Subject: Brain Replacement And Living Forever

Since the very beginning, human beings have been seeking immortality. Some sought the fountain of youth, others miracle cures in nature or boons from the gods. Today, humanity believes it has found its ticket to immortality: modern medical science.

People think by replacing their organs – one after another – the day is not far when they will command their own life’s destiny and longevity. Indeed the rich and wealthy think that medical science is on the cusp of curing each and every ailment.

Such materialists have already fallen into the false hope that what they have in this world will last forever, so now their inner heart’s desire is to find a materialistic pathway for their own immortality. However far they are willing to openly admit this or not, but their entire life approach speaks to this desire. They have put all their stock in it.

Such a misguided estimation is nothing but fool’s paradise.

In Ananda Marga, Baba has given the correct analysis and solution to this issue of immortality. As margiis we should understand both the place and limitation of today’s medical science as well as know the proper way to become immortal.

There is no doubt about it: Medical science has progressed.

If a knee goes bad, put in a new one. If your kidney becomes diseased, get a transplant. If the heart becomes problematic, no problem, they can rebuild it, replace it, or insert a machine.

The advances of medical science are quite staggering and impressive.

The day is not far when a person might lose their leg in an accident only to have it replaced by a preserved leg from a previously living human. Things are moving ahead that quickly.

Indeed, there are lots and lots of options and new discoveries in today’s world of modern medicine. So many organs can be replaced and transplanted. And this science is only going to become more refined and more developed.

Even then modern medicine has its limitations. It may extend life a few years and even increase the quality thereof, but it cannot make a person immortal. That can never, ever happen.

The dreamy vision of such materialists is bound to burst into pieces.

The critical matter in all of this is that every organ – including the brain – will die, at some point in time or another. And while most decaying or dead organs can be replaced and one can go on living, when the brain dies, this is not possible.

When the brain dies then that is the end of that human life. If the brain is replaced, then that being will be an entirely different person – with an entirely different personality and with a whole new set of samskaras.

That then is the beginning and the end of this discussion on human immortality. The brain is an organ – it is subject to death – replacing it does not extend the life of that person. That is Baba’s distinct formula. (Reference: ‘The Omnipotent and Omnipresent Consciousness’ & so many other discourses)

So no matter how far medical science advances, no matter how tall the desire is of such materialists, there is no hope that human life can become immortal. The brain is subject to disease and death and replacing it will not renew that human life.

Indeed today with the rising complexity of human life, brain disease are on the rise: dementia, schizophrenia, strokes, etc. Some basic treatment can be successfully attempted, but after all the brain will die one day and when it does it cannot be replaced as a means to regenerate that particular human life.

Here are Baba’s quotes as proof of the above equation that once the brain dies then that human life is over, hence there is no such thing as being immortal in this world.

(#1) In this first quote Baba guides us that the brain is an organ that does in fact die.

Baba says, “A dead person’s body has a brain, but it does not function because it is dead and there is no mind in it.” (Ananda Marga Philosophy – 1)

(#2) Here below Baba explains that replacing the brain means creating a new human being with its own unique personality.

Baba says, “The different parts of the body of a biological babe can be replaced, but the brain cannot be replaced, for it is a brain with a particular set of sam’ska’ras, and hence replacement of the brain would mean replacement of the personality. The brain is a collection of nerve cells, the totality of which is the personality. It is not possible to change the brain without changing the nerve cells and consequently the personality.” (Prout in a Nutshell – 15)

(#3) Here Baba makes His definitive statement that replacing the brain means creating an entirely new person

Baba says, “As a result of the replacement of the brain, the mind, with all its reactive momenta, will have to take a completely new receptacle, and in that case the person will be an entirely new being.” (A Few Problems Solved – 2)

The case then is quite clear. Because the brain is a bodily organ subject to disease and death, and because transplanting the brain would mean the creation of an entirely different and new human being, there is no question of anyone gaining immortality in this material world. It is absolutely impossible and no phenomenal medical discovery can change this fact.

People enter this world and wrongly conclude that this is their permanent abode and that they will remain here forever. They plan and
live as if they are going to be here forever. They build strong houses, gather riches, and do so many things in hopes of making this world their permanent home.

Little do they know or wish to admit that either they will lose those possessions or those possessions will outlive them. There is not other option.

Baba says, ““Jagat sa’ks’iiru’pam’” – the Universe is called “jagat” in Sam’skrta. “Gam” means to move. Here in the Universe, nothing is stationary, nothing is fixed. Everything moves; that’s why this universe is called jagat. Movement is its dharma; movement is its property.” (Ananda Vacanamrtam – 1)

Hence, there is no chance of creating permanence in this mobile universe. It can never happen. Everything is on the move: What comes will one day go.

Baba says, “Some people believe that money and wealth will greatly help them in life but they are mistaken because wealth and riches are limited. A finite entity comes and goes; it has a beginning and end. How can it help you? Thus, the physical body, wealth, riches and clothes cannot give you any lasting assistance.” (Ananda Vacanamrtam – 7)

Here Baba reveals to us the secret of how to attain immortality.

Baba says, “Except for Parama’tma’, all objects of this universe are mortal. So to be established in immortality, what will one have to do? One will have to awaken one’s pointed intellect, and in due course that awakened pointed intellect will merge into Supreme Consciousness, Parama Caetanya. This is the state of attainment of immortality.” (Subhasita Samgraha – 21)

Thus the only way to attain immortality is by goading all our psychic and spiritual potentialities towards the Supreme and taking shelter in Him.

Here again is Baba’s strict edict in this regard.

Baba says, “It is absolutely meaningless to attempt to attain immortality or absolute bliss in any way other than by ideating on the
Eternal one.” (Ananda Marga Ideology and Way of Life – 7)

Baba has graciously blessed all human beings with the innate desire to attain lasting peace (immortality). None should fall in the pitiful trap of thinking that this transitory world can be their permanent place. None should get befooled into thinking that their human body will live on and on. Thinking in these defective ways means wasting one’s precious human life. To fulfill our desire of eternal life and endless bliss one must take shelter in Him.

The idea of replacing the brain and living forever is not an option.

Baba says, “Human beings can hope to attain everlasting peace by knowing You [Parama Purusa] who are everyone’s own, who are the most favourable to one and all. Now lasting peace, that is, a’tyantikii sha’nti, is that permanent peace which does not vanish after two or three days. Peace which is everlasting, which leads to eternal well-being, is a’tyantikii sha’nti. Only by knowing that Parama Purus’a can one attain eternal peace. There is no alternative.” (Ananda Vacanamrtam – 31)

Baba says, “O human beings, you are fortunate. The clarion call of the Universal has reached you. Not only has the call come, but you are hearing it and it is vibrating in every cell of your body. Will you now lie in the corner of your house as an inert being and waste your time by clinging to old skeletons and bemoaning them? The Supreme Being is calling you in the roar of the ocean, in the thunder of the clouds, in the speed of lightning, in the meteor’s flaming fires. Nothing good will come from idleness. Get up and awake the clouded chivalry of your dormant youth. It may be that the path is not strewn with flowers and that inferiority complex will be attempting to hold fast your each advancing step, but even then you have to proceed onwards tearing the shroud of darkness. You will tear the thick darkness of despair as you advance in the racing chariot radiant with the sun’s brilliance towards the attainment of the Supreme state.” (Subhasita Samgraha – 1)

Tattvadarshrii Deva

Baba says, “At the time of initiation or shortly afterwards, those who do not have a Sanskrit name should be given one by the ácárya/á. The word deva should be suffixed to the name…the more the usage of deva as a title, the better it is. The Sanskrit name should be used in all worldly dealings.” (Caryacarya-1)

“Tumi ekat’u ka’che eso, a’r ekat’ukha’ni heso…” (PS 1909)

Baba, please grace me by coming a little more close, and please smile softly. Baba, by Your grace, my penance to get You will remove the cimmerian darkness of my mind. That I know. O’ my Dearmost, please shower your sweet and charming smile like a full moon.

I know this cimmerian darkness of my mind is not eternal. So much mental blackness and so many stains come and go from my mind – hundreds of times. Yet this deep, all around pitch darkness, pervading everywhere, will leave, keeping its head low in defeat. Baba, by Your grace I will be victorious. O’ Gracious One, Your love brings divine effulgence – not darkness.

By Your grace, I will not accept defeat at any cost. I will remain holding only Your lotus feet. Whatever people may say, whatever may happen, I will remain pure and blemishless, by Your grace. Baba, You are my beginning and my end– You are my Goal.

Baba, please come close and grace me with Your divine love…

Subject: Re: Tips for Relieving Tension in Day to Day Life
Date: Mon 09 Apr 2012 21:51:35 -0000

Yes, I appreciate the views expressed in this letter:

>The speed of science is progressing fast yet the mind is not developing
>at the same rate. So there is a serious maladjustment. The result is psychic
>tension. We have to do something to enhance the quality of the mind: To make
>it stronger. That solution is sadhana, i.e. psycho-spiritual practice.
>When one does sincere sadhana, the mind gets stronger and stronger.
>Then one is ready to face all kinds of problems and difficulties.
>And not only that, those very same challenges are no longer problematic.
>That is why sadhana is verily the key for relieving, even eliminating,
>the daily tensions and stress of modern living. All because one has a
>base in life – the base of spirituality. This brings mental strength
>and balance.

That was a very good read (reference letter of 02 April) and here following are some further thoughts. First however is a point-wise summary of the conversation up till this point.

1. Because of the advancement of science life has become more complex and faster than ever before;

2. Nowadays, people have to deal with so much more information as well as tighter time schedules;

3. This heightened speed and complexity has created more psychic tension for the populace;

4. Even seemingly simple, day to day problems, are beyond the ability of people to solve;

5. So although physical life is comparatively easier than before, the huge pressure and tension in the mental realm weigh mightily on the common person.

6. The solution is sadhana – by making the mind stronger and more balanced through meditation, one will be able to manage and thrive in today’s complex world without suffering from psychic tension.

This is indeed the era of stress. I see this in friends, family, colleagues, and people on the street. It wears on their face, their eyes, their demeanor and their outlook. They do not seem to find any escape; rather their tension only mounts.

Here following is more about the solution given in the first letter: By doing sadhana and increasing the capacity of mind, one will not feel overwhelmed by the speed and complexity of modernity.

We have to remember that just getting initiation into Ananda Marga sadhana is not enough. If we are not pointed in our meditation practice then we will suffer the consequences of various mental problems. If we do not do sadhana, then the mind may not have the requisite capacity to handle the increasing speed of worldly life. In which case we will be at risk of feeling overwhelmed and depressed.

These are not brain diseases but rather psychic diseases: Everything from anger, frustration, and stress to those larger issues which leads one to the brink of a total mental meltdown.

What is even scarier is that those suffering from the early onsets of these psychic diseases may not even recognise it. That disease will grow and grow. it may present as simply as being short-tempered with those around us, to having headaches or so many other common ailments like stress. If untreated with sadhana, a stage may come when we move closer to having a nervous breakdown or other serious mental ailments.

So we must be very serious and sincere in doing sadhana and Sixteen Points.

Baba guides us that a psychic disease is a disorder wherein the the mind feels overwhelmed due to an improper manner of thinking. There is no organic or physical problem. Only one is stuck in defective ways of thinking and that affects their whole psyche. Here follow Baba gives us the solution.

Baba says, “One of the numerous benefits of sadhana is that it keeps the mind free from psychic disease and encourages the natural growth of the mind…You must remain vigilant so that in your individual life you do not become the victim of a psychic disease. (A Few Problems Solved-7, The Faculty of Knowledge-3)

Here below is a link to the initial letter on this topic:

“D’a’k diye diye bolechile jege ot’ho je a’cho ghumiye…” (PS 2773)

O’ Lord, You gave the clarion call to those sleeping in the cimmerian darkness: They were plunged in the spell of avidya maya, thinking that this material world is everything. With Your divine call You told them ‘Awake, arise – follow the path of bliss’. Your divine call saturated the sky, air, and even the shade of the tree in the desert. That call resonated from the dust of the earth to the top of the mountain, from the height of the hills to the bottom of the ocean, from the burning desert to the snow-filled peaks – everywhere.

That very call of the Divine Entity vibrated throughout the hot dry sand to the riverbank and across the young green grass in the forest. It echoed in all the ten directions. That divine call reached to the flower petals in the depths of the heart and it vibrated the braids of the hair– the entire existence.

Carrying the nectar of the river of love, the clarion call saturated the glow of the evening sun. It also spanned across the whole horizon as well as in the direction of the eastern sunrise.

Baba, Your divine call changed everything from staticity to divinity…

When the divine vibration of Parama Purusa touches the devotee’s heart then it feels like Parama Purusa is directly calling the devotee with His own voice. These below passages from Baba’s discourses echo the theme of the above Prabhat Samgiita – wherein His clarion call is resounding everywhere.

[#1] Baba says, “In the crimson rays of the early dawn floats the trumpet sound from the distant blue void. The call resounds: Arise, awake and waste no time in sleep. Tear off the fog of dogma and march on smashing under your feet the sky-kissing challenges of the rocky mountains. Remember that victory does not come by itself. Victory has to be invited and welcomed with sweat, the warmth of the blood and the fiery flames of hard labour. The task you have undertaken has to be brought to its consummation. When the mission is noble victory is sure to come. So do not sit inert wasting your valuable time. Be ready to give a fitting response to the clarion call of the cosmos. Be ready from this very moment.” (A’nanda Va’nii #70)

[#2] Baba says, “Ignoring all the obstacles on the way, you must rush towards the real destination– Parama Purus’a. His sweet call rushes towards you since eternity. Can you disregard that Supreme call and keep yourself engrossed in the petty world created by Ma’ya’?” (Tattva Koumudi – 2)

[#3] Baba says, “From time immemorial you have been listening to the sweetness of His divine call. Can you remain oblivious to it, engrossed in your little world created by Ma’ya’?” (Ananda Marga Ideology Way of Life-6)

“With cosmic ideation set out from the starting point of moralism and advance towards supreme realization. Your feet may bleed, cut by the thorns scattered on the road, the sky, rent asunder by the lightning and crashing thunder of the fearful storm, may fall on your head, but proceed you must. You are a born fighter, To flee the battle in fear and hide like a corpse in the hills is ultravirous to your existential vitality. You must advance towards the Supreme Entity, your original abode, smashing all obstacles on the path.” (Ananda Marga Ideology Way of Life-6)

[#4] Baba says, “O’ human beings, you are fortunate.

Ananda Marga has Spread and is Spreading Across Various Planets

Baba says, “The small nucleus of an organisation which we first started at Jamalpur has extended its circumference far beyond the small frontiers of that small town, and has now spread all over the world. It has furthermore spread across many different planets and is still continuing to spread to many more.” (Morning General Darshan, Library Hall, Patna, 3 January 1979. Transcribed from the original Hindi discourse of Baba.)

“Toma’re khunjechi a’mi jina’ne, karme, darshanete…” (PS no. 4545)

Baba I have searched You on the path of knowledge, on the path of
action, and on the path of philosophy. While doing so my heart remained
dry like the desert. I could not get any feeling. But by Your grace You
have given me this much sense– You made me understand that You have
deep love for me. That is why You have brought me on this earth so that
I can love You. All these days I was not searching You in the world of
ideation and dhyana. I was searching You externally. But in the last I
started doing sadhana and dhyana with the bond of Your love. And since
then I am intoxicated by Your divine charm…

Many have deep faith that modern science, not religion, is based on the
search for truth and that it is modern science which is the greatest
tool of humanity. Science is often regarded as the god of modern day
society and that it is science which will solve all of our global problems.

However, science does not exist in a vacuum: The guiding force behind it
is the human mind. And son long as a capitalist mentality, or racist
mentality, or naive mind is pushing science forward, there are bound to
be loopholes, if not gaping holes, in scientific knowledge.

So the way science is used today is far from this ideal. And one of the
main problems is that in numerous cases science is manipulated to
promote so-called in-born racial differences.

Of course, as Ananda Margiis, we deeply respect the value of science.
Baba guides us to advocate for more and more scientific research. So in
our Marga, science is also highly honored– under one condition: So long
as it is guided by the rational & benevolent intellect.

Baba says, “Science is also for service and blessedness. Science should
always be utilized for the proper progress of human society.” (AFPS-7)

Unfortunately, often the way science is used today does not meet up to
Baba’s ideal. Much of science is used by war mongers for crude weaponry
and and many scientific findings are for put forward which promote
racial differences.

There are innumerable studies released by scientists which give findings
based on race alone such as: Blacks do not live as long; Blacks have
higher cholesterol; blacks are less intelligent based on the shape of
their head; Hispanics have more difficulty learning; Lung Diseases
Disproportionately Affect Minorities; Whites have a higher IQ than
blacks; etc.

Especially in the western world where “scientific studies” are used to
measure each and every aspect of life, the idea creeps in– blatantly
and not so blatantly– that there are in-born differences between the
various races. That some races have a greater proclivity for certain

But such findings only promote racial divisiveness, impose an
inferiority complex on a particular race, and give the idea that ‘God’
created one race better than another.

A few decades back, such types of blind studies were the absolute norm.
They were trying to scientifically prove racial superiority, especially
of whites over blacks.

Yet even today– in this modern 21st century– there are studies which
point in this direction: As if there is an inborn qualitative difference
between one race and another.

So even in today’s modern era, studies might show that ‘blacks have a
75% greater chance of being arrested and put in jail’. And all too often
the how’s and the why’s are overlooked, or just given minor review.

Because in this era of white-bred capitalism, where the European races
have distinct control, then surely so many factors from schooling to
economic gain to social standing play a distinct role in differences of
human development. Those races that have less economic might, or less
opportunity to attend university etc will surely be more prone to
stealing and other crimes. But not because of race, but due to various
social and economic factors.

So although science has shown some signs of breaking out of this slump–
as compared with decades ago. Still it is lagging far behind.

And performing studies solely on the basis of race is bound to create
more and more division. Saying that blacks are more prone toward teenage
pregnancy and making it into a racial issue as a headline is as
ridiculous as saying that white overseas Margiis have a longer life span
that Margiis of Nairobi sector or that Indian born Margiis have a
greater rate of becoming acaryas etc.

Here the whole point is that making conclusive statements based on race
is the blindness of modern science. Social and economic and cultural
conditions must be taken into account. However still today the
differences found in socio-economic conditions is talked about in the
small print and the headlines of countless studies point towards in-born
racial differences.

Of course in our Marga we give no credence to such findings.

In all these following quotations Baba clearly advances the notions that
the existential value of all human beings is the same. And surely all in
AM hold this ideal in our heart. Yet this remains one point of serious
division in the general society. And until modern science wholly adopts
this idea, racist theories on the point of health, wealth, intelligence,
longevity etc will continue to pollute scientific findings, to some or
more degree.

Here then are the neo-humanistic ideals that must enter into the
thinking and vision of today’s scientists– then and only then can we
consider that science has entered the modern age. Till then it it will
still be hounded by racial and social blindness.

Baba says, “Let us consider the case of race. Many people identify
themselves with a particular race. If we look deeply into the subject we
come to the conclusion that the human race is one. Some people have
black skin, some people have yellow skin, and some people have white
skin. Does it make any difference to the inner human being? No, none
whatsoever.” (AFPS-3)

Baba says, “In our Ananda Marga the first step that a person takes is to
forget their race or sect and to no longer identify with their race,
caste, or sect, regardless of whether their race was superior or
inferior. Racial prejudices are very predominant…In our Ma’rga there
are no such considerations: these petty differences among human beings
are not given any importance. (TP)

Baba says, “Tantra does not recognize any racial, [or]
genealogical…differences among human beings.” (Shra’van’ii Pu’rn’ima’

By all His above teachings, Baba clearly guides us that there are no
differences between human and human– all are one.

So until scientists– and those capitalists funding scientists– stop
looking for trends in racial qualities and instead look entirely at
social and economic factors, modern science will continue to suffer from
a certain degree of blindness– thereby promoting divisiveness in
today’s global society.

By Baba’s grace our AM society will spread the sweet tune of
neo-humanistic feeling across the world and it will become embedded in
all the approaches of life, including “modern-day science”.

Baba says, “In our Ma’rga the seeds of an ideal humanity are sown from
the very beginning of life and humanity as a whole is considered as one
family belonging to the race of living beings. In such a society
injustice due to economic, sexual or racial considerations will be
unknown.” (PNS-3)

Hankering For Knowledge Invites Degeneration

Baba says, “Those who have vanity of knowledge, although they do not
expressly beseech this from the Supreme, but rather think inwardly that
the Supreme should bestow an enormous wealth of knowledge upon them —
this type of person is reborn as vidya’dhara.” (YP, p.79)

Note: Vidya’dhara is one type of microvita that is under punishment.
Such type of unfortunate beings got degenerated and became microvita. So
they are suffering and they long to once again get human life. But this
will come only after they escape from the noose of the long-term bondage
and state of punishment etc.

“Anek shun’iya’ anek bhaviya’, toma’kei bha’lobesechi…” (PS 1041)

Baba, Your tales are infinite. From the mouths of devotees I have heard
endless heart-touching stories how You have showered Your boundless love
and grace. Baba, as soon as I heard all those things about You, I began to
contemplate about Your grandeur and glory, over and over again. By that
way I realised that You are inseparably linked with my heart, mind, and my
entire existence. Baba, I have fallen in love with You; I can’t live
without You. You are my most intimate One. Baba, in order to find You I
have searched in each and every town and village, by the rivers and the
oceans, in the hills and the valleys, in the mountains and the caves. I
have searched You in the sky and earth– everywhere. Baba, by Your grace I
have discovered that You are that priceless jewel sitting in my heart.

Baba, I do not have any explanation why I have fallen in love with You.
All I can say is that it is solely Your grace. Love knows no logic or
reasoning. All I can tell is that You graciously pulled me towards You and
by that way I have fallen in love with You. It is Your grace. O’ my
Dearmost, I do not love You in order to get mukti [1]. I love You because
You have tenderly brought me close to You. Even then I am not an A-grade
sadhaka. I do sadhana and by that way receive Your bliss. I think that is
the reason why I love You. Baba, I love You to get a’nanda. This is the aim
of my life: To love You so that I may be bathed in Your bliss. This truth I

O Lord, I do not have parabhakti– highest devotion. But keeping in mind
that parabhakti is the greatest quality, I will go on doing Your work and
serving You according to whatever strength I have. I will expend every
ounce of energy to satisfy You. Baba, by Your grace, I understand that, ‘I
should love You to give You bliss– not for my own bliss’ [2]. This is the
culmination of all I have learned, by Your grace.

Baba, by Your grace I have fallen in love with You. My sole desire is to
serve You and please You…

[1] Mukti: (Literally means ‘liberation’). Just as the sadhaka in the above
song is not doing sadhana to get mukti, similarly, in the below discourse
Baba is guiding us that one should not do sadhana to get mukti.

Baba says, “While surrendering oneself at the altar of the Supreme, what is
one to do? One must not ask for anything from Parama Purus’a. [For
example,] for a bhakta, mukti has got no importance. A bhakta wants Parama
Purus’a, and nothing from Him, not even mukti. Suppose Parama Purus’a says,
‘O devotee, what do you want?’ – his reply is, ‘I want You’. One must not
say, ‘I want mukti’, because suppose one says, ‘I want mukti’, one may get
mukti, but one may not get Parama Purus´a. Which is more valuable – mukti
or Parama Purus’a? Parama Purus’a!” (SS-24, ‘Bhakti, Mukti and Parama Purusa’)

So this is a good teaching: A sadhaka should not ask for anything, not even
mukti. Even then some do sadhana for mukti, but in the above Prabhat
Samgiita as well as in the above quotation, Baba is instructing us that one
should not do sadhana to get mukti. One should do sadhana so that one may
come close and serve and please Him.

[2] A’nanda deva’r l’a’gi: (Literally means ‘to give bliss’) The last
stanza of this song describes the stance of ragatmika devotion where one
does sadhana to please Him– to give Him bliss. That is the culmination of
all devotion.

Baba says, “The ra’ga’tmika’ bhakta says: ‘I love Parama Purus’a because I
want to give Him a’nandam. I don’t care whether or not I get a’nandam. My
only desire is to give Him joy through my love. I shall perform, even at
the cost of profuse sweat and difficulty, only those noble deeds which will
give Him joy. I am ready to undergo any amount of pain and suffering to
give Him joy.” (NKS: Disc 25)

In the present era many innocent persons suffer from a misunderstanding about
science and its application. Usually people think that modern day
science has achieved the highest staure, and that it crowning glory of life,
as it has led us out of the dark ages of religious dogma etc.

They conclude taht we should follow the present day course of scientific
achievement not adjust the path of science.

But, as Baba guides us, for science to really become society’s great asset
some pre-requisites are necessary. In particular the control of science
must be in the hands of sadvipras. Otherwise it creates a very negative
effect that is hazardous to humanity.

One further point is that civilization and the science should work hand in
hand. That means science should be controlled by civilized souls. Because
when the opposite happens, then all kinds of negativity sprouts. Just like
in this present era where science is controlled by capitalists– selfish
people who twist science to their own greedy needs.

So in this present era of material science, achievements chiefly come in
two main ways:

1. New and newer weapons for destroying & killing others;
2. Luxurious items for the rich & lazy.

But on the other side so many fields of scientific inquiry have been left
neglected. Scientists have not gotten the opportunity or means to research
and solve problems like providing the minimum requirements to each and
every individual on this earth. What to say about the entire globe, even in
the materially rich USA not all the people have their minimum requirements
met. And throughout other parts of the globe starvation is quite common and
even rampant in some areas. Needless to say this is not glorifying image of
science and its achievement.

Why all this?– Because science is controlled by negative people and it has
gotten misused:
(a) science is not under the direct control of sadvipras;
(b) civilization is not given proper emphasis.

These following Baba’s quotes all lead in that direction.

Baba says, “In the present age, civilization is on the wane due to science
enjoying the pride of place. But developed as science is today, if
civilization is pushed up again to the top, people can reach a greater
height than ever before.” (PNS-6, p.37)

Baba says, “What is science? That which teaches the proper use of material
things is science. Where the development of civilization is utterly
negligible and science gradually attains the apogee of development, science
only paves the way for destruction instead of doing any good to humanity.
And so, study and practice of science, though unavoidable, should not be
given a higher place than civilization.” (PNS-6, p.36)

Baba says, “For human progress the cultivation of science must always be
welcomed, but it is desirable that this cultivation of science should be
carried out under the supervision of sadvipras.” (PNS-6, p.15)

And here further Baba reviews issues of science in the present era.
Baba says, “Today the materialist scientists of the world have become the
objects of fear for the human race, lest they invent and produce various
types of lethal bombs.” (PNS-14, p.15)

Baba says, “So we see that science is indispensable for human progress, and
without it half the population of the world would die of starvation.”
(PNS-6, p.13)

Baba says, “Nowadays science means creating new weapons – strengthening the
hands of war-mongers; but the spirit of science should not be like this,
and at the start, in the primordial phase of human life, it was not so.
Yes, there is necessity of weapons – weapons not for strengthening the
hands of warmongers, but for providing security for good ideas, good
thoughts and good persons.” (PNS-9, p. 42)

As Ananda Margiis we understand that material science is in a very
primitive stage. Here following is some review.

1. Material science wrongly believes that building blocks of life are
carbonic structures. But our Microvita philosophy says that the building
block is microvita. It is microvita which carries the life.

2. Each and every margii practices fasting without water and has
experienced how beneficial it is. But present day medical science
basically discards this idea; rather traditional medical science says that
fasting without water fasting is very dangerous, detrimental to health.

3. Each and every Margii knows the value of lymph and that Baba has warned
that no one should misuse this by harboring negative thoughts and
converting one’s vital energy into semen, unnecessarily for
self-gratification or the domination of low instincts. One should know the
value of naesthika brahmacarya as well as be wary of the “bad habit of
masturbation” (YT). But the beliefs and ways of present day science is just
opposite. They encourage others to indulge in this negative thing. Even
this is preached to the youth. In dogmatic way present day scientists
preach that the loss of semen is beneficial health. But we know that this
is 100% wrong.

So when material science is off the mark on these points then how far can
we adjust with their viewpoints– thus sacrificing the ideals of AM. And
here following are more points where material science is far below the high
standard of AM.

4. Material science does not have any concept of sentient food and whereas
we know how useful and important it is to take sentient food.

5. Present day science follows the dogma that human beings are social
animals and they treat humans as being part of the animal kingdom. All
kinds of medical tests are done on animals so that various medicines or
“scientific developments” can be approved for humans consumption. But Baba
discards this idea that humans are animals. In so many discourses Baba says
“human life is an ideological flow” (APH). There is no question that humans
are “rational animals”.

6. Material scientists believe that matter is bottled up energy. And here
energy means crude energy. But Baba discards this idea. Matter is not
bottled up energy.

7. Material scientists claim that everything comes from matter and we say
that everything comes from Parama Purusa. They say everything is from
matter and we say that everything is Cosmic emanation.

8. Material science does not believe in prapatii vada or surrender theory.
But in Ananda Marga, surrender theory is the highest ideal.

9. Present day material science does not believe in the working system of
homeopathy. But Baba approves of homeopathy as being the best pathy.

10. Material science claims that certain individuals like Galileo first
invented certain theories like that of gravitation. But Baba enlightens us
as to the real story about this:

Baba says, “Bhaskaracarya first discovered that the earth was round, and not
Copernicus. That the earth is moving was first discovered by Bhaskaracarya
and not by Galileo. The law of gravitation was first discovered by
Bhaskaracarya and not by Newton.” (Disc MHB, p. 24)

11. Material science such as western linguistics thinks that Latin and
Greek are the starting point of modern languages, whereas Baba has clearly
demonstrated that the Sanskrit language is the underlying link of all
languages around the globe.

12. Material science does not recognize anything beyond sense-perception
but the entire philosophy of AM philosophy is standing on intuition.

13. Material science believes that this world is for the enjoyment of human
beings. And for their enjoyment, then ecology and all related things can be
consumed. But our AM philosophy holds a different feeling. As human beings
have the right to life, similarly all have right to live– One family. But
material science does not consider this.

14. In AM we believe in Cosmic patrimony– that the material property
belongs to one and all. But material science does not recognise this.

15. Many aspects of the basic fundamentals of 16 Points are overlooked and
by material science as it does not recognise them.

16. Like this countless points are there how the dharmic teaching of AM are
far higher and more advanced that the present day ways of material science.

What Baba has given everything is aptavakya, entire creation is within the
mind of Parama Purusa. To know anything He need not to do any external
approach. Because everything is within Him, so what He has said that is
100% perfect and that is not going to change according to changes of time
space and person. That is why all Baba’s teachings are apta vakya and

Baba says, “A’pta vakya or absolute knowledge is true and beneficial for
all people is all ages and in all countries…The books in Ananda Marga
philosophy are all absolute knowledge.” (PNS-18, chap 3)

In contrast in the case of material science, what one scientist says today
is truth until another scientist comes along & proves that as wrong.
To understand the divine teaching of Baba, the preset day material science
has to travel a long pathway. So we are not going to compromise or adjust
our AM philosophy at all to fit the limited ways of material science.
Rather when material science advances then they will understand that
greatness of Ananda Marga.

Note 1: Of course in AM we strongly advocate and support the use of
science. No one should get confused and think AM is against science. Just
the overall idea of this letter is that the more static materials science
is far behind the teachings of AM.

Here following Baba guides us how science should be used.

Baba says, “Science is for service and beatitude. Science should always be
utilised for the proper progress of human society.” (PNS-9, p. 42)

Note 2: The various branches of material science operate within their own
spheres. So each does not understand other branches of sciences. One
branch of the science does not understand another branch of material
science. But AM is based on spiritual science. So it cannot be measured
with the scale of material science. Material science should develop more
and more and be utilised for human welfare. Then it will help in all-round
development of human personality. But it has its own limitation.

Subtler aspects of spiritual science will never be understood and realised
by material science because of its own limitation. To understand AM,
material science has to cross its material boundary. But it cannot do that
otherwise it will not be seen as a material science. Then it will be called
as a spiritual science. So the conclusion is that due to its inherent
limitations material science will never be able to fully understand AM

Divine Guideline in Dhyana Process

Baba says, “In the fourth phase the relationship is just like a piece of
paper; the unit consciousness of the spiritual aspirant is one side of the
paper and the Cosmic Consciousness of Parama Purus’a is the other side of
the paper; they are inseparable, one cannot be removed from the other. By
His effulgence the unit existence, the existential faculty of the aspirant
gets lighted, gets illumined. With His illumination the aspirant is to move
forward and enjoy the Supreme Beatitude and the Supreme Composure.” (SS-18,

Note: Here above Baba is indirectly guiding about the last part of the
practice of dhyana– which every sincere sadhaka practices regularly.
