Baba

PS Intro: This following song is not a very common type of Prabhat Samgiita.
In this song, the scene unfolds how Baba is sitting listlessly in the flower
garden all by Himself, and the devotee is trying in many ways to attract His
attention. So Parama Purusa is just playing His liila because although He
knows everything, here He is pretending as if He is unaware that the devotee
is close by. This type of liila is displayed in this following song.

“Toma’re dekhechi jabe ca’npa’r vane
takhano pa’pa’r’i d’ha’ka’ madhu chilo…” (PS 531)

Purport:

Baba the day when I saw You in the campa flower garden, that time also the
flower’s honey vessels were covered by its petals. Underneath the flower petals,
there was an accumulation of honey nectar. I looked toward You with my eyes
full of great longing, expectation, and anticipation; but that was all in
vain because You did not respond to me that time. Baba, one thing is beyond
my understanding, why were You just sitting there listlessly in that flower
garden–and You did not seem to notice me at all.

Baba, in various ways I tried to attract Your attention. I intentionally
placed my foot on some dry, crunchy leaves hoping that at least by that sound
You would hear me and wonder ‘who has come, who is here’. Yet, alas, You did
not pay any heed. But even though You were not looking towards me, still You
were pulling my heart very strongly. Thus in spite of Your playful indifference,
in my heart the lamp of hope was still glittering. I was keeping the feeling
alive in my heart, that Your liila will change and You will graciously look
towards me.

So again I tried to attract Your attention. This time my heart was filled
with fear and shyness; I could not gather the courage to go directly in front
You. So I just continued moving from a distance with gentle steps looking
towards with longing in my heart. Means slowly, slowly– time to time– I
was staring at You with anxious and hopeful eyes, hoping that at least You
will grace me by looking towards me and call me closer to You. Alas, all my
hopes and dreams were in vain. That day I understood how Your liila generates
blissful pain in my heart.

Baba, even then that day I continued on with the hope that this liila will
end soon, and You will look towards me. That time the whole atmosphere was
charged with the sweet aroma of all those flowers in the garden.

Baba, Your liila is unfathomable. Although You did not look towards me that
time, but in my heart I felt that You are more close than ever. Baba, I felt
that You graciously pulled my entire existence towards You with the invisible
flow of devotion and tied me in the bond of Your love…

== DOING TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT OURSELVES ==

Namaskar,
Not long back I attended a retreat and at the opening ceremony and also in
our ERAWS Departmental meetings Dadas were telling that ‘We [margiis] should
engage in some work or activity so that we will feel good about ourselves’. They were
telling that this should be our motivating factor. Plus they were saying, ‘If
you do not do something, then how will our seniors be pleased’. So these are
some of the things we margiis are hearing at retreats nowadays. So this is
one of the common problems. Unfortunately those making these types of statements
are oblivious about Baba’s teaching.

Baba says, “It is incorrect to say that merely doing good deeds is enough:
People must hold an object of ideation in their minds. And that supreme
object of ideation is Parama Purus’a. Only then if some good action is
performed will it be successful. Now if one wants to do some good deed excluding
Parama’tma’ that will not be a good deed. This will be sheer selfishness on
your part, and nothing good can come from it.” (26 Feb ’71, Jammu)

HOW THE WORLD IS FUNCTIONING THESE DAYS

Due to the mass propagation of the self-centered philosophy of materialism,
there is a huge increase in selfishness. The common people are going far
astray from Baba’s above golden guideline.

Nowadays general citizens– especially those who regard themselves as so-called
advanced people– rarely do good deeds. And in the those measly few circumstances
when they do seemingly perform “good actions”, it is really done out of
self-satisfaction. That is for the sake of their own entertainment. These days
this has become the fad.

And then afterwards they just brag about their own “greatness”. They announce
to others about how they did top-level social service. And by saying that they
can feel good (puffed up) and get prestige. This is the on-going trend.

Baba says, “Suppose a certain man donates one thousand rupees to a particular
institution. The next day he looks anxiously for his name in the newspaper.
If his name does not appear in the paper, then with an air of conceit he brags
amongst his kith and kin. “I have donated a thousand rupees, but I do not desire
recognition and therefore I have not published my name in the paper.” The desire
for fame exists in a concealed form in that man’s mind. Clearly, he did not make
the donation with the spirit of service.” (SS-1)

THE OUTCOME OF SELFISH ACTIVITIES

But one should understand such so-called good works neither help the individual
nor the collective. Rather it causes or brings about their ultimate degeneration
in all the realms:

1) Those who are “doing the service” look down upon those whom they are serving;
and they end up exploiting them etc.

2) Those who are “doing the service” really want  something return. Such as
name or fame etc. And when if/when they do not get that then they retaliate or r
eact in various ways;

3) Plus they go not recognise the dignity of those human beings whom they are serving.
They do not respect those downtrodden masses. By their arrogant tendency, they
end up imposing an inferiority complex upon those whom they are “serving”.

4) They bind themselves in the ocean of negative samskara and bondage by getting
sucked into the never-ending cycle of action and reaction.

5) For their own self-entertainment they lose their vivek. And when they do entertain
themselves often they harm others. For example on the weekend people do various
outlandish things like hunting, fishing, and killing. By this way we can see that
there are all kinds of negative things they do to entertain themselves. All so
that they can satisfy their selfish desires and feel good. Yet all this is a
waste of time– not to mention destructive.

6) Ultimately such persons degenerate and get totally frustrated.

THE GREATEST THING– IN THE REAL SENSE

To do work with the sole purpose and motive of pleasing Parama Purusa is the
greatest thing; that is the only good work. And by His grace true devotees do
like this. There is no other way.

Baba says, “When you perform acts with the ideation that the person served is
Náráyańa, there is no possibility of arrogance or the desire for fame growing
in your mind. Then you will realize that through the grace of a’ra’yan’a you have
been given the opportunity of serving Na’ra’yan’a. Our hands and feet are not ours,
they are His, and by serving Himself with those hands and feet, He sports with
Himself. Such an action is an action without attachment. Only in this way can one
attain salvation from the bondage of Karma. “(SS-1)

Baba says, “Knowing oneself is the real knowledge; serving all with the ideation
of Na’ra’yan’a, the real action, and the vow to please Parama Purus’a the real
devotion.” (A’nanda Va’nii #25)

Namaskar,
Hariish

Note: LIFE IN AMPS

In our organisation AMPS, the following types of ailments are going on.
Some Wts are openly bragging and telling each other:

(a) “Hey, do something to feel good”; or,
(b) “Hey, do something to please your higher authority”; or
“Hey, do something to please your grouip leader” etc; or,
(c) “Hey, do something to save your post and get a promotion.”

This is what they say. And this is not a hidden idea either. Rather it
happens on a daily basis. In this way they brag and loudly expose their
feeling to one and all. Plus some margiis etc who give a few pennies
for relief projects talk all day long about their own greatness and great
generosity. These are the common ailments.

So by this one can easily understand that such persons are surrounded by
Cimmerian darkness. The fate of such Wts or margiis ends up in sheer frustration.

In contrast, good margiis follow Baba’s teaching: Do with the ideation of
serving Parama Purusa.

***************************************
Margiis’ Status

Baba says, “Most people spend their lives on this planet eating and
drinking. Sometimes they contract diseases, their stomachs become distended,
and they die. But there are certain exceptional people who say, ‘No, we have
not come to eat, drink and make merry.’ Those who lead licentious lives foolishly
get involved in brawls and fights, but the exceptional people say, ‘No, we
don’t want to live such a life, we have to lead an ideological life on the path of
“A’tmamoks’a’rtham’ jagaddhita’ya ca.”

“Those people who are society’s exceptions are extraordinary people. They
alone will build human history. Others cannot and will not do it.”

“These exceptional people are sometimes seen as lunatics by the naive public,
but the fact is that these exceptional people do something new and constructive
for society.”

“You should also know that you are exceptions. You too will do something great,
will build up something historical.” (9th January ’79)

Note: The life of each and every good margii is looked upon as something
peculiar in the eyes of the common people. The reason is A-grade margiis
are not involved in the religious dogma or materialistic ways of common
people; plus all margiis are practicing yoga, kiirtan, sadhana, eating only
sentient food, and following progressive ideas. So margiis’ thinking and living
and socializing are quite different from the common public. That is why the
common public thinks margiis are peculiar people. But sincere margiis are
not worried about this; rather they know that this is one merit. Such
margiis are great exceptions and they are also the vanguards of the entire
society. All sincere margiis are making the path which the common public will
tread in the very near future.

Baba

“Diner a’lote a’so ni, ele tumi a’ndha’re…” P.S. 2073

Purport:

Baba You are so merciful, You are so divine. Earlier when my life was
full of happiness then that time You did not come; but now in this period
of darkness You have come. It is Your grace.

During my good days I wanted You to come and rejoice the occasion. But
that did not happen– in the effulgence of the day You did not come. But
now in the darkness of night You have come. Baba, how You play Your
liila.

Baba in the smile of the moon, You do not present Yourself. But when I
was suffering in pain, then with the soothing balm You came and relieved me
of my suffering. Baba, You have come in this cimmerian darkness when I am
crying.

Baba, everyone knows that You are most-loving; and everyone
knows that You think about one and all. Even then they involve in logically analysing
and reasoning about Your ways in order to strengthen their love for You–
to love You in a deeper way.

O’ Baba, You are beginningless and Your abode is in infinity. In all
the twelve months You remain constantly along with me– in pain and
pleasure. Baba, You are the divine shelter of everyone; You are the heart
of everyone, the Soul of souls. And by Your grace You pull everyone close
to You. You never discard or ignore anyone– irrespective of how high or
how low they are.

Baba You have only come in this time of crying and suffering. In the
good days when I was calling You then You did not come. Baba, Your glory is
unfathomable; Your liila is beyond imagination; Baba, You are so gracious…

== ONGOING FANTASY: ‘I AM DHARMIC’ ==

Namaskar,
We live in such a diverse and colourful universe– in their own mind most
everyone thinks that they are following dharma, or the way of truth etc.
All think that their plan is the way things should be, that their plan is
the most righteous one.

Mr. Bush and his capitalist agents think that their approach of “getting
oil no matter what” is virtuous, while Islamic militants believe their
“so-called holy doctrine of Allah” is virtuous.

So to get power, to stand on top of the mountain, due to their
self-interest, both parties think they are right. This is their real
belief.

And this type of drama is unfolding within every religion and within every
nation– all over the globe. Goaded by their self-interest, all think that
their group or party has “the way”.

IN AM ALSO THIS IS GOING ON

Similar is the case in AM. Due to their self-interest, one factional party
thinks that their way is the dharmic approach and another group believes
that they hold the key to “truth and enlightenment”.

So all pronounce theirs as the pathway of AM ideology.

One group thinks writing “Translated from the original Bengali” at the
beginning of every book is the dharmic approach, and another group believes
that “PP’s word” is the key to truth & welfare in AMPS. And still others
take it upon themselves to fabricate their own self-styled Ananda Vaniis.
But that is not all…

Some think that the killing of Abhipremananda is something virtuous.
Whereas others think that in the dark of the night, they can attack anyone
who is going against their group. And even the old chief of VSS
Madhavananda thought that his killing of some avadhutas was virtuous.
All these types of things have been going on– in the name of dharma.

So each & every side has their own strategy in mind, knowingly or
unknowingly. And all are internally convinced their way is that of AM
ideology.

This is how things are unfolding these days in our Marga.

Now then is the time to see who is just living in their own silly dreamland
and merely repeating ‘I follow dharma’, and who is really involved in AM
ideology and truly following dharma.

BABA’S METHOD OF FOLLOWING DHARMA

By Baba’s grace, He has given us the perfect method to see who is who and
what is what.

Baba says, “To my ideology I am as simple and straight as a rod.” (SS-18)

So Baba’s teaching is quite neat and clean: One must adhere to AM teachings
completely and not twist them in any direction. That is Baba’s guideline.
And the practical application of this is that His teachings are to be kept
“as is”– and those teachings are to be applied in one’s practical life.

That is the determining factor of who is following AM ideology.

HOW SOME “FOLLOW DHARMA” IN AM

Unfortunately some have their own way of “following dharma…”.

1. For example, for years and years some factional heads were adamantly
convinced that all Baba’s books should be prefaced with “Translated from
the original Bengali”– even if the discourse was originally given in
English in Fiesch, Switzerland. So in the name of dharma those groupists
printed “Translated from the original Bengali” on the cover page of all the
AM books. This was their so-called dharma.

2. Then others have grabbed partial quotes from various sources and
proclaimed them to be Ananda Vaniis– when in fact Baba never included such
things in His original Ananda Vanii collection. Hence what those groupists
are making is nothing but Fake Ananda Vaniis– all done in the name of
dharma.

3. Still others place PP’s name on the bottom of various orders and
proclaim that so and so is hereby expelled forever or some other outlandish
claim when in fact Baba has firmly declared that expulsion is not allowed
in AM. Even then various groupist proceed ahead in the bullish plan of
expulsion. This then is yet another episode of what that some factional
heads are doing in the name of dharma.

4. So in all sorts of ways, shapes and forms, various leaders in various
camps do things in the name of dharma. Those who are cunning knowingly
understand that they are going against dharma yet proclaim it as being
dharmic. And in the other corner some simple and naive people truly believe
in their heart that what they are doing is dharmic. Yet, in reality–
though one is worse than the other– both are far, far from AM ideology.

WHY DO THEY DO LIKE THIS

The question then becomes why do they do like this– why do certain
factional leaders go against AM ideology yet proclaim with full zeal that
they are acting in accordance with AM ideology. How is that they do not
have courage to admit and repent that what they are doing is opposite to
Baba’s teaching– opposite to dharma.

As is commonly seen, the answer is that they are blinded or goaded by their
own selfish desire. Stuck in that low mindset they are unable to admit
their fault– and just get drowned in their own silly agenda.
Either they think ‘I must get the power’ or they think ‘I must remain
forever on this MU’ or they think ‘I must become the most respected one’
etc. And in that blindness of self-interest, in that drunken egoistic
state, they do so many nasty things in the name of AM ideology to satiate
their hunger. But in that way they stray far from the path & go 100%
against dharma.

In that blindness, they distort AM scripture, take away margii rights, tear
down the BP system– countless heinous acts they do, all in the name of
“dharma”.

Such is what happens when this or that groupist is wearing the eye-glasses
of selfish-interest. They twist AM ideology to their own end.

When in fact a true dharmika will do each and everything for AM ideology–
for dharma, without harbouring any other desire in mind.

Unfortunately time and time again, groupists stray from this ideal– all
because of their selfish approach.

SAME THING IN INDIAN FIGHT FOR INDEPENDENCE

It is just like during the Indian independence movement. At that time
various so-called leaders were making countless promises about how they
will restore glory to India. This was their regular chant of dharma. But
their so-called holy promise was all dependent on one factor– that of
satisfying their selfish desire of getting the chair etc. And then once
they got it, the rest is history. We all know what happened.

Rather than solving India’s ills and bringing forth the glory of India &
restoring dharma, instead they cracked the nation into multiple pieces. All
because their selfish lust for power was greater than their desire to bring
welfare to the country, greater than their desire to follow dharma.

MIRROR IMAGE GOING ON IN AM

Tragically, we are now witnessing this same type of event in AMPS. Blinded
by their self-interest they wrote “Translated from the original Bengali” on
the cover of every AM book in an attempt to show that their land or
language is the top etc. Or due to their self-interest they fabricated so
many Fake Ananda Vaniis that goaded margiis to ‘sit still and remain
passive’ or ‘follow “dharma” by siding with my group’ etc.

And by all this selfish power plays, the real teachings of AM ideology just
fall by the wayside– this is their so-called dharmic approach.

IDEOLOGISTS KEEP TEACHING AS IS

Hence even though there are so many opposing camps that all claim to be
following dharma, it is quite easy to understand how these various groups
are just living in their own dreamland. Because, each, in their own way,
twists AM teachings to suit their own ends.

Whereas those who are ideologists– those who are dharmikas– will always
keep Baba’s teachings “as is” and mold themselves according to His divine
standard.

By this measuring rod, we can be sure who is a veritable dharmika and
abiding by the ideals of AM versus who is living in their own hypocritical
dreamland and merely mouthing ‘I follow dharma’.

FINAL WARNING

In the end let us remember that Baba has given one authoritative warning to
those selfish people who are bragging that ‘everything I am doing is
dharmic’. Such persons should remember that nature will not spare them:
They will have to undergo the consequences of their misdeeds– either in
this life or the next.

Hence we should utilise whatever strength Baba has given us to serve others
and never fall prey to any type of personal or group interest– just like
those who think that ‘let AM Revolution discourse get distorted since the
change is in favour my wt group etc’. This type of defective outlook is
very negative.

And this is only the tip of the iceberg. There are so many things that
happen in one’s personal and collective life where some wrong is committed.
And if one is simple and open-minded then they may understand and admit
their wrongdoing whereas if one is just drowned in their own ego they will
never understand– and they will just incur more and more sin and
ultimately undergo that hellish reaction.

OUR DUTY

This is the time to look in 360 degrees and review the situation. It is our
duty to keep Baba’s teaching “as is”. If His divine teachings remain in
their original condition, then today or tomorrow AM ideology will be
established– based on His very teachings. But if His divine words are
tainted then the situation will be so disastrous.

That is why it is the personal and collective responsibility of each and
every Ananda Margii to keep Baba’s things “as is”. That is the greatest
work of this present day.

BABA’S BLESSING

By Baba’s divine grace, we will all bring back the holy pillars of AM
ideology into our AMPS and create one truly dharmic society.

Baba says, “You follow me, that is, you follow my word, follow Bha’gavata
Dharma, because you are a human being.” (SS-21)

Namaskar,
Gurucharan

Importance of Padma’sana

Baba says, “Padma’sana [lotus posture] is just like a lotus in full bloom.
Just as the roots and stem of the lotus remain under the water and only the
leaves and flowers float about it– and although it is born in the mind it
sustains its love for the stars– in the same way people sitting in this
lotus posture and remaining in the world, can keep their minds above their
mundane environment. That is why on the path of sa’dhana’ this posture has
tremendous importance.” (NSS, ’85, p.241)

Subject: Defining Greatness…

Baba

“Loke bale tumi dekha’ da’o na’, tave ele kii kare…” (PS 1893)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa, people are telling that You are not visible. When
people say like that then how is it that You have come here in front of me
and I am seeing You.

O’ Parama Purusa, people are telling that You do not care about logic
and reasoning. That there is no explaining how You manage Your affairs and
that Your liila is beyond logic. Then how is it that You have graced one
and all & You are showering everyone with Your divine nectar. How has this
started happening.

Baba, whenever I see You then I always request You to make me Yours. And
when I say like this, then I see with my own eyes and I hear with my own
ears how You come close and shower me incessantly with Your infinite grace.

Baba, I am so meagre; You are so vast. I am bound up by my own
limitations. Even then You love me. Baba, by Your sweet touch all the
negativity and impurities get removed; and everything becomes pure. By Your
grace, the fragrant flowers blossom in each and every nook and corner of my
mind. Baba, people are telling that You are invisible and that You cannot be
seen; but by Your grace You have come to me. O’ my dearmost Baba, this is
all due to Your cosmic grace and infinite compassion…

== DEFINING GREATNESS IN HUMAN LIFE ==

Namaskar,
In each and every sphere of life Baba has set the gold-bar standard. In all
the realms He has beautifully defined what is the top-rung of achievement,
as well as how one gets there. Included in this is Baba’s special
explanation about greatness: What makes someone great.

No doubt in the mundane society– whether it be in the field of politics,
business, sports, or education etc– people have their own small-minded
views about who & what is great. But in Baba’s own revolutionary approach,
He has given His unique and dharmic teaching on greatness. And, needless to
say, His grand definition of ‘greatness’ stands on a plane all its own–
far, far above.

THE SUTRA & SPIRIT BEHIND IT ALL

Here following is Baba’s special guideline about vastness & greatness, the
link between the two, as well as what it means to be great.

Baba says, “This Supreme One is called brhat. The word brhat literally
means ‘One who is very vast, who is beyond the scope of all limitations,
who is immeasurable and unfathomable’…Brahma literally means the Entity
who is Himself very vast, and whose ideation makes others vast like Him.”

Brhattva’d Brahma Brm’hanatva’d Brahma

“Brm’hanatva’d means making others vast. He himself is very great, and
hence He is called Brahma; but this is not enough. Besides that He has the
capacity to make others equally great like Him.” (SS-11)

As Baba explains in His above teaching, one of the qualities of Parama
Purusa is that He Himself is vast (brhat). And not only that but He has the
capacity to make others vast. So, according to Baba’s revolutionary view,
being vast does not mean just being some big or large entity; in addition,
one must possess that special ability to make others equally vast. That is
the unique requisite which Baba outlines in the above shloka.

And– per Baba’s guideline– same is the case with greatness…

As He directs us, vastness or greatness does not come all by itself; nor
does it exist in a vacuum. To become ‘great’, one must have that special
talent of being able to make others great. This is the exceptional quality
of those who are really great. Thus only those who have this unique ability
to raise the standard of others to the level of greatness can truly be
called great. This is Baba’s teaching.

HUMANS CAN ALSO DO

So while Brahma is unquestionably the Greatest of the great, in their own
way humans can also achieve a certain level of greatness. Because those who
follow a God-centered philosophy are drenched in spiritual thought and
service-mindedness. And when others come in their contact then those common
people naturally feel inspired and get uplifted. Because by seeing the ways
and conduct of a true sadhaka, then others will also grow. And not only
that, those selfless sadhakas are ever-ready to help others advance. In
that way God-centered aspirants can bring lay people up to their high
level. And, according to Baba, those who do like this are indeed great.

NOT LIKE A BANYAN TREE

Thus becoming vast or great does not mean becoming big like one huge banyan
tree. Because although a banyan tree is enormous, it gets that way by
sucking up all the air, sunlight, water, and nutrients for itself. That
banyan tree does not allow even single a blade of grass to grow underneath
it. So this type of crude expression of bigness is not something
admirable– not something great.

HOW IT GOES IN THE GENERAL SOCIETY

Unfortunately in today’s materialistic society, there are so-called great
people all around. They are adorned on the cover of various magazines,
propped up on stages, applauded at sporting events, and praised by the size
of their wallet. Means in this present era there are so many who are called
as great– for one reason or another; yet none reach up to Baba’s standard
of the term, not even close.

As we see all around, whether in the field of business, entertainment, or
law etc, in cent-per-cent of the cases those materially-minded people only
become “great” by sucking the blood of others. Only by stepping on the
heads of others and by clawing and scratching for each and every inch did
they get “to the top”. And such ‘greats’ retain this regal status of theirs
by throwing dirt in the eyes of others. And they certainly do not help to
elevate the standard of others. Rather the opposite.

So these so-called greats in the crude society have nothing to do with
helping others to grow or expand. Rather they achieved their measly status
by hoarding money, grabbing a high post, & garnering a lot of prestige,
etc. So their greatness is only standing on fleeting worldly credentials.
And they enhance their “greatness” by attempting to collect more of those
worldly prizes than anyone else. So their approach is totally selfish–
where the key point is making oneself look better than others.

CONTRARY TO BABA’S DHARMIC DEFINITION

That is why what is usually called ‘great’ in this materialistic, vaeshyan
era is completely opposite to Baba’s spiritual, neo-humanistic approach. In
capitalism ‘greatness’ is achieved by pushing oneself above others, and in
our dharmic spiritual approach greatness means raising others up to a
standard of excellence.

Hence in the true sense, those selfish persons who pose as being “great”
are not really great– not at all. Because their ‘greatness’ comes from
sucking the blood of others. They are unable to make others great, just
they prop themselves up by stepping on the heads of others and reaping the
fruits of their existence. So simple and innocent citizens get exploited
and suppressed when they come in contact with such so-called great persons.
That is why we can never call any selfish, materialistic person as ‘great’.
Because they are unable to lift others up to a higher standard– rather
they push those people down into the depths of degradation.

SAME THING HAPPENING IN AMPS NOWADAYS

Unfortunately nowadays a similar trend exists in our AMPS. Because if we
look around then we can see that those so-called great Dadas suppress
lower-posted workers and / or margiis. Means top-dog Dadas reach the height
of their glory by pushing down on the shoulders of general members. They
force margiis to remain in a subservient position and do not allow margiis
to grow. This is evidenced by the curtailment and eradication of bhukti
pradhan rights, the strangulation of margii rights, the manipulation of the
ACB etc. In all spheres those great Dadas – no need to mention names –
just impose restrictions on the margiis to satisfy their
selfish greed for power and post. And within their own ranks they just
create ‘yes-men’ all around them. Any Dada with a brain got pushed aside
and anyone who they keep as their close must become a ‘yes-man’– a
no-brainer. This is the unfortunate formula these days.

So to attain their greatness, such top Dadas suck the blood of junior wts
and general margiis and exploit them up to the bone. That is the be-all and
end-all of their greatness. Meanwhile in this dark era, those who are
really great are temporarily hidden somewhere– remaining unknown.

So in the materialistic era of the general society and in this groupist era
in our AMPS, those who are deemed as “great” function in a way that is
totally opposite to Baba’s divine equation of greatness. Thus all around
so-called great people are nothing but exploiter-types, with not an ounce
of benevolent motive in their blood.

Whereas Baba’ divine recipe for greatness means working for the welfare of
others and making them great. That is how to see who is really great.

BABA’S BLESSING

By Baba’s divine grace, soon the humanity will be led by truly great
personalities. By Baba’s grace that day is fast approaching.

Baba says, “We are proceeding from darkness towards effulgence, from
imperfection along the golden steps to perfection. No obstacle on the way
will be able to stop our advancement. Pushing aside and smashing all
obstacles and impediments we will move along our destined path…The chant
of our forward movement will be our vocal expression, the very pulsation of
our life.” (A’nanda Va’nii, #72)

Namaskar,
Jagatmitra

Note 1: WHO IS CONTROLLING WHOM

Nowadays those with post are looked upon as great persons. Presidents and
Prime Ministers get huge respect and royal treatment wherever they go. Side
by side in this extreme vaeshyan era, those with any sense understand well
that from behind, these presidents are controlled by top-moneyed persons.

Some may think that Presidents are merely moderately influenced by those
corporation heads; but in reality those deep pocketed vaeshyas are
selecting and deciding who will be president. This is the well known fact
nowadays. But for the shudra-dominated public they are not aware about all
this so they just give full respect to the President and they think the
President is controlling everything. When the reality is that politics is
controlled by money. This is how the general society is moving.
But amongst the common people, post is everything and the capitalists
recognise this that is why they are purchasing & controlling those
postholders. If postholders were meaningless positions then those with
money would not bother about that.

In AMPS, post is given a similar amount of respect. So groupist Dadas work
behind the scenes and totally manipulate and control those sitting in the
chairs of the PP post and GS post. This is the on-going reality
since ’90.

Note 2: MORE ABOUT BABA’S TEACHING OF GREATNESS

Becoming vast or great is not measured by accumulating huge money or high
prestige or some other material thing etc, the vastness which Baba is
referring to in His famous shloka is about helping others to improve and
become great. And on that basis alone is what makes someone really great.

Note 3: DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VAESHYAN ERA & GOD-CENTERED APPROACH

In crude vaeshyan era people think that those with money are great and in
other eras they have their own mundane parameters– such as physical might
or intellectual cunning etc. But in our God-centered approach the ones who
are great are those who make others great.

About the Wealthy

Baba says, “It must always be remembered that the value of money lies in
its proper use. If more money is accumulated than what is necessary, it
becomes valueless for want of use. To the extent that you keep idle and
valueless money with you, to that extent you become responsible for the
injustices done to the hungry and the naked. Your valueless hoard will have
to be made valuable by providing opportunities for use by others. Those who
do not know the right use of money on the basis of the exchange of mundane
resources are in fact the enemies of society.” (HS-1, p.41)

Baba

“D’eke ja’i sa’r’a’ na’ pa’i, e ki kat’hin hrdaya…” (P.S. 3184)

Purport:

Baba, I go on calling You, but I never get any response. Your heart is
tough. You do not care about my longing; that is why You never respond.
Sometimes You come close and sometimes You go on smiling, keeping Yourself
distant. What type of drama or divine play is this.
With the melody and rhythm of the dance, You go on floating like a tidal
wave in the ocean. In all the ups and downs of Your various vibrations I
always feel Your sweetness.
Baba, in all the ages You are; You remain all the time; You never get
lost. You are also present in those memories which have already faded away.
There also You are. You are ever-present in the nucleus of everything,
manifested or not manifested. Everything is saturated with Your love, Your
grace. Baba, You love me and You want to listen to my call again and again,
that is why You do not respond. This is one way of Your loving expression.
Baba, I surrender everything unto You…

Note: At the bottom of this letter are links to more important letters on this topic.

Namaskar,
A critical event and recurring issue demands our full attention,
especially in the wake of recent events.

We all understand that everything Baba has given is sacred, including
our WT system and His divine collection of Prabhat Samgiita.

Yet now, in recurring birthday bashes, both of these gifts are being
misused, nay abused.

Please read the following; see what is going on; and find out which
acaryas are involved.

Collectively, by raising awareness, together we can put a stop to such
shenanigans that undermine the sanctity of Baba’s ideological teachings
and devotional treasures.

BABA’S MANDATE:

NO BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION FOR WT

Since a number of Wts have jumped on the birthday party bandwagon, we
need to examine the issue from various aspects.

First off, let’s just make it clear that no Wt or avadhuta should be
involved in celebrating their own birthday. That is Baba’s strict rule.

Many will recall that in the early 1970’s when Nirmohanananda celebrated
his own birthday in Daltonganj, then Baba reprimanded Dada severely. Out
of His great love, Baba wanted to set the record straight regarding
proper WT conduct. So He sent a strong message by rebuking
Nirmohanananda, in front of everyone.

Seeing this all workers immediately understood that they have not come
on this earth to party and celebrate their own crude birthday. That is
not what Baba wants.

Our wholetimers are to think about Him and focus on the Goal.

Tadekam’ smara’mah…Tadekam’ nidha’nam’

Baba says, “That Cosmic Entity alone should be created in your mind and
no other object…He is the terminating point. He is the Supreme
Desideratum.” (AV-2)

WARNING:

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION = DEGENERATION

Indeed, celebrating one’s own birthday leads to the degeneration of
mind. Because by thinking of oneself the mind gets smaller and smaller.

And when thinking of oneself in a glorified way by allowing an entire
gathering of people to hold a party in your honour and sing happy
birthday to you by distorting Baba’s compositions of Prabhat Samgiita –
which is what some of our acaryas are doing – then this goes against all
codes of Wt conduct and etiquette.

Indeed this flies in the face of being an Ananda Margii and disciple of
the Sadguru Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji. Such a scene will certainly lead
to one’s degeneration.

Baba says, “Vanity harms the mind in three ways…The second [way] is
gaorava, self-aggrandizement or boasting – projecting oneself as a great
personality…. Is this really something great of which human beings can
feel proud? And what is the result of this self-glorification? Raorava
means the seventh hell.” (AMIWL-11)

Thus when some of our Wts are having the entire room sing happy birthday
to them – by manipulating Baba’s Prabhat Samgiita which is meant for the
arrival of Parama Purusa – and when those acaryas themselves are the
guest of honor, and when everyone is there to celebrate them, then the
entire event is just about puffing up their petty I-feeling.

In that case, their degeneration is sure. As Baba warns, their destiny is
the depths of hell.

SHEER AUDACITY:

HOW THEY ARE CELEBRATING

Now lets critically examine how some of our Wt’s are manipulating and
entwining Baba’s divine songs of Prabhat Samgiita into their misguided
birthday bashes (i.e. parties).

First, our workers are not supposed to be celebrating their own crude
birthday. They have come onto this earth for something else. That is now
well understood.

Second, such Wt’s are organising birthday parties for themselves and one
another and then singing Baba’s special Prabhat Samgiita, Janmadine…
#135, in the honour of that worker. When in fact that song is meant to
be sung to Baba and Baba only during our Ananda Purnima celebrations.

That’s right, you read the above paragraph properly. Your eyes are not
deceiving you.

On not one, but rather on multiples occasions, certain WTs have directed
Baba’s beloved Prabhat Samgiita toward themselves, as if they are so
great and their mundane birthday is so special.

Such is their audacity.

That entire Prabhat Samgiit, Janmadine…#135, is all about celebrating
the grand arrival of Parama Purusa, yet some of our workers have the
gall to redirect this divine song unto themselves. And they stand there
and smile as a whole crowd of people are singing that divine Prabhat
Samgiita in their honour.

Can you imagine such a thing? Such is the lowly standard to which a few
of our workers have fallen.

Of course, there are many disciplined workers who would never stoop to
such degrading activities, so we are not talking about all Wts.

The tragedy is that some of our senior and top workers are involved in
this birthday scandal. A few of their names are mentioned below.

MORE ABOUT PRABHAT SAMGIITA #135

As true Ananda Margii will recognise, in Prabhat Samgiita #135,
Janmadine ei shubha ks’an’e, the entire song is directed towards Parama
Purusa. It is His holy arrival that is being celebrated, not one Dada’s
mundane birthday.

In the song, due to the grand arrival of Taraka Brahma, devotees are
losing themselves in bliss – that is what is meant by the line,
“Khusiite vibhora a’panha’ra’.

Plus, the devotees are expressing the love and joy of their heart for
Parama Purusa and no one else. That is what is meant by the line,
“Udvela hiya’ toma’rei la’giya'”.

Each and every syllable, line, and stanza of the song is about the
grandeur of Parama Purusa and how He makes everyone’s heart dance in
bliss, and how His arrival creates a new spiritual vibration that
transforms the whole world, and how He has come to remain close to me.

Thus Prabhat Samgiita #135 is a very personal and devotional song that
reflects a bhakta’s joy in having Parama Purusa in the mind and heart
and how His arrival is totally blissful.

Thus to sing this song in honour of one Dada’s crude birthday goes
against all ethics of devotional life. To speak frankly, according to
our standard of Ananda Marga, such an act is not only misguided but
criminal.

After all, we are not talking about a primary school student. We are
talking about our esteemed acaryas who have been on the path for decades
and been in hundreds of reporting sessions with Baba. These Dadas are
not innocent babies. They have been educated and trained about AM and
Baba’s teachings.

They should know better and set a better example to others.

So it is absolutely shocking that they could even think to use Baba’s
divine Prabhat Samgiita in honour of their own mundane birthday – as if
they are the Saviour of this universe. Either such a Dada is just plain
ignorant, dumb, and devotionally blind, or they have an ego the size of
the Himalayas.

In either case the situation is not at all good – and their future is
not at all bright.

BABA’S ORDER:

MUST NOT GLORIFY ONESELF

Here Baba is clearly warning that human beings, let alone our esteemed
acaryas, must not be involved in self-glorification by holding birthday
parties and singing songs of their own greatness. One must not do such
things.

Baba says, “Kiirtana should be done on Hari and on no other entity. One
should not praise oneself or any other person. There are many people who
are very fond of praising themselves by telling everyone what wonderful
things they have done, but, as mentioned in this sloka, kiirtana is not
for one’s own self but for Hari. Even though people are taught to do
kiirtana for Hari, they still make the mistake of praising themselves
too much. Sometimes their self-praise is so intense that others are
obliged to say, “Please stop praising yourself so much.” They forget
that their self-applause is rather boring for others. Human beings
should realize that no one likes to hear the self-praise of others.” (AV-8)

Even though a few degraded workers may enjoy the crude display of their
own petty glory, such ostentatious displays are not received well in the
society. This will tarnish the image of all workers who have come on
this earth to selflessly serve others, not glorify themselves.

BABA’S BLESSING

By Baba’s grace we are to become great by our spiritual and selfless
conduct, not by the pomp and show of our birthday bashes.

Baba says, “It is action that makes a person great. Be great by your
sa’dhana’, by your service, by your sacrifice.”

For a Wt to celebrate their own birthday using Prabhat Samgiitas is
nothing but of a function of their own blindness. That is why many say
this is just one owl’s birthday.

Namaskar,
Mahendra

Note 1: PART LIFE VS FULL LIFE

Regarding birthdays, it has to be mentioned that our present life is
nothing but a part life. It is not a full life. Our life began when our
consciousness first emanated from the Cosmic Hub. Since that time we
have undergone incarnation after incarnation.

Baba says, ” After millions of animal lives, a created being attains the
human form…” (Ananda Va’nii #33)

Baba says, “In Sanskrit, dvi means “two” and ja means “born”, so dvija
means “twice born”…the first birth was the physical birth, and the
second birth was the spiritual birth, during initiation.” (AV-30)

Thus, one should not think that when the spermatoza fertilised the egg
that led to this particular birth is one grand birthday event.

Our life is spiritual oriented, not goaded toward the mundane.

Thus, every sadhaka in the Marga should think twice about how far they
should celebrate their “birthday”. For workers, there is no question of
celebrating as they have given up everything of their unit existence for
Baba. But all sadhakas in the Marga should take a moment and consider
the points in this letter and see if really they feel it appropriate and
beneficial to celebrate their own birthday.

Of course with young kids it is a different matter – they should
celebrate – but advanced sadhakas should rethink this issue with regards
to themselves. Already, probably many do not celebrate as they are more
interested in Parama Purusa.

Note 2: IN CARYACARYA BUT NOT FOR THEM

In Caryacarya, Baba has given all kinds of ceremonies for the general
society, including birthday celebrations (without Prabhat Samgiita of
course!). But no acarya should blindly think that therefore that
birthday celebration is for them anymore than they should think that the
marriage ceremony is for them. Those types of things in Caryacarya are
for the general society, not our esteemed acaryas.

Note 3: WHO IS INVOLVED IN THESE BIRTHDAY ANTICS

On 29 August 2009, in Jharsguda (Orissa, India), there was a big
birthday party event held in honour of Dada Priyakrsnananda.

For those not aware, Dada Priyakrsnananda has years and years of
experience in AM and even in his early years in the Marga he was a
Central Worker who lived close to Baba. Thus he should really know better.

Perhaps most surprising is that there were many, many senior workers on
hand for this birthday gala event and in one big round, they all sang
Prabhat Samgiita #135, “Janma dine…”, in order to celebrate
Priyakrsnananda’s birthday.

This type of dogmatic thing is totally against the ethics of our Marga
and it sets a very negative example. Because, as we all know, dogma
spreads.

Not surprisingly then, more recently in SUVA sector, the very senior
Dada Paramatmananda and Didi Ananda Shamiita organised two birthday
parties. And once again, they both insisted that PS #135, “Janma
dine…”, be sung. Thus with printed song sheets etc that Dada and Didi
made sure that the birthday event was celebrated with Prabhat Samgiita.

So this ugly trend is quickly making its way around the world. It is
such a tragedy that even our senior most workers do not understand basic
principles about AM and Prabhat Samgiita. It is amazing how quickly they
have forgotten Guru’s teachings and guidelines.

Note 4: THIS DADA ALSO CELEBRATED HIS BIRTHDAY

Here is a letter about a past birthday events regarding our acaryas.
These letters are filled with stories, explanations, and insights about
this critical issue.

Health Guideline

Baba says, “A’pashcavishvabhes’ajii– that is ‘water is medicine for all
diseases’. Truly, all types of disease can be relieved if one knows how to
use water properly. To maintain the internal functions of the body without
hindrance and to maintain the internal liquid balance, everyone should
drink a sufficient quantity of water every day. A healthy person can
consume three or four seers of water a day, a sick person four or five
seers, and a person suffering from skin disease, five or six seers. These
amounts of water help cure disease to a great extent.”
“Drinking water is good, but water with a little lemon and a little
salt is still better.”
“Drinking a lot of water at a time is harmful, especially for heart
patients.” (YT, ’96, p. 93)

Note: During meals if people drink water or juice etc then the saliva gets
diluted thus adversely affecting digestion and inviting many diseases.
