not
correct and not in accordance with the dharma of AM. Their paltry views
are just the outcome of group sentiment etc.

In each and every case, on each and every issue, we have to see if a
particular view is based on rationality and represents universal
well-being, i.e. sarva jana hitaya. Then and only then can it be accepted
as proper and true. Then that logic is beneficial.

We should never be swayed by the logic of groupists. Theirs is just
bogus logic and will not lead one along the path of welfare.

FATE OF GROUPISTS IS NOT GOOD

If a person ideates on Parama Purusa and takes His teachings to be true,
then that sadhaka will merge in Him and be one with AM ideology, in
thought, word, and deed. There will not be any difference.

But if one gets glued to groupist logic, then one will stray far from
the universal values of AM and become permanently plastered to their
group. They will bind themselves to the dogmatic logic of group
sentiment. That will be their miserable fate. And there will be no escape.

No one should meet such an ugly destiny.

The only way to save oneself is to wholly divorce oneself from the logic
of all groupist policies like the dogma of mahaprayan and instead follow
the great teachings of Parama Purusa in the form of AM ideology. Then
one’s position in life is safe and secure. Then one will float in His
bliss, otherwise not.

BABA’S BLESSING

By Baba’s grace He has given us perfect and pure teachings in all the
realms of life. His ideology will lead us to the goal. One should keep
all groupist logic – i.e. bogus logic – off to the side, or better yet
in the trash bin. We should only follow His teachings, the ideology of
Ananda Marga – the path of divine intuition.

Baba says, “Logic is a psychic survey. Such a survey may or may not be
correct, therefore it is futile to follow logic blindly… This psychic
survey, embedded in relativity, may or may not be correct. Intuitional
vision is the best logic. Intuitional vision should be your guiding
ideology.” (PNS-15)

Namaskar,
Satiish

Note 1: WHOSE LEGACY IS MORE DANGEROUS

It is worth taking a moment to compare the (mis)deeds of both Rudrananda
and Sarvatmananda as it gives deep insight as to how to prevent our AM
society from further harm.

Essentially, Rudrananda is after power and he has done some nasty things
– no doubt. But when his time on this earth expires, “Rudranandaism”
will be gone. His negative legacy will be nil, i.e. not long lasting.
Because he has only chased after post and power for himself and after
his time on this earth that chase will be done, without any real
lingering effects.

Of course, here we are not wishing or waiting for anyone’s expiration,
rather our aim is their rectification. So the above is a mere analysis,
nothing more.

Then there is Sarvatmananda. In stark contrast, his actions will have a
long(er) lasting effect and will probably stand for some time after his
life terminates. Why? Because “Sarvatmanandaism” is focused on systemic
manipulation of organisation and ideology, not just his personal lust
for power. Sarvatmananda also has the goal of Bangalisation & WT
superiority. To that end he has ruined the BP Manual, invented Fake
Ananda Vaniis, founded the dogma of Mahaprayan, ruined countless Hindi
and English discourses, invented expulsion as a weapon, eradicated the
ACB, and indulged in countless other horrific activities.

That is why Sarvatmananda’s “legacy” will be far worse than that of
Rudrananda. It will take time and effort to clean-up the mess made by
Sarvatmananda whereas the dirt created by Rudrananda will get swept away
at the time of his own death.

That is the chief difference between the two.

On personal basis, I have no ill will against either of these Dadas, rather I
think fondly of them as my elder brothers. Only my comments refer to
the repercussions of their misdeeds.

We should be cent-per-cent vigilant not to let anyone distort or change
Baba’s eternal guidelines. In this critical time, that is our main duty:
To keep Guru’s teachings in tact.

Baba

“Toma’ke ja’y na’ bhola’…” (P.S. 2347)

Purport:

Baba, by Your grace You have bound me in Your divine attraction– love.
Always I am calling and thinking about You, yet You are not satiating my
heart’s desire by coming close. Baba, when I long for You and the feeling
of melancholy is unbearable then my heart begins to ache. Baba, in that
longing and pain, the feeling comes in my mind that it is best just to
forget You. Because then at least the pain which is lingering due to Your
absence will not remain any longer. But the more and more I think that I
should forget You, then my deep longing and yearning for You only
intensifies– and my heart becomes more and more restless to get You. Baba,
I am longing for Your causeless grace, please come…

== SHOULD PROSTITUTION BE LEGAL ==

Namaskar,
Should prostitution be legal? It may sound like a moot point, a foregone
conclusion, or even an outlandish suggestion, especially in the minds of
Ananda Margiis; but it may be something we are all confronted with more and
more in the near future– both outside and inside AM. So we should all be
ready with the appropriate & Proutistic response.

MAYBE NOT SO OUTLANDISH AFTER ALL

Many margii readers may surely be thinking that ‘the oldest profession’–
ie prostitution, has no legs to stand on and is a thing of the past; and
‘there is no way that it will come to be accepted in AM circles’. And
hopefully so, even then we should be aware of societal trends as they
sometimes have a habit of sneaking our way.

As is commonly seen, in some parts of the globe– like Europe, parts of
Asia & elsewhere etc– the sex industry, and with it prostitution, is
gaining both (a) greater popularity, and believe it or not, (b)
acceptability as well.

Why popularity? Well for one thing it is a “great money-maker”. And in this
capitalistic era, where money is king, then that is enough for some
sections of the business world to embrace it. Consider this statistic:

“Prostitution is legal in the Netherlands, and the sex industry
has revenues estimated at nearly US $1 billion a year.”

And the Netherlands is one of the smallest countries on the planet–
imagine the size of the profit if it were legalised in China. And, indeed,
at present in China, the dark way of prostitution is being resorted to more
and more by young rural girls who are looking to make their way in the world.

“Fifteen years ago [in China], you didn’t find sex workers
in remote areas and cities. But now it’s prevalent in
every city, every county.”

Given this, it may be just a matter of time before certain industrialists
capitalise on it. So that is a mere glimpse of the popular perspective from
certain financiers.

And from the perspective of the general populace, prostitution is something
that is not so under the table anymore. Amongst ‘users’ it is also rising
in popularity.

“One of the most popular attractions is the Highway
from Dresden Germany to Prague. It’s lined with
hundreds of Brothels and thousands of independents
working along the highway.”
“The world’s oldest profession is highly visible in Berlin.
As night falls, the ladies of the night parade the
Oranienburger Strasse in the heart of the capital.”

So in various regions of the world– either due to economic woe in former
Communist countries, sexual repression in the Middle East, or sexual
acceptance in Europe or Singapore etc– there is a growing market and
interest in prostitution. So much so that even legal magistrates are
changing their tune.

“A recent decision by a Berlin judge could well trigger a
change in Germany’s attitude towards prostitution…
Judge Percy Maclean said the profession was now
broadly accepted.”

Thus in this debauched era, in some nations even the courts are giving way
to the tidings of prostitution.

PROGRESSIVES EMBRACE SUCH FREEDOM

And perhaps, the most dangerous thing about this trend towards prostitution
is that it is being embraced by certain ‘western progressives’. In the name
of ‘freedom’ and ‘open-mindedness’, more and more are thinking that
prostitution is ok. They reason, ‘Let the people do what they want’ and
‘Why should we be confined to narrow-minded Christian beliefs’ etc. Hence,
just as the right to abortion and gay marriages have become the happy song
and voting ticket of countless so-called progressives, prostitution may not
be lagging far behind. This issue also they will soon champion, if they
haven’t already.

And if nothing else this spells t-r-o-u-b-l-e in the general society, and
even within AM.

THERE IS A PRECEDENCE

By now, some may be thinking that what is the need to discuss this on our
Marga forum. Prostitution is not a new issue and why should we be concerned
about it.

Well for one thing, we are responsible for the proper growth and
development of humanity and we should know its trends. So when prostitution
is rearing its ugly head more and more, then we should be aware. And
secondly, and perhaps a touch scarier, is that there is an ongoing trend
that what becomes popular with the so-called western progressives also
gains acceptance in AM. That is the history.

For evidence of this, we need not look any further than the issue of
homosexuality. This is clearly a thing that, in theory, is not at all
supported by AM ideology, yet its toes have entered the front door of
Ananda Marga, and it is no secret how this has happened.

In the western mind-set, homosexuality has gained huge momentum such that
gay marriages or same-sex marriages are not only becoming more and more
prevalent, but they are becoming legal in many states and countries
throughout the western world. And many heterosexual progressives blatantly
support this as they think it makes them look more broad-minded, since by
this way they are going directly against the Christian beliefs & the
Catholic church, both of which are looked upon by ‘progressives’ as being
stagnant in the social sphere. So for this reason homosexuality has become
a major force in western social and political circles.

And it does not stop there, from this ‘progressive’ front, such ideas about
homosexuality have leaked into, if not spilled into, Ananda Marga. Because
now not only are various Ananda Margiis less apt to say or think that
homosexuality should be addressed and treated as a social disease, as Baba
says it should; but in our Marga, various outspoken activists and
self-proclaimed lesbians are given a high place in our AM society. They are
treated as ‘icons’ in some regards.

And the source of this problem stems from the fact that so-called
progressives in the west hail the cause of homosexuality. Even various
Hollywood stars like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie refuse to marry until
gays enjoy the same right to marriage in each and every state, city, and
town. So it has become ‘hip’ to support homosexuality– it defines one as
being “open-minded”.

And this very defective mind-set has crept into AM. Some in the Marga have
gotten caught up in the chase along with western ‘progressives’ such that
those same fashionable outlooks like “homosexuality go, go, go” have snuck
into AM.

Please excuse me for saying so but some of our Dadas are have very
recently been involved in homosexual realtionships. But because homosexuality
is so accepted in the general society, when a Wt indulges then it is
not seen as such a bad thing. (Note the aforesaid case is well known
and I have the details and first-hand information.)

And if we are not careful, the way things are going, within 2, 5, or 10
years, in AM we may see a similar acceptance of prostitution– all because
it has been accepted by certain western progressives.

It may seem like a far-off scenario, but actually it may be closer than we
think. And best is to get our stance straight from the very beginning, lest
some get sucked into the so-called progressive western mind-set, as has
happened with the issue of homosexuality.

A QUICK CLARIFICATION

Just to clarify, our perspective in AM is not that homosexuals should be
shunned & banned forever and ever; rather according to Baba such persons
should be rectified and treated. Because theirs is not a natural way to
live and we should not let our brothers and sisters fall prey to this
approach.

With full compassion, our manner is to adopt a stance against this abnormal
way of life and through 16 Points guide such people how to mend their ways.
And our view should be made clear and must not be at all ambiguous or
contradictory. We should stick to our AM ideals, and have full empathy
towards those lesbians and help them to be cured.

BACK TO THE MAIN TOPIC

All this goes to show that the issues supported by ‘progressive western
intellectuals’ has a habit of sinking into AM. So we should be careful.
Because as prostitution is becoming more and more rampant around the globe
due to so many defective trends such as the massive numbers of refugees,
poverty, pseudo-culture, and a crude fascination with sex, its prevalence
is allowing it to gain acceptance into the so-called progressive
think-tank. Little by little this is happening. And we do not want the next
step being that some in AM also start thinking that prostitution is fine
and well so that they will be embraced as being ‘open-minded’ by various
so-called progressives. That is the main issue, or potential issue if we
look a touch further down the road.

THE ERA IN WHICH WE LIVE

In this degraded era of Kali Yuga when so many crude vices are cropping up
in so many aspects of our social life, our standard is to stick to AM
ideals and now be swayed by any so-called progressives. Surely, on one is
AM supports the notion of prostitution but as the thinking of society
changes, no one in our Marga should get swayed, for any reason.

Here then are but a few of Baba’s strict guidelines on this matter. So just
as in the case of homosexuality, Baba’s approach towards prostitution is
equally clear.

Baba says, “The repugnant social disease of prostitution is also a creation
of the vaeshyas. As a result of excessive wealth the vaeshyas lose their
self-control and their character on the one hand; and many unfortunate
women are forced by poverty to descend to this sinful occupation on the
other hand.” (HS-2)

Baba says, “Because of injustices against women with respect to their
social rights and because women are economically crippled, a section of
women is compelled to take to prostitution. Although there are many causes
of this profession, these are the main two. Ananda Marga recognizes that
women are as dignified human beings as men. Ananda Marga, in addition,
wants to encourage women to be economically independent of men. The system
in which characterless men swagger about in society while fallen women are
denied proper opportunities despite their sincere desire to lead an honest
life, can never be supported by justice.” (28 January 1958 RU, Trimohan)

BABA’S BLESSING

By Baba’s grace as we spread the ideals of AM to the four corners, our
universal human family will grow in a sentient and nice way and recognise
the inherent value of all.

Baba says, “In this new society based on Neohumanism, everyone will find
their life worth living. All will regain their lost positions of honour.”

Special Formula of Tandava

Baba says, “Tandava: As long as a dancer remains above the ground, he
derives much benefit; when he touches the ground, then those benefits are
assimilated by the body. That is why in the tandava dance there is much
jumping, because jumping requires the practitioner to remain off the ground
for a fairly long period of time.” (NSS, p. 23)

Subject: Gay Marriage: Stand of A’nanda Ma’rga
From: Jiivendra

Baba

“Ja’du nagariiya’ se a’ya’ hya’y ek ja’dugar…” (PS 4062)

Purport:

The Parama Purusa, the Divine Musician from the magical world of music has come. Look all around. Now everything is dancing in His love. Everyone’s heart is filled with His love. The whole universe is dancing, the waves of the ocean are dancing, the black bee is also dancing on the flowers.

Everyone is intoxicated with His love– knowingly or unknowingly they are dancing in His flow. Oh the Parama Purusa divine Musician, what have You done. The hearts which were sleeping in frustration, they have bloomed again. They have gotten new life. The spirituality which was lost, You brought it back. The resonance of the Cosmic vibration is audible everywhere. The music is filled inside and out. Oh Parama Purusa You have filled this entire universe with Your love…
== GAY MARRIAGE: STAND OF A’NANDA MA’RGA ==
Namaskar,
Each and every day in the courts, in congress, in coffee shops, in
bookstores, and in the town hall, heated debates are going on about
gay-lesbian or same sex marriages. All are getting involved: Politicians,
“progressives”, church officials, professionals, students, and of course
gays and lesbians. Some say “YES”, some say “NO”, and some say “I DON’T
KNOW”. All together this issue of gay marriage is a pervasive topic in the
society, especially in our western, materialistic countries.
WE SHOULD KNOW OUR STAND
As A’nanda Ma’rgiis, it is important for us to know our AM / Proutistic
stand on each and every social issue. Because by this way we will be able
to implement Baba’s divine ideals and solve society’s problems at large.
So when in certain parts of the globe the issue of Gay-Lesbian marriage has become such a burning topic, we should investigate the matter and pointedly understand and formulate our ideological stand– based on Baba’s teachings, of course.

That way, now and in the future, we can help the society move ahead in the proper direction. Plus it will allow us in AMPS to hold a unified stance on the issue.

So gaining clarity about Baba’s position about gay-lesbian marriages holds numerous benefits.

LET’S TAKE A LOOK HOW IT BECAME A HOT TOPIC
As we explore this topic of gay marriage– i.e. marriage between a man and a man, or between a woman and a woman– we should first take a look at some of the foundational points of materialistic life. Because this will give us insight into why in the west the issue of same sex marriages has gained so much momentum and come to the fore.

And we should also recognise that off-shoots of this are beginning to
sprout in China, India, and other countries– as materialism spreads more and more. So this topic of gay marriage is multiplying and fast becoming a global issue. This we are all going to see– and are seeing.

So we should know our AM stand on this important issue. Because as things like gay and lesbian marriages spread in the society then they all tend to creep into AM. And this we are seeing at this very moment. So in numerous ways, and in various angles, this issue of gay marriage is going to affect and touch us all.

That is why we can say it is a burning issue and demands our utmost care
and attention so we can give a reasonable and rational solution- thereby
helping one and all.

A QUICK CLARIFICATION
Before writing anything further let it be known that no person in our human family is bad or depraved, per se. In AM, we do not believe that criminals are inherently bad nor do we believe that people are “bad” based on their sexual orientation. So our approach is not about labeling people, but rather about seeing the divine within all. That is why we focus on recognising those life practices which Baba espouses: So that our human potential can be realised and the best human society can be built. That is the chief aim of this entire discussion.
BASIS OF LIFE IN MATERIALISTIC COUNTRIES
As we delve into the matter of gay marriages, we should take a look at the
fertile ground in which it has taken root by examining the way of life in
our materialistic countries.

While in AM our approach to life is basically spiritual, in stark contrast,
in the crude, capitalistic society, sex has become the way of life. That is
the overriding emphasis in life and society: Sexual appeal, sexual
relations, sexual looks, and sexual dealings. People rake in huge profits
off of sex and people’s self-image is based primarily on sexual allurement, especially women. Because the misguided idea reigns that the ultimate satisfaction in life is achieved by sex– not through any other way. In the materialistic approach, they do not believe there is anything higher than sex.

So sex is one of the main forces in materialistic life. This is evidenced
by nearly every image in the society: On the billboards, on the TV, in the
movies, in social relations, and in all the ways crude sex has taken hold
of every aspect of life. Such are the degraded and lowly ways of
materialistic life.

Hence although human desires are infinite, due to a lack of spirituality,
in the materialistic societies they try to satisfy their human longing
through sex.

THE MATERIALISTIC VIEW OF MARRIAGE
So when sex holds such a high place in the society, in that case, in this
materialistic era, especially in our western countries, the institution of
marriage is grounded in the idea of being a legalised sexual union between two people. For years and years this has meant a legalised sexual union between a man and a woman, i.e. a heterosexual marriage.

Here the critical point is that in materialism, the basis or the foundation
of the marriage system is sex. Marriage allows for two persons to carry out sexual relations in an “upstanding way” in the society. And whatever else they wish to do in their married life is entirely up to them. No greater responsibility is involved.

Marriage then becomes nothing but a ticket for becoming accepted sexual partners in the society. That is the way it works in the materialistic west. Because sexual satisfaction is the aim of such marriage, not raising children nor building a strong society. These outcomes, such as children, are nothing but the by-product of sexual oriented marriages. Children are not the main thing in materialistic marriages. But in AM, raising healthy, idealistic children is the aim of our marriage system. That is the vast difference between our AM and the materialistic nations.

WHY GAYS AND LESBIANS ALSO WANT TO MARRY
So in certain western countries where marriage is just an avenue for sexual deeds, step by step, gays and lesbians are forming the opinion then that they should also be allowed to marry and be looked upon as upstanding citizens in the society.

Because the gay and lesbian communities argue that when marriage in the general society itself means a legalised sexual union between two people, then why should there be discrimination about whom those two people are.

Why not extend those rights of a sexually based marriage to everyone. Why not allow a gay marriage between a man and a man, or lesbian marriage between a woman and a woman. Let these types of same sex couples also partake in this marriage system, since sex is the main prerequisite. Why should there be discrimination that only a male and a female can marry. This is the main logic that gays and lesbians put forth about why they should be allowed to marry.

Because when the whole materialistic society is based on sexual involvement and when those male-female marriages are based solely on sex, then naturally gays and lesbians feel that they should also be allowed to marry.

Because they see that when sex is the chief ingredient in forming a marriage, then gays and lesbians feel that they are worthy candidates for marriage– since they satisfy that prerequisite of sexual relations.

Indeed gays and lesbians have gotten so much momentum in this regard that so-called progressive citizens in these materialistic countries have also adopted this stance. Because they also know that marriage in the materialistic countries is a sexual engagement. In that case such heterosexual progressives wrongly reason that if a man and woman have the legal right to hold sexual relations, then gays and lesbians should also have this same sexual freedom and social right. So they also say that marriage should be offered to gay and lesbian couple also. After all, why should we discriminate against anyone. This is their so-called open-minded view of things. This is their “progressive” outlook. All because in the materialistic societies they see sex as being the basis of marriage. But of course in AM we know that marriage has a higher purpose and sex is for procreation– for producing children– not for rampantly satisfying one’s carnal pleasures.

Of course the church and political conservatives have their own narrow-minded reasons for holding an oppositional stance. So this battle is going on between them and those pro-gay marriage activists.

But, all in all, it can be seen that, the tide in society is moving towards the stance of legalising gay and lesbian marriages. Because when marriage in materialistic societies is only based on the sex, then the point comes that therefore anyone doing any type of sex should be allowed to marry.

This is the faulty conclusion that results– all because marriage in the west is based on the idea that sexual relations are everything. There is no higher idea in mind.

Whereas in AM we know that marriage is a beautiful avenue for building a healthy society and sexual relations are used just as a means to bring children into the world.

WHY SOME MARGIIS ALSO GET CONFUSED
Even then as this debate about gay marriage spills over into our AM discussions at our retreats etc, then some simple margiis have also formed their own opinions.

They reason that since Baba has granted equal rights to all and since He has proclaimed that there should not be any differentiation in the society, then in that case what moral right do we have but to extend the institution of marriage to gays and lesbians. This is the way some naive margiis view the situation.

Because when the common public is involved in sexual romance marriages, then a few margiis also get confused. And not only do they support gay marriage in the greater society but they approve of it in AM as well. That is why today in Berlin and Suva sectors, gay marriages are going on in the open. Margii sisters are marrying other sisters. And many confused margiis lend their support. Silently or openly they are accepting these gay marriages in AM.

But by this way those confused margiis forget that in AM the institution of marriage is not based on sex. And they fail to realise what Baba means by equal rights and no discrimination. That is why they misapply Baba’s teachings by accepting gay marriages.

So all in all, in various regards, there is mounting confusion over this entire issue of gay marriage– both inside and outside our Marga.

But if we take a more careful, holistic look at Baba’s teachings then the matter becomes crystal clear.

WAY OF LIFE IN AM
As we know, in AM, life means movement along the divine path– the path of bliss. Our unique philosophy stands on this blessed sutra:
A’tmamoks’a’rtham’ jagaddhita’ya ca
So in our Marga and in our social framework, each and every aspect of life revolves around this special ideal. How we eat, how we sing, how we work, how we pass our days etc. Each and every action is infused with this spirit self-realisation and service to humanity, including our approach to marriage and family life.

Because our AM way of life moves ahead on this grand mission of spiritual attainment and social welfare.

THE STAND OF ANANDA MARGA ON GAY MARRIAGES
Thus when sex itself is not the basis of all our social interactions, then
naturally the institution of marriage takes on a whole new flavour. Because in AM marriage is not a mere passage way for sexual relations. Rather marriage is a dignified institution for building a strong and healthy society. Marriage is the pathway for raising children in healthy
environment with a stable home that includes both a father and a mother. This is Baba’s guideline (Reference NSS, Disc 4, 7, 8, 9).

Because in AM, the marriages are for supporting one another in a spiritual way so that when it is time to procreate then the husband and the wife will be able to raise their children in a sentient and spiritual way. Thus marriage is the building block for generating a strong, well-knit human family.

So spirituality is the basis of our AM marriages and the purpose of such
union is for society building– not sex for the sake of sex.
For all these reasons in our AM, we cannot support gay and lesbian
marriages. Because those marriages are based only on sex– they have no
redeeming social value; they are not for society building.

Once again the whole problem about gay marriages stems from the fact that marriage in western materialistic countries is based on sex.

But when we reflect on this point more deeply and realise the true aim and value of marriage in AM– that it is for society building– then there is
no scope for there to be gay and lesbian marriage, neither inside the Marga nor out.

Rather with tender heart and understanding way we should work with gay and lesbian people to engage more deeply in a spiritual approach and side by side we should experiment with the best counseling techniques to give support to those in the homosexual community so they might develop and grow in a healthy way.

BABA’S BLESSING
Here is Baba’s blessing that ensures that marriage be a stable and bonafide institution for building a healthy human society.

Baba says, “The Sanskrit equivalent for marriage is viva’ha (vi – vah +
ghain): it means, after the ceremony, the man and woman can no longer live as libertines or as irresponsible so-called family people. They have to discharge their full obligations as bhartta’ and kalatra, responsible
husband and responsible wife.” (NSS: Disc 9)

Namaskar,
Jiivendra

Note: HOW AM AND THE CHURCH DIFFER ON THIS ISSUE
Although the Christian church does not support gay and lesbian marriages, we cannot say that the church is in line with the ideals of Ananda Marga. Because since long the church has adopted the view that females are mere objects of enjoyment for men. Often the church has demoralised the stance of women. In that case we cannot at all proclaims that their dogmatic view is consistent with the AM dharma. This is a whole other chapter of discussion, but in a nutshell this is what it all boils down to.

Need of the Day
Baba says, “The newly awakened humanity of today is anxious to herald the advent of one universal society under the vast blue sky. The noble and righteous persons of all countries, bound by fraternal ties, are eager to assert in one voice, with one mind, and in the same tune that human society is one and indivisible.” (AFPS, pt 2 p.25)

Note: Nowadays in our Marga society, a few are forgetting this truth. They should understand that this is not in the favour of dharma. Rather the call of dharma is to form one human society.
